Children rescued after being trapped in sand hole at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Beach

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – Two children were trapped after falling into a sand hole at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Beach Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at around 3:15 p.m. in the area of 4424 El Mar Drive.

A witness shared video of one of the children being rushed away by first responders after being pulled from the sand hole. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, both children were rescued.

“On scene, emergency personnel located the two children, a young boy and girl,” a BSO spokesperson said. “Both were taken to hospitals for treatment. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.”

Authorities haven’t confirmed their ages or conditions or stated how they believe they ended up underneath the sand.
