The 2024 offseason is now underway for the Philadelphia Eagles, with the bulk of free agents already gone. With the upcoming draft, they have some choices to make on how to fix their roster.
What are the Eagles’ current strengths? What are their weaknesses?
Yes, even with Jason Kelce’s expected yet still gut-wrenching retirement, the Eagles are still strong at their offensive line. It shows how spoiled they’ve been for a long, long time.
Sure, the Eagles’ interior offensive line took a big hit with the loss of Kelce, but it will serve as a chance for someone like former 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen to emerge. He only played 71 snaps last season, so he’s due for an increase in that department. The Eagles have done a fantastic job acquiring and developing offensive linemen over the past couple of decades — the hope is that he can be the next.
The Eagles know what they have in Landon Dickerson, as he is a two-time Pro Bowler with just three seasons under his belt in the NFL. Getting him was a fantastic snag for the Eagles back in the 2021 NFL draft early in the second round. At 25 years of age, he should be the anchor of the interior offensive line for years to come — especially with his new four-year deal.
As for Cam Jurgens, he is the likely Kelce replacement at center after playing a lot of guard for the Birds last season (89%, to be exact). He’s still just 24 and played decent last season, so his progression will be something to monitor.
As for the rest of the offensive line, the Eagles know what they’re getting in tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson at this point. Arguably the best tackle duo in football, the offensive line will still be a strong point for Philadelphia, if not their strongest. If they can stay healthy, there shouldn’t be much to worry about with this unit.
Looking at the Eagles’ first major weakness, the defensive backs took a significant step back from 2022 to 2023. They lost Avonte Maddox this offseason, who didn’t have the best 2023 campaign, but it’s still a loss nonetheless. James Bradberry’s regression has been apparent, and he still has two seasons left on his $38 million contract that he signed last offseason.
Before free agency, the only positives in the secondary were arguably only Darius Slay and Reed Blankenship. Even Slay took a small step back in 2023, so it was (and still is) a worrying aspect of the team.
But the Eagles went out and signed safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to a three-year deal, giving the Eagles their 2022 swagger back and some good coverage at that. The secondary still needs major work, but the importance of that addition cannot be understated.
One thing that hasn’t always been great for the Eagles has been their skill positions. Now, however, it is one of the best features of their roster. The duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith at wide receiver is can’t-miss good. Both of them will be eyeing Mike Quick’s record from 1983 to 1985 where he notched three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons — they each have two in a row.
More recently, star running back Saquon Barkley agreed to terms with the Eagles. He is the only back in the NFL who recorded top-10 rushing yards over expected (RYOE) campaigns in both 2022 and 2023. He had dozens of big rushing plays (10 or more yards) for the New York Giants on a brutal offensive line, so he’ll help bring some explosiveness to Philadelphia. Even if he’s 27, he’s still one of the best at his position.
At this point, Jalen Hurts doesn’t need to be discussed. Even at his worst, which was arguably last season, he was still a phenomenal quarterback. He will only continue to get better.
Whether or not a tight end is considered to be a skill position or not, Dallas Goedert makes a good case for it. He’s not just a standard tight end — he can block, catch, and make plays. He is a vital player in the Eagles’ offense.
It’s been the case for a while now, but the Eagles’ linebackers are not up to par. It’s been a while since that has been a strength, really. It’s both good and bad news that Nicholas Morrow, Zach Cunningham, and Shaquille Leonard are all likely on the way out. They had some good performances in there, but it was overall pretty disappointing.
The Eagles’ defense needs to improve next season, obviously. Things went smoothly early on, but some bad games against the Washington Commanders of all teams suggest they need more. By the end of the season, surrendering 30 or more points came with regularity. The linebackers definitely played into that, and there will be some big changes. If there was a position that the Eagles go heavy on in the draft and what’s left of free agency, that’ll be it.
In free agency, the Eagles added linebackers Oren Burks and Zack Baun to the room, but those are more or less depth adds. The addition of Devin White was a high-reward move, but it doesn’t take away from the Eagles’ issues. With the addition of Johnson to the secondary, the linebacker core is probably the Eagles’ biggest weakness as of now, even with White, especially now there.
Much like the offensive line, the Eagles have had a fantastic defensive line for a while. They have great youth in Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, while Josh Sweat and Milton Williams are both relatively young, too.

Carter, specifically, could take a massive jump for the Eagles. He was an elite player last season, so the hope is that his sophomore season can bring even more. With a duo of him and Davis out there, the Eagles should be dangerous for years to come. But 2024 could be a massive one for both of them.
Veterans like Brandon Graham and Reddick are still important to the Eagles. Reddick was the Eagles’ sack leader, while Graham has had his game age like a fine wine. He is still a great player at age 35. He is reportedly in the works for an extension to give it one more year. At this point, he’s one of the greatest Eagles of all time — the good news is that keeping him around will actually help the team rather than serve as a sentimental move.
However, considering the fact that the Eagles signed 25-year-old defensive end Bryce Huff to a contract worth $51.1 million, among their other huge splashes, chances are that someone like Reddick could go. There’s not enough money to keep everyone, and it would be a bit irresponsible for a young team to do that. With that out of the way, the Eagles pass rush should still be an area of strength without either of them. It might take a hit, but it is a young unit with a lot of talent.
If the Eagles want to go back to the Super Bowl, addressing their needs will be a must. They have the assets to do so adequately.

On Saturday, the Flyers conquered one of this season’s greatest demons. They came into the Wells Fargo Center for the home matinee, fought tooth and nail for a crucial two points in the playoff race, and actually got them. They finally beat the Boston Bruins, something they hadn’t been able to do all season.
Then on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, with another major two points on the line, they nearly toppled another. The game was a rollercoaster, the seven-goal third period especially, and here the Flyers were matching a high-powered and Metro Division-leading New York Rangers team shot for shot.
They fell behind three times during that last regulation frame, and answered three times to force overtime and claim at least a point, but their fortune stopped there. Against the Rangers’ offensive killers in Atermi Panarin, Vincent Trocheck, and Adam Fox, head coach John Tortorella opted to try and match that with a more preventative measure in Ryan Poehling, Noah Cates, and Travis Sanheim.
It backfired immediately. The Flyers never touched the puck in OT, Fox found the back of the net in 36 seconds, the Rangers remained as the juggernaut rival left unbeaten, and while Philly still left the night holding on to third in the Metro, the Washington Capitals had also beaten the Detroit Red Wings simultaneously to pull within just a single point behind them and with two games in hand.
The Flyers are finally out of the gauntlet phase of this final stretch in their schedule, but there aren’t necessarily any more breaks or much room to breathe.
Take that point from Tuesday night, for sure, but they could’ve really used the whole two there and are going to need a lot more if they’re going to survive this last push to make the bid into the postseason.
The race is a full-on sprint now, a close one too, and while the Flyers have shown that they can and will skate with anyone, the silver linings are only going to mean less and less with each passing and increasingly crucial game. They need results.
“I liked the game for the most part,” Scott Laughton said postgame Tuesday night. “Again, I thought we played pretty well, but like I said before, this time of year, the moral victories don’t really do it. We need to pick up some points here. We got one, but I thought we were in control of it and should’ve gotten two.”
“We knew this was coming up on the schedule and what we were facing,” Laughton continued. “Handled it pretty well, I thought, but yeah, you don’t get the result. We’re all in this game to win and we didn’t get on the right side of it tonight, so go to Montreal tomorrow and we gotta play a good road game there and get back at it.”
Beginning on March 7 in Florida, the Flyers’ schedule consisted almost wholly of playoff contenders between the Panthers (twice), Lightning, Maple Leafs (twice), Bruins (twice), Hurricanes, and Rangers. Their lone breather in that slate was against the NHL-worst Sharks, a 3-2 win at home, but otherwise, the Flyers were near required to be on the top of their game every single night to have a chance.
Overall, they left that 10-game endurance run 4-4-2, with a few big wins if not impressive performances put up throughout, but with a couple of outright clunkers and some questionable decisions thrown in there as well – the most curious and scrutinized of them right now being the team’s overtime deployment.
Tuesday night in New York, the Flyers played it conservative and it bit them. They also took that same approach just shy of a week before on the road against Carolina, sending Poehling out there with Sanheim and Tyson Foerster to start, and while there was some trade off in that contest, it also ended with the Flyers only taking one after Brent Burns and Seth Jarvis took a 2-on-1 the other way.
Tortorella didn’t make himself available for any questions about it after the overtime loss to the Rangers, instead sending associate coach Brad Shaw out to offer the explanation.
“Poehls has been one of our best two-way players for the last probably 2-3 months, so he’s got a chance to win the faceoff and plus he’s responsible at both ends of the rink,” Shaw said. “He’s played well offensively and defensively, so he’s earned the right to get out there. It obviously didn’t end the way we wanted. I think he’s the right guy to put out there. They’ve got two of their best offensive guys and one of the best offensive defensemen in the league in Fox out there as well, so we have guys that we feel can play both ends of the rink really well. It didn’t work out.”
And stopped a stellar and relentless effort short.
Now you just have to hope the team can shrug that part off and keep building on it going into their final nine games and a relatively easier stretch coming up that begins with the Canadiens in Montreal on Thursday night.
Still, it’s a race, a close one, and this late into the game, one that will hardly offer any breaks.
“It’s hard,” Shaw said. “We have to respect every team we’re playing. Once you do that, you tend to buy into how we have to play, the discipline, the puck management type game that has given us a ton of success lately against really good opponents. That works against everybody. We have to realize that and stick to that gameplan as often as we can.”

Investigators began collecting evidence Wednesday from the cargo ship that plowed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge and caused its collapse, while in the waters below divers searched through twisted metal for six construction workers who plunged into the harbor and were feared dead.
The investigation picked up speed as the Baltimore region reeled from the sudden loss of a major transportation link that’s part of the highway loop around the city. The disaster also closed the port that is vital to the city’s shipping industry.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board boarded the ship and planned to recover information from its electronics and paperwork, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said.
The agency also is reviewing the voyage data recorder recovered by the Coast Guard and building a timeline of what led to the crash, which federal and state officials have said appeared to be an accident.
The ship’s crew issued a mayday call early Tuesday, saying they had lost power and the vessel’s steering system just minutes before striking one of the bridge’s columns.
At least eight people went into the water. Two were rescued, but the other six — part of a construction crew that was filling potholes on the bridge — were missing and presumed dead.
The debris complicated the search, according to a Homeland Security memo described to The Associated Press by a law enforcement official. The official was not authorized to discuss details of the document or the investigation and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said the divers faced dangerous conditions.
“They are down there in darkness where they can literally see about a foot in front of them. They are trying to navigate mangled metal, and they’re also in a place it is now presumed that people have lost their lives,” he said Wednesday.
Among the victims are people from Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, according to diplomats from those countries.
Guatemala’s consulate in Maryland confirmed that two of the missing were Guatemalan citizens working on the bridge. Mexico’s Washington consulate also confirmed in a statement posted on X that Mexican citizens were among the missing but did not say how many.
The Honduran man was identified as Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandova by that country’s deputy foreign affairs minister.
“The hope we have is to be able to see the body,” Suazo’s brother told NBC News. “We want to see him, find him, know whether he is dead, because we don’t know anything.”
Father Ako Walker, a Catholic priest at Sacred Heart of Jesus, said outside a vigil that he spent time with the families of the workers as they waited for news of their loved ones.
“You can see the pain etched on their faces,” Walker said.

María del Carmen Castellón told Telemundo 44 that her husband Miguel Luna, 49, was one of the missing employees working on the bridge. Castellón said Luna is a father of six from El Salvador.
Capt. Michael Burns Jr. of the Maritime Center for Responsible Energy said bringing a ship into or out of ports with limited room to maneuver is “one of the most technically challenging and demanding things that we do.”
There are “few things that are scarier than a loss of power in restricted waters,” he said. And when a ship loses propulsion and steering, “then it’s really at the mercy of the wind and the current.”
Video showed the ship moving at what Maryland’s governor said was about 9 mph (15 kph) toward the 1.6-mile (2.6-kilometer) bridge. Traffic was still moving across the span, and some vehicles appeared to escape with only seconds to spare. The crash caused the span to break and fall into the water within seconds.
The last-minute warning from the ship allowed police just enough time to stop traffic on the interstate highway. One officer parked sideways across the lanes and planned to drive onto the bridge to alert a construction crew once another officer arrived. But he did not get the chance as the powerless the vessel barrelled into the bridge.
Attention also turned to the container ship Dali and its past.
Synergy Marine Group, which manages the ship, said the impact happened while it was under the control of one or more pilots, who are local specialists who help guide vessels safely in and out of ports.
The ship, which was headed from Baltimore to Sri Lanka, is owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd., and Danish shipping giant Maersk said it had chartered the vessel.
The vessel passed foreign port state inspections in June and September 2023. In the June 2023 inspection, a faulty monitor gauge for fuel pressure was rectified before the vessel departed the port, Singapore’s port authority said in a statement Wednesday.
The ship was traveling under a Singapore flag, and officials there said they will be conducting their own investigation in addition to supporting U.S. authorities.
The sudden loss of a highway that carries 30,000 vehicles a day, and the disruption of a a vital shipping port, will affect not only thousands of dockworkers and commuters but also U.S. consumers who are likely to feel the impact of shipping delays.
“A lot of people don’t realize how important the port is just to everything,” said Cat Watson, who takes the bridge to work everyday and lives close enough that she was awakened by the collision. “We’re going to be feeling it for a very long time.”
The Port of Baltimore is a busy entry point along the East Coast for new vehicles made in Germany, Mexico, Japan and the United Kingdom, along with coal and farm equipment.
Ship traffic entering and leaving the port has been suspended indefinitely.
Speaking at a White House news conference, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the Biden administration was focused on reopening the port and rebuilding the bridge, but he avoided putting a timeline on those efforts. He noted that the original bridge took five years to complete.
Another priority is dealing with shipping issues, and Buttigieg planned to meet Thursday with supply chain officials.
From 1960 to 2015, there were 35 major bridge collapses worldwide due to ship or barge collisions, according to the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure.

Can 11 South Philadelphians halt FDR Park’s $250 million renovation project? Maybe. According to a report by Ximena Conde in the Inquirer, a group is suing to pull the brakes on the project, which is already underway, arguing that it needs the approval of both City Council and Orphans’ Court (which is not a powerful judicial body composed entirely of Dickensian waifs, sadly).
The suit, filed on Monday, further argues that the plan (which you can read about here) endangers the park’s wetlands and natural beauty. To quote:
“Defendants are preliminarily enjoined from using taxpayer monies or any other government resources to end or terminate or radically change the purpose of FDR Park and in destroying meadows, wetlands and watersheds and replacing with 30-40 acres of artificial turf, unless and until the Defendants have proven their case in Orphans’ Court and an Orphans’ Court Order is issued to the contrary.”
One reason the suit could be successful: The group’s lawyer has been through this before. Samuel Stretton — whose web site rivals Jukt Micronics in its elegant simplicity — has previously won cases defending the Northeast’s Burholme Park (in 2009) and Downington’s Kardon Park (in 2017) from development.

Attention Cheesesteak lovers! Jim’s Steaks on South Street is reopening in May!
The iconic cheesesteak spot closed down in July 2022 after faulty electrical wiring caused a multi-alarm fire.
Previously, Jim’s had revealed new blueprints of the building, and expected to reopen in 2023.
Unfortunately, this was not the case for Jim’s steak lovers.
The proposed blueprints showed a 2nd floor, which would be a new addition to the shop.
Yesterday, Jim’s Steaks posted a tease on Facebook saying “Start the countdown… May 2024!”
According to a post on Instagram, the iconic cheesesteak shop has also expanded into the space next door, which previously held ‘Eye’s Gallery’. ” @eyes_gallery, you have been the most incredible neighbors since we arrived as the fresh new face on the block in 1976. Thank you for your trust. We intend to be faithful stewards of this sacred artistic space.” said the post.
The gallery has reportedly relocated to another spot on South Street.
Jim’s Steaks has not revealed an exact date for their reopening.

Imhotep’s Third Straight PIAA Championship Was Sweeter Than Ever.
If you visit Imhotep Institute Charter High School in Philadelphia — whatever you do — don’t reference The Mummy movie trilogy with Brendan Fraser. The basis for the name isn’t the film according to the website. The actual Imhotep was an Ancient Egyptian Chancellor, was a high priest of the Sun God Ra at Heliopolis, and an architect.
This year, the Imhotep Charter High School PIAA Class 5A Basketball Championship had additional meaning.
After all, it’s not all of the time that a high school basketball program goes from 2A to 5A.
All other Philadelphia-area high school powerhouses had already been eliminated from the PIAA Playoffs, Roman Catholic, Neumann-Goretti, Archbishop Wood, and Archbishop Carroll.
On this night at Hershey’s Giant Center, Imhotep Charter (29–3) was given all of the competition that they could handle against Franklin Regional.
Located between East Oak Lane and East Germantown, Imhotep Charter Institute High School is relatively new by Philadelphia standards, having first opened in 1998.
Imhotep has a total of nine state championships. They are 9–0 in State Title games as well. A recent poll by USA Today ranked them #21 nationally according to a TribLive.com article.
Late in the game on Friday night, Franklin Regional pulled to within 49–40. It was the closest that they ever came and Imhotep pulled the game out 58–49.
Imhotep’s 10th State Championship came with all other Philadelphia teams already having been eliminated.

The Philadelphia Phillies are getting ready for Thursday’s Home Opener against the Atlanta Braves. If you’re heading to Citizen’s Bank Park, make sure you bring your umbrella or a poncho to keep dry from the expected rain.
As we enter mid-week, we’ll begin seeing changes with the weather.
A cold front will cross our region Tuesday night and then practically stall out along the coast.
This will bring the initial batch of showers to our area throughout some of the day on Wednesday and most should be light in nature.
A low-pressure system will develop across the southeast on Wednesday and then lift northeastward through Thursday night along the stalled front.
Some of our latest guidance does show the low farther east which would lead to a drier solution for us for the Phillies Home Opener.
However, other guidance is still suggesting a wet Thursday.
Rain would begin late Wednesday night and become widespread and steady by Thursday morning.
The system and rain would depart late Thursday and Thursday night.
Rainfall amounts at this time would be .5 to one inch for far interior areas of eastern Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey. Areas along Interstate 95 could see one to 1.5 inches of rain with the coast possibly seeing two inches.
It’s important to remember that we could see this fluctuate especially given the drier solutions some models have recently been giving us.
Meanwhile, Friday is looking sunny, dry and windy with temperatures in the mid-50s and winds northwest at 15 to 25 miles per hour.

Every year, the National Registry of Exonerations puts out an annual report, an eye-popping document dedicated to the methodical, statistical accounting of just how badly we’ve destroyed many, many people’s lives with wrongful convictions.
This year’s report (which chronicles the exonerations of 2023) was especially interesting to read, as it lays out in plain English just how many of the year’s 153 exonerations nationwide came from our fair burg of Philadelphia. Of the 16 exonerations in Pennsylvania this past year, 15 were from Philadelphia. That’s more exonerations than 46 states. Only one jurisdiction — Cook County, Illinois — had more than Philly, with 23. It’s worth pointing out that Cook County is the second-most populous county in the United States, home to 5.3 million residents and 134 different municipalities. Fifteen people were exonerated from New York City’s five boroughs, also.
Previous to 2023, the most people ever exonerated from Philly was 13, back in 2019. As District Attorney Larry Krasner’s director of research, Oren Gur, said on Twitter/X/whatever: “A jurisdiction that represents .45% of US population accounted for 10% of its exonerations last year.” Eight of last year’s exonerees were due to the work of the DA’s Conviction Integrity Unit.
Two men spent 40-plus years incarcerated, longer than I’ve been alive. All told, the 15 Philadelphians released last year spent 301 total years behind bars.
Last fall, Victor brought you all the news about longtime sportsmouth Anthony Gargano’s dispute with 97.5 The Fanatic. Suspensions, lawsuits, you name it. At the center of the dispute was PHLY Sports, the nascent sports news platform, with which Gargano intended to host a podcast. In October, the two parties negotiated a settlement that would keep Gargano off the air for six months. Well, time’s up: The Anthony Gargano Show launches on Thursday.
The eight-year tenure of Philly prison commissioner Blanche Carney hasn’t been smooth. Eighteen people died in city jails in 2021 alone. The Philadelphia correctional officers union cast a unanimous no-confidence vote in Carney last year. And over six months, there have been four escapes. Sure, this doesn’t all fall at Carney’s feet — the system has a 40-percent job vacancy rate — but she’s had enough. According to the Inquirer, her last day is April 5th.
Last night, in the finale of the Sixers’ road trip, they faced the Kings with starters Nico Batum, Tobias Harris, Mo Bamba, Tyrese Maxey and Kyle Lowry. (Kelly Oubre Jr. was out with a sore shoulder.) They did not get off to a great start. Bamba promptly (really promptly) picked up two fouls, and the shooting was cold. But Maxey heated up and hit some threes.

Still, three fouls on K.J. Martin already? End of the first: Kings led, 31-25. At least Tyrese had surpassed his record for single-quarter points, with 21. The game stayed tight through the second until the final minutes, when the Kings stretched their slim lead to 48-40. And K.J. picked up his fourth, after a review ruled he’d committed an offensive foul. And a mystery technical foul on Tyrese? It was all heading south.

In the third, it was more of the same, and a T on Bamba for mouthing off to the refs — his fourth. Sensitive tonight! “These aren’t even satisfying technicals!” Ala Abdelnaby faux-raged. Domantas Sabonis picked up his 54th (?!?) consecutive double-double.
Tyrese Maxey has 26 points on 14 shots and the rest of the Sixers have 27 points on 34 shots.

Things did not look good. D.J. Wilson marked his Sixers debut by hitting two straight treys to pull us within 11 near the close of the third, but that was a high point. Kate Scott and Ala did their best to be upbeat, but man, this team is not playing well. Joel, where are you? Are you ever coming back? Final: 108-96.
How’d the Phillies Do?
Well, they got dinged by Tampa Bay again. J.T. Realmuto got things going for us in the first with a two-run homer, but starter David Buchanan gave up five hits in his four innings, with two earned runs — though he did strike out four Rays. Everybody gets a breather now before Opening Day at CBP on Thursday. When, um, it’s supposed to rain.
The Flyers play today.

BALTIMORE (AP) — A container ship rammed into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, causing it to snap in a few places and plunge into the river below. Several vehicles fell into the chilly waters, and rescuers were initially searching for at least seven people.
Two people were pulled from the waters under the Francis Scott Key Bridge, one in serious condition, according to Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace.
The cargo ship appears to have crashed into one of the bridge’s supports during the middle of night when traffic would be expected to be lighter, according to a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. The vessel caught fire, and thick, black smoke billowed out of it.
“Never would you think that you would see, physically see, the Key Bridge tumble down like that. It looked like something out of an action movie,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, calling it “an unthinkable tragedy.”
The fire chief said authorities “may be looking for upwards of seven people” but said that number could change. It was not clear if the two rescued were included in the seven.
Sonar has indicated that there are vehicles in the water, where the temperature was about 47 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius) in the early hours of Tuesday, according to a buoy that collects data for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Earlier, Kevin Cartwright, director of communications for the Baltimore Fire Department, told The Associated Press that several vehicles were on the bridge at the time, including one the size of a tractor-trailer truck.
He called the collapse a “developing mass casualty event,” though he didn’t know at the time how many people were affected.
Cartwright added that some cargo appeared to be dangling from the bridge, which spans the Patapsco River at the entrance to a busy harbor. The river leads to the Port of Baltimore, a major hub for shipping on the East Coast. Opened in 1977, the bridge is named for the writer of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency and said he was working to get federal resources deployed. The FBI was also on the scene.
Synergy Marine Group — which owns and manages the ship called the “Dali” — confirmed the vessel hit a pillar of the bridge at about 1:30 a.m. while two pilots were in control. It said all crew members, including the pilots, were accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries.
From a vantage point near the entrance to the bridge, jagged remnants of its steel frame were visible protruding from the water, with the on-ramp ending abruptly where the span once began.
A vessel called Dali was headed from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka, as its final destination, according to Marine Traffic and Vessel Finder. The ship was flying under a Singapore flag, WTOP radio station reported, citing Petty Officer Matthew West from the Coast Guard in Baltimore.
In 2001, a freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed in a tunnel in downtown Baltimore and caught fire, spewing black smoke into surrounding neighborhoods and forcing officials to temporarily close all major roads into the city.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly double shooting at a bus terminal in the city’s Frankford section.
It happened around 4:49 p.m. Monday on Arrott Street at SEPTA’s Arrott Transportation Center.
Police say one man was shot in the chest. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A second victim, identified by police as a man, was shot once in the back and twice in the leg. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.
It’s still unclear what sparked the gunfire and no arrests have been made.
Police say a gun was recovered at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.

Going into the Flyers match up against the New York Rangers on Tuesday the 26th the orange and black would wrap up a stretch of seven games in a row against teams in a playoff position. Through the first six games of that stretch the Flyers are 2-3-1, recording 5 out of a possible 12 points. As of right now Philadelphia sits 3rd in the Metro standings with 81 points through 72 games. They are 16 points behind Carolina for second with only 10 games left in the season. While only being two points ahead of the Washington Capitals who have played two less games than the Flyers. It is safe to say that the playoff teams coming out of the East will be the Panthers, Bruins, Rangers, and Hurricanes as they are the top two teams in each division. With Toronto or Tampa being either the third team in the Atlantic or the top Wild Card team barring a late season collapse. While the Flyers, Capitals, Islanders, and Sabers are the only teams with a realistic chance of making the playoffs. While in the West the Jets, Stars, Avalanche, and Canucks have all but locked up a spot. And the only teams left with a realistic chance of sneaking into a playoff position are the Oilers, Kings, Predators, Golden Knights, Blues and Wild. Torts Lighting a Fire Underneath the Team
Like the other Philadelphia sports teams the Flyers are extremely streaky this includes both winning and losing streaks as well as player performances. A few players the Flyers are hoping to get hot going into the last few weeks of the season are Cam Atkinson, Scott Laughton, and Sean Couturier. Three star players who have not been contributing in the score column like they have in the past. Atkinson has been a healthy scratch in the past six of the last seven games, while Capitan Sean Couturier was scratched twice last week. This move by Tortorella was lit up by the national media as health bombing a captain is a highly unusual move. But Torts is known to send a message by benching players mid-game and leaving big names out of the lineup when their performance is not up to par.
Of the remaining ten games in the Flyers season eight are against teams currently outside of a playoff position. The remaining two are against the New York Rangers, and four games against teams that currently have a chance to make the playoffs. Of the games left there is only one set of back to back games on April 5th and 6th. One of these matchups will most likely be the last time Felix Sandstrom will start for the season. As Tortorella was not impressed with the young goalie’s performance in a 4-1 lost to the Florida Panthers on Sunday night. It is expected that Sam Ersson will start in almost all of the remaining games. After the trade deadline teams are only allowed four call-ups from the minors, the Flyers have already used all four on Ginnings, Attard, Brink, and Lycksell. The Flyers could only use emergency call-ups for the rest of the season, which Felix Sandstrom was. This just about sets the Flyers lineup in stone for the rest of the season.

Apple cider vinegar makes for a tasty salad dressing or marinade, but new research has found that it also could be useful in boosting weight loss efforts.
Daily consumption of small amounts of apple cider vinegar — which is made from fermented apple juice and contains the active ingredient acetic acid — may aid weight management in people who are overweight or obese, according to a study published earlier this month in BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health.
The small study focused on 120 people from Lebanon, ages 12 to 25 years, who had obesity or were overweight. Some participants were randomly assigned to drink either 5, 10 or 15 milliliters of apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of water once a day, first thing in the morning, for a period of 12 weeks. Other participants were given a placebo liquid to drink each day.
Compared with the people given the placebo, the participants who drank the apple cider vinegar lost “significant” amounts of weight, losing an average 15 pounds over the course of the study. The apple cider vinegar drinkers also saw reductions in BMI. Those who drank the largest amount of apple cider vinegar, 15 milliliters, experienced the largest decreases in weight and BMI after 12 weeks.
The apple cider vinegar drinkers also saw significant reductions in waist and hip measurements and body fat ratio compared with the placebo. These reductions were similar regardless of dose, suggesting the effect didn’t depend on the quantity, the researchers say.
There were also improvements in metabolic markers — which are used to gauge someone’s overall health — such as levels of blood glucose, triglycerides and total cholesterol.
“These results suggest that apple cider might have potential benefits in improving metabolic parameters related to obesity and metabolic disorders in obese individuals,” the study authors said. “The results might contribute to evidence-based recommendations for the use of (apple cider vinegar) as a dietary intervention in the management of obesity.”
The authors note that there are some limitations, including the study’s small sample size and short 12-week period, which is not enough to gauge possible longterm side effects.
Furthermore, while apple cider vinegar has shown to have several possible health benefits — like killing harmful bacteria, managing diabetes and improving heart health — it is not necessarily a “magic pill,” registered dietitian nutritionist Michelle Routhenstein told Healthline.
“(Apple cider vinegar) needs to be looked at in conjunction with overall diet and physical activity, as well as stress and sleep management, to have a significant long-lasting impact,” Routhenstein said.
