One of my favorite things about running this blog over the last five years has been watching the Queens (and Kings) in training grow up. A lot changes in the life of a young person over that time. Some are now heirs and some are second in line, but we have followed all their journeys. I think we can conclude that the kids are definitely “alright” and that the future monarchies are in good hands.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway
Our most read post ever was the incredible, remarkable, much-delayed 18th birthday celebration of Princess Ingrid Alexandra. There is just too much goodness to go into detail here but a look back at that post is a must for a royal watcher. Proud royal parents, godparents, grandparents making speeches! Royal cousins! Tiara debuts on all the other QiT! Rewears from decades back! And at the center of was the incredibly beautiful and poised Princess herself.

We also covered the Princess’ confirmation and our Hofdame LiL did a deep dive on the bunad. We love bunads around here.

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium (Duchess of Brabant)
The first princess to turn 18 was the lovely Duchess of Brabant, who has since showed incredible confidence and style potential. She has gone through military training and become a consistent presence at royal events. Alas, we did not see her at a state visit, but I am sure that is not far in the future. Check out her 18th birthday post, and her absolutely lovely speech. “The country can depend on me”

Princess Amalia of the Netherlands (Princess of Orange)
The Princess of Orange had a relatively low-key 18th birthday, however, we did get to see her attend her first government meeting, go on her first official tour with her parents, and attend another Crown Prince’s wedding. We also learned that we have a new tiara-lover on the scene, which filled most of us with great joy. She knows all the royal tiaras! She knows the history of them! It all bodes so very well for the future.

Princess Leonor of Spain (Princess of Asturias)
The utterly lovely and poised Princess Leonor most recently made her oath to serve the people of Spain, and Leonormania gripped the nation. As you know, the political landscape in that country makes it a hard row to hoe for royals, and Leonor has navigated it beautifully. We did not get to see her tiara debut but we saw so much more from her. The woman can give a speech with the best of them!

Prince Christian of Denmark
One day we all looked up and realized that Prince Christian had grown six inches and now towers over everyone in his family (and probably most people around him). His 18th birthday was a glittering royal celebration of the type only the Danes can host. It was another super party here at the blog, too.

Princess Estelle of Sweden
Wait, where did that baby go? She is now a young woman with a great deal of confidence and joie de vivre. We were privileged to see her at Ingrid Alexandra’s celebrations, absolutely giddy with excitement and wearing the heck out of her new gown. I think that watching Estelle become the person she is has been a high point for many of us here.

Prince Charles of Luxembourg
Le bebe is now Le Toddler and has lost none of his charm. In fact, having a sibling has probably just increased the allure of that family! Charles has provided us with so much fun here and given his parents so much joy, it was a pleasure to welcome him to the royal scene.

Prince William (Prince of Wales)
The biggest change in status we saw was the Duke of Cambridge becoming the Prince of Wales. I don’t know about you, but I still pause when I see this title and William in the same frame! But he is definitely filling that role out nicely, although William as The Family Guy will always be number one for me.
Honorable Mention – Princess Aiko of Japan
Only direct male descendants are allowed to ascend to the throne in Japan, so the current Crown Prince is Fumihito, the Emperor’s brother. However, Princess Aiko has always held a firm spot in most of our hearts. We have followed her as she has grown up and were interested to see an old family tiara come out of the vault when she turned 20!

Doodles for You
