Clark County Working With Residents To Properly Dispose Leaves This Fall – KXL

[ad_1]

Fall foliage is happening right now, but for those leaves that fall off trees and end up in landfills, it’s not good for our ecosystem. If not disposed of properly, leaves can lead to clogged storm drains and dangerous road conditions.  Clark County is giving residents the chance to get leaves off the streets.

Liz Erickson with the city of Vancouver says why proper leaf disposal is important.

“Leaves are a great resource to be turned back into nutrient-rich compost that can be used locally,” Erickson said.

“Turning the leaves into compost and keeping them out of the landfill are both great things we can do every day for a cleaner environment,” Erickson continued.

She also says how to use the coupon program the county is rolling out.

“These coupons are free for residential use,” Erickson said. “Each coupon is good for up to five cubic yards of leaves. That’s a lot of leaves!”

The coupon program runs from now through December 31st.
