    Two companies Rick Hilton founded are engaged in a lawsuit with each other over an office lease in Beverly Hills. 

    The entrepreneur and husband of reality TV star Kathy Hilton left Hilton & Hyland — the influential luxury home brokerage he co-founded with the late Jeff Hyland — in December 2022. Widow Lori Hyland now owns the brokerage.

    In March 2023, Rick Hilton launched a new agency called Hilton & Hilton Real Estate. Its DBA is Hilton Hilton and the agent roster includes Rick’s son Barron Hilton and Barron’s wife Tessa Hilton. 

    The lawsuit of Hilton & Hyland Real Estate versus Hilton & Hilton Real Estate is making its way through the Los Angeles Superior Court system. Filed in October, Hilton & Hyland’s complaint alleges the defendants abandoned their sublease without good cause. On Jan. 25, a Hilton & Hyland spokesman said the firm demands the entire rent owed, $341,000 for the contracted time of August 2023 to June 2024.

    The complaint initially demanded back rent of $93,000 from the startup agency.

    A dispute over signage spawned the suit. Hilton Hilton wanted to post exterior signage at 270 North Canon Drive in Beverly Hills, where it subleased the entire second floor with nearly 5,200 square feet from Hilton & Hyland.

    In a July letter included in the complaint, Rosemary Ohm, Hilton Hilton’s managing director,  contends that the lease said that her company would have the option to add exterior signs on the Dayton Way side of the building. 

    However, Ohm wrote that her firm believes it was misled because it was later informed by the City of Beverly Hills that an exterior sign on Dayton Way would not be allowed according to city code.

    In a separate email sent Aug, 10. Rick Hilton wrote to a Hilton & Hyland representative that “the fact of the matter is that we would have not agreed to the sublease if we had known that signage was not permitted by the city. This is happening after we spent a great deal of time and money renovating the office as well as furnishing it. The lack of signage also interfered with our collaboration with a proposed partner who didn’t like the lack of visibility for the space.”

    Michael Williams, an attorney working with Hilton & Hyland, replied that there was no misleading language in the lease or its negotiation, and a termination of rent would not be allowed. 

    After Labor Day 2023, Ohm informed Hilton & Hyland that her firm had vacated the building. 

    The contract between the two companies started in January 2023. The complaint said that Hilton Hilton signed a lease for a period of a year and five months, which was scheduled to end on June 30, 2024. Base rent was $31,000, according to the complaint from the plaintiff’s law firm Lewitt Hackman Shapiro Marshall & Harlan.

    A case management conference is scheduled on March 21. Ohm of Hilton Hilton wrote in an email to The Real Deal: “We have very good reason for defending ourselves in this lawsuit, the results of which will be apparent as soon as the matter is resolved in the appropriate forum.” 

    She did not confirm whether the company is represented by an attorney or whether it is working in a new office.

    Rick Hilton’s profile on the state’s Department of Real Estate website lists 270 North Canon Drive as his business address. However, the profile notes that the Canon Drive address has been marked as “unreliable.”

    Strong winds were blowing and they made for a cold and blustery afternoon but the swimming pool was nice and hot and so was the Burroughs High girls’ water polo team which jumped out to an early lead and was never headed when facing visiting city rival Burbank.

    Behind four players scoring two goals in a Pacific League battle, the Bears pushed aside the Bulldogs 10-2 on Tuesday afternoon before a lively crowd.

    Morgan Wright, Ava Tomlinson and Derrika Berenguer all scored twice in the initial seven-minute period as Burroughs led 6-0.

    Wright’s 12-yard toss with 6:39 made it 1-0 and Wright’s seven-yarder with 4:21 pushed the lead to 4-0.

    Tomlinson’s eight-yarder with 5:25 left in the period made it 2-0 and Tomlinson’s seven-yarder with 42 seconds remaining made it 6-0.

    “I think as a team we all were able to really get in the game. Nerves were a little high before the game but we got in the pool and knew what we had to do,” said Tomlinson, a junior and the team’s leading scorer during the season. “We played our own game and we were able to capitalize and play in sync as a team which I’m really proud of.” 

    When Berenguer scored with 4:56 left from nine yards the advantage ballooned to 3-0 and Berenguer’s seven-yarder with 3:13 on the clock saw the Bears’ sprint to a 5-0 cushion.

    Olivia Dominiguez and Ana Zubkoff both scored solo goals in the second quarter as the Bears (8-11 and 5-2 in league) led 8-1 at halftime.

    A five-yard throw from Dominguez with 5:59 made it 7-1 and Zubkoff’s eight-yarder pushed the advantage to 8-1.

    Tomlinson enjoys these rivalry matches because they are always exciting and usually competitive.

    “Personally, this game was a really fun one for me,” she noted. “Rivalry games are always fun. I’m proud of my performance and just glad I got to have fun with my team and the seniors on Senior Night.”

    Siahni Suarez found the back of the net from five yards in the third quarter as Burroughs extended its margin to 9-1 as thirty seconds remained.

    Suarez added a seven-yarder with 3:26 left on the ticker in the fourth period as the Bears jumped ahead 10-2.

    Burbank’s Lizzie Bislamyan broke the Bears’ scoring skein with 6:18 left in the second period on a six-yard throw that cut the lead to 6-1.

    Burbank first-year coach Hayk Minasyan was proud of the effort from his team.

    “We had a rough start to our game, getting six goals scored against us in the first quarter,” he said. “We started picking up our game in the remaining quarters but couldn’t finish our shots. If we stopped them in the first quarter and finished our shots this game should’ve went differently.”

    Kristina Khamtrashyan’s 14-yarder with 4:11 remaining in the fourth stanza for the Bulldogs (5-13 and 2-5 in league) trimmed the Burroughs lead to 9-2.

    LOS ANGELES – In a press conference Friday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore will retire at the end of February. An emotional at times Chief Moore told reporters he was proud of his career at the department.

    “It’s been my distinct honor and privilege to have served for more than four decades on the finest police department in the world, and for the last five and a half years as chief, some six years ago, when the opportunity to seek the position of chief of police occurred,” said Moore.

    Moore thanked his wife Cindy for her support throughout his career in law enforcement and then told reporters the opportunity to spend time with family factored into his decision to retire.

    Moore has been LA’s top cop since June 4, 2018 after then Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti appointed him to the post which was ratified by the Los Angeles City Council on June 27, 2018.

    Moore is a veteran law enforcement official having joined the LAPD in 1981. Rising through the ranks he was promoted to Captain and then took over command of the LAPD’s troubled Rampart Division after its former commanding officer Rafael Pérez, was arrested in a scandal in numerous crimes and corruption, notably the shooting and framing of notorious street gang leader Javier Ovando, in addition to the theft and resale of at least $800,000 of cocaine from LAPD evidence lockers.

    After years of supervisorial assignments, Moore was promoted to First Assistant Chief and transferred to be the Director – Office of Operations, responsible for overseeing the department’s geographic bureaus and patrol divisions which provide uniformed and investigative services to the city.

    The Chief during his career in the LAPD, has received numerous commendations and awards for his police service including the department’s Medal of Valor, the Police Medal, the Police Star, and the Police Meritorious Service Medal.

    Mayor Bass did not name a successor but indicated there will be a nationwide search for the next LAPD chief, which Moore will play a continuing role as a consultant.

    LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Police Department said that Topanga Area patrol officers have arrested the suspect in a series of acts of vandalism in the northwestern area of the San Fernando Valley over this past weekend.

    64-year-old Edelidio David Wallace was apprehended in the 21000 block of Victory Boulevard at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. The LAPD’s Major Crimes Division, is seeking additional victims of a vandalism suspect in the Topanga area.

    An LAPD spokesperson said that Wallace is the man seen in multiple surveillance videos throwing rocks and cement bricks to smash glass windows and doors at over five businesses.

    On January 6, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Topanga Area patrol officers responded to three vandalism incidents within three blocks of the 20900 block of Victory Boulevard. The suspect used rocks and cement bricks to smash glass windows and doors belonging to several closed businesses. The suspect fled from the location on foot.

    On January 8, 2024, between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., the same suspect vandalized additional closed businesses on Vanowen Street, Topanga Canyon Boulevard, and Sherman Way, again throwing rocks and bricks. All the vandalism occurred within a two-mile radius. Major Crimes Division is investigating the vandalism series to determine if there is a hate crime nexus based on three businesses being Jewish-owned. The rocks recovered had “Glory” and “Pay Up” written on them.

    Major Crimes Division is also investigating additional vandalisms that occurred on January 5th and January 7th in the same general area to determine if they are related.

    WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Police Department’s Topanga Division detectives are seeking the person or person’s responsible for the acts of vandalism against three Jewish-owned businesses this past week.

    A spokesperson for the LAPD told local media that officers responded to a call of vandalism at a business in the 20900 block of Victory Boulevard just after 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. 

    When they arrived, they found that a rock had been thrown at a business with a note written in Aramaic. Surveillance video captures a man walking up to the business before throwing a rock through the storefront. 

    KTLA reported a Jewish-owned business two doors down on the same property was also vandalized, likely by the same suspect or suspects, one business owner believes.

    “Apparently, only me and my neighbor who have a mezuzah outside got broken into,” one storeowner told KTLA. “So, we know it’s a hate crime, and oddly enough, when we came in, there was a rock that said ‘payback’ and ‘glory,’ and I don’t know what that means.” 

    “Obviously, these guys are not happy with us being Jewish in the neighborhood,” he added.

    The owners of the vandalized businesses told KTLA that another business – a dance studio – was vandalized on the same morning, and that another nearby Jewish-owned establishment had been vandalized two days prior. The owner of the dance studio confirmed that she is not Jewish.

    The LAPD has not yet released a description of the suspect.

Since she had heard of Project Angel Food through Charo, she wanted to join.” Charo expressed her enthusiasm for volunteering, exclaiming, “I love people. This is my passion!”

    The meals were provided through “drive-by” pick-up for volunteers who then delivered them to Project Angel Food clients. The traditional Thanksgiving dinners included roasted turkey, root vegetables, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and a slice of pumpkin cheesecake. Additionally, vegetarian meals were also provided. The Thanksgiving Day meals were sponsored by The Stanley & Joyce Black Family Foundation, with additional support from Joybird, which furnished the Joybird VIP Love Lounge, allowing volunteers to take a break during the morning of service.

    Project Angel Food remains dedicated to providing daily meals to 2,500 critically ill individuals and delivering more than 1.5 million medically tailored meals annually across Los Angeles. Their clients often grapple with serious illnesses compounded by challenges such as poverty, aging, and isolation.     LA officials: Suspect in homeless murders is in custody

    LOS ANGELES – At a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Mayor Karen Bass and LAPD Chief Michel Moore along with Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón and LA County Sheriff Robert Luna announced the arrest of the suspect in the murders of three homeless individuals across the city.

    LAPD Chief Moore identified the suspect as Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, of Los Angeles. Powell is alleged to be the gunman behind the murders of homeless men across Los Angeles from Nov. 26 to Nov. 29.

    After a multiple agency cooperative investigation triggered by the follow-home murder of Nicholas Simbolon of San Dimas on Tuesday night by LASD homicide investigators, a car and weapon in that case was identified by the Beverly Hills Police Department.

    Simbolon was a tenured L.A. County employee, who worked for the chief executive officer as a project manager in the IT department.  

    “He was key in developing applications, software that helped to propel the office forward, and also helped us to meet our mission to deliver services to citizens and residents of L.A. County,” Sheriff Robert Luna said at Thursday’s press conference.

    On Thursday morning, the suspect, Powell, was spotted in Beverly Hills driving the same vehicle and taken into custody.  

    “When you get to a scene, you just start playing it backwards,” Sheriff Luna said while announcing the arrest [Thursday]. “They start looking at every avenue.”  

    During the arrest, deputies recovered a gun that appeared to match the description of the weapon used to commit the crime, authorities added.

    “Over the course of the investigation of our murders, we were able to identify the vehicle we believe is connected to our three homicides as being the same vehicle that Mr. Powell used in the murder of Mr. Simbolon,” Moore said at Saturday’s press conference. “[We learned] that it was being held in custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as evidence of their murder.”  

    According to Chief Moore, that vehicle was the same being sought in the killings of the three homeless persons and the gun seized was the weapon used in the killings.

    A verdict in the New York civil business fraud trial of former President Donald Trump — which had been anticipated Wednesday — is now expected to arrive in early to mid-February, a court spokesman said.

    That new timeline for the written decision by Judge Arthur Engoron is still a “rough estimate” and “subject to modifications,” said Alfred Baker, spokesman for the New York State Office of Court Administration.

    “But that’s the working plan now,” Baker said.

    Engoron at the end of Trump’s trial last month in Manhattan Supreme Court said he would try to issue his final ruling by Wednesday, but noted there was “no guarantee” he would stick to that timeframe.

    That day passed, with reporters habitually refreshing the court’s docket website, without the final judgment being posted.

    In the case, New York Attorney General Letitia James accuses Trump, the Trump Organization, his two adult sons and top company executives of inflating Trump’s net worth on his financial statements in violation of a state antifraud law.

    Engoron before the trial found the defendants liable for fraud.

    The trial was conducted to determine penalties and resolve other claims of wrongdoing from James’ lawsuit. Engoron conducted the trial without a jury.

    Reuters first reported the new timeframe for the verdict.
