Cloudy and rainy Wednesday in Northern California

Cloudy skies and cool temperatures will persist across much of Northern California with a few spotty showers in the Central valley, but more rain is expected in the Sierra

619 IS YOUR TIME? TIME FOR ANOTHER CHECK OF WEATHER. METEOROLOGIST KELLY KERN IS HERE NOW TO TELL US JUST HOW MUCH RAIN ISH WE’RE GETTING TODAY. I LIKE RAIN ISH. THAT’S ABOUT RIGHT. IT’S THE DRIZZLE AND MIST THAT WE’VE BEEN KIND OF SEEING OUT THERE THIS MORNING. AND AS WE TAKE THIS LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE AT DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO RIGHT NOW, WE ARE DRY. IT IS 59 DEGREES, THOUGH. THAT’S IT FOR THE CURRENT TEMPERATURE. AND WE ARE EXPECTING CLOUDY SKIES AS WE HEAD THROUGHOUT THE DAY. BY 2:00, THOUGH ONLY ABOUT 70 DEGREES, SO IT’S STILL GOING TO BE QUITE COOL TODAY. AND AGAIN, THERE IS A CHANCE FOR AT LEAST A FEW SHOWERS. AND WE’RE ALREADY SEEING SOME OF THAT ACTIVE WEATHER NOW ON THE RADAR, MAINLY JUST PICKING UP A LOT OF CLOUDS. BUT AS WE ZOOM IN A LITTLE BIT CLOSER, YOU CAN SEE WE HAVE SOME OF THAT RAIN ISH COMING DOWN IN THE AUBURN AREA RIGHT NOW, ALSO NEAR FOREST HILL. AND CAMERON PARK. JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND. SOME SPOTTY LIGHT SHOWER ACTIVITY. WE’VE GOT A LITTLE BIT MORE HERE DOWN TO OUR JUST TO THE SOUTH OF DAVIS. THIS IS HEADING TOWARDS CLARKSBURG AS IT MOVES ITS WAY TO THE EAST. AND AGAIN, VERY LIGHT, VERY SPOTTY SHOWER ACTIVITY. AND THAT’S WHAT WE’RE EXPECTING THROUGHOUT MOST OF THE MORNING. IT’S GOING TO BE THE COASTAL HILLS, THE VALLEY. THEN AS WE GET INTO THE AFTERNOON WE’RE GOING TO START SEEING THE FOOTHILLS AND THE SIERRA REALLY GET GOING. AND THE SIERRA, IN FACT, COULD EVEN SEE SOME THUNDERSTORMS OUT OF THIS SYSTEM. SOME OF THOSE THUNDERSTORMS, OF COURSE, COULD PRODUCE SOME GUSTY WINDS. SO THAT’S SOMETHING WE’LL BE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON. MORE SHOWERS AND EVEN A COUPLE OF STORMS OVERNIGHT. AND EVEN INTO THE MORNING HOURS ON THURSDAY. AND AGAIN FOR THURSDAY. IT’S PRIMARILY GOING TO BE THE FOOTHILLS AND THE SIERRA THAT WE’LL SEE THE ACTIVE WEATHER. THE VALLEY SHOULD, FOR THE MOST PART, STAY DRY ON THURSDAY. LET’S TALK TEMPERATURES, THOUGH, BECAUSE WE’VE GOT A LITTLE BIT OF A WILD RIDE HERE FOR THE SIERRA TODAY. HIGHS ARE ONLY GOING TO BE IN THE 50S. RAIN LIKELY, AND TOMORROW AS WELL WITH A HIGH OF 60. BUT THEN A BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND. HIGHS OF 73 DEGREES ON SUNDAY FOR THE FOOTHILLS TODAY. AGAIN, CHANCES FOR SHOWERS. A HIGH AROUND 70. SO STILL QUITE COOL. AND FOR SACRAMENTO TODAY’S FORECAST HIGH 75. TOMORROW WE GET BACK UP INTO THE 80S, BUT WE’LL BE IN THE 90S BY THE WEEKEND. IN FACT, UPPER 90S FOR THE FIRST DAY OF FALL ON SUNDAY A

Cloudy and cool conditions continue in Northern California as a second low pressure system is moves through the area. There will be a few spotty, light showers in the Central Valley this morning and again in the late afternoon and evening. Rain showers are likely in the Sierra this afternoon with a few thunderstorms possible as well. Scattered rain showers continue through the overnight and even into tomorrow for the Sierra. High pressure returns on Friday and so does the heat. We’re expecting high temperatures in the upper 90s on Sunday for the first day of autumn and we may even see triple digits in Sacramento next week.
