  • Reality Eats Itself As Black Mirror Releases A Damn Memecoin

    [ad_1]

There really are few phrases in the English language more annoying than “This could be a Black Mirror episode!” But a popular television series which scathingly explores and satirizes the effects of technology on the human race releasing its own themed memecoin and accompanying Web3 platform? That bloody could. At the end, everyone responsible would be thrown in a volcano.

Meme-based crypto currencies were once the domain of tech bros looking to make a buck at the top of a pyramid who’d leave the worthless coins in the hands of suckers and move on to the next. Now, their reputation has somehow sunk even lower, with the likes of Donald Trump exploiting his acolytes with Trump Coin (currently worth a fifth of day-one peak, and almost a quarter of its launch price). So it’s just the perfect moment, years after anyone took them even half-seriously, for Black Mirror‘s production company to launch $MIRROR, a coin based on the show. Why? According to a GamesBeat article, “To reward Black Mirror fans for their loyalty.”

Banijay Rights is an arm of Banijay Entertainment, a mammoth television production company responsible for shows like Lego MastersBig Brother, Survivor, and indeed Black Mirror. It partnered with Web3 company Pixelynx a while back, with the intention to create a coin and run a bunch of Web3 bullshit like NFTs. The latter sold out instantly, with all 7,000 being picked up at $40 a pop in under three hours. It was suggested then that this deal could even influence future episodes of the show, but given Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker doesn’t seem the sort to countenance any of this crap, that sounded like a reach at the time.

Today the memecoin launched, albeit so recently that it’s hard to discern any sort of reaction. It also doesn’t help that there’s apparently another $MIRROR coin, and oh god who cares? (Well, the 237,000 people following the X account, apparently.)

But it’s not just a coin! There’s a motherfucking UNIVERSE, too. “The $MIRROR token goes beyond gamified engagement,” we’re told. Phew! “It’s a cultural token at the core of an expanding digital world that merges interactive entertainment, communities, identity, and social standing.”

Coin owners will be able to vote on covers for Black Mirror comic from Twisted Comics—and get this!—have the chance to put more money into more nonsense non-products by investing in “royalty streams from selected product launches.”

This is all apparently “inspired” by the Black Mirror episode “Nosedive.” The 2016 episode was about people’s ability to rate each other from one to five stars, in a society where your social status is constantly dependent upon how others have rated you. I rate everyone involved in this crypto bullshit 1 out of 5! I’m sure the episode’s writers Ras,hida Jones and Michael Schur, will be just delighted about all this.

God, there’s so much more rubbish around this, but you get the gist. That gist being: everything is awful and we should shut down society forever. It could be a Black Mirror episode!

  • Semiwork gets all mysterious about REPO’s new monsters ahead of the next update

    [ad_1]

REPO announced that a monster update would be coming at the end of October not too long ago, and have followed up with a video answering some of the questions players are throwing its way. Unfortunately though, if you wanted any sort of insight to what new monsters we can expect to face, or how many are being added, I’ve got some bad news. Semiwork will not be dishing out any information on how many monsters are coming, or their appearance, ahead of time.

In the most recent video Q&A, Semiwork’s Pontus Sundström says “just as the appearance of these monsters, we will keep the exact number of new monsters a secret as well. But I will say though, we are focusing on quality before quantity. We want each monster to feel unique, and different from all the other monsters. That is very important to us when we design and come up with these new ferocious beings that you will encounter in the next update.”

  • Borderlands 4 launch times come with a nice surprise if you’re on PC

    [ad_1]

We’re just days away from the launch of Borderlands 4, and Gearbox has officially revealed when – exactly – we’ll be able to play it. The full launch times schedule also has a nice surprise for PC players, who will be able to jump in a day early.

Though the game technically launches September 12, because of the way the launch is going to work on PC, Borderlands 4 is going to be playable on September 11 instead.

On PC, Borderlands 4 has a fixed launch time. What that means is that when it’s out for one country or region, it’s going to be out everywhere else, too. This is true for both Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

On PlayStation and Xbox, however, Borderlands 4 will unlock at midnight local time, which means some parts of the world will be able to play the game ahead of others, simply because of how time zones work.

This is good news for players on PC, who will effectively be playing on September 11. For some, that unlock time falls fairly earlier in the day than others. This is admittedly going to make things a little awkward if some of your friends are getting the game on console (Borderlands 4 supports cross-play), but that’s only really something you have to worry about on launch day.

  • Ammo and Oxygen Free Download – WorldofPCGames

    [ad_1]

    Ammo and Oxygen Direct Download:

A mix of roguelike shooter and survival on an unknown planet, featuring persistent progress and a cozy hub. Attempt to unravel the mysteries of what has happened by exploring stations, dungeons, canyons, swamps, and permafrost, while battling alien creatures. Adrenaline shooter. Each enemy is a mortal danger. Caution, reaction and aim are as important as a saved ammo and an extra explosion that raises the alarm in the den of creatures. At night it’s more dangerous. Survival with elements of horror. Stock up on oxygen, flashlight batteries and ammo in advance to have a chance of surviving another night. Wide range of weapons and equipment. Pistols, assault rifles, shotguns, machine guns, grenade launchers, katanas, night vision, energy shields, sound absorption, weapon upgrades and more. Tokyo Underground Killer

Combos and progression. Recipes for unique weapons. Enhancements that transform your character. Shops and secret rooms throughout the levels. Weapon upgrades in the hub. Solo or co-op up to 4 players. Play shoulder to shoulder, protect your teammates’ rear and share resources. This is a good roguelike, quite original. I liked the low entry threshold; you can start even without a tutorial. We played in three through sharing, though there were occasional inconvenient delays (which are unavoidable for this type of game).

    Features and System Requirements:

    • Resource scarcity is central: you must stock up on oxygen, ammunition, and flashlight batteries before nightfall, as darkness significantly amplifies the threat level.
    • Weapons and gear can be enhanced and customized—unlock weapon recipes, earn upgrades, discover secret shops and hidden rooms, and retool your loadouts back at the hub.
    • Your hub serves as a safe haven—use it for weapon upgrades, crafting unique gear, and progressing between runs with a sense of persistence and growth.

  • ‘Solid as a paper Whopper wrapper in the rain’: Hackers reported ‘catastrophic’ cybersecurity flaws at Burger King before the fast food giant nuked their criticism off the ‘net via DMCA

    [ad_1]

As reported by Tom’s Hardware, a pair of hackers successfully compromised the cybersecurity of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), which owns Burger King, Popeyes, and Tim Hortons. They uncovered “catastrophic” vulnerabilities so bad it led the hackers to comment, “We’re not even mad, just impressed by the commitment to terrible security practices.”

Those “terrible security practices” were alarmingly extensive. The hackers were able to:

    • Easily access RBI’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) systems.
    • Create new user accounts.
    • Promote themselves to admin status.
    • Access employees’ personal information.
    • Order store equipment.
    • Add and manage stores.
    • Access store tablet interfaces.
    • Access voice recordings of customers ordering at the drive-thru—which the pair allege are being used to train an AI model.

  • ‘Criticism Isn’t Hate’ — Hollow Knight: Silksong Sparks Debate About Difficulty, Runbacks, and the Dreaded ‘Git Gud’ Comments – IGN

    [ad_1]

With Hollow Knight: Silksong’s huge launch in full swing, community debate about its qualities and flaws has gone back and forth, with some players insisting their criticisms about things like the game’s difficulty are valid and shouldn’t be instantly dismissed as “hate.”

Silksong launched over six years after it was announced amid huge excitement, and early indications are that it’s a critical and commercial success. At the time of this article’s publication, the Steam concurrent player count was over half a million, with English language user reviews sat on a ‘Very Positive’ rating.

However, as more players work their way through the game, some are expressing criticism across social media, subreddits, Discords, and Steam reviews. Most of this criticism revolves around Silksong’s difficulty scaling, which is causing players problems, and brutal runbacks. There’s even one very early miniboss causing a lot of players a whole heap of trouble, too.

“Is it just me, or are some of the things that make Silksong ‘difficult’ just cruel?” wondered redditor Machi-Ato.

“The game has artificially inflated difficulty and playtime due to overtuned numbers and menial tasks/runback,” reads a post on Steam.

It’s the reaction to these sorts of criticisms that has sparked a debate within the gaming community. Take that Steam post, for example. “Maybe you just got older and your skills have declined,” is the first response.

“It’s okay that Silksong is hard,” declared redditor jacked-deMamp in a thread upvoted 1,400 times. “It’s already getting old seeing that every other post online about this game is someone complaining about the difficulty, especially when there are so many incredible things to talk about like the quest system and the new mechanics.

“The amount of love Team Cherry put into this game is insane and you can feel it when you play, I wish people would get over the fact that it’s challenging because there’s nothing you can do about it other than get better. The game is finally out, and it’s hard – just like the original. I personally love that the mechanics are so different and require a lot of learning again, because after playing hundreds of hours of HK I didn’t want to just breeze through Silksong.

“I think we just need to realize the game is the way it is and cherish these early days with a very special piece of art. It’s okay to get frustrated but don’t make those feelings overshadow how great of an experience this game is.”

This sentiment has pushed the debate even further, with some players pushing back against the “git gud” and “skill issue” comments to insist it’s perfectly fine to point out flaws in Silksong, however, beloved and important a release it may be.

“Criticism isn't hate,” countered redditor bboy2812 in a thread upvoted 5,200 times. “Most of the criticism I've seen on here and the Steam discussions is consistently dismissed as hate. Bad rosary economy, insane difficulty scaling, very few meaningful unlocks/upgrades, runbacks, locked into fighting bosses, contact damage stacking with normal hits, etc.

“The only ‘hate’ I've seen are from people who spam ‘git gud’ and ‘skill issue’ whenever they encounter valid complaints against their perfect little game that cannot possibly have anything wrong with it.”

If this sounds familiar, it’s perhaps because we’ve been through this sort of debate multiple times before with FromSoftware’s Souls games. The typical ‘Souls Cycle’ usually kicks off with adulation, followed by complaints the game is too hard, then more insight into why they’re too hard, then the ‘git gud’ accusations. Silksong, it seems, is following the same path.

Meanwhile, the debate about Silksong’s difficulty shows no sign of slowing down, which you’d expect for a game so popular. Thankfully, IGN is here to help. Here's how to unlock and use the map, how to get Rosary Beads, Achievements and Trophies list, and our ever expanding Silksong Interactive Map. Also, you may need the Bell Beast boss fight guide. • RoadCraft introduces a free hard mode for all you SnowRunner sickos, adding limited fuel, more challenging convoy simulation and realistic gearboxes

    [ad_1]

RoadCraft proved a surprisingly controversial entry in Saber Interactive’s series of grungy vehicle sims after launching in May. It expanded upon SnowRunner’s logistics simulation with systems like convoy automation and an emphasis on constructing road networks (hence the name). But these bigger features came at the cost of a more simplistic driving model, leaving players who preferred the stern navigational challenge of SnowRunner put out.

Now, though, Saber has released an update to RoadCraft that folds some of that driving complexity back in. Or at least, it gives players the option to reinstate it themselves if they so choose. The update adds a “hard mode” to RoadCraft in the form of several difficulty modifiers, each of which can be toggled on or off depending on how granular you want the experience to be.

  • The Sunday Papers

    [ad_1]

Sundays are for realising that the smell you can smell is that smell. That smell which smells. And how does it smell? It smells smelly. You open the door, and there they are. Anchovies. All waiting to play Hollow Knight: Silksong. No. Stay back. They won’t. Into your cardboard box they file, clearly experts in filling tight spaces thanks to their past lives as tinned goods. From upstairs, you hear the unmistakeable sound of roaring laughter, echoing amid the damp paper. “I told you to let me out,” bellows a triumphant Adrian Edmondson. “Now you’ll pay the price.” As the light fades from your eyes, you picture some writings from this week.

  • Paradox refunds PlayStation Store preorders of Bloodlines 2 in preparation for ‘adjustments’ to its reviled $30 DLC to be revealed later this month

    [ad_1]

First reported by Eurogamer, Paradox announced this weekend that PlayStation Store preorders of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 are being refunded with the instruction that customers renew their preorder after planned “adjustments” to the game and its price.

This is in response to the backlash over core content being locked behind a $30 DLC, an unforced error at the end of a long, challenging development across two studios. Paradox noted that PlayStation customers will be able to place a new preorder for the game after it finally announces those adjustments on September 17th.

  • Bethesda Teases ‘Terran Armada’ on Starfield 2-Year Anniversary, Sending Fans Down a Speculation Rabbit Hole – IGN

    [ad_1]

It looks like Bethesda has begun teasing new content for Starfield, after fans spotted a hidden message in a social media video released to celebrate the game’s two-year anniversary.

The video, below, starts off innocently enough, but soon the tone of the music shifts and the image becomes garbled. Clearly, there’s a tease in there somewhere!

And indeed there is. It didn’t take long for Starfield fans to arrange the frames in such a way to form the words ‘Terran Armada,’ which has sent the game’s community down a rabbit hole of speculation.

    Warning! Spoilers for Starfield follow:

The most obvious suggestion is Terran Armada is the name of Starfield’s long-awaited second expansion. If so, it suggests a DLC that revolves around Earth, people who left Earth, or people who still are on Earth. Some are speculating that Terran Armada, if this does in fact relate to DLC, will be about the return ships that left Earth at some point in the past, perhaps a fleet of generation ships. Another popular theory is that the Terrans are the name of a new enemy faction of survivors left on Earth after its destruction, which could evoke Mad Max vibes.

In Starfield, Earth became a barren, uninhabitable wasteland after its magnetosphere collapsed in 2203, leading to the dissipation of its atmosphere and the evacuation of humanity. The collapse was a direct consequence of the invention and widespread use of the Grav Drive, a technology enabling faster-than-light travel. The planet is now exposed to dangerous solar and cosmic radiation and is covered in toxic vents and impact craters, with no signs of life.

    Xbox Games Series Tier List

    Xbox Games Series Tier List

Or perhaps Terran Armada isn’t DLC 2 after all, and instead is a stop-gap update designed to tide fans over until the promised second expansion finally materializes.

Whatever this is, clearly Starfield fans who have stuck with the game since its launch in 2023 are chomping at the bit. Apart from vague words of reassurance, Bethesda has remained tight-lipped on the future of Starfield, only recently teasing improvements to space travel.

“We've waited 11 months for a three-second screen that changed colors and revealed a few letters of a broken up word (and we're probably gonna have to wait another 4-6 months for anything more),” said redditor Elkupalos. “We're beyond starved at this point haha. Next trailer or update of actual substance is gonna hit us fans like a nuke.”

Last month, Bethesda confirmed improvements to Starfield space gameplay “to make the travels there more rewarding” after datamined fragments of code suggested the developer had a more streamlined space travel experience in the works. Based on this datamine, while you may be able to travel between planets within the same system, you won’t be able to fly all the way between systems, nor fly directly from a planet's surface into orbit, like No Man's Sky.

In a new video discussing his career, veteran Bethesda developer Tim Lamb confirmed that the studio had been working on Starfield’s space gameplay, and that a new DLC story was still coming at some point.

“I think as it comes to Starfield, I'm really excited for players to see what the teams have been working on,” he said. “We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features the players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story.

“I can't go into all the details just yet, but I will say part of the team has been focused on space gameplay to make the travels there more rewarding. We're also adding some new game systems, and a few other smaller delights. There's also some really interesting stuff coming down the pipe from our verified creators. There's some fun stuff.

“I just want to say thanks. We really appreciate the support and the enthusiasm. We can't wait to get it into the hands of our players.”

Last month it was reported that Starfield's second expansion and much-anticipated PlayStation 5 port would now arrive in 2026, following the poor reception to 2024 add-on Shattered Space. Bethesda boss Todd Howard had previously talked of expansions arriving annually.

Starfield launched in September 2023 as Bethesda’s first brand new IP in 25 years, but it was not as well received as the studio’s previous games in the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls franchises, and the Shattered Space expansion, released a year later in September 2024, has a ‘mostly negative’ user review rating on Steam.

Starfield went on to reach 15 million players, but the question of whether Bethesda might walk away from the game to focus on its other franchises has been a running theme since release. In June 2024, Bethesda insisted it remained committed to supporting Starfield, and confirmed at least one other story expansion would come out following Shattered Space. And in an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard said the developer was aiming to release an annual story expansion for “hopefully a very long time.”

  • ‘There’s Just No Question That the Company Is Not the Same’ – Former Bethesda Exec on How the Studio Behind Fallout has Changed – IGN

    [ad_1]

Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks has been through a lot in the last few decades, and former marketing boss Pete Hines was there to see it through almost all of its changes.

Hines touched on how Bethesda became a gaming giant during a recent interview with DBLTAP. In addition to providing his perspective on the company’s early days, he took the time to recount how some of its biggest victories and hardest falls helped shape it into what it is today.

When it was working, it was magical.

Hines started with Bethesda in October 1999, seeing it through everything from the launch of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind in 2002, to Skyrim in 2011, to Fallout 76 in 2018. He also remained as a key figure at the gaming publisher throughout Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media, which was completed in 2021, before going on to announce his retirement in 2023.

Hines brought his time at Bethesda to an end after 24 years. However, it seems it was the quieter moments working with ZeniMax founder and CEO Robert Altman, who passed away in 2021, that he remembers most fondly.

“It was Robert Altman’s company, and we were his employees, no question,” Hines said. “But he treated us more like family, and we found a culture that really fit us. When it was working, it was magical. We were a small, private company. It’s way easier to stay out of scrutiny when you’re not having to put your earnings reports out for the whole world.”

Bethesda, which now serves under the titan that is Microsoft, encompasses a variety of different game studios. This includes its development arm, Bethesda Game Studios, Doom developer id Software, Deathloop developer Arkane Studios, Wolfenstein studio MachineGames, and The Elder Scrolls Online studio ZeniMax Online.

Gamers have turned to the company for everything from giant, trend-setting RPGs to laser-focused first-person shooters, but in 2024, the Bethesda umbrella shrunk. Just three years after Microsoft completed its acquisition, the Xbox company announced it would be shutting down Redfall developer Arkane Austin and Hi-Fi Rush studio Tango Gameworks (Tango was later acquired by Krafton).

There’s just no question that the company is not the same.

Bethesda has gone through major shifts both before and after the Microsoft acquisition. For better or worse, Hines says there’s no denying the company he started at in 1999 has changed.

“There’s just no question that the company is not the same,” he added. “It has been radically changed and altered from the company that we built. It is what it is. Things change. Things move on, but at its height, it was really a special thing to be a part of.”

Elsewhere in the interview with Hines, the former Bethesda executive touched on how he fought to change the name of Arkane’s Prey, as well as his thoughts on gaming subscription services like Game Pass. He also remembered the controversy surrounding Fallout 76 and how it led to “probably the dumbest thing” he ever did at Bethesda.

For more, you can read about how Bethesda became the first Microsoft game studio to fully unionize. You can also check out why one Bethesda veteran believes games like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls will always have load screens.

  • Darksiders 4: Release Date Info, Story, Trailer, And Everything Else We Know

    [ad_1]

Darksiders 4 was officially announced in 2025 during a showcase for developer THQ Nordic, and many longtime fans of the franchise are curious about its release date, story, and gameplay. The last time we saw the Darksiders franchise was in 2019 with the release of Darksiders Genesis, a prequel to the original trilogy. This game was met with positive reviews from critics and fans alike, but after radio silence from THQ Nordic for several years, many players thought it could be the last time we’d see the Four Horsemen in action.

Now, with Darksiders 4 confirmed, we finally get to see what THQ Nordic has been cooking up all of this time. We know the Four Horsemen are returning and picking up where they left off at the conclusion of the original Darksiders, but what else do we know about the fourth installment in the franchise? You can check out everything we know about Darksiders 4 in the guide below.

When will Darksiders 4 be released?

While we did get the reveal of Darksiders 4, THQ Nordic still has not given us a release date for the new action-RPG. Right now, the current release date is “to be announced,” and there’s no indication as to when an announcement is expected.

So, as of right now, we’re pretty much in the dark when it comes to a release date for Darksiders 4. It’s unclear how far along in development THQ Nordic is with the game, either, so we don’t have anything to go on at the time of writing.

    Preorder Darksiders 4

As we don’t have a concrete release date for Darksiders 4, there’s currently no way to preorder the game on any of its available platforms (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S). This also means we don’t know how much Darksiders 4 will cost. However, Darksiders has, in recent years, usually been priced under the industry standard for a new AAA game. For example, Darksiders III retailed for $40 at launch, and Darksiders Genesis came in at $30. THQ Nordic could take that same approach with Darksiders 4, which would put it at around $50-60, but it might also be a full-priced, $70 game.

All you can do right now is wishlist the game’s Standard Edition on PC via Steam. This gives you a notification when Darksiders 4 officially goes live for preorders.

    Watch the Darksiders 4 teaser

If you want a small glimpse into what THQ Nordic has in store with Darksiders 4, you can watch the official teaser trailer for the action-RPG below.

Naturally, this is only a sneak peek at the game that confirms the return of the Four Horsemen. We’ll have to wait for a proper trailer to see exactly what Darksiders 4 will look like.

    Darksiders 4 Platforms

Darksiders is coming to PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s currently unknown if THQ Nordic will attempt to port the game to other platforms, such as Nintendo Switch 2, in the future. For now, though, Darksiders 4 will launch for only the current-gen platforms.

Darksiders 4 Story, Setting, And Characters

As we only have a small teaser trailer to go off, we don’t know too much about the story of Darksiders 4. We do know that the game picks up at the conclusion of the original Darksiders, though, so the setting will still be the post-apocalyptic version of Earth that’s remained prevalent throughout the franchise’s life. The developers also said that the setting will take place over different realms within the post-apocalyptic landscape, and each realm has unique bosses, items, and visuals.

During the game, you’ll get to play as one of the Four Horsemen characters, who have become staples of the franchise. Death, Strife, Fury, and War are back in Darksiders 4, and you can choose which one to play as for a playthrough. Each of the Horsemen features different weapons, abilities, and playstyles, giving you more replayability options for second, third, and fourth playthroughs of the main story.

Aside from the Four Horsemen, we’re unsure of any additional characters in Darksiders 4. However, with the story starting from the end of the first game, it’s a safe bet that some characters from the original will make an appearance.

    Darksiders 4 Gameplay And Multiplayer

While we await more details and showcases of Darksiders 4, the developers have given us an idea of how the game will play. Just like the other games in the series, the fourth installment is a third-person action-RPG that emphasizes combat, narrative storytelling, and exploration through a lore-rich world.

The combat in Darksiders 4 features up-close melee action and supernatural abilities that each of the characters possesses. These abilities can all likely be used in combat in some fashion, but other abilities could be more useful outside of engagements with enemies. In the case of Strife, we’ll also likely be able to use his guns. Building on the cooperative feature in Genesis, it’s also been confirmed that Darksiders 4 will support up to four people in cooperative play, with each controller one of the Four Horsemen.

THQ Nordic specifies “traversal and puzzle-solving” as key components to the game. Darksiders is no stranger to unique movement and puzzles across the post-apocalypse, but the early marketing seems to suggest those elements will play a larger role in Darksiders 4. Some characters might offer more traversal abilities than others, which could give them an edge while exploring the map, while other characters might have abilities that make them tankier in battle.

We still don’t know a large chunk of how Darksiders 4 will look when it comes to gameplay, but THQ Nordic should be able to build off the foundation from the previous games in the franchise.

  • Disney x Fortnite: Everything We Know So Far

    [ad_1]

In early 2024, Disney invested more than a billion dollars in Fortnite creator Epic Games and announced some sort of new Disney-powered metaverse experience. We’ve already seen a few aspects of this deal come to fruition, like Fortnite skins for the Incredibles and the Disney Villains, plus new Marvel and Star Wars-themed seasons. There’s been a lot of Disney in Fortnite since that announcement, in other words.

But the big Disney x Fortnite metaverse mode has yet to see the light of day, and the project remains shrouded in mystery. Let’s take a look at what we know about it so far.

What actually is the Disney x Fortnite mode?

We don’t really know. There’s been no teaser images or videos, and nobody is talking about it in terms that we would consider concrete. But here’s how Disney described it in the original announcement:

“In addition to being a world-class games experience and interoperating with Fortnite, the new persistent universe will offer a multitude of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, shop and engage with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more. Players, gamers and fans will be able to create their own stories and experiences, express their fandom in a distinctly Disney way, and share content with each other in ways that they love.”

While most of this is too nebulous to accurately break down with any real confidence, the key detail there is that Epic’s new Disney experience is described as being its own thing that “interoperates” with Fortnite, rather than being a Fortnite mode. The reason for that distinction is that Disney x Fortnite will be its own walled garden of content–not every Fortnite skin will work with it, and there will be skins that work in the Disney mode that don’t work in the rest of Fortnite.

“Not every outfit will be able to do everything,” Epic executive Saxs Persson told The Verge in October 2024. “A [Lego] minifig doesn’t hold a gun. Brands should be able to enforce the brand guidelines to the degree that they’re comfortable with that brand being associated with particular ratings.”

In March 2025, meanwhile, a Disney Imagineer, speaking at South by Southwest, indicated that Fortnite’s Disney experience will have some interactivity with the Disney parks in the real world.

“Imagine … what if you could go to the park and have an experience in Smuggler’s Run [and] go on this amazing mission, but then have that affect or connect your gameplay at home?” said Asa Kalama, head of interactive experiences at Disney.

OK, but what will the game/experience actually be like?

Despite the quotes above, we still don’t know anything really tangible about the moment-to-moment experience of this Fortnite x Disney thing. Yes, they’ve teased certain features, like being able to watch Disney content in-game or buy Disney merch, and leaks indicate the experience will at least partially be set in some sort of digital adaptation of the real-world Disneyland park, and so perhaps you’ll be able to ride those Disney rides in the game. And another leak mentions cinematic cutscenes and story content, so it may have a campaign to play through.

But even though we have this smattering of details about what will be included, we still have no real idea of what the core gameplay will be for this Fortnite x Disney thing. All these details are hints, but they don’t add up to any sort of big picture.

When is Disney x Fortnite coming out?

Considering how vague the details have been so far, there’s no reason to expect this Disney x Fortnite project to release this year, and a recent Wall Street Journal report indicated it might be a while before it all comes together. The report claimed the mode is being held up by the many layers of Disney bureaucracy that have to approve anything Epic does with it. However, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney claimed the report was false and that Disney actually has been much more responsive than they expected.

Regardless of what is and isn’t true with that story, the total lack of tangible info about the mode means there’s no real reason to think that the Disney x Fortnite project is close to completion. Expect a 2026 launch at the earliest, unless Epic has majorly improved its ability to keep secrets recently.
