  • World Of Warcraft Transmog Changes Spark Fan Backlash

    Days after hiking up the prices to transmogrify your armor in World of Warcraft, developer Blizzard announced it’s reducing them in half—a decision that came after overwhelming player outrage.

    The transmog fiasco started with the launch of the pre-expansion patch for World of Warcraft: Midnight on January 20. The patch introduced a plethora of updates to a number of the game’s systems, and the transmog system, which allows players to change the appearance of armor pieces for previously acquired gear without affecting their stats, was one of them. The transmog overhaul ushered in two big problems for the community: the new system is convoluted, and to make matters worse, it’s incredibly expensive. Or used to be, anyway, as Blizzard has already announced it’s dialing the inflation rate back.

    “We’re going to lower the cost of outfit creation prices by 50% to bring them more in line with what the prices were prior to the Transmog update,” community manager Linxy wrote on the Blizzard forums yesterday. “This price reduction is currently under development and should be available within the next day.”

    The change makes sense, as the new system has characters starting with just two outfit slots for their transmog creations. You can unlock more, of course, but initial prices started at 100 gold and ramped up to almost 800,000 gold to unlock all 20 slots on a given character. So, if you’re somebody who juggles five characters at once and you like to engage with the in-game fashion, having 20 slots for all five of them would cost almost 4 million gold. And this is all without considering the costs of changing the individual pieces in said outfits.

    Now, all of these prices are being halved. In addition, Linxy said the team is “going to try” to grant one free transmog to all player-characters soon, before patch 12.0.1. This should “hopefully” happen via a hotfix.

    The free transmog is also part of the response to community complaints. When Blizzard released the pre-expansion patch, all transmogs that were previously applied to gear were removed. As explained by community manager Kaivax on the forums, this was intentional to reflect the transition from a gear-based to a slot-based system. All previously saved loadouts are still present, converted to Custom Sets as part of the new system. The problem, however, is that it costs the normal amount of gold to apply the first transmog to your character, even if you only want to set your appearance back to the way it was before. Kaivax called this “an oversight” on the developers’ part, as players should be able to maintain or reset their existing look without cost.

    “With the 12.0.1 update before the launch of Midnight, all player-characters will be granted one free Transmog,” continues the response. “This will be automatically applied to the next outfit created for each character. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by first-time Transmog costs.”

    Pricing isn’t the only problem with the new transmog system

    While the pricing reduction is a welcoming change, it hardly addresses the only qualm that World of Warcraft players have with the new transmog system. The community is also complaining about the convoluted UX, as it used to be simpler in the old system, as well as the multiple added steps the latest changes require.

    “I think I’ve spent about half of my gametime playing dress up since transmog has been released as a feature,” reads a Reddit thread from a World of Warcraft player who says they’re quitting the game. “Now (…) trying to set up anything just fills me with apathy. Why was the icon selection and naming of sets downgraded for the ‘main’ transmog screen? The outdated all-in-one icon selection from classic, without search or prioritizing your outfit’s items is MASSIVELY more annoying than the previous transmog system’s auto-select that just went with the first item’s icon of your outfit. Also, 16 characters limit for outfit names is nonsense.”

    This account is far from the only one voicing such complaints. In the replies to an explainer by World of Warcraft enthusiast site Wowhead, people have posted multiple questions about the minutiae of the system. “I just opened up WoW and ALL my warriors look ridiculous,” reads one of the comments. “All the gear I’ve put on them over the years is gone and they look like noobs. I have lost over 2K gold trying to figure out the new transmog bs and when I check them out, they’re still in the wrong stuff. I’ve saved, I’ve bought a slot. I’ve only played WoW since it’s inception so yes, I’m older than most but this is ridiculous and it’s enough to make me want to quit the game.”

    Those on roleplaying servers are particularly impacted by these issues, as for many of them, transmogrification is particularly important to defining character identity, as well as adding to the immersion of certain events and actions. Say, for example, that your character is wearing a hood or a helmet, and you want to switch out to a scarf when entering a house. In the old system, you could open your inventory bags and select another transmogged item, switching it on the fly. Now, that individual item transmogging is no longer possible.

    As explained by a veteran roleplayer in the forums, people in these servers are prone to keep flavor items in their possession, such as cloaks to change depending on the weather environment, or a set of white gloves when a character needs to provide medical care for someone.

    The use cases are many, but unfortunately, the latest changes to transmogrification have introduced limitations. Instead of selecting an item from your inventory, you would have to pay gold to make a change to your current outfit, only to pay again once you revert it later. Plus, these actions take time, which can interrupt the flow of immersion during active scenes.

    “I am not a coder, I have no idea how difficult it would be to implement a system where certain items are exempt from the outfit that your character is currently wearing, but I implore you Blizzard, please find a way to allow us to make changes to individual outfit slots on the fly without having to engage with the transmog interface and shell out gold every time,” concludes the post from the roleplayer.

    World of Warcraft: Midnight is releasing on March 2. Whether Blizzard decides to roll out more changes based on community feedback remains to be seen.

  • Forza Horizon 6 finally returns to the wristband career mode the series has drifted so far away from: ‘You’ll start out as just a tourist in Japan’

    It’s hard not to make driving supercars through city streets or rugged off-road jeeps down muddy mountains fun, so it’s basically a given that every Forza Horizon game will at least be a good time. But, reaching an ugly peak in Forza Horizon 5, there’s been a frustrating trend to carve away at that feeling of career progression in favour of more freedom.

    You could immediately take part in almost any event and get a supercar in minutes in FH5. In fact, you could easily have a whole garage of supercars in no time—for free—thanks to the Wheelspin system. Not exactly what I’d call a career mode, and it quickly diminished any satisfaction from performing well to earn money and save up for your first fancy ride.

  • Battlefield 6’s first big map in months is coming to Labs soon, but I’m more excited about BF4’s Golmud Railway making its way to BF6

    Battlefield 6’s Season 2 was recently pushed back by a month to give Battlefield Studios time to polish up its content. Now, the developer has revealed how it plans to use some of that time, and the first port of call is Battlefield Labs.

    As discussed in the initial delay message, BF Studios wants the community’s involvement earlier and more consistently in the development of future content. This includes Season 2, of course, and a big component of what it’s bringing to the game is headed to Labs.

    The first Battlefield Labs session kicking off soon will focus on Contaminated, one of the new maps coming to Battlefield 6 with Season 2. BF Studios says the map falls between Eastwood and Mirak Valley, in terms of size.

    The blog post even likened it to Battlefield 1’s St. Quentin Scar, and Battlefield 5’s Arras. Although we’ve yet to actually play it, the size and description do sound really well, especially in a game as starved of big maps as Battlefield 6 currently is.

    Another thing BF Studios wants to test is the way ground vehicle gameplay and aerial presence interact with infantry combat, which is pretty standard for most Battlefield maps. Interestingly, there appears to be some sort of mechanic unique to Contaminated that the developer also wants to evaluate.

    More Labs sessions are planned, including one that will show off new gameplay tools and vehicles. The AH-6 Little Bird helicopter was specifically namedropped, which makes sense given that it’s going to be part of Season 2’s content.

    Battlefield Labs sessions will also extend beyond the biggest-ticket items of maps and vehicles. BF Studios said we should expect tests of upcoming features, like the Aircraft Radar, as part of a list of other air combat updates.

    Ground vehicles, and they way the various rockets interact with them, will also be evaluated in a different session, with specific adjustments planned for RPGs and TOWs. And, of course, the work to improve and perfect hit reg remains ongoing, and future tweaks will go through Labs first.

    There’s even more exciting news for fans of big maps, as the blog post also confirmed that Battlefield 4’s Golmud Railway is currently in the works, planned to go live in a future season. Golmud Railway will show up early in Labs, and you can expect it to evolve over multiple sessions.

    For context, when it does arrive in Battlefield 6, Golmud Railway will be the largest map in the game, which is saying something. Though the map is beloved by vehicle players, it has its issues elsewhere, and BF Studios says it will be looking at all that when it creates the BF6, emphasising that it won’t be a simple port of the BF4 original.

    Finally, the post throws a bone to Redsec battle royale players still waiting for a Solo mode. BF Studios continues to test the idea internally, but it’s taking a while. Needless to say, there are so many aspects that need to be considered. Game pace, balance, player survivability, match flow just to name a few.

    Redsec BR was built with squads in mind, so that task is extra challenging. Though the developer didn’t say when we can expect Solos to arrive in Labs, players will get a chance to experience it before it enters the live game.

  • Fable reboot devs aren’t trying to make a Lionhead game, but one important hallmark will carry over because ‘kicking chickens is classic Fable’

    Fable gameplay footage debuted at today’s Xbox Developer Direct, and despite a long 16-year wait between instalments the presentation felt very on brand. That’s maybe a little surprising, given Lionhead Studios closed in 2016. The new game is in the hands of Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, which has very little in common with the old Lionhead except for—perhaps crucially—its Britishness.

    In an interview published by Xbox, Fable game director Ralph Fulton discussed how the studio dealt with taking on a storied series from a once-venerated studio. “One of the things I said to the team was, ‘Look, we’re not Lionhead—we can’t try to make a Lionhead game.’ This has to be a Playground game because I’m a really firm believer that the personality and the character of a team is visible in the work they do and the games they make.”

    It’s almost time to leave behind Forza Horizon 5‘s Mexico and journey to a brand new country. Forza Horizon 6 moves the series to Japan, and it looks amazing! The new entry in Xbox’s popular car sim series arrives later this year, and we have all the useful info you might want to know about the upcoming open-world racer.     What is Forza Horizon 6?

    Forza Horizon 6 is the next installment in the Forza Horizon franchise. Unlike the more serious, sim-heavy Motorsport games, the Horizon titles are open-world racing games focused more on over-the-top moments, music, gorgeous locations, and arcade-y fun. This time around, Forza Horizon 6 brings the franchise to Japan, a location fans have been wanting for years. You’ll be able to explore the urban streets of Tokyo, the suburbs outside of the town, and plenty of open land and rural spaces far away from the city. And like in past games, you can choose to focus on big races to level up and unlock more challenges, or you can just chill, cruise, and jam out to music.

    What’s different about this latest entry?

    Beyond the new location, Forza Horizon 6 is shaking things up and swapping out the main character. In Horizon 6, you won’t be playing as the “superstar” racer featured in the last few games. Instead, you’re a tourist visiting Japan who gets involved in the Horizon Festival and all the racing and car culture. That means you have to earn entry to the festival and its activities and slowly work your way up from driving rust buckets to supercars.

    How big is the map in Forza Horizon 6?

    Very big! In fact, this is the biggest map that Playground Games has created for a Forza Horizon game. Forza Horizon 6 art director Don Arceta claimed in an interview that Horizon 6‘s digital Japan is the biggest map in the history of the series, and Tokyo is the largest city the team has ever built. And as you explore this massive location, you’ll fill up a journal, a new feature in Horizon 6 that helps you track everything you do and all the places you visit while playing the game.

    How many cars are available at launch?

    According to Xbox Wire, there will be around 550 cars to collect and drive in Forza Horizon 6 at launch. That number will go up over time as the devs add more cars to the game. As for the car on the cover of the game, that’s the Toyota 2025 GR GT Prototype.

    Can I play Horizon 6 online with my friends?

    Yup! Like earlier games in the series, Forza Horizon 6 supports multiplayer with friends as well as random players. And new to this entry, players will be able to build new tracks together with their friends. There will also be car meets you can hang out at with friends, and a location that lets players build their own personal home and race track. These are both new features for Horizon 6.

    What is Forza Horizon 6‘s release date?

    Forza Horizon 6 is launching on May 19 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and will be available day one on Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox is also holding the game hostage, like so many publishers. If you spend extra on the Premium Edition, you’ll be able to play Forza Horizon 6 four days early, on May 15.

    Will Forza Horizon 6 be available on PS5?

    Yes, but not at launch. Playground has confirmed that it is working on a PS5 port of Forza Horizon 6, but it won’t be available until sometime later in 2026.

    Wait, where are the goblins and magic and swords?

    Ohhh, you’re looking for Playground’s other open-world game, Fable, which is also launching this year. Sorry to have wasted your time.

  • “We all have strong opinions within the studio” – even Microsoft’s own game developers are hesitant to use AI

    Microsoft are telling the world that the sooner we all switch to using generative AI tools in our day-to-day lives, the sooner we will 10x ourselves. Yet the corporation are still only finding haphazard pick up by videogame developers, including some of their own studios.

    As executive producer Susan Kath tells me, the Elder Scrolls Online team haven’t yet found a part of development where they can use it. “Right now, we generally use it for things like this,” Kath says, indicating our call. “A lot of us get a lot of use out of Copilot, for meetings, for summaries, inbox organisations, stuff like that.”

    But, in the case of art, coding, or writing, generative AI is not something the team are using in Elder Scrolls Online’s development, and its adoption is still an open discussion within the studio. “I don’t know what our decision is going to be, because we’re still having conversations about where we go with that,” Kath says. “Obviously we all have strong opinions within the studio. Obviously Microsoft has invested heavily in this. That would be a thing that I would imagine we would talk about in the future.”

    Developer_Direct kicked off 2026 with new gameplay and developer insights for four games coming to Xbox, all of which players can enjoy this year.

    The development teams at Playground Games (who brought two games to the show), Game Freak and Double Fine showed off Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation, and surprise announcement, Kiln. Each brought extended new footage, looks behind the development curtain and, of course, information on when you’ll be able to play the games yourselves.

    All the games in our show are Xbox Play Anywhere titles, meaning when you buy them through the Xbox or Windows store, they’re yours to play on PC, Xbox console, or supported gaming handhelds at no additional cost – and you can pick up where you left off with all your saves, game add‑ons, and achievements.

    Launching this summer and available day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Beast of Reincarnation promises an unforgettable blend of action, strategy, and mystery. Game Freak gave us more details on Emma and her companion Koo’s adventure in a haunting, post-apocalyptic Japan.

    We learned that Emma has been afflicted by “blight” – which has removed her memories and emotions, but given her the ability to manipulate plants – and led her to meet Koo, a dog that’s become a “malefact.” Emma’s role is to hunt down malefacts, but she forms an unusual bond with Koo, setting her off on a journey through Japan circa 4026 AD.

    Game Freak call Beast of Reincarnation a “one-person, one-dog action RPG”, and have created a unique combat system to match – Emma provides classic, fast-paced action game attacks in real-time, but Koo offers added skills that can be used from a menu that slows time, more like a turn-based RPG. It makes for a game that offers a very different feeling to other action titles, adding tactical complexity to high-speed combat – which can be tweaked to your liking with three difficulty settings.

    The Fable team at Playground Games took us to the fairytale world of Albion, for the first in-depth look at the studio’s brand new open world action-RPG – and revealed that the game will be coming to players in Autumn 2026. Developed by a dedicated team at the UK-based studio, Fable is set to deliver everything players love about the original trilogy – choice and consequence, dry British wit and playful moral chaos – all reimagined for a new generation of players in an unmistakably Playground way.

    During the show, we learned how your story in Albion begins, how character customization will work, learned more about the game’s new take on Fable’s morality system and saw brand-new gameplay that showcased combat – with enemies old and new – as well as the game’s unique living population of NPCs. Fable will be a fresh new beginning for this much-loved franchise and will be coming Autumn 2026 to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, PlayStation 5 and Game Pass Ultimate.

    Forza Horizon 6 – Launching May 19, 2026

    Forza Horizon 6 is speeding towards players in 2026, with the announcement that the much-anticipated next instalment of the Horizon series will be landing on May 19 this year. As part of the Developer_Direct show,  the Forza team at Playground Games revealed first-ever gameplay showcasing the breathtaking landscapes of Japan in all their glory, and lifted the curtain on the spectacular cars that will be gracing the cover of the game – the 2025 GR GT Prototype, which is making its video game debut in Forza Horizon 6, and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.

    Forza Horizon 6 will feature the largest and densest map of any Horizon game to date, full of verticality, diverse biomes, seasonality and breathtaking driving experiences – all elevated by Japan’s unique car culture. And just when you thought things couldn’t get better, the team provided an overview of the new features players will enjoy as part of Forza Horizon 6 – including Customizable Garages and The Estate, an overhauled car roster (with 550 cars to collect and customize at launch) as well as new shared experiences, Drag Meets and Horizon Time Attack Circuits.

    Kiln – Launching Spring 2026

    We joined Double Fine in their game-turned-ceramics studio in San Francisco, California to learn more about Kiln, an Online Multiplayer Pottery-Party Brawler (say that ten times fast!), arriving this spring.

    Double Fine’s new foray into fun asks the question: what would it look like for a game to combine the beautiful expression of creation with all of the chaotic fun of destruction? Turns out it’s a team-based arena battle game which asks you to craft ceramic battle armor on a realistic pottery wheel, and where your abilities are determined by the kind of pot you make.

    We took a turn on the clay-splatted wheel to learn all about the 4v4 action of Kiln, the wide variety of crafting tools at your disposal, and what each size and shape of crafted pot means for your combat abilities.

  • Fable: Answering the Big Questions After that Long-Awaited Developer_Direct Deep-Dive – Xbox Wire

    The Living Population of NPCs is a fascinating addition – what does that offer the player?

    Fulton: The Living Population is our cast of over 1,000 NPCs, each with roles, personalities and routines. That whole concept of persistent NPCs, each of whom is unique in a whole bunch of ways that you can go and interact with and mess about with, is incredibly complex.

    When you start working on it, you realize that every settlement has to have enough houses with enough beds, for everyone in the settlement to go and sleep in at the end of the day. It was a fun day when we explained that particular requirement to our environment art team [laughs], but they rose to the challenge like they do with everything.

    In games, you don’t normally have to connect the dots quite so precisely. You know, you’re just building a nice-looking town. But in Fable it also has to be a functional town.

    As an example, early in development we couldn’t work out why one town was so empty during the day. And when we zoomed out into debug mode, it was because NPCs were getting up to go to work, but they lived too far away from their jobs. So, they started walking to work, but didn’t get there before their schedule told them to turn around to go back to bed.

    It’s required a lot of working through, but it pays off because, honestly, as you play the game, you get to know the names of the individual NPCs. You get to know what they like, what they’re looking for in a partner, where they live, where they work, all that kind of cool stuff. It’s an extra dimension to traditional NPCs.

    Does the Living Population tie into the main quest?

    Fulton: Tying the main quest and the Living Population together in a really overt way didn’t seem like the right way to go, so we’ve deliberately linked them in the lightest possible fashion. You know, there are some times when characters in the main quest will reference your reputations, or the things you’ve done previously – but we never want to force a player to have to go and interact with those things in order to progress the main quest.

    We know there are some players – we call them ‘Bards’ – who are just going to play through the main story. They’re going to start at the start, and they’re going to get to the end, and that’s going to be their experience. That’s entirely fine, that’s a totally respectable way to play.

    But there are some players, who we call ‘Architects’, who we know are going to go and mess around with the systems and just see where they can push them, see what they can achieve with it, and we want them to have the freedom to do that at any point as well.

  • Kiln, an online multiplayer pottery-party brawler, comes to PS5 in 2026

    Salutations, budding crocksmiths, and welcome to the world of Kiln! A game that we like  to refer to as a ‘pottery power-fantasy.’ It celebrates both Creativity and Destruction: the pleasure that comes from both making beautiful things…and then smashing those beautiful things to smithereens!

    In Kiln you’ll join a team of colorful spirits, and then you and your friends will face off against opposing teams in online arenas, where the ceramic creations you sculpt on a pottery wheel become the bodies you bring into battle.

    But before you can head into the fray to smash up the opposing team’s pots, you’ll have to create your very own ceramic masterpiece. And you’re in luck, because Kiln features a best-in-class pottery wheel simulation experience for you to make all kinds of vessels, each one just as special and unique as you are (and perhaps even more so).

    You’ll be spending lots of time in Kiln’s shared lobby, The Wedge. Here, you can practice your pottery prowess, decorate your pots, and then share your creations with others (and admire their handiwork, too).

    The first decision is an important one: how much clay will you use? There are small, medium, and large portions available, and each size comes with benefits and challenges, for example: small pots can roll much faster and squeeze into tiny holes in a map’s walls; large pots can block lanes or box in the enemy.

    With size decided, you can start letting your imagination run wild! Manipulate the clay with your cute little spirit hands, use tools to change the texture of your pot, and experiment with a variety of different shape archetypes —such as jugs, plates, vases, and more. Finally it’s time for finishing touches, chosen from a huge selection of pottery-themed cosmetics.

    ●      Toppers: We’ve got toad tops for your teapots, daisies for your vases, tiny umbrellas for your tiki mugs, and way, way more.

    ●      Spouts and Handles: Fancy a pour? From the traditional teapot to the terror of a tentacle, we’re sure you’ll find a spout that suits your ceramic. And if you’re not a spout enthusiast, perhaps a handle is more your style?

    ●      Charms: These bits and bobs attach in a pattern around your pot, and there are all kinds of attachments to try. You can add a line of subtle hearts, clovers, stars, or skulls to your piece, or you can get a little wilder with crustacean claws, sharp horns, or even gilded kintsugi cracks!

    ●      Glazes: This is when a good pot becomes truly great—a huge selection of glazes awaits for you to dip your piece into, including  glitter, gradients, patterns and more.

    ●      Stickers: Rotate, scale, and place your favorites onto your pot, and make that beautiful vessel sing with individuality! 

    If you’re hungry for more options at your wheel, you’ll want to talk to Slip (he’s the very cute dog running The Wedge’s customization shop). Winning matches earns you chips, and you can take them to Slip to spend on all kinds of new stickers, glazes, and more. Don’t spend it all in one place!

    The shape of your pots affect your attributes and your play-style. Are you big, or small? Wide, or tall? Will you make a plate, a jug, a cup or a bowl? There are 24 different combinations of pot size and shape, each with their own unique special ability. A small bottle can turn into a stick of dynamite and toss itself into the fray; a small plate can be whacked like a hockey puck into a group of enemies. Feel like wielding a chicken turret that blasts your enemies with high velocity eggs? Make a small chalice and go nuts!

    We’re excited for you to discover all the different abilities and how they impact gameplay, so we won’t give away every single combination…but let’s just say if you’ve been dying to transform into an exploding bucket of popcorn, a sword-wielding swashbuckler, or a pie for an opponent’s face, we suggest a medium amount of clay.

    Alternatively, if you love the idea of becoming an imposing figure on the battlefield with abilities like a spinning galaxy of doom or a giant cauldron filled with deadly brew to fling about, then slap the large ball of clay on your wheel and get shaping.

    For you and your allies to win on the battlefield, you’ll have to know how the game is played.

    The main mode is called Quench, it’s a fast-paced, 4v4 competition in which teams will need to work together to find the best combination of pots and play-styles, collect water inside their respective pots, break through enemy lines, and douse the flames of the enemy’s kiln.

    It’s easier said than done. Each map has its own series of interesting features and environmental events that can either help or hinder your progress, plus you’ll be fending off the enemy team from extinguishing your kiln, too.

    Does your team have what it takes to make and break your way to victory? As the battlefield becomes strewn with the shattered fragments of friend and foe alike, your brawling skills and some great teamwork will be required to assure victory. And don’t worry if you get smashed! That’s what glue and respawns are for. We’ll have you back out there splashing and smashing the enemy in no time at all.

    Out today in early access, Turnbound is a tile and turn-based autobattler about mythical heroes trapped in a haunted boardgame, where the starting player is chosen by flipping a coin bearing a picture of a cat’s anus. It’s saying a lot for Turnbound’s mellow, fairytale ambience and rich, rosy tile designs that I consider the cat’s anus a positive – a touch of whimsy, rather than just, well, that feeling you get when you’ve been flashbanged by a picture of a cat’s anus. Rare indeed are the videogames that contain a cat’s anus, and rarer still are the videogames in which the cat’s anus isn’t grounds for a refund.

  • Nintendo Announces Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch 2 Edition Release Date, Plus Elephant Mario and Captain Toad Amiibo – IGN

    Nintendo has just confirmed a release date for Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s expanded Switch 2 Edition, which will include a suite of new minigames and the ability to play as Rosalina, ahead of her big screen debut in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

    Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup In Bellabel Park, to give its full name, will arrive on March 26. As that extremely lengthy title suggests, the upgraded version of Nintendo’s 2023 platformer includes the additional Bellabel Park area to explore, which comes stuffed with extra activities.

    The Switch 2 Edition will be available to purchase separately, or existing Switch owners of the game can alternatively purchase an upgrade pack.

    Bellabel Park’s Local Multiplayer Plaza features 17 new co-op or versus minigames, with support for up to four local players (and yes, your pals can join even if they don’t have the game, via GameShare). Game Room Plaza, meanwhile, features six minigames for either local or online play — with the latter option supporting up to 12 players.

    A third area, Camp Central, features the adorable Captain Toad and his Toad Brigade, who set challenges based on existing courses. Complete them all and you’ll become an elite Toad Brigade explorer yourself. Lastly, the Koopalings are also back — having stolen treasure from Bellabel Park, you’ll need to search through the game’s levels and defeat them.

    Helpful additions to the game include Co-Star Luma, who offers a way for a second player to join in as an assist character, while Assist Mode lets you explore the game without fear of damage or falling down a pit. Handy!

    Captain Toad!

    Three new amiibo figurines will launch alongside the game on March 26: Elephant Mario, Poplin & Prince Florian, and Captain Toad & Talking Flower. Yes, Captain Toad has a dedicated amiibo figurine at last — and quite right too.

    Speaking of Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s chatty/annoying Talking Flower, Nintendo is continuing its plans to launch a real-life Talking Flower desk accessory. Available on March 12, this thing will spout out random phrases “roughly twice every hour” or when prompted with a button press. Holding down its button will mute it “for a while.” I have no idea why this exists.

    Pricing details for all of this are still to follow, as Nintendo’s pre-order links don’t yet seem to have gone live. We’ll keep an eye and update when we know more.

  • Samsung’s Nintendo Switch 2–Optimized microSD Card Crashes to Its Lowest Price at Under $0.16 per GB – Kotaku

    Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2, has already had a strong start. Since launching earlier last year, Nintendo’s follow-up to one of the most successful consoles in gaming history has rolled out several notable exclusives, including Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby Air Riders, and and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. While that exclusive lineup is still growing, the real strength of the Switch 2 at launch is its backwards compatibility. The full eight-year library of original Nintendo Switch games can be played on the Switch 2.

    That’s a lot of games, but unfortunately, you’re Switch 2 won’t even be able to hold a small fraction of them on its internal storage alone. Fortunately, Nintendo has once again made storage expandable via microSD cards—though not just any card will do this time around.

    Amazon is offering the Samsung P9 Express 512GB microSD card at 25% off. Normally priced at $120, the discount brings it down to $80, saving you $40 for a limited time. Additionally, the 256GB option is down from $55 to just $40, saving you $15.

    The Switch 2’s updated system architecture delivers improved performance and noticeably faster load times compared to its predecessor. However, that performance leap also means the console requires microSD Express cards to keep up with its faster data speeds. Older microSD cards that worked perfectly fine on the original Switch simply won’t meet the new standards. Express cards tend to cost more, which makes sales like this Samsung P9 deal hard to pass up.

    Triple Your Gaming Storage

    Out of the box, the Nintendo Switch 2 comes with 256GB of internal storage. While that’s a massive improvement over the original Switch’s paltry 32GB, the usable space is slightly lower than what’s listed on the tin once system software is accounted for. On top of that, Switch 2 games are noticeably larger than last-generation titles. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition, for example, takes up more than 20GB on its own.

    Adding a 512GB Samsung P9 microSD Express effectively triples your total storage, giving you far more breathing room as new releases roll out over the coming years. With that kind of capacity, you won’t need to constantly juggle downloads or delete old favorites to make room for the next big Nintendo release. I’ve still got my fingers crossed for a new Star Fox.

    Beyond the Nintendo Switch 2, the Samsung P9 microSD Express is also compatible with the original Switch, the Steam Deck, and Asus ROG Xbox Ally. Also it’s not just for gaming. Photographers have been using these for ages too, so maybe you’re just looking to take more photos and videos on your Canon. The deal is just as good regardless of what you plan on using it for.
