  • Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Development Paused, as GTA Publisher Says It’s ‘Incredibly Excited’ About Bringing Other Games to Nintendo’s Console Instead – IGN

    Borderlands 4 publisher Take-Two has said that development on the game’s Switch 2 version is officially now on “pause” following its last-minute delay.

    A Switch 2 port for the Gearbox looter shooter was initially announced during Nintendo’s big April 2025 Direct and then pegged to arrive on October 3, 2025, before its release was scrubbed just a week prior to launch. Pre-orders were cancelled, though Gearbox framed the move as a delay, not a full scrapping of the project.

    Indeed, the developer said it hoped to “align” its Switch 2 release with the addition of cross saves to the game — something which now seems to no longer be on the cards.

    Speaking to Variety this week, a Take-Two spokesperson has said that work on Borderlands 4’s Switch 2 edition was no longer ongoing, as Gearbox prioritized continued “improvements” to the game on its existing platforms.

    It’s a curious situation, not least because the game’s Switch 2 version got so close to release, and had been played publicly in demo form at various events last year, such as at Gamescom 2025 in Cologne. Opinion on the game’s Switch 2 demo was mixed, though Borderlands 4 has also suffered from technical issues even on the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X. The game’s Steam review rating has also suffered from negative comments regarding its PC performance, too.

    “We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU,” Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis told Variety this week. “Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game.

    “We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have PGA Tour 2K25 coming out and WWE 2K26 [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”

    That last sentence is intriguing, too — the suggestion that Take-Two may now be focusing its Switch 2 plans elsewhere. Could Nintendo’s console become home to GTA 6, which looks increasingly likely to make its late 2026 launch date? Time will tell. Last night, we also learned that GTA 6 will not skip a physical edition at launch, despite rumors to the contrary.

  • Fallout Season 2 Finale Teases New Location And Something Big – Kotaku

    Fallout season two’s finale might not have paid off all the various story threads this season set up, but it did tease a location rarely seen in the games and featured the reveal of something big returning from Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Spoilers below for the season in general and the finale episode in particular. If you haven’t watched it yet and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t keep scrolling!

    After two seasons of following the Ghoul as he searched for his family, Fallout season two’s finale finally brings him face to face with…their empty cryopods hidden deep in a secret Vault below Mr. House’s Lucky 38 Casino. Dang. But inside his wife’s tube is a postcard for Colorado, giving him hope that his family is still alive in the midwestern state.

    So off he goes on a new quest to hopefully find his wife and daughter after a heck of a 200 years. During the credits, a billboard reinforces the idea that next season will, at least partially, be set in Colorado. What do we know about Colorado in the Fallout universe, and what can we expect?

    Colorado In The Fallout Universe

    Colorado is a state that has been mentioned a few times in past games and Fallout media, but has rarely played a big role. It, like most of the rest of the United States in Fallout, was mostly wiped out by the nuclear bombs dropped during the Great War. Colorado’s biggest appearance in the games thus far happened in Fallout Tactics, a game that isn’t wholly canon, but parts of it might be (it’s weird). In that 2001 tactical turn-based RPG spin-off, we are introduced to Vault 0.

    Vault 0 is set in an expanded version of the real-life Cheyenne Mountain Complex, a large underground U.S. military bunker designed to survive nuclear war and other massive attacks. Exactly what happens in Fallout Tactics isn’t really important, but Vault 0 and the Cheyenne Mountain Complex could play a part in season three. We know the Enclave is still around, and it would make sense for them to hole up in something like that to hide away from the rest of the wasteland.

    Interestingly, as pointed out by PC Gamer, in the lead-up to Fallout season one, Amazon posted an hour-long video about the opening of Vault 33. And during the stream, an announcer says this: “Unless you’re the President of the United States or something like that, and you have a mountain in Colorado to go under and direct the events of the world.” And who did Cooper Howard run into in this season and hand off the Cold Fusion capsule to? The president. I suspect Vault 0 or a version of it will play a role in season three.

    One other interesting thing to note about Colorado is that the original version of Fallout 3 that was being developed by Black Isle Studios before it was canceled was going to be partially set in Colorado. Fitting that Colorado will likely play a big role in season three of Amazon’s Fallout show, given that it was previously featured in both the third Fallout game ever made (Tactics) and the original Fallout 3 (Project Van Buren).

    That Other Big (Wink) Tease

    After all the credits, Amazon included a post-credits teaser scene featuring Elder Cleric Quintus and Dane back at the Brotherhood’s Area 51 base we saw earlier in the season. Chaos is continuing there after Maximus took off with the Cold Fusion capsule. Anyway, Dane brings Quintus a scroll. He tells the scribe that Quintus the Unifier is no more. Instead, he is now Quintus the Destroyer and unrolls the scroll to reveal a blueprint for Liberty Prime.

    We technically saw what appears to be Liberty Prime earlier this season in a photo featuring Mr. House’s body double. But this is the giant democracy-defending robot’s first real appearance in the show. Or, well, he appears as a blueprint schematic. Close enough.

    This seems to be a new version of the big robot, named Liberty Prime Alpha, and is different from the mech that first appeared in Fallout 3 and later in Fallout 4. I’m not yet convinced this ragtag chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel is going to be able to create its own Liberty Prime. Perhaps it’s buried away in Area 51? We’ll have to wait until season three to find out.

    Fallout season two’s long journey has finally reached its end. While this season spent a lot of time following our heroes through Mojave Wasteland, last week set up the final stakes. The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) made his way into the Lucky 38 and reactivated Mr. House (Justin Theroux), Maximus (Aaron Moten) found his fight against the vicious Deathclaws bleed into Freeside, and Lucy (Ella Purnell) faced a moral dilemma as she came face-to-face with the mainframe of the Automated Man devices, which are now fully functioning thanks to her father Hank (Kyle Maclaclan). With all these storylines finally reaching their apexes, it’s time to dive into what choices our heroes made.

    The episode opens up with a bloody civil conflict amongst Caesar’s Legion. In the chaos, Lacerta Legate (Macaulay Culkin) manages to get his hands on Caesar’s corpse and drag it to his tent where he learns that his final will was for the Legion to die with him. Refusing this fate for the Legion, Lacerta kills the nearby soldiers and destroys the will, taking the golden laurels for himself. Officially crowning himself as the new Caesar, he unites the Legion and vows to march into New Vegas to establish a new “Palace.” This is met with thunderous applause.

  • Stardew Valley 2 continues to remain a hypothetical, but ConcernedApe did actually consider making it at one point

    You know, sometimes I wonder if Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone ever sleeps. At any given moment it sounds like he’s working on something, whether that be yet another update for Stardew Valley, or the definitely still in development, just wait a while you silly sausages, Haunted Chocolatier. And, as it turns out, somewhere along the line, Barone had even considered making Stardew Valley 2.

    Speaking in an interview with IGN to commemorate Stardew Valley’s impending 10th anniversary, Barone was asked whether or not he’d consider doing a sequel as opposed to more updates. “Yeah, I would,” Barone plainly responded. “In fact, I would love to because it would just be fun to work on a whole new set of characters, a whole new world, maybe capture some of that original energy that I had back in 2012, when I started working with Stardew Valley.

    “There’s something fun about the number of possibilities in a whole new world, which I think would be fun for me. It’d be fun for my team. We’d be really excited about it. It’s a bit difficult because people are so attached to Pelican Town and to the villagers in Pelican Town. I do fear a little bit that if it’s a whole new cast of characters, people might feel put off by that.”

    Barone also floated the idea of setting Stardew Valley 2 in Pelican Town again, using the same cast but with a new story, but believed he’d have the same problem as just setting it somewhere new. “There was a time where I was starting to work on a Stardew Valley 2, but, I don’t know. For various reasons, I moved over to Haunted Chocolatier instead. Haunted Chocolatier you could say is like the Stardew Valley 2, but it’s a bit different of a game, so we’ll see.”

    On making that comparison between Haunted Chocolatier and Stardew Valley 2, Barone noted later in the interview how he knows people are expecting his successor game to essentially be a sequel to the beloved farming game, something that weighs on him quite heavily. “That’s been a constant struggle is like, ‘Do I just do whatever I want and not think about the existing player base or do I try to please the existing player base?’ And I feel like there’s just going to have to be a little bit of a balance between those things.”

    The full interview is worth a read, as Barone is quite candid about a lot of his feelings and process towards Stardew Valley. Glad it’s him making the thing and not me, sounds like a nightmare.

  • Nintendo Switch Developer in Censorship Snafu ‘Legally Unable’ to Explain Why It Couldn’t Release a Separate Uncut Version, Like Cyberpunk 2077 – IGN

    The developer behind Dispatch — the superhero game that’s censored on Nintendo Switch — has said it is “legally unable” to explain why it is unable to launch an unedited version of its game in specific regions — as CD Projekt Red did with Cyberpunk 2077.

    Dispatch maker AdHoc Studio previously referenced Cyberpunk 2077 by name when discussing the development of Dispatch’s Switch edition, and said it had “initially assumed” its game would also be able to feature similarly “uncensored mature content.” Instead, AdHoc continued, “during the porting process it became clear that was not the case.”

    “This is the key point,” AdHoc added. “Nintendo has content guidelines. Our game didn’t meet those guidelines, so we made changes that would allow us to release on their platform. That’s what happened here. Honestly we thought this would be obvious since we’re the devs that released the fully uncensored version of the game on other platforms.”

    While AdHoc has stated that this explanation was obvious, it has not been able to explain why Cyberpunk 2077 released unedited in most countries around the world, while Dispatch did not. Indeed, many fans have called for Dispatch to get the same treatment, with a censored version released in Japan, where the country’s strict rating board has been blamed for not allowing the game to launch unedited.

    Now, AdHoc has responded on this point too — if only to say it is prohibited from explaining the situation in more detail.

    “AdHoc is legally unable to provide further comment on why separate SKUs were not possible for different regions,” the company said in a statement to GoNintendo, adding that there was “no possibility” for an uncensored physical edition either, and that it had no physical edition plans to announce.

    Last week, fans were shocked to discover that hit superhero game Dispatch had been censored on Nintendo Switch — where enormous black boxes cover nudity and even a character raising their middle finger. While an option to hide these already existed on other platforms, on Switch it is enforced by default, and cannot be toggled off.

    Yesterday, AdHoc apologized to fans and said it that its own disclaimer on the changes should have been more visible, and said fans had a right to be “pissed.”

  • Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot Should Resign, Union Reps Say

    Two union representatives for Ubisoft have voiced their belief that CEO Yves Guillemot should resign. This comes after a wave of layoffs, project cancellations, and studio restructuring that hit the company best known for Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.

    In January, Ubisoft announced plans to split the company into several “Creative Houses” dedicated to specific franchises. Internally, it also canceled several projects like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, laid off developers, closed studios, and implemented a return-to-office mandate. This has angered many Ubisoft developers, who are planning to strike later this month.

    In a recent interview with Game Developer, Ubisoft union representatives Marc Rutschlé and Chakib Mataoui placed most of the blame on the CEO and indicated they’d like a leadership change at Ubisoft. “I think Guillemot should move away at this point. I think the level of hate people have for him [means] he should move on. Then, we could build some sort of trust again,” Rutschlé explained.

    For most of us, Guitar Hero and Rock Band are just those gimmick games that were briefly popular for a couple years back in high school. But for some of us, it is life. The dream of peripheral-based rhythm gaming isn’t as long dead as you might think. The PDP Riffmaster wireless guitar controller is seeing a hefty sale on Amazon at the moment. Normally sold for $150, it’s now down 33%, saving you a whopping $50. That’s brings it down to an even $100.

    There are three models of the PDP Riffmaster wireless guitar controller, each designed for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo consoles. The controller is suitable for Rock Band games, as well as Fortnite Festival, though I’m sure there’s someone out there attempting to beat Bloodborne with this thing. Each model is officially licensed for the system its designed for. The Xbox one is also compatible with PC if that’s where you’re looking to play.

    If you’ve only ever played any of the Guitar Hero or Rock Band games using the controllers that came with the game, then you’ll find this one to be more closely resembling the Rock Band’s guitar controller. The five main buttons take up the entirety of the frets, and they’re also all duplicated higher up on the neck of the guitar if you want to switch up the way you play. The strumming trigger is also more akin to its Rock Band counterpart than it is the Guitar Hero one.

    Designed for Everyone

    The PDP Riffmaster wireless guitar controller is also designed for both righty and lefty guitarists, having a strap attachment available on both sides of the guitar. The buttons being the whole fret also support make playing righty or lefty feel more closely aligned. The strap itself is included with the controller as well.

    Built into the front of the guitar controller is both a D-pad as well as a traditional analogue stick for easier navigation. The analogue stick is actually built into the neck of the guitar, while the D-pad is found on its face, beneath where you strum. The controller even has integrated volume controls so you can adjust on the fly, mid-song. And of course, gotta have the whammy bar.

    Being a wireless controller, it works off a rechargeable battery. That battery should last you a solid 36 hours of playtime per charge. When playing, it has a 30-range of low latency wireless connection to work with, so feel free to rock out all across your friend’s basement.

    When you’re done playing, the controller can even be collapsed for both easy transportation and for more flexibility when it comes to storage.

  • The PC game releases we’re most excited about in February

    We’re still in a relatively ‘slow’ period for new releases, but February is when our list of upcoming 2026 games starts tossing in a few heavy hitters like Nioh 3 and Resident Evil Requiem. It’s not busy compared to years prior, sure, but I’m thankful for the free time when I look ahead at the schedule for March. We really need a monthly limit on MMO and RPG releases or something—emphasis on the limit if you’re combining the two.

    But until then there’s more than enough to hold you over, including the brutally honest survival game Unemployment Simulator 2018, and Edmund McMillen’s turn-based adventures about selectively screwed up cats, Mewgenics. He thinks it’s his best game yet, and Tyler may agree with him.

    PlayStation is kicking off 2026 with a special collaboration, a New Year “Love of Play” campaign that brings unforgettable moments to life, featuring KIM CHAEWON from K-pop idol group, LE SSERAFIM.

    This campaign unfolds through 4 episodes: Family, Friends, Sisters, and Solo. Today, we’re excited to release the very first episode: Family.

    Q. Do you remember the first game you ever played on PlayStation?

    “My very first console game was Stray on PS5! It’s a game where an adorable cat is the main character. The storyline is refreshing, and I loved the overall vibe and puzzle elements. The cat’s movements were so realistic that I felt like I had actually become a cat while playing.”

    Q. Today you got to try out many DualSense controller colors. Which color is your favorite?

    “I had no idea there were so many color options! Seeing and holding each one during the shoot, I thought they were all cool.” 

    “I can’t recall the exact name, but there was a purple shade with a subtle blue tint (Chroma Indigo)—it looked so elegant and stylish. Personally, though, I liked the black one (Midnight Black) the most. Its sleek vibe is totally my style.”

    Q. What’s the most fun PlayStation game you’ve played so far?

    “I’d say Astro Bot, which I played during today’s shoot! It’s probably the most fun game I’ve tried so far. The character is adorable, and I thought, Wow, this is the true charm of PlayStation.”

    “The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller blended perfectly with the gameplay, making the tactile experience unforgettable. I can’t wait to try more PlayStation games in the future.”

  • Magic: The Gathering’s Newest Product Says the Quiet Part Out Loud – IGN

    This morning Wizards of the Coast put a new Magic: The Gathering product up for sale with an unexpected twist. The “Prints Charming” Secret Lair drop contains four reprinted cards with pretty excellent new art – but rather than simply telling us how much it costs, it was given five different non-foil store listings and five more for the foil version, each with a different price ranging from $10 all the way up to $50. The product description on all of them is careful to point out the following: “The only difference between listings is the price. Higher-priced listings do not include anything extra.”

    This, by my estimation as someone who has been playing Magic since the 90s and literally wrote the announcement for the very first Secret Lair, is pretty lame. Taken graciously, it’s a goofy marketing stunt meant to do something silly and get folk talking about it, but it nevertheless leaves those who arrived too late with a very sour taste in their mouth. A more pessimistic reading would be that WOTC is price testing what people are willing to pay for a Secret Lair drop in broad daylight, shedding even the thinnest veneer that may be hiding the capitalist hunger a lawsuit recently alleged is designed specifically to hide shortfalls in other parts of Hasbro’s business.

    The reaction amongst the Magic community has been muddled. Some were confused. Some very generously assumed the higher price points were to bait automated scalper bots into spending more while real people could snag a more affordable version – an argument that doesn’t exactly hold water when you consider that they could just make them all cheaper if that was the desire. And some were just angry, either because the cheapest versions sold out so fast, or because they similarly see this as bold-faced market research in cardboard form.

    I actually really love the idea of Wizards of the Coast’s Secret Lair line overall. Directly selling small drops of thematically linked cards with cool and unique art treatments is quite fun, and often comes at little-to-no cost for those who just want to ignore it. Being able to give Kratos or Aloy their own cards without the production lift a larger product would require is a neat tool in WOTC’s toolbelt. The “Chaos Vault” moniker this latest one was released under intentionally pushes the envelope even further with weird, off-schedule ideas and one-offs that are explicitly meant to experiment. I dig that!

    But that does not mean Secret Lair is free from criticism. Most pressing here, folk (myself included) were already displeased by WOTC’s 2024 decision to move these drops from a “print to demand” model to one with limited and undisclosed quantities. The former system meant anyone who wanted a certain drop could get it within a specific timeframe, while the latter has historically meant you need to get in line right when a popular drop arrives in order to have a chance at purchasing it – something you can’t do if you, say, have work or school at the same time.

    Regardless of intent, the result is a majority of players feeling like they were the ones left holding the bag.“

    So, given there is already anxiety around the availability of Secret Lairs, one that got almost no pre-promotion offering an early bird discount (alongside the option to pay WOTC more money) is understandably frustrating. It’s the sort of thing that independent creators admittedly do with their products from time to time without drawing any ire, rewarding their most dedicated fans while also providing a way to support them even further for those who want to. But for a multibillion-dollar corporation to do it is not endearing in the same way – it comes across more like profit analysis wearing a sign around its neck that reads “it’s just a prank, bro.”

    Much to my dismay, both the lowest and highest priced versions of Prints Charming sold out the quickest, either lending some credence to the “ha ha stupid bots” theory or offering evidence that “speaking with your wallet” is and will always be a doomed suggestion. The standard Secret Lair pricing of $30 for non-foil and $40 for foil lasted much longer than the others, so it seems likely the “stock” for those versions was intentionally the largest of all the options. But even if that does make this one big stunt, or even a cute way to subsidize a few discounted drops through folk who are willing to spend a little more, the ultimate result is still that a majority of players feel like they are the ones left holding the proverbial bag.

    I don’t know, maybe I am yelling at the clouds. The card-selling company is experimenting with how much money it can sell its cards for. This should not be a shock, nor am I surprised to see Prints Charming sell out within hours (the art is really excellent, even if its total reprint value of around $5 is not). But the quiet part is being said louder than usual here. The teacher has handed us a test, and I fear what the results will be. The theme of this drop is cards that speed up your green resource production, and if that’s not as on the nose as naming your giant evil space station the Death Star, I don’t know what is.
