Chicago Pride Parade 2024 downsizing due to safety concerns

CHICAGO—A beloved tradition celebrating Chicago’s Pride will continue as scheduled this June, albeit with fewer attractions.

A Chicago Pride 2024 Parade spokesperson told WGN News on Wednesday that the event is downsizing due to safety and logistical concerns. Following discussions with the city’s police and transportation departments, entries will be capped at 125.

The 53rd annual Chicago Pride Parade will also begin at 11 a.m. this year, rather than its standard noon start time.

The Pride Parade has always been about celebrating LGBTQ+ pride, unity, and solidarity, and this year will be no different. As we prepare for this milestone event, we remain committed to prioritizing LGBTQ+ organizations, LGBTQ+-owned businesses, and businesses with LGBTQ Employee Resource Groups.”

Last month, PRIDEChicago revealed the parade theme is “Pride is Power,” which highlights the parade’s role in creating effective change for the city and LGBTQ+ community.

PRIDEChicago’s annual parade concludes the city’s month-long celebrations with a procession through the Uptown, Lakeview, and Lincoln Park neighborhoods on the last Sunday of June each year.

PRIDEChicago said officials expected over one million people to pack the parade route.
