  • How to Design Devious Laser Tripwires with Rainbow Six Siege’s Newest Operator – Xbox Wire

    [ad_1]

    Summary

    • Operation High Stakes launches today in Rainbow Six Siege and is free to access.
    • Unlock Denari through the Battle Pass and use his throwable T.R.I.P. Connector gadgets to create lasers that damage and slow Attackers.
    • Here are some starter tips for using Denari’s gadget to create cunning laser grids and unleash his creative potential.

An ingenious new Operator is lighting up Rainbow Six Siege with laser tripwires that you can design and deploy on the fly, creating brazen barriers or sneaky snares that damage and slow any Attackers who happen to get zapped. The new Defender’s name is Denari and he arrived today with the launch Operation High Stakes on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. This new season also delivers modernized versions of the Consulate, Lair, and Nighthaven Labs maps, adding more-immersive lighting and strategically destructible items like gas pipes and fire extinguishers. Operator balancing changes, R6 Shieldguard improvements to game security, and evolving content for the 6v6 Dual Front mode are just some of the other impactful updates in Operation High Stakes.

But only one of those updates can cause you laser problems. To help you prepare to face this new threat or to inspire you to diversify your devious designs, we’ve put together a starter guide of different approaches to making the most of Denari, Rainbow Six Siege’s clever and creative new Operator.

    Concentrate Lasers for Maximum Threat

Denari gives you the power to turn any room into an EDM rave-worthy laser display. Attackers that touch any laser will take damage and suffer a temporary slowing effect, and this happens for every laser they touch, so a laser danger room with multiple potential points of contact is a deadly proposition indeed. Your opponents will need to deal with this threat, and herein lies one of Denari’s superpowers: making Attackers waste time. The more time they spend on dismantling your perilous party room, the less time they have to complete their objective.

Denari’s lasers are also a visual distraction: A handy side-effect of a room full of highly visible lasers is that they really grab the eye. And if an Attacker is even slightly distracted by danger beams, that’s an advantage for Denari’s Defender allies. Position yourself in such a way that a laser breaks up your silhouette and they’ll never see you coming.

Place Connectors in Easily Overlooked Spots

Denari likes his foes to know they’re on his turf, and the lasers created by his T.R.I.P. Connectors are easy to spot. Still, he can take a cue from fellow Defender Kapkan’s laser-triggered Entry Denial Devices and try to catch aggressive Attackers unawares. Denari’s lasers can be placed lower than Kapkan’s traps, so try a floor-level laser connection across a doorway. Make sure to position the Connectors wider than the doorframe itself so that Attackers can’t get an angle to shoot them. Connectors can be shot and destroyed easily, so keeping them out of your enemies’ line of sight is a must.

Don’t put Connectors too close to existing lasers: Denari’s lasers can destroy gadgets like drones, grenades, and his own Connectors that you place too close to them. Though it is tempting to stack lasers to maximize the damage your enemies take, you must be careful to not overlap them lest you lose a precious Connector. A tight little criss-cross of lasers can pack a mean punch, but is also more visible, so consider hiding it behind one of Denari’s deployable shields to give vaulting Attackers a nasty surprise. This tactic is a classic for a reason.

Beware the Single Point of Failure

Denari has a whole bunch of T.R.I.P. Connectors and each one is capable of connecting to as many other Connectors as it has line of sight to. As tempting as it can be to create a dazzling pinwheel of laser connections all emanating from a single Connector, all it takes is one shot to remove the majority of the threat. Consider a more durable example: four Connectors placed in a square shape will form lasers not just around the four sides, but crossing diagonally through the middle as well. When one of the Connectors gets taken out, the other three still form a triangular shape that is more than capable of obstructing an offensive push. Keep this in mind when attempting to criss-cross a key hallway or objective site entry: grids with redundancy built in can last longer, costing the Attackers precious time.

The Glaive-12 shotgun is great for making safer connections: Verticality is a great way to get even more redundancy built into your grid, and Denari has just the thing to help make it happen. His Glaive-12 shotgun sidearm – a new addition to Rainbow Six Siege – shoots destructive and deadly slugs that are perfect for punching holes in soft ceilings. Aim at an angle and try to destroy just the ceiling material and not the floor above, then throw a T.R.I.P. Connector into the gap between the metal beams to get both vertical connections and sightline protection.

Explore Gadget Synergies with Teammates Like Azami

The Operators of Rainbow Six Siege always shine brighter when they work together, and the dazzling duo of Denari and Azami is the perfect combo of creativity. Azami is able to deploy her Kiba Barriers to create new cover positions, patch over doorways or breach holes, and reshape the geometry of a room to her team’s advantage. Denari can use these barriers to hide his Connector placement, making his grids harder to destroy. Azami, in turn, can create new surfaces for Connectors to deploy on, opening up new potential laser angles. While Attackers attempt to dismantle these defenses, Denari can use his three-speed mobility to get somewhere the Attackers don’t expect him to be and use his Scorpion EVO 3 SMG or FMG-9 SMG to take them out.

Use the preview lasers to intentionally obstruct Connectors for a late-round surprise: When deploying a Connector, Denari can see a solid line where a laser connection will be made and a blinking line where a laser connection is currently obstructed. This allows him not only to troubleshoot the grid he wants to make (perhaps by blasting impediments with his Glaive-12 shotgun), but also to plan where a grid could be built if only a certain obstruction was removed. One judiciously placed Connector blocked by a Kiba Barrier could be ready to make several laser connections as soon as the barrier is broken. Wait for your opponents to push into the area, shoot the Kiba Barrier yourself, and watch the laser-fueled chaos erupt.

    How Do I Counter Denari?

In addition to destroying Denari’s T.R.I.P. Connectors with bullets, explosives, and melee, Attackers can use Impact EMP grenades (or Thatcher’s EMP for a larger radius) to temporarily disable the devices. IQ and her electronics detector can help you pinpoint connector positions, and when it comes to destroying the connectors from a safe distance, the drones of Twitch and Brava – as well as Zero’s Argus Camera – are excellent options.

Denari can counter Attacker gadgets: Denari’s gadget options include the deployable shield and the observation blocker, both helpful for blocking physical line-of-sight and drone/camera line-of-sight to his connectors, respectively. But when teamed up with Mute and his Signal Jammers, Denari has even more protection from drones, while Jäger and Wamai can snatch grenades of all varieties out of the air before they have a chance to cause trouble.

Denari has entered the fray, so watch out for lasers when you fire up Operation High Stakes today. You can download and play Rainbow Six Siege in free access for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, or play the Ultimate Edition with a Ubisoft+ subscription and instantly unlock more benefits, including 52 additional Operators. Denari can be unlocked today as part of the Operation High Stakes Battle Pass, or in two weeks’ time with Renown or R6 Credits.

  • Live-Action Call of Duty Movie Is Finally Official After Paramount Strikes Deal With Activision, Top Gun: Maverick Mentioned as Guiding Star – IGN

    [ad_1]

22 years after it began, the Call of Duty video game series is finally getting a Hollywood movie, thanks to a deal between Activision and Paramount.

Both companies issued a joint statement in which they said the partnership “aims to bring the iconic Call of Duty universe to life on the big screen, delivering an unforgettable cinematic event for fans worldwide.”

Unfortunately we know nothing of the movie itself, except it’s a live-action feature film. There’s no release window, director attached, or cast.

Call of Duty fans have for years wondered why the game hasn’t had an official adaptation, considering Hollywood’s love of war movies. Call of Duty itself is one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, with over 500 million copies sold globally. A movie would benefit from launching into an established audience and instant brand recognition.

Here’s the official blurb from today’s announcement:

Under this milestone partnership, Paramount will develop, produce, and distribute a live-action feature film based on Call of Duty, designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences. Both companies are committed to honoring the brand’s rich narrative and distinctive style, promising an authentic and exciting experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Here’s a quote from David Ellison, Chairman and CEO of Paramount, who said he’s a big Call of Duty fan who’s put “countless” hours into the franchise over the years:

“As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty this is truly a dream come true. From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I’ve spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don’t take lightly.

“We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve. I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand — thrilling longtime fans of Call of Duty while captivating a whole new generation.”

And here’s an additional comment from Rob Kostich, President of Activision: “Throughout its history, Call of Duty has captured our imagination with incredible action and intense stories that have brought millions of people together from around the world, and that focus on making incredible Call of Duty games remains unwavering.

“With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner who we will work with to take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment. The film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started. Our shared goal is quite simple — to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise.”

Paramount has form when it comes to successfully adapting video games. Its hugely popular Sonic movies have proved critical and commercial hits, but it’s worth noting Paramount also made the Halo TV series, which was canceled after Season 2.

And let’s remember that all we have now is news of a partnership. Hollywood is littered with the bodies of adaptations that were announced but failed to become a reality for whatever reason. This is an important first step, and perhaps the most promising first step a Call of Duty movie has ever had, but this is far from the end of the story.

Still, it’s fun to speculate about what the Call of Duty movie might look like. Will it go down the OG Call of Duty route and tell a World War 2 story? Or will it pick one of the stories already established by the Modern Warfare or Black Ops sub-brands? If so, will we see popular characters such as Price, Ghost, and Soap, or Mason, Woods, and Hudson? If we see those characters, which actors will play them?

The Call of Duty movie news comes ahead of the crucial launch of Black Ops 7, which launches this November amid what is expected to be stiff competition from rival first-person shooter Battlefield 6. To that end, Activision has U-turned on goofy skins for Black Ops 7’s launch, and will not feature a carry forward option for cosmetics.

  • Infinity Nikki’s latest update lets you build your dream home, and pal up with a Stardew Valley Junimo

    [ad_1]

Infinity Nikki has kicked off a surprising new cross-over with its latest update. The new patch, version 1.9, is live now, and heralds the start of a new season alongside the aforementioned collaboration.

You may have assumed that there’s already a lot of cross-over between Infinity Nikki players and Stardew Valley players. Infold Games clearly agrees, because the developer is teaming up with the farming simulator for this next event.

Patch 1.9 arrived in the game following the usual maintenance. Some parts of the update were available to download ahead of time through the game’s launcher. 1.9 is a fairly substantial patch for Infinity Nikki, not least because of the season it comes with.

Music Season is where the Stardew Valley collaboration lives. The new season is available until September 22, and as the name suggests, there’s music and rhythm games-inspired content here.

A Junimo from the world of Stardew Valley has arrived in Miraland, befriending Nikki. The two will take part in an adventure. Complete it and you’ll earn exclusive collaboration furniture for your home, and an outfit for Nikki.

    Watch on YouTube

The story of the update itself doesn’t actually revolve around Stardew Valley. Instead, it’s about Nikki coming across a brooch that belongs to the Evermelody Troupe, which sets her off on a quest to investigate. You’ll visit the Box Theater (haunted by a new enemy) as part of this, and even witness a live rehearsal.

Supporting all that are the new rhythm game mechanics, which include dancing with town NPCs. The update also adds the ability to transform into small animals to uncover clues around Miraland.

The big new gameplay feature in 1.9 is the ability to build a home in Miraland. You can create your own living space, with the help of Yardlings. This is available as part of the Set Off for a Warm Place quest, which will teach you the basics. You can save your home designs, and even share them with others using a unique code.

Before jumping in, make sure you check our updated list of Infinity Nikki codes for September.

  • Magic: The Gathering’s Spider-Man set is full of Spider-Verse Spider-Folk including the superhero identities of Peter Parker’s alternate-universe wife and daughter

    [ad_1]

It’s wild to think how influential Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions was. The actually pretty good videogame from 2010 gave us a meeting of four alternate Spider-Mans, though that wasn’t enough for one its writers, Dan Slott, who thought it would be better with all of them. That inspired him to write the crossover Spider-Verse, which in turn inspired the animated Spider-Verse movies, the live-action movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the character’s whole modern status quo where he’s part of his own multiverse of Spider-People.

Which includes Spinneret and Spiderling, as depicted in this preview card from Magic: The Gathering’s Spider-Man set. They’re from an alternate Earth where Peter Parker and MJ stayed married and had a daughter, Annie-May Parker, who developed spider-powers of her own. She became the superhero named Spiderling while MJ, thanks to a high-tech suit that lets her share her husband’s abilities, fights crime alongside her family as Spinneret.

(Image credit: Wizards of the Coast)

This is told in a series that began as a crossover spin-off called Renew Your Vows, focusing on the domestic life of this Spider-Family. The struggle of two constantly exhausted parents who are not as young as they used to be makes for a surprisingly grounded superhero saga, one where heroes still have to worry about having breakfast on the table for their kid in the morning. The least realistic thing about it is that a fashion expert like MJ would wear an outfit with those boot cuffs.

  • Lego’s Retro Super Mario World Model Gets Huge Limited-Time Discount At Walmart

    [ad_1]

Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi is on sale for 20% off at Walmart thanks to the retailer’s newly launched Bricktember Sale. The promotion is loaded with exclusive Lego bundles as well as deals on rarely discounted sets. Walmart’s deal drops the price of the 1,215-piece pixel art display model to only $104 (was $130). The Bricktember Sale also includes the largest Lego Super Mario expansion playset. The 1,392-piece Bowser Express Train is discounted to only $80 (was $120).

Last week, Walmart and Amazon both had the Super Mario World Lego set for $117. Only Walmart has the $104 deal at this time, but Amazon’s $117 deal is still active. Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi launched last October and is one of only a handful of Nintendo Lego sets geared toward adults that is actively being produced today.

Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi is one of only eight Lego Nintendo display models designed for adults. Earlier this year, Lego launched a 1,972-piece Mario Kart display model for $170. The elaborate build features Mario’s iconic red kart and the first realistic Lego replica of the character’s modern 3D look.

On October 1, exactly one year after Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi’s launch, Lego’s highly anticipated Game Boy replica will be available at major retailers and the Lego Store. The 421-piece display set only costs $60 and includes two buildable cartridges, three lenticular screens, multiple display stands, and several interactive features. Check out our Lego Game Boy preorder guide for more details, and keep in mind multiple retailers have sold out of preorders numerous times. Preorders sold out at Amazon in late August, but Walmart restocked the Lego Game Boy around the same time.

Lego Nintendo Building Sets for Adults

The most affordable Lego Nintendo display model is the 540-piece Piranha Plant, which you can find on sale at Amazon and Walmart for just $48 (was $60).

Save on the largest Lego Super Mario Playset

Lego Super Mario: The Bowser Express Train
Lego Super Mario: The Bowser Express Train

As mentioned, The Bowser Express Train is the largest Lego Super Mario playset by piece count. There are a few Lego Nintendo display models for adults with more pieces–The Mighty Bowser is the biggest overall with approximately twice as many pieces–but the 1,392-piece Bowser’s Express Train is considered a Lego Super Mario Expansion Set. Based on The Bowser Express level in Super Mario 3D World, this elaborate and well-designed build has four train cars, a makeshift station, and numerous interactive elements such as a spring-loaded shooter. It comes with six buildable Lego Super Mario figures.

Up until now, The Bowser Express Train hadn’t received any notable discounts–it almost always sold for full price–so now’s your chance to save $40 on this awesome Bowser-themed Lego set.

  • Final Fantasy 7 Switch 2 Hands-On: The Opening Still Hits So Hard

    [ad_1]

Final Fantasy VII has one of the best openings of a video game ever. The remake cranks that up even further thanks to the the mash-up of modern graphics and Nobuo Uematsu’s classic score. I’m pleased to report the magic is still there on Switch 2. Digital Foundry said it might be the best-looking port on the handheld hybrid yet. Nothing in my time with it led me to think otherwise. And man, does that first mission still hit.

For the uninitiated, the opening mission has a former corporate solider teaming up with an anarcho-terrorist cell to blow up a power plant that is helping to kill the planet. Combined with the slick hybrid turn-based combat, it’s a perfect tutorial that also sets the big-picture stakes for the rest of the adventure.

I briefly tested Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade at PAX West this past weekend and was relieve to see it doesn’t seem to be suffering from some of the issues that appear to be hindering other Switch 2 ports. Square Enix recently promised the newest version of the RPG would run at a stable 30fps with “smooth performance and crisp visuals” and my roughly 20 minutes with the opening mission backs that up. Even in handheld mode it performed well with no obvious visual shortcomings. The game still controls great, and after dozens of hours with Rebirth last year, I’d forgotten just satisfying those early moments of the first game look and feel.

    Square Enix

It’s worth noting that I didn’t have enough time to defeat the Scorpion Sentinel and make it out of the No. 1 reactor before it blows up, so I didn’t get to explore Remake Intergrade‘s more open and NPC-filled slums. It’s possible these portions of the game will strain it more on Switch 2. Based on that early section, though, it seems like there’s a decent chance the new hardware’s features will help it come out of the most demanding sections relatively unscathed. Remake Intergrade came out five years ago, but nothing about it looks “old” on Switch 2.

Will I go back and replay it once it’s out? Not without some sort of cross-save feature, which the Switch 2 version doesn’t support. But it’s neat that another excellent game will get a second lease on life with Nintendo’s new hardware, and it doesn’t appear to be cutting any performance corners in the process. There’s no exact release date yet but Remake Intergrade is expected to arrive sometime over the winter.

  • This 4-Pack of AirTags Is Selling for Pennies, Amazon Just Wants Them Off the Shelves – Kotaku

    [ad_1]

Apple is know for keeping its prices steady, and discounts on its most popular products are basically a rarity. Still, a little digging can pay off because Amazon sometimes surprises with deals you’d never see on Apple’s official store. Take this AirTag 4-pack, for example: It normally runs $99 directly from Apple, but Amazon has dropped it down to $69.

    See at Amazon

Why would you care about a little tracker?

Because losing your keys, backpack or luggage is frustrating, and an AirTag eliminates that problem with no effort. Installation takes as little as tapping it once on your iPhone or iPad, and you’re finished: it pairs up right away. Then you can slip one into your wallet, attach one to your keys or slide one into your travel bag. The Find My app is pre-installed on every iPhone and then shows you where your things are.

If you misplace them at home, the AirTag will even play a sound to help you find them. And if they’re out of reach, Apple’s global network of billion devices is behind the scenes helping guide you to them. That means if your bag is left at a café or your suitcase ends up at the wrong airport, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to track it down.

The beauty of this pack is that four trackers cover most of your daily essentials (and one AirTag usually sells for $29): One can go on your keys, another in your wallet, a third for your backpack and the last one for your luggage. Once installed, you barely need to think about them again. The battery lasts for about a year before you’ll have to replace it and it uses a standard coin-cell battery that you can buy at any store. Replacing it is seconds.

What’s also great is how well AirTags blend into the Apple ecosystem: If you already possess an iPhone, iPad, or a MacBook, you don’t need any additional software or tedious pairing processes. It is all managed with Find My. For locating when near and ultra-wideband technology gives you precise directions on your iPhone screen, leading you to within inches of what you lost.

On top of all that, this 4-pack has a solid customer rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars based on nearly 30,000 reviews. That amount of feedback suggests these are not a gimmick, and they are correcting actual problems. And for $69, you’re basically getting a little over $17 per tracker, and that’s quite a bargain for the added peace of mind the next time you’re running through an airport terminal or simply can’t keep track of where you left your house keys.

  • The Biggest Magic: The Gathering Crashers and Climbers This Week – September 1 – IGN

    [ad_1]

Magic: The Gathering launched Edge of Eternities last month, and here we are in September bracing for the release of Spider-Man.

Still, in the run-up to then, we’re still seeing some spaceship synergies (the set after Spidey) causing some market fluctuations, while now is a great time to pick up some Edge of Eternities cards.

Here are the big shifters for the start of September, as we prepare to swing into action.

    MTG Climbers This Week

There’s an awful lot of love for Landfall this week, and much of that’s tied to the Edge of Eternities World Shaper precon.

I picked one up in recent weeks and have been very pleased with it, but now I might have to add a big ol’ bear, too. Lumra, Bellow of the Woods has seen a huge jump, rising from under $10 to almost $30 in the space of a few weeks.

This not-so-cuddly bear mills four cards when entering, then puts lands from the graveyard onto the battlefield. Not only does that power Lumra up, but it could allow Tannuk, Memorial Ensign to dish out a whole host of punishment.

It also gives the World Shaper’s Hearthull spacecraft plenty of lands to sacrifice for card draw and damage pings.

Sticking with World Shaper, Valakut Exploration could be explosive, too. You can use it to exile cards to use for a big hit of damage.

It’s up to around $5, having cost barely anything just a few weeks ago.

Next up, I’ve recently spotted a surprising team-up between Sonic the Hedgehog and the Tyranid Winged Hive Tyrant. The latter is up to $4 thanks to synergy with the Blue Blur, with the card giving other creatures with counters flying and haste.

That becomes a nice cycle of triggering an attack with Sonic, adding counters to other creatures, and then having them get flying and haste. Then, you can turn that into Treasure tokens, too.

If you want to try this combo, have fun – Sonic is just $3 right now, while Winged Hive Tyrant is on the climb but still under $5. There’s a bunch of brillaint Sonic cards up for grabs right now as well, if you’re not keen on picking up the full Secret Lair set.

    MTG Crashers This Week

We’ve already mentioned him, but Tannuk, Memorial Ensign is a great card for aggressive landfall decks, and he’s down to just a 25-cent market value.

Given the synergies he has with the World Shaper deck and other cards we’ve mentioned here, that’s a steal.

It’s also not often to find an Eldrazi on the cheap, but Emrakul, the World Anew has seen a drop off in recent weeks.

This colorless 12/12 can gain control of opponents’ creatures and then sacrifice them, too. It’s a big cost mana-wise, but the dollar value has dropped to around $8.

Exalted Sunborn has dropped significantly, too. It’s still almost $20, but this flying, lifelink Angel Wizard (what a combo, by the way) is dropping a couple of dollars and could drop further.

Starfield Vocalist’s more expensive versions remain pricey, but the basic rare is down to $1.49. Given it gives you double triggers on ETB effects, it could be worth looking at.

Finally, The Seriema was one of the first cards revealed, and it’s dropped from $40 right down to $1.49 over the last month.

MTG Sealed Sets – Labor Day Deals

Final Fantasy - Commander Deck Bundle

Final Fantasy – Commander Deck Bundle

Finally (heh), we’ve been watching the price of the Final Fantasy Commander bundle over the last few weeks, and it’s just hit $175.

Given you’d have paid not far off that for a single deck not that long ago, you’re now essentially getting each for under MSRP at under $44 each.

  • Final Fantasy 14 director Yoshi-P daydreams of more crossover events with Evangelion, Gundam, and especially Diablo: ‘I love it so much that I would want to make a Diablo game myself’

    [ad_1]

Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida loves Diablo. He’s talked about Blizzard games several times over the last several years, including when he named Diablo as his dream crossover for FF14 two years ago. If you’re worried he’s forgotten about it, don’t: in an interview with Techradar, Yoshida reiterated that he’d like nothing more than to plunge Eorzea into the Burning Hells.

“I love Diablo so much that I would want to make a Diablo game myself, and I have huge respect for all the staff working at Blizzard, not only as a gamer, but as a developer,” Yoshida told Techradar. “So I really would love to achieve some sort of collaboration with them.”

  • NetEase shut down studio of Fallout and Star Wars alumni who were making an online sci-fi action game

    [ad_1]

NetEase have shut down T-Minus Zero Entertainment, a studio founded in 2023 by former BioWare developer and Star Wars: The Old Republic executive producer Rich Vogel.

The studio had been working on an online multiplayer sci-fi action game, with contributions from a number of ex-BioWare and Bethesda staff including Fallout 76 design lead Mark Tucker and senior producer Scott Malone. However, that project and T-Minus Zero Entertainment’s on-going existence are not a good fit for “current market conditions”.

  • Morrowind is being ported into Elden Ring by a modder, complete with the vast army of goats and female clones Vvardenfell’s always had

    [ad_1]

Remember when, back in the day, you made the trek through the ashlands to Red Mountain? Within, you encountered an unforgettable foe. “Come, Nerevar. Friend or traitor, come. Come and look upon the Heart, and Akulakhan. And bring Wraithguard… I have need of it”, they said. “Heed my words. I am Malenia. Blade of Miquella. And I have never known defeat.”

Okay, so maybe not, but it’s a nice image with which to open the news that a modder’s managed to port the entirety of Morrowind‘s landmass into Elden Ring. It’s still very much a work-in-progress, as you might expect given its version of Vvardenfell’s populated by copies of the same random woman and goats, but it certainly makes for a surreal watch.

  • Pokémon TCG: Full Release Schedule for 2025 – IGN

    [ad_1]

The Pokémon Trading Card Game shows no signs of slowing down in 2025. Whether you’re a competitive player, a casual collector, or someone who’s just dropped way too much money on framed booster art, this year’s TCG lineup is going all in with new mechanics, nostalgic reprints, and plenty of chances to chase that cardboard high.

Pokémon TCG: 2025 Release Calendar – At a Glance

    Mega Evolution – Sept. 26, 2025

Mega Evolution – Credit: The Pokémon Company

Just when you thought the Pokémon TCG had enough going on with Destined Rivals and Black Bolt and White Flare, in comes a brand new series altogether with the Mega Evolution sets.

Announced at Japan’s Championship tournament, the two new sets featuring Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex mark the popular trading card game stepping away from its Scarlet and Violet era.

    Where to Preorder Mega Evolution

Mega Evolution will release on August 1, 2025, in Japan, and September 26 in English markets (with more preorders also supposedly taking place on September 13).

Finding sealed products like these at a fair price is already a challenge. Some stores are holding MSRP, others are inflating prices, and secondary marketplaces have their own dynamics to keep in mind, too.

But the gist is: collectors who must have the ETB, Best Buy and Walmart are worth constant refreshing. If reliability matters more, TCGplayer is the most straightforward (though slighty more costly) option.

While we can maybe expect products from this set to be joining Pokémon TCG deals further down the line, huge initial demand will definitely see certain cards become price juggernauts among upcoming crashers and climbers.

It’s already shaping up to be a huge year, so here’s everything from the rest of the Pokémon TCG releases in 2025. And yes, IGN will be tracking all the preorder and buy links, both here and on socials at @IGNDeals.

Pokémon TCG 2025 Holiday Calendar – Released Aug. 22, 2025

    Pokémon TCG: Holiday Calendar (2025)

    Pokémon TCG: Holiday Calendar (2025)

The Pokémon Company started releasing annual holiday calendars back in 2022, inspired by the Pokémon Countdown Calendar from 2008.

These products are surprisingly good value in the current TCG market, as well as for casual fans of the series in other forms. You can see the listing here at Amazon or scroll on for more details.

The 2025 Pokémon Holiday Calendar released on August 22 and initially retailed for $49.99 at Target before quicklly selling out. It’s now available at Walmart for a pricier $64.99 or at Amazon for $69.

Black Bolt and White Flare – Released Jul. 18, 2025

Credit: The Pokemon Company / IGN

Scarlet & Violet: Black Bolt and White Flare are now available. We recently previewed the new sets that brought 156 Unova Illustration cards to Pokémon TCG, and it’s pretty good!

If you haven’t secured your boosters for Black Bolt and White Flare sealed products, feel free to try your luck at launch at your local brick and mortar or online, or even at Amazon right now.

Alternatively, TCGPlayer pricing for presale sealed product is crashing, so I reckon we’re seeing the usual price crash post-launch coming earlier.

What do I think of the set? I think it’s great and possibly the best opportunity to pull Illustration Rares in the Scarlet and Violet era, it’s ending on a high note.

Personally I’m not a fan of stuffing the set with Pokéball and Masterball rares, but in terms of quality and presentation they look cool. It would be grand to see Mega Evolution double down on the dual format and loads of Illustration Rares, but this is an encouraging sneek peek into what’s next for Pokémon TCG.

Black Bolt and White Flare focus on the 156 Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region. Each Unova Pokémon will appear as either an illustration rare or a special illustration rare card, with different versions available in Black Bolt and White Flare products.

    • July 18, 2025: Scarlet & Violet Black Bolt/White Flare ETBs (9 boosters, promo, accessories); Binder Collection (5 boosters, Zekrom/Reshiram album); Unova Poster Collection (6 boosters, Snivy/Tepig/Oshawott promos, poster); Unova Mini Tin (2 boosters, art/sticker card).
    • August 1, 2025: Tech Sticker Collection (3 boosters, Reuniclus/Gothitelle promo, stickers); Unova Victini Illustration Collection (4 boosters, foil/parallel/oversized Victini).
    • August 22, 2025: Booster Bundle (6 Black Bolt/White Flare boosters).

    Destined Rivals – Released May. 30, 2025

Destined Rivals – Credit: The Pokémon Company

Things really kicked off on May 30 with Destined Rivals. This set brings back Trainer’s Pokémon, reintroduces Team Rocket for another round of villainous fun, and includes some of the best card art we’ve seen in ages.

Destined Rivals top chase card prices are also finally stabilizing, making it a great time to snap some up. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex SIR has been going for anything over $450 since release, but is starting to settle on a more respectable $370.

A few weeks ago the Destined Rivals singles market was bouncing all over the place. Some cards were doubling in price overnight and it was tough to tell what was hype and what would hold. Now prices feel a lot more stable.

Some have dipped. Some Destined Rivals bangers are just cruising right at market. It feels like we’re finally seeing what these cards are actually worth.

Above are the ten most expensive cards in the set right now. A couple of them are legit strong in decks. A few are pure collector bait. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex was the hottest card in the set for a while and it’s still holding close to market. The artwork is what does it for me.

Mewtwo looks like it’s about to explode, floating in this dim lab setting with everything glowing around it. The ability makes it tough to use unless you’re running a full Rocket build, but once it’s active, Erasure Ball gives you some serious power. Definitely still a top-tier pull even with the market calming down.

What Cards Are Hot Right Now?

Scarlet and Violet 151 card prices continue to shift, with Charizard ex, Blastoise ex, and Venusaur ex SIRs climbing steadily thanks to standout artwork, competitive playability, and high collector demand. Charizard has jumped to $210, Blastoise is up 28% to $84.99, and Venusaur is up 27% to $69.99. Zapdos ex and Alakazam ex are also on the rise, with Alakazam seeing the biggest gain of 35% to $44.98.

On the other hand, prices for Kanto starter Illustration Rares like Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle have dipped as more product floods the market. Charmander is down 14% to $44.44, Bulbasaur is down 18% to $32.20, and middle evolutions like Charmeleon and Wartortle are following the same trend. While the final evolutions remain the most sought-after, now is a good time to pick up the earlier stages at a more reasonable price.

    Journey Together – Released Mar. 28 2025

It’s about time we got a set like this. Bringing back nostalgic Trainer’s Pokémon cards from the Gym Heroes era. N’s Zoroark ex and Lillie’s Clefairy ex end the chaos of endless secret arts for a more curated, collectible experience.

With just 16 Pokémon ex, 11 illustration rares, and three hyper rare gold cards, it’s easier to track what’s worth pulling without feeling like you need a PhD in pack odds.

Fancy snagging the Enhanced Booster Display Box with its bonus N’s Reshiram illustration rare or pull Iono’s Bellibolt ex? This set screams nostalgia with a new coat of paint.

    Rare Cards and Collector’s Highlights

If you’re into collecting, this set hits the sweet spot. It’s got 16 Pokémon ex, six unique illustrations rares, and just three hyper rare gold cards, which means you won’t have to mortgage your house chasing every rarity. And the artwork? Illustrating rares like N’s Zoroark ex will look incredible in your binder.

Pokémon Center’s Enhanced Booster Display Box is the one to grab for preorder exclusives. It comes with a bonus N’s Reshiram illustration rare card—a little extra flex for your collection.

What Makes Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together Special?

Various secret art rares and ex cards confirmed for Pokémon TCG: Journey Together on a pink to purple gradiant background featuring the enhanced booster box and elite trainer box.
Credit: The Pokémon Company / Creatures Inc.

The Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion is a nod to fans who’ve been in it for a long time. Remember Gym Heroes?

This set revives the much-loved Trainer’s Pokémon cards, spotlighting the bond between iconic Trainers and their Pokémon.

Cards like N’s Zoroark ex, Hop’s Zacian ex, and Iono’s Bellibolt ex aren’t just cool to look at; they call back to the late ’90s and early ’00s Pokémania. We’re all for that here.

What’s even better? This expansion ditches the overload of secret rares that made recent sets feel overwhelming.

Instead, Journey Together keeps things tight, making tracking what you want to pull easier. Whether it’s an illustration rare, a special art card, or one of those hyper-rare gold beauties, you can finally open packs without feeling like you need a flowchart to figure out what’s in the set.

    Prismatic Evolutions – Released Jan. 17 2025

Prismatic Evolutions, kicked off 2025, and it’s all about Eevee and its many evolutions. This set is doing things differently, which is probably why stock sells out as soon as it comes in.

This is another 151 situation, but there’s plenty of stock refeshes coming throughout 2025. You won’t find these cards in the usual booster packs.

Instead, they’ll be released in boxed sets throughout the year, each packed full of exclusive cards celebrating Eevee and friends. With over 175 cards, including unique designs and new game mechanics, Prismatic Evolutions is shaping to be a hit with collectors and competitive players alike.

    Rare Cards and Collector’s Highlights

For collectors, Prismatic Evolutions isn’t short on treasures. Each Eevee evolution has its special illustration and hyper-rare gold Pokémon ex card, making them must-haves for anyone building a showcase-worthy collection.

The set includes 32 illustration rares featuring detailed artwork for Pokémon ex and Supporter cards, so plenty of eye candy is here. With so many unique finishes and designs, it’s bound to make a few waves among fans.

Between the fresh artwork, inventive mechanics, and the undeniable charm of Eevee and friends, Prismatic Evolutions is set to be one of the year’s standout sets. Collectors and players alike will find something to love here, from stunning illustration rares to powerful new game cards that can make a real difference in play.

    What Makes Prismatic Evolutions Special?

Eeveelution Terestal ex Pokémon TCG from Prismatic Evolutions

This set brings some new gameplay tricks and visually striking designs. The big attraction is the debut of Stellar Tera Pokémon ex cards, which showcase Eevee and each of its evolutions with Terastal-inspired art.

These aren’t just nice to look at—they come with moves that need multiple energy types to activate, encouraging players to build balanced, flexible decks. And for the first time, Eevee’s ex card can evolve into other ex forms, giving trainers even more options to play with.

Collectors will appreciate some cool new reverse holo designs featuring Poké Ball and Master Ball patterns that pop on any card. And if you’re into rare cards, six ACE SPEC Trainer cards are in the set, limited to one per deck.

Each one packs a serious punch in gameplay—like the MAX Rod ACE SPEC card, which lets players retrieve up to five Pokémon or Energy cards from their discard pile. On top of that, Prismatic Evolutions features a mix of ultra-rare illustration cards, gold-edged rares, and special art that takes these cards to another level.

    Pokémon TCG Sets From 2024

Released on November 8, 2024, Surging Sparks was last Pokémon TCG Scarlet & Violet series main expansion for 2024.

Adapted from the Japanese sets Supercharged Breaker and Paradise Dragona, this expansion combines the raw power of electric Pokémon with the majestic strength of Dragon-types like Alolan Exeggutor ex and Latias ex.

With over 250 cards, including new ACE SPEC cards and Stellar Tera ex Pokémon, Surging Sparks has exciting new additions that will shake up the competitive scene and include some epic chase cards for collectors.

Beyond the headlining Pikachu ex, Surging Sparks offers a diverse range of powerful cards, including nine regular ex Tera Pokémon, 23 illustration rares, and six golden secret rares, making it a must-have for any serious Pokémon TCG fan.
