During the third quarter of Saturday’s preseason matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Houston Texans, Lions legend Chris Spielman joined the broadcast crew to share some big news with fans.

Spielman announced that former Lions defensive end Robert Porcher will be inducted into the Pride of the Lions, the organization’s highest individual honor.

Robert Porcher Pride of the Lions

For those unfamiliar, the Pride of the Lions is Detroit’s version of a ring of honor, where the franchise permanently recognizes its greatest players. Inductees have their names, jersey numbers, and years of service with the team displayed on the historic Hudson’s warehouse wall inside Ford Field.

Porcher, drafted by the Lions in the first round of the 1992 NFL Draft, spent his entire 12-year career in Detroit. He became one of the most dominant pass rushers in franchise history, finishing with 95.5 career sacks, 602 tackles, and 18 forced fumbles. He earned three Pro Bowl selections and left a lasting impact as a leader on and off the field.

Spielman summed it up best: Porcher’s name now takes its rightful place among the greats in Detroit football history.
