About Chicago Remastered:
Man, i’m sorry. I feel bad not recommending this game because I think it’s clear that the subject matter in this game is something very important to the creators. It feels passionate, and I like what the narrative is trying to do, especially in an area that’s been glorified in video games with the likes of GTA, Saints Row, etc.
But I just don’t think I can get past the technical side of this. It’s just a pain. The game suffers from severe lack of polish. It’s pretty unpleasant to look at. The voice acting feels detatched and soulless. In the time I played, the dialogue felt like it was on a broken record. Conversations felt forced and not natural. And I don’t know if anyone else experienced this, but my game had TERRIBLE FPS. My PC runs most games very well even on max settings, but it does tend to overheat at times, so maybe this is only on my end, but it was SUCH a slog to get through with the FPS.

Nope, not there—not there either. Today’s yellows didn’t seem to fit in anywhere at all. After a few attempts those misses started to make themselves useful, as eventually there was nowhere left for the letters to go other than in the sole slot they hadn’t been in before.

Wordle help: 3 tips for beating Wordle every day
If there’s one thing better than playing Wordle, it’s playing Wordle well, which is why I’m going to share a few quick tips to help set you on the path to success:
A good opener contains a balanced mix of unique vowels and consonants.
A tactical second guess helps to narrow down the pool of letters quickly.
The solution may contain repeat letters.
There’s no time pressure beyond making sure it’s done by midnight. So there’s no reason to not treat the game like a casual newspaper crossword and come back to it later if you’re coming up blank.

Learn more about Wordle
Every day Wordle presents you with six rows of five boxes, and it’s up to you to work out which secret five-letter word is hiding inside them.
You’ll want to start with a strong word (opens in new tab) like ALERT—something containing multiple vowels, common consonants, and no repeat letters. Hit Enter and the boxes will show you which letters you’ve got right or wrong. If a box turns ⬛️, it means that letter isn’t in the secret word at all. 🟨 means the letter is in the word, but not in that position. 🟩 means you’ve got the right letter in the right spot.
You’ll want your second go to compliment the first, using another “good” word to cover any common letters you missed last time while also trying to avoid any letter you now know for a fact isn’t present in today’s answer.
After that it’s just a case of using what you’ve learned to narrow your guesses down to the right word. You have six tries in total and can only use real words (so no filling the boxes with EEEEE to see if there’s an E). Don’t forget letters can repeat too (ex: BOOKS).

Originally, Wordle was dreamed up by software engineer Josh Wardle (opens in new tab), as a surprise for his partner who loves word games. From there it spread to his family, and finally got released to the public. The word puzzle game has since inspired tons of games like Wordle (opens in new tab), refocusing the daily gimmick around music or math or geography. It wasn’t long before Wordle became so popular it was sold to the New York Times for seven figures (opens in new tab). Surely it’s only a matter of time before we all solely communicate in tricolor boxes.
The New York Game Awards 2023 have arrived and, alongside honoring CEO of Microsoft Gaming and head of Xbox Phil Spencer with the Andrew Yoon Legend Award, the show saw Elden Ring walk away victorious with the Game of the Year and the Best World awards.
The New York Video Game Critics Circle hosted the 12th annual New York Game Awards tonight, January 17, and it honored the best games, actors, esports athletes, and journalists of 2022.
Elden Ring was the only game to win multiple categories, meaning a ton of games were given the spotlight they deserve, including Vampire Survivors, God of War Ragnarok, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Immortality, and more.
As we previously mentioned, Phil Spencer won the Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the show, and it is “presented by the New York Videogame Critics Circle to recognize people and organizations that have exhibited a significant, sustained body of work that shows exceptional artistic achievement and innovation.”
“Phil and I have been a part of this industry together for many years and I’ve always admired his ability to find new, creative ways to serve gamers,” said Reggie Fils-Aimé, former industry and COO and board member, NYVGCC. “Phil isn’t just an executive in games, he is a gamer himself and because of that he knows exactly what fans want when it comes to the Xbox brand. I am thrilled to have him join the prestigious ranks of Andrew Yoon Legend Award winners and look forward to celebrating his illustrious career at the New York Game Awards this January.”

Home » News » It’s Official; Someone Has Sunk Over 20,000 Hours into Civilization V
There are games that you love, then there are games that you love. For Steam user Simon, that game is Sid Meier’s Civilization V.
Over on the game’s Steam page, under the reviews section, Simon revealed that he had clocked in 21,167 hours in Civ V, with the following review: “I suppose it was OK for the first 20,000 hours…”
For context, 20,000 hours comes up to around 833 days, which is almost three years. No matter how compelling or replayable a game is, that’s still a pretty damn impressive number. Civilization has always been known as the series that could hook players into thinking “just one more turn” and it’s clear that’s what happened with Simon.
Since the release of Civ V, Firaxis has also released Civilization VI, which was still a solid game, but it certainly wouldn’t be controversial to say that its predecessor had more solid foundations.
As Google prepares to kill off its Stadia streaming service for good, there have been a few parting gifts to emerge from its demise. Users got a final game, along with the ability to unlock the Bluetooth capabilities of their controllers (even if that was something they should have been able to do from day one), but one of the last surprises can be enjoyed by all of us. Especially those of us who never paid for Stadia in the first place.
Back in 2020 Necrosoft (finally) released Gunsport, a sci-fi take on 2D volleyball, as a Stadia exclusive. It was pretty cool! It was also, as a Stadia exclusive, a game that most of us never got to enjoy. In June 2022 it was followed by a sequel, Hyper Gunsport, which was much more widely available, since it came out on PC, Switch, Xbox and PlayStation.
Gunsport Stadia Teaser
While two completely separate games, they’ve now been brought a lot closer, with Necrosoft saying in a tweet earlier today “Since we care about game preservation we’ve made an offline version of Gunsport available in the Steam version of Hyper Gunsport, through the beta channel.”
You can see a video of this game-smuggling move (done by Necrosoft’s Lotte May) in action below:

If you’ve never had to use a Steam game’s beta channel system before, the video above will give you a quick rundown on how to activate the original game, then be able to easily switch between playing it and the sequel.
This is a very cool move! Not just because people are getting essentially a free video game, but because this is a super interesting way to implement a form of game preservation, one that thinks way outside the box but which, thanks to the way Steam is structured, also seems to work pretty damn well!

The WD SN850x is one of the very fastest NVMe SSDs in the world, with its PCIe 4.0 connection, super-fast TLC NAND flash memory and high-speed controller offering some frankly astonishing speeds – up to 7300MB/s reads and 6300MB/s writes, not to mention random read and write speeds of 800K IOPS and 1.1M IOPS respectively. This puts it within the top echelon of SSDs – perhaps why we named it the best PCIe 4.0 SSD for gaming!
Square Enix’s Forspoken is asking for a LOT of RAMImage: Square Enix
Over the past few years, the minimum amount of RAM you’d need to play the latest games on PC has been somewhere around the 8-16GB ballpark. Unless, that is, you’re talking about some very weird outliers, both of which are also games from, or appearing on, the PlayStation 5.
Last month we learned that Returnal, a game released in April 2021 on the PS5, would be coming out on the PC in 2023 with recommended specs “asking for an eye-watering 32 gigabytes of ram”. 32GB! What the fuck! While that was just the recommended amount—the minimum is a still-hefty 16GB—it certainly stood out not just for the sheer amount needed, but the fact that it didn’t really seem like the kind of game that, let’s be real, would need that much compared to its peers. But having come from the PS5, most people simply wrote it off as a consequence of the game’s development having been a weird, console-first quirk and got on with their lives.
Image: Square Enix
Now, though, the Square Enix-published Forspoken—a game also coming to the PlayStation 5 but with a PC version hitting alongside it at launch—is doing much the same thing. It has 16GB of RAM as a minimum (just to run at 720p! On a PC!), with 24GB recommended and 32GB required if you want to run the game at Ultra settings. Returnal being a port of a PS5 game was one thing, but Forspoken has been developed with a PC version launching alongside the console edition, so it doesn’t have that excuse.
This is too much RAM! I bought a brand new gaming PC in 2020 and it came with 16GB of RAM, which at the time was fine, maybe even slightly excessive, because games were only ever asking for 8GB (2022’s Modern Warfare II, just for comparison’s sake, asks for 16GB to run at Ultra 4K). To have leapt to the point where certain PlayStation-related games (and almost no others!) are asking for 16GB as a minimum is wild, and I’m sorry Returnal and Forspoken, but neither of you are going to make me go out and buy new hardware just to play.
Reserve the next gen Samsung device All you need to do is sign up with your email and boom: credit for your preorder on a new Samsung device.
Sony has done a pretty good job lately of bringing its games to PC, with everything from Horizon to God of War doing well enough to make ports a fundamental part of PlayStation’s release business going forwards (The Last Of Us, for example, is coming in March). Those have all been games released on the PS4, though, and so came with relatively reasonable specs; if this is the amount of RAM needed to bring PS5 games to the PC (and I’m not saying it definitively is, just that this is now a pattern), then Sony’s future ports might not enjoy such smooth sailing.
While we’re on the subject of Forspoken, a demo was recently released, and fan feedback has resulted in some changes being made to the game:
According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, the possible PS5 Slim “Doesn’t seem like there are any major hardware changes from the original console.” Tom went on to add that the disc drive might not work with current Digital Editions.
If this is true, that is a very odd decision for Sony to make. The internals are identical, so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t the current digital console just need a firmware update? I’m not interested in buying one, I love the digital life despite its shortcomings, but for those of you that are, maybe a third party will make them as well. Then current digital owners can be the proud owners of a Mad Catz PS5 disc drive.
This new PS5 with a detachable disc drive was first reported in September. The system will supposedly arrive in September 2023 and has been in production since November 2020. The disc drive will connect to the console through a USB-C port on the back of the system. Sony will reportedly sell the slim system on its own or bundled with the detachable drive (which itself will be offered separately too).
But no matter which version of the PS5 you own, your priority is most likely games… followed by your dwindling storage space. One game loads of you will be making room for later this year is Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This week a leaked image for the game has confirmed that the game will have several live service elements. Verified by VGC, the image first appeared on 4Chan and is said to be from a recent test build.
Skyrim has aged like a hundred different fine wines thanks to modders, but largely due to its age, Oblivion has received less love over the years. One big mod team is working to change that by remaking Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine, and after years of work, they can finally see the finish line.
The mod, called Skyblivion, has been in the works for many years now, and a new trailer has finally confirmed when we’ll be able to play it. According to the video, the project will launch sometime in 2025. It’s worth noting that this is a conservative estimate by its creators, who’ve added that 2025 is “the latest” fans should expect the mod to be released.
“Making games takes time, this goes double for a volunteer project the size of a AAA game that took a team of fulltime devs years to make,” the team wrote in the video’s description on YouTube. “Regardless we would like to share today that Skyblivion is in a state where we can promise a 2025 release at the latest.”
The Skyblivion team also added that, with more hands on deck, the mod could see the light of day even sooner and included a link (opens in new tab) for those wishing to contribute to the project. “We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation.”
Skyblivion is undoubtedly a labour of love, and the team’s passion and dedication for the project shows in what they’ve been able to achieve so far. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of the impressively revamped locations, including a sun-soaked Imperial City, and the unsavoury individuals you’ll run into as you roam around Cyrodiil.
Despite still being a ways off, it appears that Skyblivion will launch long before the series’ next official entry, The Elder Scrolls 6, which Todd Howard has hinted we may not see until 2026 at the earliest. And let’s be honest, when has a game like this arrived at the earliest?
Genshin Impact usually doesn’t unveil new character and weapon banners until those banners are just about to launch, but in a rare break from tradition, developer Hoyoverse has already confirmed the second round of banners coming in update 3.4, and it might be the best selection the game’s ever had.
We’ve known for a while that Hu Tao and Yelan will be rerunning alongside their signature five-star weapons, and that was already an incredibly strong lineup. Hu Tao is still one of the best single-target DPS characters in the game, and she pairs extremely well with Yelan, who also deals immense single-target damage, and entirely off-field at that. With the reveal of the four-stars accompanying these two powerhouses, the second half of 3.4 is looking hard to resist.
Hu Tao and Yelan’s banners will feature Xingqiu, Beidou, and Ningguang, all of whom will also be available via the 3.4 Lantern Rite event’s one-time freebie. Xingqiu is one of the strongest characters in Genshin and is commonly run with both Hu Tao and Yelan; Beidou is another four-star great who only got stronger with the release of Dendro; and Ningguang is an odd one out here but still a competent character in Geo teams. Taken as a whole, none of the five units on these banners are bad, and four of them are among the highest ranks on our Genshin Impact tier list.
Dear Travelers,The event wishes “Moment of Bloom”, “Discerner of Enigmas” and “Epitome Invocation” will be available on February 7!For more details, please see: https://t.co/6KPF3p5Qou#GenshinImpact #HoYoverse pic.twitter.com/Xf63XzG4L5January 17, 2023

The Aqua Simulacra and Staff of Homa banner is almost as tempting, especially if you enjoy the vertical progression that strong weapons provide over additional characters. Homa and Aqua are best-in-slot on their respective units, and they’re joined by four-star hits like Favonius Sword, a great Xingqiu weapon; Dragon’s Bane, another great Hu Tao weapon; and Favonius Codex, which is a solid choice on the likes of Nahida and Mona.
Even the Rust bow is solid, albeit for Yoimiya specifically, and the Lithic Blade claymore is a good option for Beidou. There are really no outright duds here, which is more than I can say for the Alhaitham and Xiao banners coming in the first half of this patch. (Double-check your Genshin Impact 3.4 release time here, folks.) Hell, I don’t think we’ve ever seen such high-power five-star and four-star units and weapons dropped back-to-back like this.
What’s funny is that while an early banner announcement isn’t entirely unprecedented – I believe Hoyoverse did something similar last New Year – this reveal may have slipped out prematurely. As a video from Braxophone (opens in new tab) shows, the Genshin Impact Twitter mistakenly published a tweet describing banners from the previous patch but with Hu Tao and Yelan’s artwork, though it quickly corrected it with the post above. It’s possible this was just a typo, but perhaps Hoyoverse dropped a drafted tweet early and just left the post up because it knew it couldn’t get the cat back into the bag. Whatever the case, Genshin players are winning once again.
Despite the fact that it got a lot easier to buy a PS5 in 2022, the Switch was still the best-selling console of the year – at least in the US.
Nintendo Switch sold more units than PS5 in both the month of December and 2022 overall, though the pricier PS5 was bigger in terms of dollar sales for the same periods. Xbox Series consoles were in third place in both units and dollar sales. That’s according to Mat Piscatella of analyst group NPD (opens in new tab), which tracks video game sales in the US.
PlayStation boss Jim Ryan declared that the PS5 supply issues were “resolved” back in December, and anecdotally it seems that’s mostly true – at least, Best Buy is currently telling me that there’s a store within 50 miles that has consoles in stock. That wasn’t the case throughout much of 2022, and what the console race looks like in 2023 – with PS5’s supply issues resolved and plans for the next Nintendo console up in the air – is anyone’s guess.

Today’s NPD report also confirms that Elden Ring is the second best-selling game of 2022 in the US, right behind the seemingly unstoppable power of Call of Duty with Modern Warfare 2. Madden NFL 23 comes in third, God of War Ragnarok is in fourth (particularly impressive since it only came out on one platform), and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga rounds out the top five.
US spending on video games was down 5% in 2022 compared to the previous year, owing largely to the supply issues for both new-gen consoles, a relatively small number of premium new releases, and the global economic downturn.

On paper, Sounds Fishy is a slam dunk. I’m a fan of Big Potato projects and love its social deduction games, so this exercise in separating truth from lies must be a shoo-in as a new favorite. Right?
Well, sort of. The team’s caught a clever idea in its net for Sounds Fishy, and there’s plenty of fun to be had as you try to trick your way to victory. However, something I can’t quite put my finger on holds it back from standing shoulder to shoulder with the ultimate party board games.
What is it, and how does it work?
Like many games, Sounds Fishy tasks you with building up points – but it does that in a unique way (Image credit: Future)
Think you’re good at sniffing out liars? Sounds Fishy puts that to the test. In this quick-fire game for up to 10 people, you take it in turns to read out a question everyone else can see the answer to. Those players then have to come up with a response based on the secret role they’ve been given at the start of the round. ‘Red Herrings’ have to make up something convincing on the spot, and they get points if they go undetected. Meanwhile, the ‘True Blue Kipper’ must say the real answer but ensure it sounds unbelievable. The sooner they can get eliminated, the bigger their payout.
In other words? Sounds Fishy flips the usual formula on its head. Unlike Big Potato’s other sneak-centric games (The Chameleon and Snakesss), the majority of you are telling fibs. As such, those who aren’t fans of deception are better off giving this one a miss.
Still, one key concept stays the same – it’s easy to get into. Although you’ll spend a hot moment getting your head around the points system (everyone uses slightly different rules), there’s a pretty low barrier to entry here overall.
It’s nice and quick, too; depending on how many players there are, you can finish a match in 15 – 20 minutes. Just don’t forget to pause and appreciate the excellent production design. Each token has a lovely metallic shimmer running through it that would make the Rainbow Fish of childrens’ books jealous, including points counters that are emblazoned with sea shell icons. If you ask me, it’s Big Potato’s prettiest game so far.
Gameplay
Whoever has the True Blue Kipper has to try and get caught as soon as possible (Image credit: Future)
Sounds Fishy has a great elevator pitch. Picking out literal red herring answers is an easy sell that doesn’t take any explaining, so getting enough players together isn’t hard. You don’t need to go into a long spiel about how it all works either, which is always a bonus (some of the best board games are too complex for their own good).
You’ll also have a good time battling each other for points. The process of trying to weed out fibs from fact is engaging enough to keep you invested, and the same is true of those attempting to stay under the radar. Keeping players off your scent as a True Blue Kipper is an equally usual challenge; be too obvious and the jig is up, losing you the advantage.
Even board game novices are unlikely to feel lost
It certainly helps that the questions are bizarre enough to catch you off guard. Where is it illegal to fall asleep in South Dakota, for instance? A game like this lives or dies on the strength of its trivia, and Sounds Fishy passes the litmus test with gusto. Some answers are so strange that you couldn’t make up anything weirder if you tried.
Accordingly, it’s quirky and has plenty of character. There’s no confusion about what you have to do during a match either, so even board game novices are unlikely to feel lost.
The trouble is, it all lacks… bite. Not having to justify your response one way or another is a bit anticlimactic, for example, and while it’s not necessarily a feature I wish was present, it’s an example of there not being quite enough skill at play here. The Chameleon relies on a similar structure, but having to come up with a unique word for a topic each time (all while) is a satisfying challenge. That means it’s near-infinitely replayable, too.
The same can’t be said for Sounds Fishy. Actually, there’s a danger of learning the answers to each question if you overplay it. That means it has a more limited shelf-life.
Still, adding more people into the mix makes it better (it’s easier to pick out fibs with fewer players). Plus, it’s not like you won’t have a good time – you will. And to be perfectly honest? That’s probably all that really matters.
Should you buy Sounds Fishy?
Sounds Fishy reels you in with a great premise, but it doesn’t always catch you – it needs just a little more substance to become a favorite in the long-term.
However, it not being catch of the day doesn’t mean you should ignore give up on Sounds Fishy. A very reasonable price and accessible, beginner-friendly gameplay makes it a party game worth considering… especially if you want something light and easy to kick off with.
How we tested Sounds Fishy
I played Sounds Fishy with different groups of varying sizes, and made sure I played each of its roles to get a better idea of what they were like.
A Bloodborne remaster might not be on the cards, but this 8K Lies of P trailer comes pretty close.
Lies of P, a game that blends the story of Pinocchio with gameplay that’s straight out of a Souls title, is undoubtedly one of the year’s most anticipated releases for action-RPG fans. The game dazzled players when it was first shown in 2021 and continues to well and truly wow us each time we see it in action.
The latest trailer released by Neowiz and AMD shows never-before-seen content from Lies of P running on AMD’s brand new Radeon RX 7900 XTX at 8K resolution. The footage, which you can check out below, sees our humanoid protagonist Pinocchio making his way through some gorgeously gloomy streets that give off a serious Bloodborne vibe, slicing through mechanical minions as he goes.
We’re then treated to a boss fight against a huge robotic creature with glowing red eyes. In typical Souls fashion, this guy doesn’t go down easily, and staying alive involves blocking or carefully weaving between its ferocious attacks while waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
The trailer was strictly gameplay based, so all we still know of the story is that it’s a dark retelling of the classic tale of Pinocchio. The famous puppet wakes to find himself in an abandoned train station in Krat with a note which reads, “Find Mr. Geppetto.” No specific release date has yet been set for Lies of P, but it is due to launch on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC sometime this year. It’s also been confirmed as a Game Pass day one title.
Ash’s last team in the Pokemon anime is made up of a few familiar faces.
If you don’t want to know anything about Ash’s final season in the Pokemon anime, we suggest you come back once you’ve watched the first episode to avoid spoilers.
As revealed in YouTuber Elite Trainer Mark (opens in new tab)‘s video – which shares highlights of the first episode of Ash’s final season – Ash and Pikachu are going to be reunited with several familiar faces over the 11-episode miniseries. According to the video, Ash’s final team is currently made up of Sceptile, Donphan, Noivern, and Buizel.
Long-time fans will already know that each of these Pokemon have had their place in Ash’s team during the anime at one time or another. It’s currently unclear why Ash’s team contains those specific Pokemon, but since the kid is now a Pokemon World Champion, he can probably choose whatever Pokemon he likes.
In the same video, we also find out more about the Pokemon anime theme song remake, which was revealed to be part of this season just before the first episode aired. According to Elite Trainer Mark, the opening is pretty similar to the original Japanese opening however with a few extras, for example, old clips and images of Ash’s journeys over the years – which is sure to feel super nostalgic for fans.
The main crux of this first episode sees Ash and Pikachu just enjoying life as they venture through an unspecified region. We won’t go into a lot of detail but, thanks to the aforementioned video, we know that the first episode includes a visit from Team Rocket (who else?) and sees Ash reuniting with Latias.
Update – January 18: After quickly surpassing its Kickstarter goal of $80,000, LumenTale: Memories of Trey is already sitting at $100,000 in crowdfunding at the time of writing. Developer Beehive Studios celebrated (opens in new tab) by adding more rewards to pricier backer tiers – like a $1,000 tier that already has four takers – and unveiling more of its stretch goals.
With $100,000 in the bag, LumenTale has already hit the mark for an expanded housing system, console ports for Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, as well as an intro featuring singer Emi Evans of Nier and Dark Souls gaming fame. The colorful little catch-’em-up still has more than two weeks left in its campaign too, so it may hit more stretch goals yet.
Original story follows…
The year’s only just begun but a new Pokemon-inspired creature-collecting RPG has already popped up, and it’s quickly found some big love on Kickstarter. At the time of writing, it’s very nearly crossed its funding threshold with 20 days left in its campaign.
LumenTale: Memories of Trey (opens in new tab) promises a storm of “mysteries, memories and emotions” between “exciting combat and boss battles.” You guessed it: you play as Trey, a monster tamer exploring the land of Talea after regaining his lost memories. Your partners in adventure are the fairly boldly named Animons, which are described as “mystical creatures made of special energy that flows throughout the whole world.” They can be friendly or aggressive, but many Animon learned to live together with humans, and “from that moment on, human civilization experienced exponential growth.”
“Animon species are incredibly diverse, with some rare variants exhibiting traits of species that are now scarce or extinct,” LumenTale’s Kickstarter reads. “These are known as Lost Animons, and encountering one is considered an extremely lucky event. Researchers consider it a special and fortunate occasion to spot a Lost Animon, as it is a reminder of the ever-evolving nature of life.”
The goal of many Talea citizens – that is, the very best that they want to be – is to become a Lumen and command a squad of Animon. I’m sure plenty of players will follow this career path, but I suspect many will also be content to build the “Anispace” of their dreams – in place of whatever’s inside a Pokeball – to give their Animon the ideal home. It is hard not to gush over these things when they’re so freakin’ cute.
Combat looks like a familiar turn-based affair, but I’m intrigued by the focus on an Animon’s speed as it relates to action points. Each skill has a speed stat of its own, I gather, so “the battle system is all about choosing the right order in which to use an Action, picking the best Action to use, and strategizing against your opponents.”
LumenTale also splits Animon into emotional energies – joy, gloom, anger, fear, and calm – as well as 13 elements like electric and grass, or more abstract ones like aura and geo (hello, Genshin Impact fans). It’s an intriguing little system, and it’s even got its own in-game TCG so you can collect even more things. This is all extremely Pokemon-like stuff, but all art builds on art, and clearly Pokemon-like stuff is what a lot of people want.
LumenTale has a Steam demo coming soon, but based on its Kickstarter delivery date, the full game won’t be released until the end of 2024. The devs at Beehive Studios are targeting PC for now, but hope to hit Switch, PlayStation, and/or Xbox via stretch goals.

With the Genshin Impact 3.4 release time set for later today, the headlining Alhaitham banner is now just hours away.
Genshin Impact update 3.4 will launch at approximately 7pm PT / 10pm ET / 3am BT today, January 17 (technically tomorrow for you Brits), though we may be able to log in early if maintenance finishes ahead of schedule, which it often does. Alhaitham’s banner will be live when the update launches, so have your Primogems ready. You’ve still got time to knock out the time-saving pre-installation, so get that download going.
Alhaitham will debut alongside yet another rerun for Xiao, with both of their signature five-star weapons on the accompanying weapon banner. The four-star characters on their banner include Yaoyao, the first-ever Dendro healer; Yun Jin, a normal attack supporter who likely won’t play well with Alhaitham; and Xinyan, a notoriously weak unit who’s hard to use in almost any team.
Remember, you can get any of these four-star characters for free, as well as top-tier picks like Xingqiu and Xiangling, from 3.4’s Lantern Rite event. Have a look at our full Genshin Impact tier list for more details on how all of them play. The four-star options on the weapon banner are generally weak too, making the update’s opening banners pure five-star showcases.
The good news is those five-stars are pretty solid. Xiao is better than ever after the recent release of Faruzan, and Alhaitham looks mighty fun to play, as evidenced by his newly released character demo which has somehow racked up 1.2 million views and nearly 200,000 likes in 12 hours. It is a bit of a banger, I will admit.
If you’re not sold on the characters that update 3.4 has to offer, you’ll still have a whole new chunk of desert to explore and a Lantern Rite festival to enjoy. You may also be more interested in the now-confirmed lineup for update 3.5, which will add Dehya and Mika as playable units.
Worm Game launched for Stadia on January 13 as the final entry in the platform’s library. It’s basically a multiplayer variant of Snake, the game you may remember from ancient Nokia phones where you control a serpentine creature that gradually gets longer as you eat bits of food collected around the screen. The Stadia devs used Worm Game to test the platform prior to launch, which makes this the first and only first-party Stadia game to actually see the light of day.
While the devs are quick to note that Worm Game probably “won’t win Game of the Year,” some fans are disputing that, calling it “GOTY 2023 (opens in new tab)” and asking “why is the worm game so good lol (opens in new tab)“. Those posts may be a bit facetious, but there’s a legitimate volume of love being shown to the game here in Stadia’s final moments.
Some players (via The Gamer (opens in new tab)) are competing on Worm Game’s leaderboard for the ultimate bragging rights: owning the top score on Stadia’s final game as the platform shuts down. The top score is at least 113,500 points now, though you can’t actually see the top of the leaderboard unless you reach that position, making it difficult to tell where the top scorer sits without ranking highly yourself.
For now, here’s hoping that the top players are serious about documenting their scores. This is important history, here. Stadia is shutting down tonight, January 18, at midnight Pacific time, so the window to achieve high score immortality is closing.
Mario has been the star of some of the most impressive and beautifully executed speedruns in the history of games, and thanks to YouTube j0rts, he’s now the star of one of an amazingly silly one that many people can aspire to: touching grass.
“People keep telling me to touch grass so that’s exactly what I did…by seeing how fast you can touch grass in every Mario game,” the YouTuber says. The player starts with Super Mario Bros on the NES, where it takes almost 2 minutes before they finally get their hands on the green stuff. Super Mario Bros 2 has touchable grass much earlier, at around 19 seconds into the game.
It’s definitely worth giving the whole video a watch, but if you want just the highlights, then Super Mario Land 2 offers the speediest path to grass at just over 6 seconds, followed by Super Mario 3D World at around 18 seconds. At the other end of the scale is Super Mario Odyssey, where it takes around 3 minutes 34 seconds to touch grass, closely followed by Super Mario World 2 with 3 minutes 38 seconds. The Mario game that you’ll have to play the longest is Super Mario Sunshine by quite a margin, as grass isn’t touchable in the 2002 GameCube title until around 7 minutes 30 seconds, although this is largely down to the introductory cutscenes and tutorials.
You can see what other “mostly pointless things in video games” j0rts likes to do by checking out their YouTube channel (opens in new tab). And in case you were wondering, no, they’ve never actually worn a pair of jorts.

Persona games are masters at making us appreciate the mundane, mostly because every simple activity is an opportunity to improve yourself. Not just metaphorically, either. Much like other Persona games, Persona 3 Portable will test your knowledge to answer questions in the classroom, and on midterm and final exam questions throughout the school year. While some of these questions are easy if you’ve been following along in the lecture, some require a bit more outside knowledge. Our Persona 3 classroom answer guide will help you pick the correct responses from April to January.
Getting each question right increases your Charm — even if you’re telling Junpei the right answer. Doing well on the midterms and final exams means Mitsuru, your team’s de facto academic scold, will give you a special reward.
