CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Severe Weather Preparedness Week

This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week for both North and South Carolina. The WCNC Charlotte Weather Team has extra coverage to help you raise your Weather IQ on severe weather throughout the week on air, online, and on our Weather IQ YouTube Page.

Saturday Night

The wedge really helped the Charlotte region steer clear of severe weather on Saturday with highs only in the upper 50s, cloudy sky conditions, and areas of drizzle. Overnight, clouds gradually clear with lows in the mid 40s.

Winds will increase as the cold front passes through the area. Gusts will likely peak near 20 mph with most spots between 10 – 15 mph.

Sunday

Lingering moisture overnight combined with cold air will allow for some mountain snow early Sunday. Winds turn breezy throughout the day gusting 50 mph in the mountains and 30 mph across the Charlotte area.

Sunshine is abundant in the afternoon but highs will struggle to get out of the upper 50s.

Next Week

The biggest weather story as we enter next week is how much colder lows will dip Monday and Tuesday mornings! Frost is likely across the Charlotte area with lows in the low-mid 30s. This is not abnormal for this time of year as the latest frosts and freezes on record have occurred in May.

It’s a good reminder that we often don’t recommend planting, if you want to make sure your plants stay safe, until after April 15th. If you risk it, make sure to cover them up or bring them inside!
