CLARENDON HILLS, Ill. (WGN) — A celebration is underway for the Clarendon Hills baseball team after they advanced to the Little League World Series for the first time in program history.

The Clarendon Hills Little League team had an incredible run, advancing to the Little League World Series after winning championships at the local, state and regional levels.

The team played three games in Pennsylvania in the double elimination tournament, ultimately falling to Honolulu Little League of Hawaii last Sunday.

For their loyal fans, the journey was more meaningful than the final score.

While the loss was disappointing, the players walked off the field as champions in the eyes of their community. They will forever be history makers in Clarendon Hills.

“I just walked into the tournament with a calm, clean mindset and then walked out inspired and excited of all the things we did and the people we met and talked to,” Connor Lazar said.

“It feels amazing having everybody rally around us, knowing that all my friends, everybody in school, noticed how well we did,” Christian Gernot said.

The village president says they just published a book about the 100-year history of Clarendon Hills, and now they need to add an addendum to mark the historic run of these players.

As the team arrived at their welcome home party in style — on a firetruck — some family members wiped away tears, so proud of what these kids have accomplished.
