Chevron headquarters to leave California for Texas

(FOX40.COM) — California-based oil and gas giant, Chevron, is in the process of moving its corporation headquarters from the Golden State to Texas.

Chevron announced Friday that its headquarters will move from San Ramon in the Bay Area to Houston, Texas. The company was founded in California 145 years ago and operates crude oil fields, technical facilities, and two refineries. It also supplies more than 1,800 retail stations in California.

The move comes nearly a year after California sued Chevron and several other oil companies for allegedly costing the state billions of dollars in damage from their risky production and refining processes. The lawsuit also accused the companies of not being transparent about their contributions to global warming.

Chevron is added to the list of other high-profile companies that decided to leave California. On July 16, Elon Musk announced he was also moving his California X headquarters to Texas.

Chevron employs about 2,000 people in San Ramon, however, the company said in a statement there will be “minimal immediate relocation impacts to employees that are currently based there.”

All Chevron Corporation functions are expected to fully shift over to Texas within the next five years.
