CHICAGO (WGN) – At the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Mies van der Rohe Way, WGN-TV’s Sean Lewis found the crossroads of art and sports.
Chicago artist Cody Hudson is the mind behind the first ever collaboration between the Chicago Bulls and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
“The Bulls’ logo is really so iconic. That’s what drew me to this project,” Hudson said. “The Bulls are such an iconic team. Anytime I travel overseas, I say, ‘I’m from Chicago,’ and the first thing that people ask me about is the Bulls.”
His wearable art just debuted at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
“We’ve got a hooded sweatshirt with an all-over print. Got a crewneck sweatshirt with an applique piece, got a sticker set, got a poster and two different hats; one, a brown hat and one, a black hat that’s only available at the MCA,” Hudson said.
It’s a full circle moment for Hudson, whose debut show at the MCA was in 2007.
Since then, his work and reputation have grown considerably as he brings a new view of a classic logo that’s very Chicago.
“I hope that fans of the Bulls see the work and are excited by it,” Hudson said. “I’m also hoping that fans of art or fans of mine see it. It’s a cool way to bring different groups together that I feel don’t always merge that much. Bringing the art and sport together is what’s been exciting about this project.”
It’s an off-court collaboration that fans may see as a slam dunk.
“It’s been a huge honor to work on this project. You have the Bulls and you got the MCA – two cultural institutions that I’ve always looked up to in Chicago, and to get to work with both of them on this at the same time, it’s a dream project,” Hudson said.
The MCA is hosting a special event Tuesday at 6 p.m. where you can get items signed by Hudson himself.
