A veteran singer-songwriter who’s been part of the Cleveland music scene for decades, Anita Herczog, who’s better known by her stage name anitakeys, has finally written, recorded and released a Christmas song. She’s just put out “Wintertime,” a song inspired by her family house on Lake Erie.
“They bought [the house] — my father’s dream come true — 50 years ago, and me and my siblings pretty much raised our kids on daddy’s/Grampa’s beach,” she says in an email. “We’ve watched hundreds of sunsets and the coastline shift and the land shrink- despite our best efforts at conservation. [We watched] the family grow and adult kids move away, the holidays come and go and our parents and two sisters pass away and still we remain here with our lovely lake and countless memories. I know I’m not alone in feeling that Christmas is a lovely but melancholy season, and I tried to put that in a song.”
“Wintertime” is widely available on all digital platforms and will be included in all of anitakeys’s December performances. She performs on Dec. 3 at Brent Kirby’s 10X3 at the Bop Stop, on Dec. 6 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Annual Jingle Jam, on Dec. 18 at the Third Thursday Songwriter Showcase at Gatewood House, on Dec. 19 with the Friends Band at the Millard Fillmore Presidential Library and on Dec. 21 at Wintertime on Waterloo.
Anitakeys has released five full-length albums to date and has a sixth in the works.
