  • ATP Flight School to Award $15,000 of Type Rating and ATP CTP Training to Alumni Each Quarter

    ATP Flight School is launching a new initiative to provide eligible alumni with free Airbus A320 type rating programs and Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Programs (ATP CTP). Each quarter, ATP alumni will have the opportunity to be randomly selected to receive one of these training programs, free of charge, to help advance their careers. With its Part 142 airline training center, ATP is one of the few flight schools in the nation with the capability of providing this advanced training to its alumni, and to do so at no cost.

    With over 25,000 graduates, ATP JETS is the largest provider of ATP CTP training in the nation.   • Hispanics Critical to Meeting U.S. Projected Demand for 11.8 Million STEM Professionals by 2030, According to New Report From SHPE & LDC

    SHPE and Latino Donor Collaborative released a report with key facts showcasing a 60% increase for Hispanics in AI technical roles and rising STEM degrees for Latinos that help drive the U.S. economy forward.

    A groundbreaking report released by SHPE, a national organization representing 20,000+ Hispanics in STEM, and the Latino Donor Collaborative (LDC), a think tank dedicated to producing research that highlights economic opportunities, reveals that Hispanic students and professionals are critical to filling the projected demand in the U.S. for 11.8 million STEM professionals by 2030 to help drive the country’s economy forward.

    The “2024 SHPE-LDC U.S. Latinos in Engineering and Tech Report” documents significant progress in Latino representation in engineering education, with undergraduate engineering enrollment increasing by 39% from 2012 to 2022. Engineering degrees awarded to Hispanics rose by 57% during the same period.

    “With Hispanics comprising over 25% of America’s youth (under 18 years of age) and nearly 16% of undergraduate engineering students, the talent pipeline is critical to filling the projected need for 11.8 million STEM professionals by 2030,” SHPE CEO Suzanna Valdez Wolfe said. “Empowering Hispanics with resources and opportunities isn’t just an investment in our future – it’s essential to meeting America’s growing technological demands and contributing to a thriving U.S. economy.”

    “Latino involvement in engineering and technology is essential for sustaining global competitiveness and driving progress in the U.S. This report offers the most compelling evidence to date that by supporting young people to pursue STEM education, we can effectively eliminate concerns about a shortage of qualified talent,” Ana Valdez, CEO and President of LDC, said.

    Key findings include:

    • 22% of Hispanics aged 25-34 now hold bachelor’s degrees or higher, compared to 16% of those aged 50 and older

    • Master’s degrees in engineering awarded to Latinos increased by 37%, while doctoral engineering enrollment grew by 50% from 2012-2022

    • Latinos are projected to account for 78% of all net new workers by 2030

    • Hispanic participation in AI technical roles increased by 59% between 2018 and 2022

    • SHPE members have a graduation rate of 88%, significantly higher than the national engineering rate of approximately 50%

    Latino youth demonstrate strong adaptability and engagement with emerging technologies compared to other groups. Among young Hispanics, 54% use AI for information gathering, while 39% use it for creative applications such as image generation and 27% for music production. This active use of AI lays the foundation for Latinos to transition from users to developers of AI-driven solutions.

    Moreover, 64% of respondents are motivated by the opportunity to solve real-world problems, aligning with the values of community and service emphasized in Hispanic culture. For many, earning potential (52%) adds to the appeal, as does the promise of career opportunities (50%) in these fields.

    However, challenges remain: The report identifies areas requiring attention, including financial insecurity (affecting 66% of Latino students), housing instability, and the need to increase support and mentorship. The report concludes with recommendations, including expanded mentorship programs, increased STEM funding, and partnerships on internships, career fairs, and initiatives to promote careers in STEM.

    The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy, in partnership with the National Constitution Center and the Organization of American Historians, announced details for a forthcoming weeklong educator intensive. Open to social studies educators who currently work in sixth-12th grade classrooms, the Philadelphia-based workshop is geared toward those educators with an interest in learning more about the history of the U.S. Constitution.

    “It’s an honor to partner with the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute and the Organization of American Historians to provide this timely and unique opportunity to educators dedicated to bringing the Constitution to their classrooms,” said Julie Silverbrook, NCC vice president of Civic Education. “The need for high-quality and empowering professional learning that builds skills, confidence and strengthens practice in teaching about the U.S. Constitution is imperative.”

    The intensive, hosted at the National Constitution Center on historic Independence Mall in Philadelphia, will take place Sunday, June 22, to Friday, June 27. Programming highlights include a panel discussion with intensive faculty, including Blight, Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen, and Yale Law professor Akhil Amar; a deep-dive into the drafting of the Constitution and the amendments that shaped American history during the Civil War and Reconstruction; discussions with constitutional scholars, legal experts, and historians on the origins of key components of constitutional history and their modern interpretations and relevance today; and the opportunity to explore the Center’s exhibits as well as historic sites and cultural institutions around Historic Philadelphia.

    This in-person intensive is open to educators working with grades 6-12 at public, charter, independent, parochial, and other schools. Applications can be found HERE and are due no later than Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Notification regarding application status will be sent by the end of April.

    The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy will provide a stipend to cover the cost of travel and lodging for all participants, as well as breakfasts, lunches, and dinners on both the opening night and closing night. Ticket costs associated with visiting cultural institutions around Old City Philadelphia will also be covered. All other costs are the responsibility of the participant.

    Prior to the intensive, participants will be responsible for pre-reading assignments including book chapters, academic articles, and additional scholarly readings.   • Chef Ann Foundation Announces 2025 Healthy School Food Pathway Fellowship Cohort

    Nationwide cohort seeks to advance healthy, sustainable, and equitable school food reform.

    The Chef Ann Foundation announced today that it has selected 27 school food leaders to participate in the 2025 Healthy School Food Pathway Fellowship. The Fellowship empowers school food professionals to lead healthier and more environmentally sustainable school food programs rooted in scratch cooking and champion equitable school food reform.

    This year’s cohort includes school food professionals from 11 states, all operating under the National School Lunch Program. Representing diverse experiences and backgrounds, the Fellows share a passion for moving school food programs away from serving ultra-processed meals to serving more scratch-made meals. Over a 13-month period, Fellows cultivate their leadership skills; deepen their school food knowledge; and become experts on and advocates for healthy school food policy.

    “About halfway through, I realized that the experience and knowledge I gained from this Fellowship would have taken me 6-8 years to acquire working in school food,” says 2023 Fellowship graduate Nick Dramis, supervisor of culinary operations at Marysville Joint Unified School District in California.

    Fellows will complete a capstone project that addresses challenges in their own districts. Past capstone projects have increased local food procurement, introduced culturally relevant menu items, and enhanced employee training opportunities.

    “Our goal is for Fellows to develop the operational knowledge and confidence needed to implement transformative changes in their districts,” says Chef Ann Foundation’s Chief Program Officer Laura Smith. “By understanding how school food integrates into the larger food system, Fellows can drive change that has a ripple effect far beyond their local communities.”

  • Homeschooling: The Lifeline We Didn’t Know We Needed – ED.gov Blog

    I remember how shocked I was when my three-year-old began reading. I quickly realized the educational pathway we planned would not meet her needs. I saw in her eyes that she had unlocked the magic of reading, and I knew the prescribed educational path would stifle her, leaving her mind yearning for more.  

    We set out on an empowering journey that led us to homeschooling – the lifeline we didn’t know we needed. It gave us the space and flexibility to craft an education as unique as our children, nurturing their hearts and minds, and giving them the chance to grow into their best selves.   

    When we first started, I was terrified. I thought finding the right resources would be difficult but was surprised to discover vast and diverse options. Suddenly, the world of homeschooling felt wide open. We started as a “private school” at home, later enrolling in an Independent Study Charter upon moving to California. It was a lifeline, giving us access to credentialed teachers and wonderful resources – all within the public education umbrella.  

    Today, homeschooling isn’t just something we do – it’s a lifestyle journey designed for us. Our kids’ education reflects who they are as students and people. It’s not just about traditional subjects, but mindfulness, emotional health, building relationships, and making meaningful connections. Family time, friendships, outdoor adventures, art appreciation, and scientific discoveries abound while fostering identity and community. It’s about nurturing a lifelong love of learning folded into the shifting needs and schedules of our family.   

    I once believed in stereotypical misconceptions about homeschooling: Children lacking socialization, overly sheltered, and stuck completing worksheets. The truth is, homeschooling allows my children to learn, grow and blossom at a pace tailored to their rhythm for each individual area of study. For the kids who are neurodivergent, creative, or otherwise don’t fit the “traditional” mold, homeschooling allows them to shine. We’ve witnessed our kids thrive in things like STEM, art, robotics, fencing, martial arts, dance, and traveling to new places where they can immerse themselves in different cultures and histories in ways textbooks alone could never teach.  

    Our homeschool community also provides more meaningful socialization opportunities than I ever imagined. Our children form deep friendships, collaborate on projects, and understand what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves. Through co-ops, enrichment, and forest schools, they experience true community, empathy, inclusivity, and kindness in dynamic and engaging approaches.  

    Without a doubt, homeschooling is the right choice for us, helping our children grow into the best versions of themselves. It’s not easy, but it’s shown me something beautiful: when children are given the freedom to learn in ways that suit them best, they flourish. They grow at their own pace, surrounded by love, understanding, and a community that believes in them. The result is remarkable—well-rounded, compassionate, knowledgeable, and capable children ready to contribute positively to the world.  

    Home education isn’t just about learning—it’s about thriving. And I wouldn’t change a thing.

    In addition to leading the discussion on CAR-T therapy, Kelly participated in a roundtable titled “Migrating GMP Manufacturing Facilities from Clinical to Commercial Compliance.” Alongside representatives from cGMPNow, CDMOs, and industry drug developers, the group addressed key differences between clinical and commercial compliance. The discussion highlighted the importance of facility design, robust contamination control strategies, and fostering a culture of problem-solving and accountability. Attendees gained valuable insights into navigating inspections and the significance of service providers committing to external reviews for continuous improvement.

    AmplifyBio also hosted a dinner roundtable event to explore the “Hoteling” Model for Advanced Therapy Manufacturing. The session brought together drug developers to examine the benefits and challenges of hoteling and hybrid staffing models in CGT manufacturing, where clients can be on-site to collaborate directly with CDMO experts. AmplifyBio employees shared lessons learned from working in the CDMO industry on some of the first cell and gene therapy products to reach the clinic, underscoring the flexibility and communication improvements that could come from client and provider staff being more cohesive. There was broad consensus that while outsourcing is convenient and cost-effective, there are times when hoteling and hybrid staff strategies drive efficiency and scalability in advanced therapy manufacturing.

  • American College of Education Pledges to Make 2025 Another Year of ‘Higher Education Done Differently’

    American College of Education is celebrating its attainment of new milestones in enrollment, accreditation, partnerships and value in 2024, achievements that position ACE for its 20th year of “Higher Education Done Differently.”

    ACE, founded in 2005, is a national innovator in providing quality, affordable and accredited online graduate degrees, undergraduate degrees, doctorates and certificates in education, leadership, healthcare and business.

    ACE has adopted “Higher Education Done Differently” as its slogan for the 20th anniversary year. Geordie Hyland, ACE’s president and CEO, said the college has earned that description.

    “ACE is different from the vast majority of American colleges because of our absolute dedication to the value proposition for our students,” Hyland said. “We have proved that colleges can provide students with an education that allows them to advance their careers while maintaining their jobs and family life, often without amassing any debt.”

    ACE’s message has caught on with students. In 2024, ACE crossed new growth thresholds, with more than 12,000 current students – compared to its initial class of just 24 Chicago schoolteachers at its 2005 founding. Over the last two decades, ACE has produced more than 44,000 graduates.
