The Charlotte Hornets are signing big Harry Giles to a one year deal according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

As Shams says in the Tweet, Giles has a chance to compete for the 15th roster spot that is effectively still up for the taking.
Giles was a highly touted prospect during his high school years, but injuries sapped him of his athleticism and he never quite developed at the rate he was expected to. He still was the first or second rated recruit in the country depending on your source and went to Duke for one season. He only started six games in that season and averaged 3.9 and 3.8 rebounds per game. Still, he declared for the NBA Draft, where he was selected 20th overall.
His NBA career has mirrored his college career to this point. He’s started 17 of 165 games played and only averaged 11.7 minutes played per game. He’s averaged 5.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in those minutes. He’s topped 20 points in a game twice, but both times happened over four years ago.
It’s a good flier for a team that could use an influx of talent, though at this point I think it’s pretty safe to assume that Giles is never going to become the player people thought he’d be in high school. He’s 26 years old, so there’s still maybe a little bit of development in the tank, but he’s more likely to be a contributor for the Swarm than the Hornets this season.
