CLEVELAND (WJW) — Cleveland City Councilman Joe Jones is facing a possible censure over allegations he bullied and harassed other employees, creating a hostile work environment.

According to an independent investigation, Jones is accused of threatening to kill a city employee multiple times in May. That employee didn’t file an official police report, but they did report the alleged threat to the FBI.

Jones is also accused of sitting next to another employee during a Cleveland City Council meeting, despite receiving previous instructions prohibiting contact with that person due to alleged “prior incidents” between them.

In a letter to Jones, Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin stated that the council will introduce a formal censure resolution against him in September.

“Any time that you can imagine if it’s your mother, your father, your brother, your sister, your spouse, you would want them to be able to work in a safe and comfortable work environment,” Griffin said during a council meeting. “This is about accountability. There’s no political agenda here. This is about doing the right thing.”

Jones has also been ordered to not initiate contact with either employee. He must attend workplace conduct training and has been suspended from all committee duties.

FOX 8 News reached out to Jones for comment but he has not yet responded.
