Yesterday, after 1,410 days (or 3 years and 10 months) the Grim Medicine cosmetic set—complete with the popular Plague Doctor skin—returned to Fortnite’sin-game store, letting players buy it for the first time since the start of the covid-19 pandemic. And many believe it was the pandemic itself that kept the plague-themed items and skins out of the game for such a long period of time.
I doubt I need to explain Fortniteto you, but just so everyone’s on the same page: Epic’s Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale PVP shooter available on nearly every modern platform out there. It supports crossplay across all of them and for the last few years has been one of the most popular games in the world as it continues to expand and include more characters from other franchises, like Star Wars,Dragonball Z,and Street Fighter.
But Fortnite also has plenty of its own original skins and cosmetic items too, like Peely and the previously mentioned Plague Doctor. But until yesterday, these plague-related items hadn’t appeared in the game since March 1, 2019, making them extremely rare, as the only people who could use them were folks who bought them back when they were last available. Meanwhile, most other skins appear again and again in the store every few weeks or months.
Fans had theorized that the Grim Medicine cosmetic set had been blacklisted and retired by Epic due to the covid-19 pandemic. This makes sense, as including those skins during the height of the deadly pandemic that has killed over 6 million people worldwide as of January 2023 would have been a bad look.

The working theory is that the skin popped up in the store on March 1, 2019. Then before it could appear again in the store, covid-19 was detected in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and eventually spread around the world, officially becoming a pandemic according to the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. It’s not unreasonable that Epic saw this happening and decided to pull the plague-themed items from the store’s rotation in order to avoid any controversy.
The thing is, Epic has never officially confirmed this theory at any point. Kotaku has reached out about the skin and the long gap in time between it showing up, but didn’t hear back from the company. Still, even if Epic hasn’t officially confirmed the reason for the Grim Medicine items going missing for nearly four years, the covid-19 theory doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. And regardless of why, many players were excited to see it return, even if only to make a joke about its long absence. Or to point out that covid-19 is still a thing in 2023, which it is, and it’s still deadly and dangerous, too.
“One of my friends IMMEDIATELY dropped money into the game upon getting this notification. He’s been waiting since it was last in the shop,” tweeted one person. “LETS GOOOO! I finally got PLAGUE!!! I wanted him for 2 years,” tweeted another player upon seeing the news of the Plague Doctor’s return to Fortnite. Of course, there were other players who found it funny everybody was excited over the skin, and others who owned it already and were now sad to see their once rare skin become common once more.
Personally, I’m not excited about the Grim Medicine skins as I don’t really like how they look. And besides, I only like to buy the most cursed and bizarre skins in Fortnite, like Mr. Meeseeks from Rick and Morty.
If you watched even a minute of Neuro-sama streaming on Twitch you knew it was only a matter of time before the AI-controlled Vtuber got banned. The channel is currently offline for two weeks due to “hateful conduct,” though it’s not immediately clear what the offending incident was.
“Okay so banned for 2 weeks obviously, not sure why something about hateful conduct,” Neuro-sama’s creator, a user who goes by Vedal, wrote in the Vtuber’s Discord earlier today. “Will try to appeal and find out more the good news for you guys is this gives me so much time to work on improvements and upgrades so hopefully by the time she’s unbanned she will be better than ever.”
Hundreds of fans responded beneath the message with crying emoji. On Twitter, the account Out of context Neuro called on Twitch to “free my girl.”
Neuro-sama started making waves in the video game streaming space back in December when she bantered with viewers in the Twitch chat while playing the rhythm game Osu! Unlike other Vtubers which are only people posing as anime avatars, Neuro-sama was the real deal, trouncing opponents in online matches while commenting on everything from Pewdiepie to League of Legends. More recently she’s been playing Minecraft and taking singing lessons.

The potential pitfalls of an AI built on globs of internet text and viewer prompts immediately became apparent, however. Early on one user asked Neuro-sama about the Holocaust. “I’m not sure if I believe it,” she responded.
Vedal told Kotaku last week he had immediately worked to improve the Twitch channel’s chat filters and Neuro-sama’s responses after that in order to avoid similar mishaps in the future. It’s a fine line between keeping her interesting and making her un-cancelable though. A big reason some viewers tune into her streams is clearly to watch her go off script, including rants about how she smells bad or her favorite kind of weed. No doubt getting banned will only increase her street cred and hype by the time she returns.
Twitch and Vedal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider you might just be the bad guy. You have Metroid-inspired traversal abilities, a Mega Man X sword, and a platter of six levels and bosses to pursue in any order you choose. But are you doing the right thing? The important thing is it feels good to play and is incredibly reminiscent of the 16-bit era of video games in the best way.

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for January 11th, 2023. It’s a slow day for new releases, with just a single one on the board to look at. We’ve got the usual lists of new and expiring sales to look at, of course. But before we go into those things, we’ve got a couple of news items to check out. It’s another chill one today, but tomorrow will pick up the business. Let’s see what we’ve got!

Check Out the Lateset Trailer for ‘Tales of Symhonia Remastered’, Coming Feb 17th
For various reasons, Nintendo fans have always seemed to have a greater affinity for Tales of Symphonia than most other Tales games. Perhaps that’s why Bandai Namco has decided to bring Tales of Symphonia Remastered to the Switch. It’s arriving quite soon, February 17th to be exact, and in light of that there is a brand new trailer for you to enjoy. It’s up there. Above this paragraph. Can’t miss it, really.
‘Bayonetta 3’ Update Includes Balance Adjustments and More
The latest game in the Bayonetta series got an update today bringing the game to version 1.2.0. It seems like it’s mainly focused on tweaking the balance of the game in various ways. Some of Viola’s moves have been buffed, a couple of accessories have been tweaked, several of the Niflheim Stages have been made a bit easier, and unsealing the Old Picture Book is significantly simpler. The latter is significant because it is the means for playing the teaser for the upcoming Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. The update is live now, so just go ahead and hit the update option if it hasn’t already done it on its own.
New Releases
Children of Silentown ($19.99)
This is a new point-and-click style adventure game from the developer behind Little Briar Rose, a game that certainly had no shortage of praise thrown in its direction. It follows a girl named Lucy who fears the forest around her village. Villagers disappear now and then, and Lucy finally decides she will be the one to investigate the problem. Sooner or later, she’s going to have to confront her fears. It looks pretty good, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
Continuing the recent trend, there isn’t a lot to look at in today’s list of new sales. The good news is that it is short enough that you don’t really need me to walk you through it. The outbox is larger, but most of what’s in it will be back around before long. So do check it, but don’t feel overly pressured to buy anything right now.

That’s all for today, friends. I’ll be back tomorrow with the big Thursday new release drop, with around a dozen or more games set to hit the virtual shelves. I’ll also have whatever sales roll in during the next day, plus whatever big news hits. I hope you all have a great Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
If you have been unable to acquire enough candy to evolve your Noibat in Pokemon Go, you will soon be able to earn enough (hopefully) to change it into Noivern.
This is because the little purple bat will feature during February’s Community Day. Huzzah!
Pokemon Go Season 9: Mythical Wishes has kicked off!
The bat is one of the harder Pokemons to evolve because it takes a whopping 400 candy to change into Noivern plus, it doesn’t have a very high spawn rate.
That will all change on Sunday, February 5.
From 2-5pm local time, the Sound Wave Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild. And, if you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one, so toss a ball at every single one that you see.
If you evolve Noibat into Noivern during the event or up to five hours afterward, the evolved version will know the Charged Attack Boomburst.
To get the Special Research Story included during the day, you will need to fork over $1 or your regional equivalent to participate in the quest Abundant Noise.
Event Bonuses on this day will include 3x Stardust for catching Pokemon, 2x Candy catch bonus, 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catches, and Lure Modules and Incense activated during the event will last for three hours. And be sure to take a few snapshots for a surprise.
If you have been itching to trade something other than a typical Pokemon, you can make one additional Special Trade during the day for a maximum of two, and it will cost 50% less Stardust for up to five hours after Community Day ends.
After the three-hour event ends, you can take on four-star Raid Battles. Winning will result in more Noibat appearing around the Gym that hosted the raid for 30 minutes. Noibat will also appear in four-star Raids, and you can only join these by using Raid Passes, and Premium Battle Passes – not Remote passes.
Finally, we’ll get a new batch of stickers themed around the event.
Hopefully, you are excited about next month’s Community Day. I know I am! I only have 287 Noibat candy, so I still have a ways to go. Plus, if you make him your buddy, you will need to walk him 5 kilometers before getting even one candy from the critter. With Community Day, surely we’ll get enough catch candy (especially by dropping a Pinap or Silver Pinap Berry) to evolve it more than once.
“INHUMAN” is an independent horror game, which mainly focuses on the narrative of the story and the experience of psychological horror, and strives to create fear and shock in the soul. The game integrates the gameplay of classic horror games, and gives unique innovative elements. It is ingenious in the way of decryption. Combined with the extreme oppression of the chasing battle, your spirit will reach the peak. The heroine was accidentally kidnapped, but when she woke up, she found that she was actually in the family’s ancient house.
What is even more frightening is that the ancient house was burned down by a fire as early as 20 years ago.So the heroine began to explore the secrets buried in this ancient house, and how her family died in the battle for power that year. However, as the heroine went deeper and deeper, she found that it was not at all… I kept walking in the room, trying to wake up the memory of the past, I began to fantasize, everything here is so real, God! I can’t tell each other apart anymore, come and help me!
INHUMAN Pre-Installed:
Psychedelic horror- Huge scene, every time you turn your eyes, your original scene is changing. You have to play billiards some 3 different times to progress the game but it’s not normal billiards. One time you just have to side swipe all the balls into the various pockets. More than three years after the release of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries (opens in new tab), Piranha Games president Russ Bullock has revealed in an interview with the NoGutsNoGalaxy (opens in new tab) podcast that an all-new singleplayer Mechwarrior game is currently in development.
“We’re still working on MechWarrior, which has been somewhat surprising to me, that we’ve been able to work on it this long, which is great,” Bullock said. “And everyone knows we have of course DLC 4 coming out for MechWarrior 5.
“And there is another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha. I’ll just say that it’s not MechWarrior Online 2, it’s not the successor to MechWarrior (opens in new tab)Online [which entered open beta in 2012 before releasing in 2013], it’s not online PvP—think of it more inline with MechWarrior 5, but a standalone game, a standalone product.”
Bullock said the new game will be released for PC and consoles, and will follow “more of a singleplayer co-op type of pathway.” There’s no indication as to what era the game will be set in, though, or what faction it will focus on, and Bullock warned that the official reveal may not happen until the fall of this year. That leaves us plenty of time for speculation, and off the top of my head (given certain events in MechWarrior 5, which I will not spoil) I feel like something involving the Clan invas (opens in new tab)ion of 3049 (opens in new tab) might not be a bad guess.
Bullock also said in the NGNG interview that he’s interested in doing a followup to MechWarrior Online as well, but noted that it faces additional challenges, including the need for a license extension: Piranha currently has the rights to the MechWarrior license until 2025, but needs “more runway than that” for a full MWO2.
“You’re not going to make a MechWarrior Online 2 if your license is maybe over in 2025,” Bullock said. “We’d have to know that we have a minimum of five years once the game is done, so we probably need an extension to 2030.”
In an email sent to PC Gamer, Bullock confirmed that the new singleplayer MechWarrior game is targeted for release in 2024. The fourth DLC for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, called Rise of Rasalhague (opens in new tab), is slated to come out on January 26.
The first part of the remade Final Fantasy VII wowed us back in 2020, making the wait for part two all the more excruciating. While Final Fantasy XVI is set to arrive in the first half of 2023, barring any delays, we should be able to round out the year with the second part of the three-part Final Fantasy VII remake project. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth carries on the story of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and the rest of the iconic cast. With Square Enix making changes to the established lore through this remake series, fans don’t quite know what to expect narratively, but if the gameplay and quality are similar to Final Fantasy VII Remake, count us in.
Microsoft has announced an Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct, a new games showcase “providing fans an inside look at some of the games coming to Xbox, PC, and Game Pass over the next few months.”
It will air on January 25 and feature Xbox studios like Arkane Austin, Mojang Studios, Turn 10 Studios, and ZeniMax Online Studios. This Developer Direct will “focus on big features, extended gameplay showcases, and the latest info for Xbox games launching in the next few months,” including The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends, and Redfall.
You might notice a big galaxy-sized absence in this lineup: Starfield. Fret not, Xbox says a standalone Starfield show is in the works “to dedicate the proper amount of time for a deep dive” into the game.
As for what to expect for each game, Xbox has detailed that too. For The Elder Scrolls Online, ZeniMax Online Studios will unveil 2023’s major chapter update, “including the latest regions of Tamriel to become playable in ESO, as well as a major new feature coming in the game’s biggest update this year.” A full “ESO Chapter Reveal Event” will follow this Developer Direct. On the Forza Motorsport side of things, Turn 10 Studios will be sharing more gameplay and new details about the game.
Mojang Studios will showcase a new look into Minecraft Legends’ upcoming PvP multiplayer experience and Arkane Austin will “showcase several minutes of gameplay” from Redfall, including both single player and multiplayer gameplay. Fans can expect to learn more about combat, customization, bosses, the open world, and more, according to Xbox.
The Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct airs on Wednesday, January 25, at 12 p.m. PT/ 3 p.m. ET.

The company cites “major challenges as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and long-lasting titles that can reach players across the globe, across platforms and business models.” It says that over the last four years, its strategy has been about building “long-lasting live games and adapting our strongest franchises” like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy games like Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and The Division “to converging trends to make them truly global brands.”
“However, the games from this investment phase have yet to be released, while our recent launches have not performed as well as expected,” the press release reads. “Compounding this effect, in the context of worsening macroeconomic conditions, the trends over the Holiday season, in particular the last weeks of December and beginning of January, have been markedly and suprisingly slower than expected.
“This overall context has triggered a full review of our revenue prospects leading to increased cautiosness over the coming years. Considering this, combined with the significant additional investments that resulted from lockdown and new working patterns that have a profound impact on productions across the industry over the past 3 years, Ubisoft is announcing today a set of measures dedicated to strengthening its long-term growth and value-creation prospects.”
Ubisoft then reveals that Skull and Bones has been delayed a fifth time. It will now be released early 2023-24. However, players will be able to play it soon, it sounds like, in the game’s upcoming beta phase. As for why Skull and Bones has been delayed again, Ubisoft says the game needs more polish.
“The additional time has already paid off and brought impressive improvements to its quality, which has been confirmed by recent playtests,” the press release reads. “We believe players will be positively surprised by its evolution. We have decided to postpone its release in order to have more time to showcase a much more polished and balanced experience and to build awareness.”
Elsewhere in the financial update, Ubisoft notes that it has decreased its Q3 2022-23 net bookings target from roughly $892 million to about $779 million. The company again cites “the more challenging environment,” noting that big 2022 releases like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023 performed lower than expected.
Do you think Skull and Bones will actually ever come out? Let us know in the comments below!
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge(Free) from Tribute Games and Dotemu is a very special game. Not only is it a fantastic beat ’em up, but it delivered on bringing the experience I had as a kid playing the Konami classics to current platforms with a modern experience. Unlike most of Playdigious’ prior conversions for mobile, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is available through Netflix for subscribers, and it is one of the best Netflix Games additions just like Into the Breach.
If you aren’t familiar with TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, it is to the Konami classic TMNT beat ’em ups what Streets of Rage 4 is to that series. While I adore both TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and Streets of Rage 4, the former is more special because I have a ton of nostalgia for these games from when I played some of them years ago. The current mobile version is one update behind the console and PC version, which means the custom mode and new filters aren’t available yet. Hopefully they are added soon.
Before getting into the mobile port features, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is special because of how unique the cast of playable characters is, how detailed and well-designed the levels are, and also for the superlative soundtrack from Tee Lopes. All of this comes together with gorgeous visuals that perfectly deliver on a modern take for a classic TMNT experience. In addition to the fleshed-out story mode with multiple bosses, this mobile version has access to the arcade mode which has you playing with limited lives and no saves.
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge on iOS has full touch and controller support. The touch controls are very good as well. On the controller side, I tested both the Razer Kishi V2 and the Backbone One PlayStation Edition. Both displayed Xbox prompts but worked without issues. If you aren’t a fan of touch controls, you can use a controller without issues.
Visually, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge looks perfect on the iPhone 11 and iPad Pro (2020) I used to try out the preview build and publicly available release on. It has artwork banners/bars around the gameplay and menus since it was originally designed for 16:9 displays only. It also runs very well. I didn’t have any major performance issues, but I haven’t been able to stress test the online in every level yet. The party menu confirms support for 6 online players right now which is good to see.
I had access to the game through a preview build pre-release, and I’ve tested the online in the publicly available version to confirm that it works great. While I wasn’t able to test the multiplayer much pre-release, the online play has worked brilliantly so far. I even tested it with two devices on cellular rather than wifi where it worked without any issues. The online play lets you create a party and share a code, find players online, or join using a party code.
As with my other reviews of mobile ports, I wanted to compare TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge on all portable platforms. Having now played it on iPad, iPhone, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Steam Deck, I like the iPhone and Switch (non Lite) versions the most. The Steam Deck doesn’t really offer any benefit for TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge like it does with Dead Cells, and the Nintendo Switch OLED model screen alongside modern iOS displays are a lot nicer especially with how colorful TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is. The game controls very well across the board and you will likely have no trouble with it on your platform of choice. There will be some slowdown in certain parts on Switch and older mobile devices though while Steam Deck runs it without any issues.
Despite being one update behind the PC and console versions right now, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is absolutely essential. Playdigious did a fantastic job with this outstanding beat ’em up, and you owe it to yourself to play it if you have a Netflix subscription.
There are few games I think about as often as Katana Zero. You know when something wriggles its way into your brain and sort of just stays there? Considering it’s been three years since Katana Zero launched, I guess it’s gotten to the point where its toothbrush is next to mine. It’s not even for the reasons you might expect, either. Yes, its side-scrolling action is so buttery smooth it should come with a cholesterol warning. Its soundtrack is sublime. It looks gorgeous. But for me, the chewiest bit is the story.
Xbox is working to reduce our environmental impact to help us reach Microsoft’s goal of being a carbon negative, water positive, and zero waste company by 2030 by rethinking how we design, build, distribute, and use our products.
Last March, we shared an update on our sustainability efforts across hardware, software, waste reduction, and collective action. We are constantly looking at the ways in which we can innovate, learn, and improve upon our measures, as well as continue collaborating with industry partners and game developers. We not only hold ourselves accountable to the carbon emissions in the production and distribution of our products, but to the emissions created with the use of our products in the homes of our fans as well. So, the way we design our hardware and software to be more efficient and optimized for renewable energy can have a big impact.
Today we are sharing updates that are rolling out to Xbox Insiders. The upcoming changes will create opportunities for our collective community of gamers to make choices to reduce environmental impact while gaming.
Xbox is now the first gaming console to offer carbon aware game downloads and updates
Being carbon aware means reducing carbon footprint by optimizing updates and downloads to run at a time when the console can use the most renewable energy. Windows Update became carbon aware last year for Windows 11 PCs, and now Xbox consoles are also becoming carbon aware.
When your console is plugged in, connected to the Internet and regional carbon intensity data is available, Xbox will schedule game, app, and OS updates for your console at specific times during the nightly maintenance window that may result in lower carbon emissions because a higher proportion of electricity is coming from lower-carbon sources on the electric grid. For example, instead of your Xbox waking up during the nightly maintenance window at a random time between 2:00 AM – 6:00 AM, your console will wake up at a time when it can use the most renewable energy in your local energy grid. This decreases fossil fuel dependency and CO2 emissions, and could potentially save you money. While only available to Xbox Insiders that use Shutdown (energy saving) right now, all Xbox gamers will have the chance to update soon so that your Xbox console is carbon aware.
Energy settings that help your Xbox save energy
Starting today, Xbox Insiders will notice that their Xbox Series X|S consoles automatically update to the Shutdown (energy saving) power option. This one-time update to your power settings will reduce your power consumption while your console is off, and will not affect performance, gameplay, or your console’s ability to receive overnight updates to system, games or apps. Remote features are supported while the console is powered-on; however, remote wake is not supported while the console is shut down. You can adjust your settings at any time, choosing what works best for you. Shutdown (energy saving) cuts power use by up to 20X when it’s off compared to Sleep.
Shutdown (energy saving) will allow Xbox One consoles to receive system, game or app downloads overnight, just like Xbox Series X|S. With Shutdown (energy saving) selected, Xbox One consoles will experience a slower boot time. Remote features are still supported while the console is powered on.
Improved sustainability with “Active hours” and Sleep
Another energy setting update that will start to roll out to Xbox Insiders today is the new “Active hours” setting. For those that select the Sleep power option, you can now adjust your console’s active hours. Your Xbox will boot quickly and will be available for remote wake during your selected active hours. When your Xbox’s active hours are done for the day, it will fully shut down and will draw 0.5 W vs. 10-15 W while active.
Xbox Series X|S active hours will be automatically enabled and scheduled based on times when the console was previously used
Xbox One consoles will have the option to configure their active hours, which will default to “always active” unless changed
How you can help
We can’t do this alone. We must work together with our players, developers, studios, and the industry if we’re going to help reduce gaming’s impact on the environment. We’re committed to collaborating with our developers, partnering with organizations, and empowering players to make more informed decisions.
Here are some specific ways you can help:
Choose the settings that help you and your Xbox save energy Choose shutdown (energy saving) as a power option on your Xbox. If you are not part of Xbox Insiders and want to adjust your settings to get the best energy saving option prior to the automatic update go to Settings > General > Power options. It will help conserve power and enable carbon aware updates on your Xbox.
Get carbon aware – Choose automatic updates. When you have configured your Xbox to get automatic updates and you have selected shutdown (energy saving) as a power option, you’ll have a carbon aware Xbox.
Shutdown sooner when inactive – Choose a shorter duration for when your Xbox will turn off when inactive. This will help to reduce the amount of time that your console will remain on when inactive before turning itself off. By default, this is set to 1 hour, but you can choose a time that is less than an hour by going to Settings > General > Power options > Customize power options.
It’s Zeldathon all year here on Polygon — starting today with an unmissable oral history of smooching in the The Legend of Zelda cartoon — and with impeccable timing, a virtual reality remake of the original 1986 Legend of Zelda game has surfaced online. It looks fantastic, if not a little scary.
Posted to Twitter and YouTube by Japanese retro gaming and VR enthusiast Sugary Noe (as spotted by Nintendo Life), this VR Zelda appears to be a mod of a mod. It’s actually the Legend of Doom mod, which faithfully recreates the first Zelda game in first-person within the Doom engine, using all the original maps, assets, and enemy placements. This mod has then been applied to QuestZDoom, which makes Doom playable on Meta Quest VR hardware.
Even witnessed through Sugary Noe’s YouTube playthrough, the added immersion of VR head-tracking makes this 37-year-old game surprisingly tense and threatening. Angry-looking Octoroks lurch from behind bushes, and the first dungeon takes on a claustrophobic, maze-like quality. It’s like stepping inside your memory of playing the game for the first time, and a fitting reawakening for a game that remains unforgiving and mysterious to this day. (I should know — I’m playing it at the moment, for reasons you might be able to guess…)
Today we’re happy to reveal the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for January 2023. All games will be available on Tuesday January 17. Let’s dive in.

EA Sports is planning to remove the CPR touchdown celebration from Madden NFL 23 after Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the pitch on January 3.
As reported by CBS, EA is working on an update that will remove the CPR celebration in the coming days.
Though the animation has been in the game for three years, many players called for its removal after Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and received CPR for around 10 minutes on the pitch.
“EA Sports is taking steps to remove the celebration from Madden NFL 23 via an update in the coming days,” a spokesperson said.
The animation in game can be triggered after scoring a touchdown, and sees one player lie down on the ground as another pretends to perform CPR on them. A third player imitates the use of a defibrillator.
Hamlin is expected to be released from hospital in the next 48 hours after improving considerably. His heart had to be restarted twice after collapsing during the game and he was left in a critical condition.

It should surprise no one that Fortnite Champion Series is back for 2023, and its newly revealed roadmap sets the course for what competitive Fortnite will look like for the entire calendar year. The Champion Series will run from February to at least August, with the global championship coming late in the year.
The total prize package for the series is $10 million, and it will kick off on Thursday, February 2. It will follow a duos format, with four major events determining placement in the final championship. Perhaps the biggest news here is that the global championship will be decided in-person, following in the footsteps of last year’s event. It will be held in Copenhagen in “late 2023,” with no firm date yet set.

The format of the tournament will follow the usual Fortnite competitive structure, with players earning a spot in the majors by qualifying for the “Elite Division,” the highest level of divisional competition in the game. A number of slots are allocated to each geographic area of the globe, from the EU to Brazil.
Players will then earn points according to their placement in the five weeks of competition in each of the three majors. The last major, the “Last Chance Major,” will last only three days, as will the global championship. The ultimate finals will be decided in a six-match format, with the winners earning $4 million. The winners of the first three majors will earn $2 million.
As in previous years, players who watch the Champion Series will have the chance to earn cosmetic drops. This includes on Twitch, the official Fortnite YouTube channel, and even in-game at the Legends Landing by inputting a certain island code.
