  • Mario Kart Players Land Groundbreaking Trick After 27 Years

Mario Kart Players Land Groundbreaking Trick After 27 Years

    [ad_1]

Skips and speedruns are basically like magic, to me. The tenacity it takes to find ways to break a game and circumvent entire sections is a skill and patience I don’t have. That being said, I’m always glad to watch someone just walk or drive through a wall and end up somewhere they weren’t supposed to be yet. It’s delightful. It’s an art form that people are always chipping away at, and that means sometimes these skips can be found in old games like Mario Kart 64. After 27 years, someone has managed to pull off a skip in the Bowser’s Castle course so difficult to execute, it’s almost impossible to repeat…until now.

For a lot of us, Mario Kart tech is mostly just about using your items strategically and knowing when to drift. Maybe you know a good shortcut, or can pull off drifting. But for the speedrunning community, it’s about carefully studying each track and nailing down frame-perfect maneuvers to shave off even the smallest fraction of your time. For the Mario Kart 64 speedrunning community, Bowser’s Castle has presented a white whale in the form of a skip that requires you to drive through a specific wall. The technical breakdown is pretty complex and boils down to some walls in the game being built in such a way that there’s a tiny gap for players to squeeze through. It’s all about hitting it at the right angle and using speed items like the mushroom. But luckily, YouTube user Abyssoft has an entire video breaking down the skip, the tech behind it, and how multiple speedrunners have suddenly been able to utilize it after all these years.

    Abyssoft

The first time the skip was first introduced in 2021 was by speedrunner Forest64, which sparked a fire in the community to attempt to recreate it. However, it wouldn’t be until almost two years later that it was recreated and used in a speedrun, resulting in some shifts in the track’s speedrunning records. Forest64 himself managed to implement the skip in a run after over 200 hours of grinding and thousands of attempts on March 11, 2023 beating the previous non-shortcut time by just four-tenths of a second. This was impressive because it both dethroned the original time, and was the first time the skip was successfully pulled off through play, rather than testing.

However, that reign would be short lived, as speedrunner Christian C. hit the skip and shaved off a second of his time just two days later on March 13. The following day, speedrunner Aaron Jablonski also managed to hit the skip but wasn’t quite able to overtake Christian’s time. Abyssoft’s video breaks down some of the ways this run can still be improved by using the skip, but given just how difficult it’s proven for the pros to pull off, it may be some time before anyone manages to improve the run through this method.

Ironically enough, after all the hubbub the world record for Bowser’s Castle was overtaken again by Beck Abney on April 4 without using the skip. As of this writing, Abney’s record of 1’49″38 sits on the top spot, but there’s still room for the speedrunners to cut down the already impressive time if the skip is implemented.

What remains to be seen is if The Super Mario Bros. Movie actor Jack Black can beat the record after beating his castmates in Mario Kart for all to see.

Marvel Boss Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Movie: “We Never Discussed An Idea,” Lucasfilm President Says

    [ad_1]

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has clarified the situation surrounding Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige’s rumored Star Wars movie. Speaking to IGN, Kennedy said Feige is a big Star Wars fan but there was never a real discussion about making a movie.

“Kevin Feige’s project was something that was announced in the press… but nothing ever got developed. We never discussed an idea,” Kennedy said. “As everyone knows, Kevin is a huge Star Wars fan. If he did come up with something, I would be all ears. But that’s never really happened. It’s not an abandoned project–it just didn’t happen.”

According to press reports, Feige was going to produce a Star Wars movie, but no official announcement was ever made about this. In March this year, a report said Feige’s rumored Star Wars movie had been shelved. Speaking generally about movie development, Kennedy said it can be a long and difficult process to get from script to the screen.

“Development is a complicated, long-term process. For some people, we’re dealing with scheduling. Really talented people are working. So it’s often not a ‘shelving,’ it’s just, ‘Is it ready?’ That’s really what it comes down to,” Kennedy said.

To that end, Kennedy said Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie might not be going forward as planned, but the material could come back in some form.

As part of Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced three movies, one of which will feature Daisy Ridley coming back to play Rey once again. On the TV front, Ahsoka is coming this August, followed by Andor Season 2 in August 2024.

The next Star Wars video game is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which launches April 28.

  • How one of the greatest visual novels got an English translation because of its fans

How one of the greatest visual novels got an English translation because of its fans

    [ad_1]

You might not know what Muv-Luv is. I hadn’t even heard of it till a few years ago. Which is strange, since Muv-Luv is considered by many to be one of the most greatest visual novels of all time. What begins as a light-hearted slice-of-life high school romantic comedy eventually pulls the rug out from under the player, and transforms into a war epic featuring mechs and aliens with a much darker tone. In Muv-Luv’s original Japanese release, this twist was hidden and only briefly hinted at in the marketing.

Today both Muv-Luv games are easily available on Steam, marketed specifically with this twist, and where they sit fully-translated and with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. iOS and Android ports are apparently in development, and other Muv-Luv spin-offs continue to get translated. But the first time anyone experienced a complete English language version of Muv-Luv was in July 2010, when a fan translation group called Amaterasu released a patch localising the first game.

  • The Best ‘Marvel Snap’ Decks – April 2023 Edition – TouchArcade

The Best ‘Marvel Snap’ Decks – April 2023 Edition – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Okay, we’re a week into April already, but better late than never, right? The truth is that Marvel Snap (Free) has seen a few changes and tweaks that I wanted to let settle in before doing this month’s guide. As usual, there have been some new cards added since we last checked in, but there have also been some critical nerfs and buffs that have thrown a wrench into the meta in some ways. So let’s have a look and see what’s hot right now in the world of Marvel Snap decks. Remember: today’s winning deck could be tomorrow’s cold meatloaf. These guides are one way to keep your finger on the pulse of the scene, but they aren’t the only method you should be using.

Note that most of these decks are the best of the best at this point in time. They assume you have access to a full range of cards. I’ll once again be including the five strongest Marvel Snap decks of the moment, and I’ll throw in a couple more decks that don’t need anything too hard to get and are just sort of fun to play with. If you need more advice for building decks from more basic sets of cards, make sure to check out our beginner’s guide for some tips.

Since the last time we checked in, there have been some new cards added via the Days of Future Past season. Master Mold seems to have found a home in destroyer decks as anyone could have predicted, but the other cards seem to still be finding their place. Kitty Pryde was actually disabled and pulled due to breaking the game, so we have no idea what she’ll be doing for decks yet. As usual, some cards were nerfed and buffed, with some direct attempts to weaken the power of Thanos and Shuri decks. Let’s check out the five strongest decks for April 2023, plus a couple of decent decks that are easier to put together.

    Shuri & Zero

Included Cards: Shuri, Zero, Armor, Sunspot, Aero, Cosmo, Typhoid Mary, Vision, Red Skull, Taskmaster, She-Hulk, Arnim Zola

One of the nerfs in the last month attempted to weaken Shuri decks, but this one still can’t be denied. Shuri is an outstanding card with her ability to double the Power of the next card you play. Combine her with another card with a high Power score and you can easily rack up the wins. Zero removes the abilities of the next card you play, and is often paired with high Power cards that have negative effects such as Typhoid Mary or Red Skull. The idea is that Shuri’s doubling ability means those high Power cards are more than worth their negative effects, and Zero can just remove them. Shang-Chi remains a risk to this deck, and Valkyrie is starting to see a lot of play as a counter as well. Armor and Cosmo can help deal with Shang-Chi, and Cosmo can also help with Valkyrie.

    Thanos & Lockjaw

Included Cards: Thanos, Lockjaw, Wave, Shang-Chi, Blue Marvel, Leech, Odin, Doctor Doom, She-Hulk, Magneto, Killmonger, Death

Thanos & Lockjaw looked like it was on the ropes after the Mad Titan got nerfed, but players have found some tweaks to make it stay competitive. The main changes involve bringing in Killmonger and Death. Aero just isn’t what she was, and using Killmonger to clean up any unneeded Infinity Stones while also bringing down Death’s Cost for a big late-game play is worth its weight in gold. Just be mindful as always of Shang-Chi and Valkyrie, who are constant major spoilers for high-Power cards.

    Control Sera

Included Cards: Sera, Nova, Angela, Armor, Scarlet Witch, Sentinel, Mysterio, Lizard, Bishop, Killmonger, Shang-Chi, Enchantress

This deck is particularly fascinating because it doesn’t require any Series 4 or Series 5 cards, and in fact barely needs any Series 3 cards at all. The ‘Control’ in this deck’s title refers to how you need to manipulate the turn order to make sure your cards are revealed last all the way up until the end. That means you have to make sure you’re losing until the very end. Do what you will for the first few turns but make sure you hang on to Killmonger for the last turn. Play Sera on the fifth turn, and deploy various combinations of Enchantress, Killmonger, and Shang-Chi to completely ruin your opponent’s party.

    Thor & Lockjaw

Included Cards: Thor, Lockjaw, Wasp, Iceman, Sunspot, Dracula, Jubilee, Jane Foster Thor, America Chavez, Hulk, The Infinaut, Magneto

This deck remains a royal pain in the butt to play against, and that means it’s a great deck to use yourself. The only real change from last time is the inclusion of Iceman, who is turning out to be one of the few useful counters to some of the other strong decks. The idea is the same as other Lockjaw decks. Get the pup out there, and start throwing your low Cost on On Reveal cards at him to try to draw out the big guns. A solid deck that doesn’t need too many fancy cards to work, but you are depending a little on the luck of the draw with Lockjaw’s teleporting.

    Darkhawk & Zabu

Included Cards: Darkhawk, Zabu, Wasp, Yellowjacket, Korg, Black Widow, Lockjaw, Mystique, Rock Slide, Wong, America Chavez, Doctor Doom

Darkhawk was a big roller before he got nerfed a little while back, but there are still some players finding ways to make him work. In principle, this is the usual Darkhawk deck. A lot of cards that will fill up the other player’s hand, which adds to Darkhawk’s Power. Mystique is there to copy Darkhawk, of course. Lockjaw, the low-Cost cards, and the big guns work as a back-up plan if you can’t quite get things together. The good news is that it’s a lot easier to get your hands on the needed cards for this one these days, though it’s still going to be out of reach for many players.

And now, a couple of decent decks for those still climbing up the collection ladder.

    Shaun’s Slobberknocker Mark 3

Included Cards: Patriot, Squirrel Girl, Ultron, Kazar, Abomination, Mystique, Iceman, Thing, Cyclops, Shocker, Misty Knight, Wasp

Back to basics this time, but still built around Patriot’s useful buffs for cards with no abilities. Use Mystique to copy either Patriot or Kazar’s ability, allowing you an extra buff. Squirrel Girl, Misty Knight, and Iceman are there to try to draw out Killmonger plays from the opponent, ensuring they don’t have him left in their hand on the last turn when you send out Ultron. Iceman also serves as a nice little nuisance for the opponent. This remains a deck that doesn’t require too many fancy cards to put together but yields reliable results. Since it doesn’t depend on many heavy hitters, it’s largely unaffected by Shang-Chi or Valkyrie shenanigans.

    Kazoo

Included Cards: Ka-Zar, Ant-Man, Elektra, Nightcrawler, Squirrel Girl, Iceman, Lizard, Armor, Cosmo, Sandman, Blue Marvel, Spectrum

An oldie but a goodie. If you’re just starting out in Marvel Snap, the Kazoo deck is going to help you fill out your collection more quickly. It’s as simple as it gets. Ka-Zar can buff 1-Cost cards, so get those 1-Cost cards out there and back them up with Ka-Zar. On the fifth turn, play Sandman. This limits your opponent’s options for the final turn, and you’ve probably only got Blue Marvel or Spectrum left in your hand by then anyway. Simple and clean.

And that’s it for this month’s deck guide. We’ll return with another one of these in May to see where things stand after the Animals Assemble event and this month’s nerfs and buffs shake out with the meta. Happy Snapping!

  • Big Breath Of The Wild YouTuber Hit By Nintendo After Multiplayer Mod

Big Breath Of The Wild YouTuber Hit By Nintendo After Multiplayer Mod

    [ad_1]

YouTuber and speedrunner Eric “PointCrow” Morino released a brand new multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on April 4. It basically transforms the hit 2017 Switch game into a modern open-world version of the beloved co-op Zelda spin-off Four Swords Adventures. A couple of days later, Morino says Nintendo hit him with copyright infringement claims that led some of his biggest YouTube videos to be demonetized.

“Incredibly disappointed that Nintendo of America has decided to block my videos on Breath of the Wild,” he tweeted on April 6. “It’s the love for the community and the innovation that we bring to it that has kept it alive & brought new people to love the Zelda series. I hope you reverse your decision soon.” Morino also shared a screencap of several of his YouTube videos, including ones featuring gameplay footage from the multiplayer mod, showing they’d been flagged for copyright issues.

Nintendo didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Publishers maintain they have full ownership and control over any footage produced from their games, but they rarely seek to penalize YouTubers and other content creators for sharing it online and potentially profiting off of it. In fact most companies go out of their way to promote the sharing of footage and screenshots from their games to help spread awareness, increase sales, and cultivate a community of passionate fans.

When it comes to social media content around fan projects and mods, however, Nintendo is one company that’s often aggressively pushed back. Late last year, the Switch manufacturer went after a YouTube documentary about an abandoned pitch for a Zelda tactics spin-off, seeking to get it removed from Google’s platform. The creators eventually managed to appeal the decision and get it reversed.

In response to Morino’s post, several other big content creators chimed in. “Not good for them considering they’re releasing a new game soon and many content creators will popularize it even more and may choose not to create videos around it,” wrote Kittyplays. “Nintendo detected fans having fun and they can’t have that,” wrote LostPause. “This is sad given how much love and effort you given them and botw.”

Breath of the Wild is the fourth best-selling game on Switch, and has remained relevant years after its release in part due to the discoveries, tricks, and new stunts pulled off by people like Morino. Outside of the recent multiplayer mod, he’s drawn millions of additional eyeballs to the game with weird runs like Link growing bigger every time the A button is pressed, or trying to beat the game while both the hardest randomizer mode and the very difficult, map-changing Relics of the Past mod are active.

Morino didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment but tweeted that he’s currently appealing the decision with YouTube. “As of now, [the videos are still visible for you to watch—however, they are not monetized,” he wrote. “Hopefully Nintendo releases these claims, as I significantly transform their work and my videos are under fair use.”

  • 10 Things EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Team Needs To Build On FIFA 23

10 Things EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Team Needs To Build On FIFA 23

    [ad_1]

The transition from FIFA 23 to EA Sports FC 24 promises to be the biggest in the history of EA’s football simulation series, despite confirmation that every fan favorite mode will make a return.

Though the ongoing success of the FIFA franchise is undeniable, there are definite areas in which it can improve — and there seems little better opportunity than when it makes the switch to EA Sports FC. Here are 10 things EA Sports need to do in EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Team to ensure it builds on FIFA 23 and gets the new series off to the right start.

    1. Objectives For Objectives

    EA Sports via Twinfinite

Right now in Ultimate Team, Objectives are important to completing huge swathes of challenges and earning rewards. However, despite their importance and the sheer volume, players still have to claim each completed Objective one by one. There’s also no way to know you’ve completed a specific gameplay-related Objective in-game.

A ‘Claim All’ needs to happen to save time and improve the UX, especially when the objectives in question are arbitrary TIFOs, small amounts of XP or even more inconsequential rewards. So too, does an in-game pinging system to let you know when you’ve met the relevant criteria.

    2. ‘Tis The Season For Better Season Rewards

    FIFA 23 Season Rewards Screengrab
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

Balancing Season rewards in FUT is a tricky line to toe, with players demanding bang for their buck but needing to earn it at the same time.

Regardless, it’s pretty safe to say that grinding for hours to earn a TIFO or stadium feature that you’ll probably never use is unrewarding and can even be frustrating. Coin boosts and solid packs are welcome, but they come too infrequently across the thirty tiers to feel like the grind is worth it.

    3. Changes To Position Changes

FIFA 23 Harry Kewell being give a position change
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

FIFA 23’s changes to position were largely welcomed. The realism brought by position changes specific to players seemed, on paper, a great step forward.

However, it’s become a bit of a headache. EA’s regular addition of the Position Modifier SBC has been a solution of sorts, but it does appear an admission that it wasn’t integrated flawlessly: having to give a player a modifier every time you want to use one of their potential positions seems a bizarre choice. That can change in EA Sports FC.

    4. Make Chemistry Great Again

FIFA 23 Empty Squad Chemistry Screengrab
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

Like the position change system, chemistry changes in FIFA 23 were welcomed, with the idea that players no longer had to be next to each other a sensible one. However, it’s become incredibly difficult to get players on full chemistry.

Pair this with the complete absence of chemistry if a player’s not in their correct position and SBCs, squad-building for matches and hybrid squads are more difficult to pull off as a result.

    5. Duplicate Duplicates

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team Walkout Player
    Image via EA Sports

There’s a lot of sense in not letting players accumulate duplicates. But, when so many cards in FUT right now are untradeable and so many can be good for SBCs, it’s a pain to have to discard players (especially high OVR ones) because there’s already one in your club. A duplicate pile, even with a strict hard limit, would go a long way to alleviating this.

    6. Shorter Squad Batt-

    FIFA 23 Squad Battles Screengrab
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

Again, Squad Battles have been made integral to a lot of challenges in FUT, especially swaps-based ones. The problem is that they’re monotonous and repetitive, with AI competition just not comparable to online matches against a real player.

A simple reduction in time, to three or four minute halves, would be a long overdue to the much-maligned mode.

    7. Goalkeepers AgAIn

FIFA 23 player shooting from tight angle
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

It seems like most years in FIFA that goalkeepers and their AI are a major point of discussion. FIFA 23 is no different, with shot-stoppers still inconsistent to a frustrating extent. One game they’re unbeatable, the next they’re incapable of catching a cold. Balance is the answer here, and hopefully EA Sports FC can find it.

    8. Freelance Players

    FIFA 23 Contracts Screengrab
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

What we mean by this is the removal of contracts. In the same way player fitness was taken to the abattoir, it feels like the same needs to happen with contracts.

They’re restrictive and unnecessary, especially in light of how fast players accumulate them and the spaces they take up in packs. Giving us a player for good seems the easy answer.

    9. Finesse Shots (But No Finesse Shots)

    Cody Gakpo POTM SBC
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

Like GK AI, this is more of a gameplay one than specific to FUT, but it still needs addressing. Every year it seems that one type of shot — be it power, finesse or a trivela — is incredibly OP and can be exploited by even the most average of players. EA Sports’ quest to make FIFA as realistic and grounded as possible will only be successful if all shot types are usable and perform comparably.

    10. Incentive To Draft

FIFA 23 Draft Captains Select Screengrab
    EA Sports via Twinfinite

Back when it was added, Draft Mode was a welcome chance to use the best players and build fun and dynamic squads. It’s become less and less necessary as cards and teams have improved, to the point where there’s very little reason to do a Draft.

The rewards just don’t justify the time spent and, paired with the choice to omit position modifier cards from the mode, it feels very unrewarding and awkward. The mode, put simply, needs a revamp in EA Sports FC.

That rounds off our list of 10 things we want to see changed from FIFA 23 to EA Sports FC 24. As we approach the release — expected around fall as normal — we’ll get answers to some of these conundrums.

  • 10 Decks to Make the Most Of Marvel Snap’s Cute New Animal Cards & Variants

10 Decks to Make the Most Of Marvel Snap’s Cute New Animal Cards & Variants

    [ad_1]

April 2023’s Marvel Snap Season Pass highlighted the animals of the mobile card game. The Season itself added some new animals and Variants. While not all the cards have been released yet, here’s how you can get ready to build them and how you can use the cute new Variants once you get them.

    Jeff

    Image via Nuverse

The adorable baby landshark, Jeff, has an ability that lets the card be moved one time without any kind of restriction – from the way the ability is worded, it should be able to be moved into things like Flooded locations of Professor X’s lockdowns. The 2-cost 3-power Jeff won’t be available until April 18, 2023, but it seems like he’ll thrive in decks with Kraven.

Kraven’s ability gives Kraven extra power when a card moves to the location he’s at. Jeff will be a strong, low-cost companion to help ensure that Kraven ramps up as much as possible. A fun deck that could look like this:

    • Jeff
    • Kraven
    • Cloak
    • Dagger
    • Dr. Strange
    • Human Torch
    • Iron Fist
    • Silk
    • Vulture
    • Ghost-Spider
    • Captain Marvel
    • Heimdal

    Captain America

    Cat Captain America Marvel Snap

Captain America is getting a feline Variant, and the tough alley cat has plenty of decks where it shines. One of the most accessible ones includes other buffers and low-cost cards to ramp things up. Including Carnage along with everything else gives you a good amount of room to really play through your cards as well.

An example deck with Captain America used like this is this one from user Bluefox667 on Marvel Snap Zone:

    • Ant-Man
    • Elektra
    • Nova
    • Squirrel Girl
    • Nightcrawler
    • Angela
    • Carnage
    • Bishop
    • Wolfsbane
    • Captain America
    • Ka-Zar
    • Blue Marvel

    Uatu the Watcher

    Uatu pig in Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

Decks with Uatu can be difficult to really find – it’s not a card that has its own archetype, and it can be hard to find a place for it. However, user PoetNorthstar found a way to include it in a rendition of an event deck.

This deck really exists to have fun with. Every time you play it, you’ll see different things, which is why Uatu is so good in it. Since you can’t quite prepare for what your deck will do, preparing for the variables in the game (ie locations) is helpful. Here’s what that deck looks like:

    • Uatu the Watcher
    • Luke Cage
    • Psylocke
    • Armor
    • Agent Coulson
    • Thor
    • Jubilee
    • Wong
    • Sera
    • Jane Forter the Mighty Thor
    • Doctor Doom
    • Odin

    Snowguard

    Snowguard Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

Snowguard is another one of the new animals coming to Marvel Snap. It’s releasing on April 11, 2023, and players already know that it’s a bit of a tricky card. Every turn, Snowguard will change forms that have different abilities. Snowguard Hawk has an On Reveal ability that ignores all Location abilities the next turn. Snowguard Bear has an On Reveal ability that triggers the Location effect.

Clearly, these are going to be laser-focused on Locations, so it’s a bit of a trick deck. This means that it’s going to be more fun than powerful. Here’s an idea of a deck where Snowguard should feel at home:

    • Snowguard
    • Lockjaw
    • Killmonger
    • Wave
    • Shang-Chi
    • Iron-Man
    • Leech
    • Doctor Doom
    • Odin
    • She-Hulk
    • Thanos
    • Death

    Nick Fury

Nick Fury bear in Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

There’s only one true place for Nick Fury, and that’s by Devil Dino’s side. With the new bear Variant for Nick Fury, it’s the perfect time to highlight one of the most fun early(ish) decks in the game. This is one of the few ways to use Devil Dinosaur without running Moon Girl, and the deck can get you far early on.

Here’s one way to build it:

    • Nick Fury
    • Agent 13
    • Korg
    • Quinjet
    • The Collector
    • Agent Coulson
    • Devil Dinosaur
    • Mantis
    • White Queen
    • Armor
    • Cable
    • Sentinel

    Devil Dinosaur

Devil Dino animal and Moon Girl Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

While Devil Dinosaur is always an animal, he’s getting a new Dan Hipp Variant (along with an Avatar to match). Since the Nick Fury/Devil Dino combination was already explained above, here’s a classic Moon Girl/Devil Dinosaur deck to round it out. Moon Girl’s also getting a Dan Hipp Variant, so it’s the perfect combination:

    • Devil Dinosaur
    • Moon Girl
    • Agent 13
    • Cable
    • Quinjet
    • The Collector
    • Mantis
    • White Queen
    • Sentinel
    • America Chavez
    • Armor
    • Killmonger

    Stegron

    Stegron Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

Another dinosaur is coming to Marvel Snap: Stegron. The card will be pretty annoying with its On Reveal ability that moves an enemy card at the same Location to one of the other Locations. Stegron won’t be in the game until April 25, 2023.

Considering his ability, it looks like he’ll be pretty useful in Control decks with cards like Sera and Mysterio. Here’s what that could look like:

    • Stegron
    • Nova
    • Carnage
    • Mysterio
    • Lizard
    • Scarlet Witch
    • Bishop
    • Killmonger
    • Polaris
    • Shang-Chi
    • Enchantress
    • Sera

    Cosmo

    Cosmo Marvel Snap

Cosmo’s getting another adorable skin, and it’s easily gotten through the Season Pass. Since the lovable dog can be used in plenty of different decks, here’s a fun, late-Series deck where Cosmo can really shine from YouTuber KM Best:

    • Cosmo
    • Korg
    • Quinjet
    • Zabu
    • Sentintel
    • Mystique
    • Darkhawk
    • Shang-Chi
    • Moon Girl
    • Rock Slide
    • Devil Dinosaur
    • Doctor Doom

    Deathlok

    Deathlok rooster Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

When it comes to Destroy decks, Deathlok is one of the most helpful early-game cards out there. He’s getting a new rooster Variant, so it’s time to look at one of his most popular decks.

In general, there are a variety of ways to play Destroy decks. However, there’s a pretty solid deck that’s generally going to be one of the best because of how well it synergizes (and performs). Here are the cards:

    • Deathlok
    • The Hood
    • Deadpool
    • Nova
    • Bucky Barnes
    • Carnage
    • Wolverine
    • Venom
    • Killmonger
    • Shang-Chi
    • Knull
    • Death

    Black Cat

Black Cat cat Variant Marvel Snap
    Image via Nuverse

Black Cat isn’t actually a cat, but this cute new Variant turns her into one. Because it disappears if you don’t use it the turn it’s pulled, it can be really frustrating to play with. However, Hela makes good use of that by resurrecting cards that have been discarded.

Combined with Hela, Black Cat can shine well in Discard decks like this one:

    • Black Cat
    • Hela
    • Morbius
    • Lady Sif
    • Ghost Rider
    • Red Skull
    • Giganto
    • Infinaut
    • Apocalypse
    • Wave
    • Colleen Wing
    • Swarm

  • It’s Time For Resident Evil’s Most Unique Mode to Make a Comeback

It’s Time For Resident Evil’s Most Unique Mode to Make a Comeback

    [ad_1]

    Features

This is at the very top of my Resident Evil wishlist.

With series staple Mercenaries Mode returning to the Resident Evil 4 Remake, it’s time to remind fans of another mostly forgotten mode from the RE series. Reaching the second chapter in the 2012 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations unlocked something called Raid Mode for players to enjoy. Unlike Mercenaries, Raid Mode is not a time-attack mode and instead operates as a more RPG-lite version of the main game. While players are expected to try and hammer down on a handful of levels in Mercenaries, Raid Mode gives players a much more expansive game type to play around with.

This mode was included in ports released on the seventh and eighth generations of consoles and was part of Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which was released in 2015. However, the Revelations duology is the only time that Raid Mode has existed in the massive Resident Evil franchise, and that should change in some future release.

In Raid Mode, Players are tasked with defeating a certain number of enemies across a wide number of stages. These enemies have levels and health bars and can even have further modifications like size increases/decreases. Players earn XP as they go and can find better weaponry through weapon cases (or vinyl records) that will award a random weapon that players can equip if they meet the level requirements.

Similarly to Mercenaries letting players play as characters unavailable in the campaign, Raid Mode also offers that up in spades. You can take on the many stages as the series villain Albert Wesker or Umbrella’s special operator, HUNK. Each character behaves differently and offers passive upgrades to different weapon types. This keeps the mode fresh even after clearing through the same stages on a lower difficulty.

The biggest difference is that Raid Mode feels like more Resident Evil. It doesn’t necessarily feel like a side mode to the same degree. You are playing the same game in just about the same way, whereas Mercenaries mode requires playing the game in one specific way. Mercenaries has always felt like a mode to pick up for short bursts and a couple of shots at a high score. On the other hand, Raid Mode feels like a whole new campaign to enjoy that I probably put more time into in the first Revelations than I otherwise would’ve.

Mercenaries has been given room to change and adapt, and the version seen in the original Resident Evil 4 was nowhere close to the mode released with Resident Evil Village. It’s sad that a mode as complex and enjoyable as Raid Mode hasn’t been given the same opportunity and has been largely forgotten about in the series as a whole.

    Raid Mode Enemy

By this point, it’s almost certain a suitable Raid Mode return could even be a full game by itself, as Mercenaries got to be on the 3DS. I can easily imagine a higher-level version of Raid Mode just being a campaign option to offer a unique playthrough. I would certainly enjoy a Resident Evil 5 remake with the option to make the whole thing an RPG with looting mechanics just to continue selling how different a RE remake can make an older game.

I’m not saying we should do away with Mercenaries, but it has also been in seven games across the whole franchise, and Raid Mode has been seen twice. Getting to play Mercenaries in first-person in Resident Evil Village was certainly cool. Still, I can’t help but long for the potential looter shooter I could’ve gotten instead/alongside it. All I can hope is that whatever mainline game might come next will reunite me with the one mode I have wanted in every game ever since playing the Xbox 360 port of Resident Evil Revelations.

  • Top 10 Strongest Characters in Naruto, Ranked

Top 10 Strongest Characters in Naruto, Ranked

    [ad_1]

From space bending Taijutsu masters to godlike beings who first wielded the power of chakras, Naruto is an ever expanding story chock full of incredibly intimidating warriors. But it is curious to know which of these fighters sits on top as some of the most powerful characters in the franchise. In this ranking, we’re running through the top 10 strongest characters in Naruto.

    10. Kakashi Hatake

Even in the earliest days of Naruto’s narrative, it was clear that Kakashi was a step above his contemporaries. A wielder of the Sharingan, this sensei’s claim to fame comes in his vaunted Copy ability, which he uses to infuriate, bewilder and overwhelm his opponents.

His range of jutsu is broad and versatile, allowing him to strike from any distance he chooses to control the battlefield, and his unflappable nature keeps him cool and level-headed. He is an aspirational jack-of-all-trades with an enviably analytical combat acumen, which also made him perfectly equipped to deal with Naruto’s nonsense for all those years.

    9. Pain

    Pain Naruto Shippuden

The man formerly known as Nagato certainly didn’t have an easy childhood, and his tragic upbringing shaped him in more ways than one. He would rise to become leader of the Akatsuki, possessing a pool of chakra so deep, you would be hard pressed to find its limits.

Not only did he take possession of the Rinnegan, but he was able to wield it almost effortlessly, accessing a wealth of valuable Paths that make him a formidable fighter in any situation. His perception is peerless, and overall, he really just makes for a tough matchup for all but the mightiest of ninja.

You know you don’t want to mess with a guy whose adopted nickname is literally Pain.

    8. Obito Uchiha

    Obito Uchiha Naruto Shippuden

Obito is a close friend of Kakashi and the essential key to controlling the overly powerful Ten Tailed Beast. After being revived, he was used to pull off a plan in creating and controlling a monster that was so fearsome, it took all of the Tailed Beasts’ efforts alongside Naruto before they could put him down.

Even after Obito’s defeat, he used the last remnants of his power to give Kakashi even more of a boost. If you gave the main character this much of a problem, then you know might is not a problem for him. With this much monstrous strength held by one man, it is no wonder why Obito is in this list.

    7. Itachi Uchiha

    Itachi Uchiha from Naruto

Itachi slayed the entire Uchiha clan, so that he could stop a coup d’etat from their village from happening under the order of his superiors. This feat alone shows that Itachi himself is more powerful than most of his kin.

Itachi also possess a power that exceeds the Sharingan itself, the infinite Tsukuyomi. Itachi’s prowess with the technique has allowed him to alter the perception of time with ease within the Genjutsu to make a few seconds seem like many days as a means to torture the target.

    6. Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

Sasuke is the younger brother of Itachi, and the last of the Uchiha clan. He grew up driven by vengeance and the goal to become stronger to avenge his family. Throughout his endeavors, Sasuke only became more and more powerful, eventually unlocking his Mangekyou Sharingan, obtaining the Rinnegan and getting a boost of power to his already impressive Susanoo.

Even after his fight with his friend Naruto, losing an arm did not slow Sasuke down, but continued to improve more on his technique, fighting style and team strategy during battles.

    5. Naruto Uzumaki

New Four Episode Naruto Series Releases Later This Year

As the titular hero, Naruto is the main character and the eventual Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. Naruto became leader of the village despite his past actions when he was young — throughout the entirety of the series we see him progress from an obnoxious and impatient brat, to a well calculated and responsible warrior.

Naruto was already a pretty gifted Ninjutsu student since day one with the help of the absurd amount of chakra he possesses from the Nine Tailed Beast within him. At a young age he did not only master the Kage Bunshin No Jutsu but was able to use it to the hundreds and can easily overwhelm his enemies. Eventually as he grew, he learned numerous techniques like the various versions of the Rasengan, Sage mode and he was able to control the Nine Tailed Beast within him.

    4. Hashirama Senju

    Hashirama Senju Naruto Shippuden

You can’t base everything on a nickname, but when someone is heralded as the “God of Shinobi”, you can expect that they’ll be able to back up such a lofty title. A benevolent leader who would be anointed as the First Hokage of Konohagakure, even Madara himself fell short of Hashirama’s mastery when he was at his peak.

His adeptness in all things ninjutsu make reeling off his techniques an unwieldy proposition, but it is at least worth highlighting his access to Sage Mode, augmenting all of his abilities by instilling them with senjutsu chakra.

Had he gone down a darker path, perhaps even siding with Madara in his quest for power, the world of ninjutsu would have assuredly been brought to its knees. We can only thank our lucky stars that this grim timeline never took place!

    3. Madara Uchiha

    Madara Uchiha Naruto Shippuden

Madara is the big baddy who showed us what limits a single ninja can possess with the right amount of effort. Madara Uchiha was a friend turned foe by the first Hokage after trying to claim power over the Hidden Leaf Village which birthed the first Shinobi War.

That war alone already showcased Madara’s city levelling power before he was defeated. But during the fourth Shinobi War, after being revived By Kabuto, Madara gained new and even more powerful techniques like the ability to casually bring down two mountain sized meteors, a Susanoo that can casually slice mountains, create clones of himself that can use said Susanoo, and create a wave of forests in an instant. All that while having a Mangekyou Sharingan and a Rinnegan as cherry on top.

    2. Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki

    Hagoromo Naruto Shippuden

Hagoromo is the son of the first wielder of Chakra, and the first to understand it. Also known as the Sage of the Six Paths by his followers, he is the person responsible for spreading and teaching the ways of the Ninja.

Hagoromo was the first of many; he and his brother stopped their mother after transforming into a terrifying Ten Tailed beast by sealing the monster within himself and therein making him the first ever Jinchūriki. His exploits are the stuff of legend, and even when considering the wealth of talented ninja who have come and gone, he still stands the test of time as one of the most impressive warriors to have ever lived.

    1. Kaguya

    Kaguya Naruto Shippuden

After eating the fruit of the god tree, Kaguya obtained mastery of all five major transformations and is able to use Yin Yang Release. She also possesses the Byakugan on both of her eyes and a Rinne Sharingan on her third eye giving her the edge in almost every kind of situation.

With her gifts she used her powers to grant peace and end wars, and with this she was worshiped as a goddess. She did however become obsessed with gaining even more strength, years after giving birth to her two sons. She was outsmarted by her offspring and was then sealed away and remembered as the devil, serving as a grim reminder that even ambition should have its limits.

  • 3 Things We Expect To See in Fortnite’s Attack on Titan Collab & 4 Things We Want

3 Things We Expect To See in Fortnite’s Attack on Titan Collab & 4 Things We Want

    [ad_1]

    Features

Many possibilities, but really want a Titan skin, though.

While it was always known that Eren Yeager would be part of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, a new reveal has shown more to the collaboration. We now have more of an idea of the full scope of the Fortnite x Attack on Titan crossover, but there are still things we want.

With that in mind, we are here to bring you our ideas on what to expect from this collaboration and what we want.

    EXPECT: Survey Cloak Alternate Styles

The video Fortnite shared of Mikasa and Levi shows off their default look in their brown uniforms. However, the green cloaks are as much of the standard uniform as anything else. With that in mind, we expect the cloaks to appear as alternate styles for Mikasa and Levi. The Eren outfit in the bonus items mentions selectable styles, as well. As with similar types of gear, they should also include a hood on/off option.

    EXPECT: Armin Arlert Outfit

    Armin Arlert

While the only confirmed outfits that are part of this collaboration are Eren, Mikasa, and Levi, something still doesn’t feel right. There’s no reason to have just Eren and Mikasa available and leave out the trio’s third member. We expect Armin will most certainly be part of the final collaboration, and Epic Games doesn’t want eager players to know that ahead of time.

    EXPECT: Titan Swords Harvesting Tool

    Wielding Titan Swords

While the Eren bonus rewards include the Titan Strike Harvesting Tool, it’s not quite the same. The Mikasa and Levi video shows them wielding the swords used to slice open the necks of titans, so there is every reason to expect they will be part of the Item Shop bundle(s). If there are going to be any Harvesting Tools related to the series, it makes sense to include one of the most iconic weapons in anime.

    WANT: Armored/Colossal Titan Outfit

    Colossal Titan

We know we are getting at least three human skins in the collaboration, but we also need something for the other side of the wall. On a list of the most important figures of the series, the Armored and Colossal Titans rank pretty high. It only makes sense for there to be a skin based on either of them. If we must choose, we pick the colossal, but they are both cool.

    WANT: ODM Gear Back Bling

    ODM Gear

At the moment, the only known Back Bling will be the special key that Grisha gave Eren. It’s a really cool reference, but it’s not an integral piece of equipment that should be made into a cosmetic. The ODM Gear should also make an appearance as a Back Bling, especially if it isn’t included in any alternate skin styles.

    WANT: Eren Transformation Built-In Emote

    Eren Bite Transformation

In both the Dragon Ball Super and My Hero Academia collaborations, certain skins have a built-in emote for letting players power up to a different style. We want the Fortnite x Attack on Titan collaboration to include Eren’s Attack Titan form and let players change to it whenever they want. This also means the emote transition will be much more involved (the hand bite) but way cooler than the Super Saiyan transformation ones.

    WANT: Opening Theme Lobby Track

    Attack on Titan Opening

The first opening theme for Attack on Titan, Guren no Yumiya by Linked Horizon, is one of anime’s best pieces of music. The idea of getting to potentially rock out to that before dropping onto the island is something we can’t help but want. This one might seem a little unusual of a request, but nonetheless awesome.

VG247’s The Best Games Ever Podcast – Ep.46: The best game that features a 90s star

    [ad_1]

For all of its faults, the one thing you can say about Crime Boss: Rockay City is that Vanilla Ice is in it. Which reminded us of a thing that happened a while back: it was called “the nineties”, and it had loads of good stuff, like the Amiga, Fido Dido, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

But the nineties were a great time for personalities. Snoop Dogg. Pamela Anderson. Tony Blair. Loads of them. Chyna from the wrestling. The Churchill insurance dog. Bob Mortimer. I could go on. But it was a long decade and there were literally billions of people involved (George Clooney, there’s another one). The question we’re asking today is: what is the best video game that features a 90s star? As ever, the game is in how you interpret the question. To find out which game (and 90s ‘sleb) gets inducted into the VG247 Hall of Fame, you’ll have to listen to our podcast. Luckily for you, this is it here.

Just FYI, not a single person said Rise of the Tomb Raider, which would obviously have been the winning choice, given that it’s excellent, features possibly the most 90s star imaginable in Lara Croft, and represents a late 20th century new-media fusion of art and personality the likes of which we had never experienced before, but nowadays we take for granted because we have vtubers and Damon Albarn pretending to be a cartoon and all that carry on.

    Anyway.

Here’s an artist’s impression of Chris Bratt disapproving of 90s consumerism or something. You know how he is, always off on one. (Support friends of VG247, People Make Games, on Patreon).

Cast: Tom Orry, Alex Donaldson, Kelsey Raynor, and Jim Trinca.

Our picks this week (SPOILERS AHEAD):

    Tom – Football Manager 2021

Loads of 90s football players are managers now because of the passage of time.

Alex – Def Jam: Fight for NY

Loads of 90s rappers are media personalities now because of the passage of time.

    Kelsey – the Urbz

In the time since he feartured in The Urbz, Will.I.Am has gone from relative obscurity, to megastardom, to ITV. The best one of these is obscurity, probably.

“What is VG247’s Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask? Well, it is essentially a 30-minute panel show where people (Jim Trinca and associates) decide on the best game in a specific category. That’s it. It’s good. Listen to it.

Come back in a week for another exciting instalment of VG247’s Best Games Ever Podcast.
