    Global charter specialist Chapman Freeborn has won the “Innovation in Regional Service Expansion” award at the Aviation Innovation Awards 2025. This recognition reflects the company’s strategic regional growth and leadership in business aviation across IMEA and China.

    Part of the Aviation Annual Gala Evening (AAGE) programme, the ceremony took place on the 19th November 2025, during Dubai Airshow Week. The event saw awards given for innovation in categories such as the airline industry, business aviation, air cargo and logistics, the airport industry, MRO, aviation finance, airspace management, aviation sustainability, and others.

    Chapman Freeborn was recognized for innovation in regional service expansion in the “Business Aviation (Passenger & Cargo)” category. Judges highlighted the company’s client-centric approach, operational scale, and continued innovation, which all paved the way for its successful expansion into China and the Middle East.

  • Cotswolds Distillery Founder Daniel Szor installed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers – Luxury Hospitality Magazine

    Daniel Szor, Founder of the Cotswolds Distillery, has today been installed as the 378th Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers, one of the City of London’s ancient Livery Companies, founded in 1638 to promote excellence in the spirits trade.

    Daniel became a Freeman of the Company in 2015 and a Liveryman in 2016, joining the Court in 2022. His appointment recognises his contribution to the revival of English whisky and his leadership in sustainable craft distilling.

    After a successful international career in finance, Daniel founded the Cotswolds Distillery in 2014, creating the region’s first full-scale distillery and helping to establish the Cotswolds as one of Britain’s leading spirits destinations. He is also Co-Founder and Chair of the English Whisky Guild, representing the growing number of English whisky producers, and has previously served on the boards of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association and the Gin Guild.

    Commenting on this appointment Daniel says, “ I am delighted to be taking on this new role and it will be a privilege to serve the Company this year, supporting its future direction as well as working with key beneficiary partners.”

    A passionate advocate for sustainability and for protecting the rural landscapes that inspire his brand, Daniel has also served as a Secretary of State–appointed member of the Cotswolds Conservation Board.

  • Des Gunewardena’s “D3 Collective’’ to Launch Three New venues at the Historic Pillar Hall as part of Olympia’s £1.3bn Transformation – Luxury Hospitality Magazine

    Opening in Spring 2026, restaurateur Des Gunewardena, founder of D3 Collective and co-founder and former CEO of D&D London, will unveil a trio of exciting new venues at the landmark £1.3bn redevelopment of Olympia, a new globally leading culture and entertainment destination.

    Gunewardena’s three new concepts will be housed within the magnificent 30,000 sq ft Pillar Hall – a Grade II* listed landmark which was the site of one of the first film screenings in Britain and hosted fashion shows in the early 1980s. The investment in the Pillar Hall development will be in excess of £10m. The launch will see the debut of Idalia a 300 cover, all day restaurant on Pillar Hall’s ground floor; Pepperbird, a 70 cover speakeasy bar tucked beneath Pillar Hall; and Upstairs at Pillar Hall, a spectacular double height 500+ capacity event space on the upper floors of the building.

    Pillar Hall’s kitchens will be led by an accomplished all-female team, with Samantha Williams appointed Executive Chef and Lorena Tommasi as Executive Pastry Chef. Williams, previously Executive Chef at Jeremy King’s The Park and former Group Executive Chef for Angela Hartnett, will oversee the venues’ culinary direction, while Tommasi, whose experience spans The Park, Annabel’s, George Club and Josephine by Claude Bosi, will lead on pastries and desserts, which will be highlights of Idalia’s and Pillar Hall’s event menus. The menus will reflect Williams’ and Tommasi’s modern interpretation of British cuisine, featuring both quintessentially English dishes and international influences that have become staples of the UK dining scene.

    Originally built in 1886 by architect Henry Edward Coe – the visionary behind Olympia’s iconic Grand Hall – Pillar Hall’s neoclassical interiors have been transformed by global design studio Robert Angell Design International. The redesign will honour the building’s historic architecture while introducing a bold, contemporary aesthetic. The project reunites Des Gunewardena and Robert Angell, whose previous collaboration – the acclaimed 14 Hills restaurant – won multiple design awards.

    Robert Angell Design International has established itself as a leader in luxury interior design worldwide and in 2021 was named ‘’Hospitality Designer of the Decade’’ by International and Hotel Property Awards.

    Idalia’s name is associated with goddess Aphrodite who resided on Mount Olympus – a nod to the beauty, light, and allure of Pillar Hall. The name reached peak popularity in the 1880s, the very decade that Pillar Hall was built. The restaurant will be designed as a series of distinct spaces, reflecting the feel of the ‘House of Idalia’. Guests will begin in the conservatory, surrounded by lush greenery, before moving to the bar, where classic and theatrical Idalia cocktails will be crafted, and finally to the warm and inviting dining room. Idalia will offer seating for 250 with a 50-cover terrace spilling into Olympia’s Grand Hall.

    Pillar Hall

    Pepperbird will be a basement speakeasy. Live music will be a key part of its identity, drawing inspiration not only from 1970s jazz – but also from Olympia’s rich rock music heritage having been the venue for legendary performances from bands like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Who.

    Upstairs at Pillar Hall the building’s 500+ capacity events venue will feature Robert Angell’s modern interior created within the building’s remarkable classical structure. The venue showcases soaring ceilings – with a mezzanine overlooking the main dining and entertainment area below – ornate pillars, and intricate mouldings celebrate the building’s Victorian craftsmanship. On Friday nights and at weekends Upstairs at Pillar Hall will evolve into a restaurant and bar with live music.

    Pillar Hall marks the second new venture from restaurateur Des Gunewardena since founding his new hospitality company, D3 Collective.

    Vilnius – new narrative for Europe

    The European Hospitality City award holds a particular significance, as it is not presented every year. The jury reserves it for cities that truly embody and inspire the ideals of European hospitality – sincerity, openness, excellence, and human warmth.

    According to the organizers of the awards, “beyond its architectural beauty and heritage, Vilnius represents a new narrative for Europe – a capital where tradition and innovation coexist naturally. This award, therefore, carries both a symbolic and supportive dimension: a gesture of recognition and encouragement, expressing our wish to see Vilnius and Lithuania continue to flourish as shining examples of authentic European hospitality.”

    In addition to the city-wide award, 4 representatives from Vilnius hospitality sector were recognized among this year’s laureates:

    – Radisson Collection Astorija was voted as the 2025 Hotel of the Year in Lithuania

    – Telegrafas head chef Donatas Šatkauskas was named Chef of the Year

    – Grand Hotel Vilnius – Curio Collection by Hilton general manager Sigita Rudzevičiėnė was awarded the Hotel director of the Year award.

    – Lithuanian Hotels and Restaurants Association president Evalda Šiškauskienė was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in the hotels and restaurants industry.

    The European Hotel Awards are prestigious accolades that celebrate excellence in hospitality, usually in Europe’s major tourism destinations. In 2024, the Grand Hotel Vilnius, Curio Collection by Hilton, became the first establishment from the Baltic countries to make the list as the Historic Hotel of the Year. This year’s multiple awards reflect the continuing development of Vilnius’ high-end hospitality sector.

    Vilnius strengthens its profile on the European travel map

    The latest recognitions further confirm Vilnius’ emergence as a hub for international hospitality professionals, with the city hosting major industry events. In addition to the European Hotel Awards, the Future Hospitality & Tourism Forum took place in Vilnius this April, while the Baltic Gastro Summit 2025 launched an annual tradition in the Lithuanian capital. The city is also preparing to welcome the General Assembly of HOTREC – an umbrella association representing the hospitality sector in Europe – next year.

    With all this, Vilnius is poised to strengthen its profile on the European travel map. The city is already seeing increased interest from industry leaders, event organizers, and travellers seeking destinations that offer both authenticity and a high standard of service.

  • Duke Street Boutique Hotel now re-open in Liverpool under new ownership – Luxury Hospitality Magazine

    Duke Street Boutique Hotel is back open and in business, just over a month after being bought by new owner, Golding Group.

    The purpose-built venue in the centre of Liverpool had been on the market for nine months after going up for sale for a guide price of £2.25m in January this year.

    Golding Group has stayed true to its commitment to re-open the hotel as soon as possible after expressing its excitement at bringing it back from closure.

    The 30-room hotel is the latest addition to the portfolio of hotels and serviced accommodation offered by the company which built its reputation, originally, as an estate agent across the Liverpool region.

    Golding Group moved into hotels and serviced accommodation around seven years ago, offering respected establishments like 62 Castle Street Hotel with its hidden Lounge @62 cocktail bar to an increasingly successful hospitality portfolio, and regularly hosting around 300 stags and hen visitors to the city at its living spaces located on Lime Street at weekends.

    The Duke Street Boutique Hotel, which originally launched in 2021 before going into administration at the beginning of 2025, is a chic, modern and purpose-designed hotel.

    ‘Perfectly’ situated in the city centre, it’s within minutes of Chinatown and close to popular locations like Liverpool ONE, the M&S Bank Arena, Lime Street and Central Station, and many of Liverpool’s bars, restaurants, and main tourist attractions.

    It contains 30 en-suite rooms, three of which open out onto an outdoor courtyard area.

    Golding Group has refreshed the hotel which it says was already finished to a premium standard, including air conditioning unlike other similar venues. They have undertaken a full cosmetic refurbishment at the property including a redesigned reception area with a chic resident’s bar.

    Unlike the previous hotel, which was self-service check-in, it will be fully staffed giving a round-the-clock friendly service and offer a Breakfast-To-Go with freshly made croissants, juice, and tea or coffee. Prices will start at around £50-60 during the week.

    Boutique Design New York (BDNY), the leading trade fair and conference for the boutique hospitality and lifestyle industry, gathered nearly 15,000 designers, architects, brand executives, hoteliers, developers, purchasers, manufacturers, and other professionals at the Javits Center November 12-13 to experience new products, engaging conversations, and strategic networking events.

    BDNY maintained the momentum from 2022, a testament to the resilience and growth of the boutique and lifestyle hospitality industry. In comparison to 2022, the show saw a 16% increase in overall attendance, a 15% increase in qualified buyers, and a 20% increase in exhibitors. More than 650 exhibiting companies participated, which included a greater international presence with more companies exhibiting from Spain and Italy, plus new pavilions from Portugal and Ukraine.

    Besides the CEU-accredited stage designed by Goodrich, which was conceived as a talk show studio sculpted through color and graphics, BDNY also featured four Designed Spaces, a signature of the show, which partners leading design and brand teams with manufacturers to create one-of-a-kind lounges and stages on the show floor.

    1 Hotels crafted the Designed by Nature experience using sustainably sourced materials, layers of greenery, and neutral-hued furnishings. Imaginative Travel by Andaz, a collaboration between Hyatt and Host Hotels, designed by Otherworld Creative and Within Light Studio, delivered a luxe bar-at-sunset concept by balancing ethereal lighting and earthy textures to capture the very essence of a beachside escape.

    Rockwell Group used theatrical inspiration and subtly placed lighting to highlight iridescent fabric panels in darker, jewel tones to emulate a luxurious supper club vibe in the ChromaClub. And lastly, KTGY + Simeone Deary Design Group was inspired by the Year of the Rabbit for Down the Rabbit Hole, part bunny hutch, part secret garden, with a hint of a mad tea party, to evoke conversation and build community and camaraderie.     BDNY Meet, a platform for targeted connections between exhibitors and attendees, continued to serve as an important matchmaking tool both prior to and onsite at the trade fair. More than 3,700 attendees and exhibitors engaged with the matchmaking and meeting request tool, an increase of 17% compared to 2022.

    The Best of BDNY 2023 Product Design Competition and BDNY Best Exhibit Competition winners were announced during the show. Chosen by two panels of industry experts, product winners and finalists were chosen across 14 categories for their aesthetic progress, functionality, and innovation; while best exhibit honorees in four categories earned nods for creativity in design, visual impact, effective and efficient use of materials, and outstanding use of space, color, texture, lighting, and graphics in their display.

    This year’s Best Exhibit Competition winners were Samuel & Sons Passementerie (Small), JACLO Industries (Medium), and Mittman Hospitality (Large). Mittman Hospitality also won the Best in Show award. NEWH CEO Shelia Lohmiller was also honored with the Manfred Steinfeld Humanitarian Award.

    Maset opens its doors this November, inviting Londoners to dive into French coastal cuisine from the Occitania region. Set on the buzzy, sophisticated Chiltern Street, Maset brings French food with a modern difference. Offering a lighter, brighter style of cooking, synonymous with the region and gently influenced by North Africa, Italy and Spain.

    The menu offers a distinct change from traditional French restaurants, reflecting Melody’s time spent in the Occitan region and celebrating seasonality and British locality. Dishes unfold over five sections: Merenda, to start, les plats, sides and desserts, menu highlights include:

           Bouillabaisse croquettas – Maset’s take on the famous Marseille dish.

           Pâtes au Pistou – light and fresh spinach linguine, made each day, with a regional basil-based sauce, typical of Nice.

           Monkfish – whole tail, marinated in preserved lemons, cooked on the bone and served sliced, with a lardo veil and sea beets.

           Camargue rice – nutty whole rice from the salt flats south of Arles where the flamingos live, mixed with capers, olives, seasonal herbs – and dressed with fruity olive oil and verjus.

           Preserved Lemon Martini and wines are sourced primarily from small vineyards in France, Italy and Spain curated to be different from the usual wines.
