    One of the hardest realizations in life, and one of the most liberating, is that our mothers are neither saints nor saviors — they are just people who, however messy or painful our childhood may have been, and however complicated the adult relationship, have loved us the best way they knew how, with the cards they were dealt and the tools they had.

    It is a whole life’s work to accept this elemental fact, and a life’s triumph to accept it not with bitterness but with love.

    How to make that liberating shift of perspective is what the playwright, suffragist, and psychologist Florida Scott-Maxwell (September 14, 1883–March 6, 1979) considers in a passage from her 1968 autobiography The Measure of My Days (public library).

    She writes:

    A mother’s love for her children, even her inability to let them be, is because she is under a painful law that the life that passed through her must be brought to fruition. Even when she swallows it whole she is only acting like any frightened mother cat eating its young to keep it safe.

    In a sentiment that calls to mind Kahlil Gibran’s insight into the delicate balance of intimacy and independence essential for romantic love — which is always an echo of our formative attachments — she adds:

    It is not easy to give closeness and freedom, safety plus danger.

    With a wary eye to the brunt of parental expectation under which all children live, well into adulthood, she writes:

    No matter how old a mother is she watches her middle-aged children for signs of improvement. It could not be otherwise for she is impelled to know that the seeds of value sown in her have been winnowed. She never outgrows the burden of love, and to the end she carries the weight of hope for those she bore. Oddly, very oddly, she is forever surprised and even faintly wronged that her sons and daughters are just people, for many mothers hope and half expect that their newborn child will make the world better, will somehow be a redeemer. Perhaps they are right, and they can believe that the rare quality they glimpsed in the child is active in the burdened adult.

    Perhaps that glimpse is what Maurice Sendak meant when he observed that life is largely a matter of “having your child self intact and alive and something to be proud of.”

    We all know there’s a fine line between being generous and being a people pleaser. And maybe, a few of us have even struggled with it.

    When we try so hard to accommodate everyone’s feelings, we tend to forget about our own boundaries. The truth is, we can’t please everyone and sometimes trying to do so, might break relationships, rather than make them flourish.

    That’s the very heart of a podcast episode of Honest Conversations (exclusive for Mindvalley Members) with Kristina Mänd-Lakhiani, co-founder of Mindvalley, and transformational coach Hailey Magee.

    Taking insights from their heartfelt discussion, here’s a dive into what it means to run on this pattern of caring excessively for the needs of others:

    What Is a People Pleaser?

    People pleasing is when someone puts other people’s dreams, needs, and aspirations ahead of their own. It’s a compulsive behavior to care for people even when it means letting go of yourself in order to do so.

    Hailey describes the people-pleasing syndrome as chronically sacrificing yourself for the ones around you. You may often feel like you are a second character in your own story and you’re not living for yourself anymore. And maybe you’ve never learned how to do so.

    Main Signs That You Are a People Pleaser

    Sometimes, it’s easy to fall into a never-ending cycle of caring for others without realizing you’re doing so. Here are a few signs that may indicate the tendency to people-please:

    • Saying “no” is really difficult for you
    • The need for constant approval
    • Low self-esteem and self-respect
    • You tend to agree in order to be liked
    • Setting boundaries makes you feel guilty
    • You don’t usually take time for yourself
    • Other’s opinion of you makes you feel anxious
    • Constantly apologizing even if you know it’s not your fault
    • Feeling afraid to be seen as selfish
    • Not sharing your feelings with others

    Of course, from time to time, you might catch yourself trying to please people and that’s also part of human nature. However, the real goal is to liberate yourself from patterns that are holding you back from living authentically and in connection with yourself and others.

    Reasons Why You Might Be a People Pleaser

    People pleasing can stem from various causes that impacted your life in one way or another. Here go a few of the more common reasons:

    • Environment. Being raised in an environment where your emotional needs for being seen, valued and listened to aren’t met creates an unconscious pattern of being a people pleaser, explains Hailey. 
    • Role in relationships. Marisa Peer, world-renowned Rapid Transformational Therapy® (RTT®) trainer and trainer of Mindvalley’s Uncompromised Life Quest highlights one of the roles people play in relationships: the carer. So if you think that there’s no one around to fulfill your needs, you become the person who takes care of everybody else in order to be loved.
    • Feeling unsafe. Hailey points out that oftentimes when you tend to please everyone around you, the reason behind this is not feeling safe and secure within a relationship. So you keep yourself quiet and small to feel safe. You might unconsciously believe that your relationships will end if you set boundaries and put yourself first.

    Letting go of belief systems that no longer serve you may be somehow difficult, but it’s 100% possible. And sometimes it’s helpful to understand the long-term consequences of constantly draining your energy for others.

    Why You Can’t Please Everyone

    Realistically, we really simply can’t please everyone. Yet, a 2022 survey by YouGov found that 49% of Americans identify themselves as people-pleasers — women more than men.

    The constant need to put others’ needs before your own can leave you feeling drained and depleted. And here comes the danger of being a people pleaser. This state of mind can seriously affect your emotional and mental health. 

    The real goal isn’t to be liked by everyone; rather, it’s about you liking yourself no matter how many people you have around you or how much praise you can get from others. You may be surprised that in a state of peace and acceptance of who you are in every moment, you will attract genuine connections and more desirable things than you can imagine.

    How to Stop Being a People Pleaser: Tips From Mindvalley Experts

    As Hailey puts it, “Breaking a pattern is all about looking within.” And once you admit that you’ve been running your relationships on pleasing other people and forgetting about yourself, here are some tips from Mindvalley experts to liberate yourself and go deeper within:

    1. Start setting (small) boundaries

    Hailey encourages you to slowly practice setting boundaries and saying no. You can take the first steps by starting with small things that you don’t want to do. 

    Take, for example, choosing a restaurant that you truly want to go to. Or deciding where you want to go on the next hangout you’re invited to. 

    Focus on the simple things that you neglect because you think they don’t matter in building self-love and self-respect. And then just practice until you feel more comfortable.

    Leaning into the discomfort of setting boundaries is no easy task but it will dramatically change how much energy you save for yourself. And as Hailey says, it’s true that “one of the most challenging things of boundary setting is that we can control if we set a boundary but we cannot control how other people will take it.”

    You may think of that and find it terrifying. However, this is why you slowly build your resilience toward saying those big no’s that you feel deeply.

    2. Take up (your) space

    As mentioned earlier, one of the reasons for being a people pleaser is feeling unsafe so you compress yourself. Sometimes you may be afraid of taking up your space in a relationship and owning your voice.

    But Hailey suggests asking yourself, “What would your life look like long-term if you didn’t own who you truly are?” How do you feel in that life? What are the consequences?

    Of course, it’s easier said than done. However, the same rule applies: slowly but surely. You may not feel like turning your life upside down in a heartbeat. And that’s okay. You may, however, think of what you can control right now. And focus on what’s in your control every step of the way.

    3. Meet your dragons

    What Kristina encourages you to do is meeting your dragons — in other words, facing your shadows. A lot of times people tend to be people pleasers because they’re actually afraid of what they may find if they look inside themselves.

    But you may be surprised; you might even like it. Or you could realize that it’s really not as bad as you thought it would be. Just imagine for one moment that you’d start putting yourself first. What part of you would come up? 

    Kristina highlights that you can run away from your emotions. But the unacknowledged feelings will just pile up somewhere inside you and explode at some point. The only way out is through, as the saying goes. 

    So don’t be afraid to dive deeper into your process of shadow work. You’ll notice that behind people-pleasing behaviors hide some hurt parts of yourself that want your love and attention.

    4. Switch off autopilot

    Having moments of awareness will improve any areas of your life, not just help you deal with people pleasing. So Kristina recommends practicing moments of awareness with curiosity and no judgment.

    Just observe how you feel when you catch yourself putting other people’s needs before your own or agreeing to do something although you actually feel like the answer is a no. What would you truly say at that moment?

    “Awareness allows you to switch off autopilot and add space to your living experience,” explains Kristina. By just creating awareness, you make room for a different response to situations where you’re functioning off old patterns. 

    5. Embrace your unf*ckwithable mindset

    Founder of Mindvalley, Vishen defines the concept of being unf*ckwithable as truly being at peace and in touch with yourself. Additionally, nothing anyone says or does bothers you and no negativity can touch you.

    Vishen suggests that one way to develop your unf*ckwithable mindset is to set your self-fueled goals (which are goals that act as anchors in your life.) Self-fueled goals give you unlimited power and motivation to continue creating the life of your dreams.

    And bottom line of creating a strong mindset where no one can mess with you is focusing on nurturing the love you have for yourself. Self-love is an effective remedy for giving yourself the love you may require from others.

    I’ll show you how to make sure that your clothes are versatile enough to go with any outfit or pair of shoes, while still being stylish and fun.

    How Do I Make A Spring Wardrobe Capsule?

    Spring has sprung, and it’s time to get your wardrobe ready for the season.

    So what’s a capsule wardrobe?

    It’s a way of organizing your clothes so that you can make the most of your closet space and only buy things that fit into your personal style.

    Here are three steps to make a spring wardrobe capsule:

    1. Ask Yourself, “What Kind Of Clothes Do I Want To Wear?”

    To start a spring wardrobe capsule, you’ll need to ask yourself, “What kind of clothes do I want to wear?”

    This is the most important question in the process.

    It will help you figure out what kind of style you’re going for, which is going to be important for narrowing down your options as you shop.

    If you have a clear idea of what kind of clothing you like and what looks good on your body type, then this process will go much more smoothly.

    2. Nominate 5 Items From Each Category

    The next step to creating a capsule wardrobe is to nominate 5 things from each category.

    For example, if you have jeans and pants, you might nominate 5 pairs of jeans and 5 pairs of pants.

    Then, go through your closet and pull out all of your items that fit into each category.

    This will be your main wardrobe!

    You can also add accessories like scarves or hats that match the colors of your outfits, but they’re not necessary.

    Once you’ve selected all of these items, try them on with different combinations.

    That way you can see what works best together, and what doesn’t look as good as it should!

    3. Mix And Match Clothes

    Mixing and matching your clothes is a great way to create a capsule wardrobe.

    Definitions of a sex goddess mainly refer to a female being sexually attractive to our male counterparts. However, sex goddess is more than just that; it’s about female sexual energy and being at one with the senses. 

    [Central sexual energy] is actually our creative energy,” says Rachel Pringle, embodiment coach and trainer of Mindvalley’s Wild Woman Sensuality Quest. “It’s the same thing. So when we’re blocking our sensual and sexual energy, we’re also blocking our creative energy.

    The reality is, many of us are taught to provide pleasure, yet we often don’t get the vice versa of the experience. However, learning how to be a sex goddess enables us to meet our needs without external validation and consciously relate to our partners without being led by our hearts or, Heaven forbid, our vaginas.

    Because we’re able to do so, the sexual goddess status can help express who we truly are and what we’re about. It gives us the confidence to surrender to the rhythm of our bodies and this, ultimately, extends into other areas of our lives. We are no longer a mystery unto ourselves.

    Why Is Connecting to Your Inner Sex Goddess Important? 

    Being one with your inner sex goddess has its benefits — not only for pleasure but for your sexual and overall well-being. As it helps to connect you with your mind, body, and soul connection, there’s a likelihood of finding the path to self-love and, ultimately, your ability to express how to be loved.

    According to a 2022 research article, people who “experience sex as more pleasurable” are more inclined to make sexually healthy decisions. This includes communicating about sexually transmitted infection risks with a new partner, negotiating condom use, and using protection.

    Connecting with your inner sex goddess helps you “remember the confident and deeply empowered state of your natural existence,” explains Rachel. “It reminds you of your self-trust and your self-love and it is accessible to each and every one of us.

    5 Ways to Awaken Your Inner Sex Goddess

    In this modern day and age, talking about female sexual energy — our bodies and the pleasures we get from it — is still somewhat taboo.

    Granted, women’s magazines have been covering for years (all those Cosmopolitan’s “How To’s”) and more recently with Gwenyth Paltrow’s the goop lab on Netflix, but “vagina,” “labia,” “clitoris” are still unmentionables when it comes to speaking freely about the female body.

    Thankfully though, research shows that young women are talking about it more frequently with their friends. Because sex and sensuality, despite what we’ve been cultivated into thinking, aren’t anything to be ashamed of.

    So here are three ways you can awaken the greatness that is your sex goddess:

    1. Know what you want

    In order to get what you want from life, you should first know what you truly want from it. Happiness may be the root of your desires, but pinpointing your wants and wishes may take a little more than making a list. 

    If you want something that’s really important, the first thing is to start changing your beliefs,” explains Marisa Peer, creator of Rapid Transformational Therapy® (RTT®) and trainer of Mindvalley’s Rapid Transformational Hypnotherapy™ For Abundance Quest.

    So as a starting point, here are two things to keep in mind:

    Identify what you want

    Women are known to think about sex for at least a fourth of their day. However, a 2022 survey by Scarlet Society, a leading online resource for women’s sexual health and wellness after 40, found that less than a third (specifically American women between 40 to 60 years old) are truly satisfied with their sex life.

    If you can relate to this sentiment (even if you’re not yet 40), it may just help to create a list of what you want out of your sex life.

    Is it sex on the regular? Does it involve toys or costumes? Something more risqué involving a “trois”? The feeling of intimacy? A deeper connection?

    Keep in mind, though, that it’s easy to pass general wants in life, like “making love every day” or “feeling good.” However, putting in the conscious effort to list what really matters to you and what makes you excited can give you more meaning in your pleasure-seeking experiences.

    The next mechanism, Swart explains, is selective attention, which means that you start to notice things in your daily life that you already have on your vision board. “It’s like when you buy a new car, and you suddenly see it everywhere,” she says. “It’s basically priming your brain to notice opportunities that will take you closer to your goals.”

    Finally, you have value tagging. The brain does this in two ways, Swart says, including a cold or logical way and in a warm or emotional way. Your survival necessities fall into the logical tagging, while more emotional things (like those on your vision board) fall into the latter tagging.

    “By repeatedly exposing your brain to these images, you’re priming it to not just notice but also grasp the opportunities that will take you closer to what you want,” she says. “That’s why I call vision boards ‘action boards’ because I don’t believe that you can create this fantasy image and sit at home and wait for it to come true,” she adds. “I believe that you need to be out there networking, dating, whatever it is, to get the things that you want.”

    The skills and abilities essential for students who pass out from educational institutions to get adjusted to the industrial front that is more especially connected to communication skills are known as soft skills. These are known as social skills, people skills, and emotional intelligence. 

    These are also known as life skills.  Soft skills are all about anything other than domain knowledge.  They are also about interpersonal relations, the attitude to develop as an individual, and, above all, the personal grooming to face challenges in day-to-day life in the corporate world. 

    With the changing business environment, the competition for job acquisition and job sustainability is intensifying. To get an edge over others in the competitive market, students must complement their hard skills with soft skills to exhibit their real potential. While hard skills are academic skills, knowledge, experience, and level of expertise, soft skills are self-developed, interactive, communication, human, and transferable skills. 

    To survive in today’s challenging global environment, most employers focus on employing, retaining, and promoting people who are dependable, resourceful, ethical, self-directed, have effective communication, willing to work and learn with a positive, right, and strong attitude. 

    Soft vs. Hard Skills

    Soft skills are different from hard skills. Hard skills are technical skills and domain skills while soft skills are non-domain skills. Hard skills are tangible that are measurable and quantifiable while soft skills are intangible that cannot be easily measured and quantified. Hard skills are about what you speak while soft skills are about how you speak with others. 

    Soft skills are a polite and pleasing way of communicating with others while hard skills are what you contribute to the workplace.  Soft skills complement your hard skills. Precisely, soft skills are a presentation of your hard skills in the workplace. Soft skills are interpersonal skills while hard skills are job-related skills. 

    If hard skills are infrastructure soft skills are superstructure. If hard skills are the foundation soft skills are the cement. A judicious blend of both hard and soft skills is essential to achieve your professional success and fast-track your career. 

    You can find hard skills on a resume while you can find soft skills during the employment interview. Hard skills get you an interview while soft skills help you get your employment. Hence, both hard and soft skills are essential to get a job. After joining employment, soft skills help you survive in the workplace while hard skills help you prove yourself professionally. Hence, blending both hard and skills is imperative in the workplace.

    According to Anthony Robbins, there is a famous story told about Tom Watson, the founder of IBM. One of his subordinates had made a terrible mistake that had cost the company ten million dollars. He was called into Watson’s office and said, “I suppose you want my resignation.”

    Watson looked at him and said, “Are you kidding? We just spent ten million dollars educating you.” Tom Watson emphasized the importance of costly corporate education with his soft skills. Similarly, one of the technicians in the Indian Air Force made a blunder resulting in the crash of military aircraft that had cost hugely with the pilot ejecting out safely with his parachute. 

    The technician was called into the commander’s office and the commander looked at the technician and said, “Indian Air Force invested huge money to train you in aircraft. Remember, military education is very costly.”  Hence, you can understand the significance of soft skills in expressing hard skills in a positive, polite, pleasing, and polished manner.

    It is easy to measure hard skills while it is hard to measure soft skills. It is easy to teach hard skills while it is hard to teach soft skills. Usually, teachers teach hard skills while trainers train soft skills. Since soft skills are behavioral skills, it requires extra efforts on the part of trainers to use various tools and techniques including interaction, role-plays, active participation, and experiential learning to bring out the desired behavioral changes in the participants.  

    Soft Skills for Millennials

    Millennials need soft skills along with hard skills. Most millennials are busy with their smartphones with less interaction with others. Hence, they must acquire soft skills to get along with others. 

    The older generations had more physical interaction and developed soft skills. But the millennials must work hard to acquire soft skills the way they acquire hard skills. A proportional mix of hard and soft skills is essential to achieving professional success and a fast-track career

    Millennials are brilliant. They are updated with the latest technology and are aware of leveraging technology effectively. But most of them are addicted to technology. They associate less with others leading to social challenges because they don’t know how to get along with others. They use more of their brain than brawn because they hardly focus on physical activities leading to health challenges. 

    How to Acquire Soft Skills?

    You can acquire soft skills by various means including observation, reading, training, experience, and practice. Soft skills training equips you with skills, abilities, and knowledge. 

    However, your interaction with others helps acquire soft skills greatly. Since soft skills are behavioral skills, people must learn by trial and method by using their emotional intelligence, and through flexibility and adaptability. You must be practical, realistic, and situational to acquire soft skills. Above all, you must learn from your failures to improve your behavior to jell well with others effectively. 

    To improve soft skills, you must develop emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. You must observe and understand people and their behaviors. Travel to unknown destinations to understand people. Talk to them to get along with them. 

    Understand their cultures and behaviors. Traveling teaches tolerance and improves soft skills. When you travel to unknown destinations and communicate in a non-native language, you will be able to improve your soft skills effectively. 

    Final Thoughts

    The professional world of learning and development has undergone tremendous change in the 21st century. Gone are the days when all sectors underscored technical skills alone.  Currently, there is a change in the mindset of companies to highlight hard and soft skills. Companies search for a perfect blend of both soft and hard skills among employees to deliver goods and services effectively to their clients. To conclude, both hard and soft skills are essential to achieving professional success. Hence, blend them judiciously to fast-track your career.

    January is here and it’s time to move on from the large tins of chocolate on the coffee table and the left over Christmas cake and start focusing on self-care again. Let’s look at giving your body a detox. The best person to help us do this is my good friend Melanie Flood of Melanie Flood Nutrition who has some great tips for detoxing in 2023.

    Welcome to 2023 and the opportunity to set some new goals and habits for the year ahead should you wish.  I say ‘should you wish’ as it isn’t a must.  It is totally ok to be content with yourself as you are right now. 

    A new year is, however, an opportunity to assess whether your habits are best serving you.  As a registered nutritionist and health coach specialising in female hormonal health, I often see clients who feel like they have overindulged during the festive periods and need a bit of a reset.  Your diet may not be bad, but it is easy over the festive period for bad habits to creep in.  Even those who have a pretty good diet could do with a tune-up now and again.

    “Surely my body is detoxing anyway?” you might ask.

    My answer? Yes, but…

    These days, more than at any other time in our history, you are inundated with toxins. As well as environmental pollution, there are lots of toxins in the food you eat, such as pesticides and even hormones in intensively farmed meats. Your body is having to cope with substances which it wasn’t designed for. In addition to that there is the toxic waste your body generates through normal activities like digesting food and producing energy.

    How do I know if I need to detox my body?

    So unfortunately, toxins are all around us, and they’re probably the reason why we’re feeling bloated, tired, and cranky.

    If you find you have allergies or food intolerances, frequent headaches, sensitivity to chemicals and environmental pollutants, chronic digestive problems, muscle aches and inflammatory conditions, it’s possible that you have exceeded your body’s capacity to detoxify.

    It would be pretty much impossible to get your exposure to chemicals and environmental toxins down to zero, but reducing your toxic load is the most important step you can take to detoxify your body and reset for a happy and healthy start to 2023. 

    During the festive season, it is common that we have overworked our body with excess alcohol, caffeine and over-eating of potentially inflammatory foods. 

    Although detox is a normal process your body does day in, day out, your system can quickly become overburdened. The detoxification machinery is not always able to keep up with demand. Anything that cannot be eliminated and excreted is locked up safely in the fat stores.

    Advantages of a detox

    When you support your body the right way, you’ll:

    • Get your energy back so you can accomplish so much more, whether that’s at work, with the kids or whatever.
    • Lose that bloated feeling because you’ll have better digestion – no more looking six months pregnant!
    • Rev up your metabolism so you can ditch the extra pounds that have crept on over the last few years.
    • Have clearer, more radiant skin – even without a trip to the beauty salon.
    • Sleep more soundly so that you can wake up full of energy instead of dragging yourself out of bed.
    • Say goodbye to hot flushes or intense PMS symptoms, which in turn creates much more peace at home.
    • And so much more.

    So, how do we detoxify?

    We have five major organs of detoxification:

    1. Skin
    2. Liver
    3. Kidneys
    4. Gut
    5. Lungs

    Toxins leave your body via your breath (lungs), your sweat (skin), your urine (liver and kidneys) and your stools (liver and gut). 

    The skin is your biggest organ in the body.  Sweating, hot saunas, cold showering and body brushing can support this detoxification organ.

    For effective detoxification, you need your liver, kidneys and gut working effectively.  If any of these organs are sluggish (often shown with signs of constipation, excess sweat, frequent urination to name a few) then toxins will circulate in your body and will not be detoxified. 

    You need to increase your breathing rate to get toxins out of your body through your lungs.  Different breathing techniques can support this and aid in toxin removal. 

    For your detox organs to work effectively you need to support them with the right resources.  This means you need the right foods to support detoxification. 

    Body detox foods

    Here are some key ones:

    1. Water is so important for optimal kidney function.  Ensure you are drinking at least 2L of filtered water daily and this should be increased with exercise.  Herbal teas that are particularly supportive of kidney elimination include nettle, dandelion or parsley.
    2. Beetroot is a natural detoxifier and great for supporting liver health in general.  It contains betaine which helps prevent excess fatty deposits in the liver and breaks down toxins.
    3. Broccoli is a sulphur containing vegetable and sulphur supports one of the main detoxification pathways. 
    4. Bone broth is a rich source of glycine which is involved in liver detoxification.
    5. Turmeric is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties, thanks to its unique compounds called curcuminoids, the most important one of which is curcumin. Scientists now agree that low-level inflammation is lurking behind most modern chronic diseases, and that turmeric might even be so powerful that it can match the effects of some anti-inflammatory drugs – and without the side effects.
    6. Ginger is a root, and it’s one of the healthiest spices known to man. It’s been used for millennia medicinally and claims of its benefits are now backed by modern science. The magic ingredient is gingerol, which is responsible for ginger’s medicinal properties.
    7. The humble apple can protect the level of antioxidant enzymes in the liver and reduce DNA damage after toxin exposure.
    8. Protein is vital to ensure the liver has all the necessary amino acids for detoxification.  Good sources include grass fed meats, eggs, beans, legumes and fermented tofu or tempeh. 
    9. A rainbow of fruits and vegetables high in phytonutrients that ensure optimal antioxidant status when dealing with the removal of toxins.

    Pea and Courgette Soup

    (Serves 3)

    Ingredients

    • 4 large courgettes, chopped into 3cm chunks
    • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
    • 2 tbsp coconut oil
    • 200g frozen peas
    • 1 small lime, zested and juiced
    • Large handful fresh parsley, roughly chopped
    • 400ml can coconut milk
    • 200ml water

    Method

    1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
    2. Place the courgettes onto a baking tray with the garlic and spread over the coconut oil.
    3. Bake them for 5 mins, then toss and return to the oven for a further 25-30 mins until soft but not overcooked. Steam the peas for 3-4 minutes until soft.
    4. Add the lime zest and juice, parsley, coconut milk, and water to a blender.
    5. Add the cooked courgette and blitz the mixture together.
    6. Add the peas and blitz again until you reach the consistency you want – how smooth you want the soup is up to you.
    7. Heat the soup and serve.

    How often a couple has sex won’t tell you whether or not there are issues in their sex life or in their relationship. As Francis points out, there are legitimate reasons why couples might have less, little, or no sex, whether for a period of time or as an intentionally sustained part of their relationship. It’s not always a crisis, she adds, and it can in fact even be a good thing for the relationship.

    “If both partners are in agreement to not have sex, then not having sex is not a problem and can bring people closer as they create the kind of relationship that honors their desires,” she says.

    So, when is it a problem to be having less sex?

    According to Francis, a lack of sex in a relationship is only a problem “when folks are not in agreement about the sex they do or do not have; this can make sex a source of conflict and contention.” And that’s exactly what you don’t want—for sex to feel bad or feel like a source of tension in the relationship.

    If at least one person isn’t happy with the state of their shared sex life, Zimmerman says, that’s when there needs to be some conversations about how to get to a place that feels good for both people.

    But, she emphasizes, the way to assess the issue isn’t to start counting how often the couple is having sex or setting benchmarks for how often they ought to be having it. “I believe that talking about frequency, at least talking solely about frequency, is the wrong conversation,” she says.

    One partner might want to have more sex, but making it simply about frequency ignores the very thing that’s most likely to make the other person genuinely interested in more sex—that is, how pleasurable it actually is to have it. “We need to be talking about the quality of pleasure and connection, and we need to understand any barriers someone may have to wanting and enjoying sex,” says Zimmerman.
