Police said first responders found an unresponsive and injured 7-year-old girl inside the home before she was sent to a hospital.
ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Two people were accused of homicide and child abuse after the death of a seven-year-old girl in Roseville.
Roseville Police Department said officers were called to a home on Oahu Court just before 7:40 a.m. for an unresponsive seven-year-old girl.
Police said the child and a five-year-old girl, who was found in a bedroom, were found with injuries and taken to the hospital.
The seven-year-old later died.
Two other children were asleep in the house and weren’t hurt. Those children are in the care of Child Protective Services, police said.
Police identified Jessica Savangsy, 26, and Retuquel Dupree, 27, as suspects. They were booked into the South Placer Jail on suspicion of murder, conspiracy, and felony child abuse.
The Citrus Heights Police Department confirmed to ABC10 that Dupree previously worked for the department as an officer. Dupree worked for the department from June 2021 to August 2021.
Police said Dupree was fired from the department but did not give a reason for his dismissal.
Roseville police said the two were in dating relationship and lived at the home where this happened. Authorities also identified Savangsy is the biological mother of both victims.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
