While 2024 burst onto the scene with a sensational start, it wasn’t long before the world had to come to grips with celebrity deaths. Their passings shocked the world, but their memories left audiences with the marks they made in film, television, sports and more.

The sports world was devastated to learn that Shawn Barber died at the young age of 29 on January 17. The pole vault champion, who competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics, passed away from medical complications. Then on February 6, country music fans mourned the passing of singer Toby Keith after his family confirmed that he died “peacefully” one day prior.

On February 27, Thomas Kingston, a British financier and the son-in-law of Prince Michael of Kent, died at the young age of 45.

The following day, Curb Your Enthusiasm comedian Richard Lewis died of a heart attack at the age of 76.
