  • The Last Of Us Season 3: Release Date, Cast, And Everything We Know About The Hit HBO Series

    [ad_1]

Following the conclusion of The Last of Us Season 2, the show was nominated for 16 Emmy Awards, including Best Drama. The first season took home eight Emmy Awards in 2023, including guest-acting wins for Nick Offerman and Storm Reid.

Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal may have gone home empty handed from the show’s first night at the Emmys, but their respective turns as Ellie and Joel have given new life to the franchise that began as a pair of critically acclaimed video games by Sony.

Season 2 began the adaptation of The Last of Us Part 2, which introduced Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and controversially featured Joel’s murder at her hands. That fueled Ellie’s desire for revenge against Abby, which went horribly wrong in the Season 2 finale.

Ahead of the show’s eventual return to HBO, GameSpot has put together this guide to everything you need to know about The Last of Us Season 3.

Will Bella Ramsey return for The Last of Us Season 3?

The cliffhanger ending of The Last of Us Season 2 has some fans worried about the fate of Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, since she was facing the business end of Abby’s gun in the closing moments. Abby had Ellie dead to rights in a scene directly lifted from the game.

The resolution of that scene is in The Last of Us Part 2. Fans who want to spoil the narrative can always jump to the game to see how those events played out. But the short answer is “yes,” Ramsey will reprise her role as Ellie. She just may not be as prominent in Season 3.

Will The Last of Us Season 3 be all about Abby?

As seen in the Season 2 finale, the perspective of the story has shifted and flashed back to Abby’s first day in Seattle. Subsequently, it has been confirmed that Season 3 will be Abby’s story, and viewers will learn more about her just as players did when Abby took over the narrative in The Last of Us Part 2.

Who is joining the cast of The Last of Us Season 3?

For now, there are no new cast members who have been announced.

Is The Last of Us Co-creator Neil Druckmann staying with the show?

No. Neil Druckmann announced his departure from The Last of Us in July, citing a need to resume his duties at developer Naughty Dog to prepare the company’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Through the first two seasons, Druckmann was the co-showrunner with Craig Mazin. In Druckmann’s absence, Mazin will be the sole showrunner going forward.

How many episodes will The Last of Us Season 3 have?

Mazin hasn’t confirmed any episode counts yet, but he has stated that Season 3 will be longer than Season 2. The first season of the show had nine episodes, while Season 2 had seven.

When will The Last of Us Season 3 be released?

Although HBO hasn’t formally set a premiere date for The Last of Us Season 3, HBO content chairman Casey Bloys has suggested that the show is “definitely planned for 2027.”

Will The Last of Us end with Season 3?

Since there isn’t a third video game to draw upon and it’s unknown if The Last of Us Part 3 will be made, the story of Ellie and Abby will conclude when the show catches up to the end of The Last of Us Part 2. Previously, showrunner Craig Mazin said that Season 4 was essential to bring the show to a conclusion. However, Bloys has indicated that the show may wrap up its run with Season 3.

“Craig is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn’t been decided yet, and I’m following Craig’s lead on that,” said Bloys.

  • Resident Evil: Release Date, Cast, And Everything Else We Know About The Reboot Movie

    [ad_1]

For most of the last two decades, the Resident Evil movies were defined by the six films directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, with Milla Jovovich in the leading role as Alice. Those movies made over $1 billion worldwide. However, the 2021 reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, only earned $42 million worldwide.

Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger has been given the reins for a brand-new Resident Evil movie. After co-founding the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know and starring in sitcoms, Cregger has emerged as one of the most successful horror directors of this generation. His involvement with this project sparked a bidding war, which was ultimately won by Sony Pictures, the studio that released the previous seven films in the franchise.

Many of the details about Cregger’s Resident Evil movie remain under wraps for now. But GameSpot has put together a guide to everything we know about the Resident Evil reboot so far.

Who is starring in Resident Evil?

Austin Abrams is currently the only (probably) confirmed cast member for the new film. Abrams recently worked with Cregger on Weapons, and he has some experience with zombies from his time on The Walking Dead. He is also known for his role as Ethan Daley in HBO’s Euphoria.

Will established Resident Evil heroes appear in the film?

Cregger has indicated that he isn’t planning to use any of the RE heroes in leading roles.

“I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games,” explained Cregger. “It is obedient to the lore of the games; it’s just a different story. I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.”

“[Resident Evil is] an original screenplay,” added Cregger in a separate interview. “It’s a weird story. I wrote it and I love the story. It has nothing to do with any of the other Resident Evil movies. If I do my job, it will feel fresh and edgy and weird.”

Will the tone of Resident Evil follow the example of the previous movies?

According to Cregger, he hasn’t seen any of the Resident Evil movies. Instead of following their example, he intends to recreate the tone of dread from the games.

“I haven’t seen the [earlier Resident Evil] movies, but they don’t seem to promise that feeling [of dread],” said Cregger. “So I wanted to write a story that would just really lean into that. Honor the games–be true to the lore of what’s going on. But I’m not telling any of the stories of the games. It’s a separate story that just happens to exist in that territory.”

“If there are people out there who are rabid fans of the movie franchise, they are probably not really prepared for what I am going to be doing. But I think fans of the games are going to be stoked,” he said.

In an interview with Double Toasted, Cregger said his Resident Evil movie will be “true to the experience” of the video games, and probably “lives in the world” of Resident Evil 2 and 3, but that it adheres more to the tone of Resident Evil 4. The game is not a direct adaptation of any Resident Evil game, however.

Cregger said the video games, too, don’t have a set lore and aren’t rigid with timelines or settings. “I don’t think I am taking any more liberties with this [movie] than the game franchise does. I think I am coloring within the lines,” he said.

“I’ve never seen a movie like it,” he added. “I am beyond excited making this.”

The director added that his sense of tone and his general filmmaking sensibilities honed with Barbarian and Weapons will come through in Resident Evil, albeit on a bigger scale and with a bigger budget.

“It takes place in the world of the games, but most importantly, the journey you’ll have as a viewer watching this movie is going to be similar to the journey you have as a player when you play these games. What that means is it follows one protagonist from point A to point B as they descend deeper and deeper and deeper into hell,” he said. “As someone who has played I don’t know how many thousands and thousands of hours of Resident Evil, I just feel like I know how that pacing can go, and it’s inherently cinematic. I feel like there is a great movie that can live inside this world and inside that sort of pacing. I am really, really pumped about the story that we get to tell here.”

Finally, Cregger confirmed the shooting schedule for Resident Evil, saying cameras are due to begin rolling this October in Prague and continue through the end of January 2026. Why Prague? Cregger cited the city’s generous tax rebates and other factors. “It’s the right place,” he said.

When will the new Resident Evil movie be released?

Resident Evil will hit theaters on September 18, 2026, just a few months after the game franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary.

  • Command & Conquer successor Tempest Rising gets a big new update next week, adding massive 3v3 multiplayer matches and active pause to singleplayer

    [ad_1]

Tempest Rising finally broke the RTS curse when it arrived earlier this year, delivering a thrilling remix of Command & Conquer‘s classic strategy action, while also remembering to add proper singleplayer campaigns alongside its competitive multiplayer.

If I had one complaint, though, it would be that keeping up with the pace of its singleplayer could be difficult sometimes. While I generally approved of Tempest Rising’s balance between tension and fun, my reaction times aren’t what they used to be during C&C’s heyday, and having a little more time to think wouldn’t have gone amiss in some of its scenarios.

  • Snag 17 Lego Games For Only $15, Including Skywalker Saga And Batman Trilogy

    [ad_1]

Humble has brought back one of the most popular game bundles from last year as part of its Best of Humble Bundle series. From now until September 24, you can get 17 Lego video games for only $15. Many of the biggest franchises from Traveller’s Tales extensive catalog of licensed games are included in the lineup: Star Wars, Batman, Marvel, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Jurassic World, and more. All told, Lego Worlds Collide 2025 is valued at $499, while the 2024 version was worth $419.

All 17 games in the bundle will be instantly added to your Humble account as Steam keys, and the vast majority run wonderfully on Steam Deck. Most of the games have split-screen cooperative modes and are great adventures for parents to play with kids.

Part of the proceeds from your $15 (or more) donation go toward Raiden Science Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for the genetic disorder UBA5 and other rare diseases that affect children.

The Lego Worlds Collide 2025 bundle does have a couple of minor differences compared to last year’s iteration. This time around, you also get Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s Deluxe Edition, whereas last year the bundle included a coupon to get the game for 85% off. Additionally, the two Lego Harry Potter games are noticeably absent, dropping the total number of titles from 18 to 17. But you’re getting extra content elsewhere: Four of the games that were standard editions last year are now Deluxe/Premium Editions that include season passes with additional content.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The headliner is The Skywalker Saga, the newest game in Traveller’s Tales series. The Skywalker Saga broke from the familiar mold by offering large, open-world environments, an overhauled combat system, and a modern third-person camera angle.

The Skywalker Saga was the biggest and most ambitious Lego game yet when it launched in 2022–though we’ll see if that changes when Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight releases in 2026. And what we’ve seen and played so far has been quite promising. With that in mind, now’s a pretty good time to revisit the first three Lego Batman games, all of which are included in Lego Worlds Collide 2025.

  • Fallout 76: Pete Hines Remembers ‘Probably the Dumbest Thing’ He Did at Bethesda – IGN

    [ad_1]

Former Bethesda Softworks marketing boss Pete Hines has opened up about the Fallout 76 bag controversy of 2018, saying it led to “probably the dumbest thing” he ever did at the company.

Hines, who served as senior vice president of global marketing and communications at Bethesda before announcing plans to retire in 2023, touched on the infamous Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition during an interview with DBLTAP. The first true multiplayer Fallout experience came with too many issues to count at launch, but it’s the goodies promised with its collector’s edition that live with the former Bethesda executive to this day.

The company unveiled the pricey Power Armor Edition with the promise it would include a T-51B Power Armor Helmet, an exclusive steel case, collectible figures, and, of course, a canvas West Tek Duffel Bag. Players who picked up their copies upon the launch of Fallout 76 in late 2018, however, were surprised when the package included a cheap, nylon bag instead.

It led to quite the uproar from the Fallout community, which wasn’t enthusiastic about the idea that Bethesda may have pulled a fast one on the group of dedicated fans who paid $200 for the special release with only a small amount of in-game currency to show for it. It was a flub the company was quick to correct, offering fans an opportunity to request a replacement canvas bag by filling out a form by May of the following year.

Hines doesn’t remember this element of the launch of Fallout 76 fondly, recalling how his involvement in the contents of the Power Armor Edition led to one of his biggest mistakes at Bethesda.

“My first reaction was, ‘When the f**k did we add a canvas bag to this collector’s edition?’ Because the version I approved did not have one,” he said. “They were trying to add more value to the Collectors Edition. We were always fighting with the finance people about margins, right? I would throw shit fits around. ‘We cannot charge $300 for this, it’s f***ing insulting.’ But in this case, their hearts were in the right place.”

It’s probably the dumbest thing I ever did at Bethesda.

Hines continued, explaining that the decision to include a nylon bag came as a result of a canvas shortage.

“There was literally a canvas shortage, and some folks decided we’re going to do this instead. My biggest failing there was not pushing immediately for making and sending one to everybody that wants one. Because I was still annoyed that the damn thing was in there in the first place, and nobody had told me and that this canvas shortage happened. It’s probably the dumbest thing I ever did at Bethesda.”

Fallout 76 had a notoriously rough start but is generally regarded to be in much better shape these days. Bethesda has delivered an ocean of updates and post-launch content in the years since, with the CAMP Revamp update arriving just a few days ago. We gave the multiplayer Fallout game a 7/10 in our updated review last year.

For more on Bethesda’s history, you can read up on how Hines feels about gaming subscription services like Game Pass. You can also see what the former Bethesda executive had to say regarding the naming of Arkane Austin’s 2017 immersive sim, Prey.

  • Former Bethesda marketing VP says he fought against reusing the Prey name for Arkane’s 2017 immersive sim: ‘I definitely pissed some people off internally over that’

    [ad_1]

Arkane’s 2017 immersive sim Prey is a genuinely great videogame, with a genuinely weird name—shared with a pre-existing shooter and a famously cancelled sequel that it has absolutely nothing to do with. Arkane founder Raphael Colantonio said a few years ago that he really did not want to call it Prey, and it turns out he was not alone on that: Former Bethesda marketing and communications boss Pete Hines said in an interview with Dbltap that he was dead-set against it too.

“I definitely pissed some people off internally over that because I fought so hard against using that name,” Hines said. “I’m the head of the spear, but I had a lot of people across my team—brand, PR and community—and we feel like we’re burdening it with a name where we spend more time explaining why it’s called Prey than we do talking about the game.”

  • New Tron 3 Ad Features Mr. Beast And Folks, I’m So Tired – Kotaku

    [ad_1]

A new promo for the upcoming Tron: Ares features Mr. Beast in it and….*sigh* I’m just going to lie down for a moment. I’m very tired.

Why must Tron fans suffer? It’s a question I’ve thought about a lot. New Tron movies are rare. Tron games are often good, but nowhere near as plentiful as those for Star Wars or other brands. For years at a time, it will seem like Disney has forgotten it even owns the franchise, then it returns for a bit before going back into hibernation once more. I should, as a big Tron sicko, be excited for Tron: Ares. And I was, at one point. But not anymore…not anymore.

On September 5, Disney released a new look at Tron: Ares, but before anyone could get to the new footage featuring everyone’s favorite person, Jared Leto, we had to get a Mr. Beast jumpscare. Apparently, Disney thinks popular charity streamer and candy bar mogul Mr. Beast saying “Let’s do this!” in the most monotone and robotic way possible will help bring in the youth and make Tron: Ares a big hit. Instead, my timeline and most of the reactions to the ad show people giving up on the movie before it even arrives in theaters. And despite Mr. Beast not actually being in the movie, can you blame them?

The movie stars Jared Leto, which alone is a terrible marketing point. He’s a so-so actor who has been accused of sexual misconduct (allegations which he denies), and overall he just seems like a big creep. Then you have the plot of Tron: Ares, which seems to be built around the idea of digital beings from the Grid being brought into the real world. Meh. It’s neat to see a Lightcycle slice a police car in half, but leaving the Grid seems like a mistake. Now, the movie is being promoted by Mr. Beast. It almost seems like Disney is trying to pull a Producers-like stunt here and ensure nobody watches Tron: Ares.

I guess the one good thing to come out of Tron: Ares is the existence of some new Nine Inch Nails music. That’s cool. I like that. Even if the movie sucks, at least it helped push Disney to remaster Tron: Legacy in 4K and got us all some new NIN songs. So not a total loss.

The sad thing is, I’ll still be there on day one (that’s October 10, by the way) to see Tron: Ares because I love Tron and want more of it. “Let’s do this,” indeed, Mr. Beast. Indeed.

  • Civilization 4 And 10 Other PC Games Are Free On Amazon Prime

    [ad_1]

Another month means another batch of “free” Amazon Prime games. This time around, Amazon is giving away what I (and many others) consider to be one of the best PC games ever made: Civilization 4. Beyond that, you can currently grab the also-excellent Into The Breach for nothing and over the next week weeks, even more games will be available for Amazon Prime subscribers.

If you hop over to Amazon Prime Gaming and are currently subscribed to Amazon Prime, you can snag PC copies of Sid Meier’s Civilization 4: The Complete Edition, Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft Series, and Into the Breach. Then, throughout the rest of September, Amazon will add more free games, including Spelljammer, Pixel Cafe, and Tower of Time. Even better, Civ4, Spelljammer, and other PC games given away this month are delivered via GOG codes, which means once you claim them, you own them completely with no DRM. Now ain’t that nifty!

I personally think that Civilization 4 is the pinnacle of the series, even if former Kotaku writer Luke Plunkett prefers Civ5 over it. Yeah, some bits of it are a little tedious and annoying, but the vibes are immaculate, and most of it still holds up perfectly today. Plus, it will run easily on any modern PC. If you were let down by Civ6 or Civ7, check out Civilization 4. Just set aside like 9 hours of your day first, as it will consume them in a flash.

Here’s the full list of games, as well as when they will be available for free on Amazon Prime and which storefronts they use. Oh, and keep in mind these are all PC games; sorry, console-only players.

    Now available

    • Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft Series (GOG Code)
    • Into The Breach (Epic Games Store)
    • Sid Meier’s Civilization 4: The Complete Edition (GOG Code)

    September 11

    • Afterimage (Amazon Games App)
    • Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace (GOG Code)
    • Tower of Time (GOG Code)
    • Subterrain: Mines of Titan [(Amazon Games App)

    September 18

    • Residual (GOG Code)
    • Fate: The Cursed King (GOG Code)

    September 25

    • Mystical Riddles: Ghostly Park Collector’s Edition (Legacy Games Code)
    • Pixel Cafe (Amazon Games App)

Also, some games added in previous months are still floating around on Amazon Prime Gaming’s site, so if you haven’t grabbed those freebies yet and you’re a Prime subscriber, you should check out everything on the site. You may find a few hidden gems still waiting to be played.

  • Silksong And 3 Other Cool Games We’re Digging

    [ad_1]

Welcome to September! It may not officially be fall yet, but temperatures are finally getting tolerable and soon enough there’ll be pumpkin spice everything (which I unironically love).

I also love video games (contrary to popular belief), and so my comrades and I here at Kotaku are once again poised to offer up some great suggestions if you’re on the lookout for something to play this weekend. Naturally, we’re gonna talk about Silksong, but there’s also some killer science fiction in this edition of the Weekend Guide. Let’s get to it.

    Star Wars Outlaws

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Unsupported”)
Current goal: Get Kay Vess to say “Dank farrik!” about 17 more times

I played Outlaws when it first launched a little over a year ago, and I liked it well enough even then. Sure, I sometimes got frustrated with its insta-fail stealth missions, but I also loved the chance to just soak up the vibes in a backwater cantina, or crush my opponents in a game of sabacc. In the time since, the gameplay has seen many refinements and the story has been expanded with a few new chapters, and I’ve been curious to see just how much of an impact these changes would have on my experience. But to get the full effect of these revisions, I decided it would be best to start the game over from the beginning, and if I was going to do that anyway, I figured I might as well wait for the Switch 2 version for maximum comfort and convenience.

You may have seen the reports that emerged last week from PAX West indicating that Outlaws on Switch 2 might be very compromised, but now it’s here and I’m happy to echo many others in saying that it actually runs totally fine and is, if anything, a technical marvel of a port! With this, Cyberpunk 2077, and Street Fighter 6 all wowing me on Nintendo’s handheld, I’m starting to wonder why we’re not seeing way more ports of big games from recent years make the leap. But I’m getting ahead of myself, since I still have plenty of Outlaws left to play before I have to worry about what to play next. I’m too early yet to really say just how much the changes to combat and other aspects of gameplay may have impacted the game overall, but I’m already enjoying nonchalantly leaning on walls in cantinas again and taking in all that grimy Star Wars atmosphere. – Carolyn Petit

    Hollow Knight: Silksong

Play it on: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One,  Switch 2, Switch, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Verified”)
    Current goal: Beat Fourth Chorus

Stop me if you’ve already heard about this game before. It’s a Metroidvania Soulslike about constantly backtracking like you forgot to turn the stove off or lock the door, only the second you leave the house again you get killed and have to go back and collect all your shit a second time. Rinse and repeat for 30-40 hours, overcome some cool boss fights, get introspective about some random aside from a mysterious NPC, and you have the Hollow Knight experience in a nutshell. Based on my first few hours with Silksong, I expect it to be more of the same, but like you’re doing it all for the first time again.

And what could be better than that? How many amazing games are out there that we always wished could have gotten sequels that were the same but different? Chrono Trigger? Earthbound? Bloodborne? There’s something so satisfyingly straightforward about Silksong: here’s more of that thing you loved, without the tedium of replaying what you already know. How fitting for a Metroidvania. The very act of playing Silksong in the first place feels like backtracking! The biggest difference by far is that Hornet can only attack downwards while in the air at a 45 degree angle. I kind of hate it but that’s probably the point. The best games get us out of our comfort zones, even when a big part of their appeal is in returning to the familiar. – Ethan Gach

    No Man’s Sky

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Verified”)
Current goal: Get me one of those Corvettes

There’s an alternate reality where the only game I play is No Man’s Sky. But this realm of existence, sadly, saddles me with too many competing interests to dedicate all of my time to this wonderful space sim Hello Games has continued to expand over the years. Still, this weekend I will yet again reality-shift to that state of bliss NMS takes me too, as I’m really eager to see how much the recent Voyagers update changes the game.

Read More: No Man’s Sky Fans Are Doing Wild Stuff As The Game Hits A New Peak On Steam

Previous updates have certainly expanded NMS, but having your own ship from which you can skydive or teleport down to the surface changes a core mechanic that’s been at the heart of the game since 2016: managing fuel for your launch thrusters. Being able to just jump down to a planet to gather resources not only changes how you interact with these voxel-based worlds, but no doubt really impacts the entire resource economy in ways I’m eager to discover as well. And of course, I’m very into the ability to build some impressive and creative ships too, like this neat-looking thing that caught my eye on Reddit recently. The VR mode for the game has been tweaked a bit for the better it seems, too, and it’s been a bit too long since I’ve gamed with a headset on, so I’m likely to give that a spin as well. – Claire Jackson

    Metal Eden

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: Unsupported)
Current goal: Escape the Sand Trap

You might remember Ruiner as the gory top-down cyberpunk shooter about blasting people in the head to bring down a corrupt system. Well, eight years later(!) Reikon Games is back with a first-person cyberpunk shooter about blasting people in the head to bring down a corrupt system. Metal Eden is Ghostrunner meets Doom; a fast-paced, style-over-substance FPS about using spatial reasoning to decode the most efficient way to traverse a level, kill everything in it, and survive a wave-based showdown in a locked arena at the end.

I played and enjoyed the demo earlier this year and recently dipped into the finished game. It’s gotten surprisingly decent reviews that left me excited to see what the back half of the exceedingly brief campaign has to offer. The first couple of chapters feel like waking up into a hyper-violent dream at the end of the universe, light on details but heavy on vibes, more Equilibrium than The Matrix. I hope it can stick the landing, though even if it doesn’t it’s one of 2025’s prettier and more tightly calibrated Doom clones. – Ethan Gach

And that wraps our picks for the weekend! What are you playing?

  • Tetsuya Nomura Has Good News About Kingdom Hearts 4

    [ad_1]

Many, many RPG fans are patiently awaiting the next installment in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. And a lot of those people are waiting for Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s third and final installment, too. As you might expect, some are worried about how development is proceeding on these two massive Square Enix RPGs, and to help calm those players down, FF7 and KH4 director Tetsuya Nomura has attempted to reassure us all that things are going “smoothly.”

As reported by Gematsu, during Friday’s Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis 2nd Anniversary broadcast, Nomura hopped in toward the end after seemingly spotting comments in the chat asking about FF7 Remake’s third installment. While he didn’t have a release date to share, he wanted everyone to relax. The game is on schedule, okay?

And don’t worry, fans of Kingdom Hearts, Nomura also had a small update about the Disney RPG, which was first announced back in 2022.

“And this has also come up in the comments here and there, but Kingdom Hearts IV is likewise steadily moving forward according to schedule, so please look forward to it.”

While this is good to hear, I imagine a lot of folks want a release window for one or both of these RPGs. FF7 Remake’s third entry will be its last, as confirmed by Square Enix in 2022. We still don’t know when it’s coming, what it will be named, and what platforms it will launch on, though I expect PS5 players will be able to play it day one. Meanwhile, we’ve heard very little about Kingdom Hearts 4, though we did get a new, very low-res screenshot earlier this year of Mickey Mouse in a library. Hopefully, that and Nomura’s assurance that everything is progressing as planned will be enough for folks until the next update.

  • Mysterious Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube Video Spurs Fan Speculation

    [ad_1]

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t without its unsolved mysteries. Between the seemingly unsolved FF06B5 enigma and the lasting impact of cryptic quests like the Peralez storyline, plenty of cybersleuths are still hard at work on the streets of Night City trying to uncover the game’s secrets. Fittingly, A recent social media post by official Cyberpunk accounts has led fans on another strange quest for truth, and it centers a strange, unlisted video that, at first glance, looks to be just 24 minutes of uninterrupted static.

On September 1, 2025, CD Projekt Red shared an image of an in-universe recruitment message from Rosalind Myers, president of Cyberpunk’s fictional NUSA (New United States of America). Over at the decaying corpse of Twitter known as X, the official Cyberpunk 2077 account threw cold water on any notion that this post was a teaser for new content, clarifying that it was simply “part of an activity tied to the Phantom Liberty anniversary [the studio’s] celebrating this month.” But fans convinced there was something more to this message were on to something.

As documented by ArcticXWolf on Reddit, the binary of the image had a link that points to an image of a Roman coin. Using the anonymous messaging platform secretMSG, the link redirects to the unlisted YouTube video mentioned earlier,  titled “Secret Message from NUSA,” which seemingly contains nothing more than 24 minutes and 53 seconds of static. Despite my affinity for avant-garde works of art, even I don’t think it’s very pleasant to listen to.

Things get a little weird from here on out. Select frames from this video can be seen to spell out the words “FILES DETECTED CLASSIFIED.” Unfortunately, this seems to be the last concrete, provable thing anyone’s sussed out thus far. Some have turned to LLMs for help–which (shocker!) isn’t turning up anything meaningful. Others have pointed to a possible similarity between this cryptic static video and something apparently hidden in the Edgerunners 2 teaser, which may or may not have something to do with Cyberpunk’s space-exploration-themed conspiracies. And yet another well-read fan quoted the opening line of William Gibson’s classic cyberpunk novel Neuromancer:

“The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.”

Spooky stuff! The cryptic video remains unlisted and no social media accounts from Cyberpunk 2077 or CD Projekt Red actually seem to have given any more clues. Cyberpunk 2077’s stories are often at their best when there’s a mystery to unravel, so this is cool and on-brand. Now hopefully someone figures this one out, as well as whatever the hell the true meaning of FF06B5 is.

  • Star Wars Outlaws Developer Defends Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Cards, Says Cartridges That Force You to Download the Game Are Better For Loading – IGN

    [ad_1]

The use of Switch 2’s widely-disliked Game-Key Cards was defended by a Ubisoft developer who worked on the Nintendo port of Star Wars Outlaws.

Writing on social media, Ubisoft audio architect Rob Bantin shared the real reason why the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Star Wars Outlaws uses a Game-Key Card — a physical cartridge that requires owners still download the game, rather than including the full thing on the cart.

The answer? It’s all due to the Switch 2’s data speeds, and how quickly the hardware can read information from its bespoke cartridges, versus games downloaded to the console’s internal memory.

“[Star Wars Outlaws game engine] Snowdrop relies heavily on disk streaming for its open world environments, and we found the Switch 2 cards simply didn’t give the performance we needed at the quality target we were going for,” Bantin wrote.

The information has come as a surprise to some Nintendo fans who have previously grumbled over the use of Game-Key Cards, which are cheaper and therefore increasingly popular among developers of larger games which would otherwise require more costly cartridges with increased memory capacity.

“I don’t recall the cost of the cards ever entering the discussion – probably because it was moot,” Bantin continued.

While not a comprehensive reason for all developers to use Game-Key Cards, Bantin went on to explain that it was important for Ubisoft and its Snowdrop development team, especially as Outlaws was originally developed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S — console platforms that had faster SSD memory on board.

“I think if we’d designed a game for Switch 2 from the ground up it might have been different,” Bantin said. “As it was, we’d build a game around the SSDs of the initial target platforms, and then the Switch 2 came along a while later. In this case I think our leadership made the right call.”

Last month, Nintendo launched a fresh fan survey that quizzed Switch 2 owners for their opinions on buying digital games instead of boxed copies, and specifically asked for feedback on Game-Key Cards, following their less-than-stellar initial reception among fans who prefer their physical games to include… well, the full game.

First released last year to a mixed response and lackluster sales, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot recently blamed Star Wars Outlaws disappointing sales performance on the “choppy waters” of the sci-fi saga’s own fandom.
