  • Snag Detective Pikachu’s New 4K Steelbook Edition For As Low As $17 At Amazon

    [ad_1]

Pokemon fans can snag the new Detective Pikachu Limited Edition Steelbook for cheap at Amazon. Released in April for $33, the colorful new 4K Blu-ray edition is up for grabs for only $21.49. Amazon is even offering an additional 20% off to select shoppers that drops the price to only $17.19.

Detective Pikachu originally released on Blu-ray back in 2019. At the time, Best Buy had an exclusive edition with a steelbook case. That version is long gone and has regularly been listed for ridiculous prices on eBay and other marketplaces. The new edition comes with a different steelbook case featuring Ryme City’s best detective.

    Detective Pikachu Limited Edition Steelbook
    Detective Pikachu Limited Edition Steelbook

It’s worth noting that Detective Pikachu’s standard editions routinely sell for cheap. At the moment, the 4K Blu-ray edition is $15 and the 1080p Blu-ray is $8.

Detective Pikachu played a huge part in changing the perception and expectations for video game adaptations. It also provided a blueprint for live-action adaptations of other storied game franchises with similar cartoonish graphical styles. Until The Super Mario Bros. Movie shattered records in 2023, Detective Pikachu was the highest grossing video game adaptation of all time. At the start of 2025, it still held the No. 2 spot. That didn’t last for long, though. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 dashed ahead of Detective Pikachu early in the year. Then it was passed up again by A Minecraft Movie, which nearly became the second video game adaptation to reach $1 billion at the box office.

For another Pokemon steelbook, check out Pokemon: The Movies 1-3 Steelbook Collection on Blu-ray, which is back in stock for $33 (was $40) at Amazon and Walmart.

    Video Game Movie Steelbook Editions

If you want more video game adaptations with collectible steelbook cases, you’re in luck: There are a number of new and upcoming 4K Blu-rays of some of the most popular films based on games. Gruv has The Super Mario Bros. Movie Power-Up Steelbook Edition in stock for $30. A Minecraft Movie’s Steelbook Edition is available for $36.59, and Steelbook Editions for all three Sonic the Hedgehog movies are available at Amazon.

In October, Amazon is releasing an exclusive Ultimate Collector’s Edition for Five Nights at Freddy’s. This 4K Blu-ray edition comes with a steelbook case and numerous collectibles for $75. You can preorder Five Nights at Freddy’s: Ultimate Collector’s Edition for $75. A reprint of last year’s Five Night at Freddy’s Steelbook Edition launches November 11.

Video Game TV Adaptations – Steelbook Editions

On the TV adaptation side, Arcane Season 2 arrives on 4K and 1080p Blu-ray on October 28 with two unique Steelbook Editions. The Last of Us fans can get Season 2’s Steelbook Edition for $35 (was $47) at Amazon. Season 2 just launched on 4K Blu-ray on September 23.

Though they don’t come with steelbook cases, it’s worth noting Castlevania: Complete Series Limited Edition launches September 30 and Cyberpunk Edgerunners Complete Series arrives October 22.

  • (For Southeast Asia) Celebrate Kratos’ legacy with the DualSense Wireless Controller – God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition

    [ad_1]

As revealed in today’s State of Play, the God of War 20th Anniversary limited edition DualSense controller launches this October. Designed to evoke the legendary Ghost of Sparta’s ashen skin and scarlet tattoo, the controller pays homage to Kratos, who has taken on countless roles and endless challenges across Ancient Greece and the Nine Realms.

Join us in celebrating two decades of God of War with a controller that reflects Kratos’ journey spanning four console generations, two handheld systems, and more than a dozen games, beginning with Santa Monica Studio’s God of War for the PlayStation 2 console.

Associate Art Director Dela Longfish from Santa Monica Studio shares more on the controller’s iconic Kratos-inspired design:

“In honor of God of War’s 20th anniversary this year, we were thrilled by the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with a new DualSense controller design.

When we were deciding how best to embody the series, we immediately thought the form of the controller lent itself perfectly to Kratos’ omega tattoo. No matter which God of War game you’re playing, the shape of his red ink against the gray of his ash-covered skin is one of the most iconic elements of Kratos’ look across both Greek and Norse sagas. Our team made sure to represent both of these key tones in the color selection for the controller to make every aspect an authentic homage to the design that has defined Kratos for over two decades.

We hope fans enjoy the controller and can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support you’ve shown Santa Monica Studio over the years!”

The DualSense wireless controller – God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities for a recommended retail price of SGD 119 / RM 419 / Rp 1,549,000 / THB 2,890 / PHP 4,890 / VND 2,399,000. Pre-orders start on October 3, 2025 at participating retailers. The exact launch date and availability for the controller may vary by country/region.

  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Has Evolved into an Even Better Legend of Zelda Complement – IGN

    [ad_1]

2020’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gave us an expanded look on a time in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s history only whispered about in a few flashback cutscenes. The new Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment seems to be following this trend by taking us even further back in time to the founding of Hyrule and the imprisoning of Ganondorf, of which only fragments were shown in Tears of the Kingdom. Just as Tears expanded on everything Breath of the Wild had to offer, Age of Imprisonment seems to be equally upping the stakes, both in taking advantage of the Switch 2’s increased horsepower and showing off some new and welcome features to the hack ‘n slash spinoff series.

The demo I played (which is now also available to attendees of the Tokyo Game Show) comprised a 10-minute chunk of an early mission that also sought to capitalize on Tears of the Kingdom’s new discoveries: exploring The Depths. Given that this creepy underground area effectively doubled the size of Hyrule, I’m excited to see where these types of missions can lead, and what horrors we’ll find lurking in the dark (I can’t be the only one hoping we get some acknowledgement of the creepy giant statues). This iteration of Hyrule Warriors seemed to run a lot smoother on the Switch 2 and I couldn’t spot any dips in the framerate while wading into combat, but being in an early enclosed area it’s hard to say if Nintendo’s new console was truly being put through its paces.

I began the mission as Zelda, still adjusting to being thrown backwards in time during the events of Tears of the Kingdom, with the ancient Zonai beings Rauru and Minera escorting her toward sacred sites of power hidden away in the Depths. After equipping myself with a few Zonai devices to use in battle, it wasn’t long before I was mowing through enemies in true Dynasty Warriors “musou” style. This time around, Zelda has put down the sheikah slate in favor of a lightsaber, mixing in more straightforward sword slashes with the ability to shoot light arrows from afar, or recall her sword as it dances around to cut swaths through enemies. It’s a great way to make her less of a technical fighter and more of an easy to pick up all-rounder stand-in for Link (who couldn’t make it on account of the whole time travel thing).

Zelda has put down the sheikah slate in favor of a lightsaber. It’s a great way to make her less of a technical fighter and more of an easy to pick up all-rounder stand-in for Link.

Even though I was only able to play as three different characters during the demo, I have to hand it to Mineru for stealing the show. Her ability to pull out random complex Zonai death contraptions was something I never got tired of. Whether it was driving a giant spiky four-wheeler of destruction through enemies, or simply hopping onto a giant tire to ride side-saddle instead of running, Mineru has so far proven to be the Green Lantern of this universe with her ability to pull out the wildest creations out of nowhere. Many of her crazier constructs – like summoning a spinning paddle to whack giant orbs into enemies like a bowling ball – had me itching to go back to Tears of the Kingdom to see if I could recreate these death traps myself.

Though only Mineru got to summon complex machines, each character was able to gather singular Zonai devices to be used in battle as consumable items, and deployed in a few ways. At first I was whipping out my flame emitter to mow down groups of little Frox enemies, but later I was able to set one down to continuously burn a Construct Captain while I flanked from the side with more direct attacks, making it an effective 1-2 punch combo. All devices will drain your battery, making their deployment a tactical choice unless you’ve stockpiled battery rechargers. I was only able to mess around with a few, but with different characters using devices in various manners, there’s a lot of room to find great times to deploy them – especially on boss fights.

Along with deploying devices, holding R also allows you to activate special unique skills in combat that cover wide areas and blast through the opposition with some bombastic attacks. Each character I got to play had two different abilities, and I was also able to map them alongside Zonai devices for easy use. While they can be used to mow through hordes of grunts, they really shine when facing tougher bosses and captains that stand between you and your objectives. Even the most generic of construct captains can employ strong unblockable attacks that can cover a wide area and do heavy damage, signified by a glowing aura that spreads out from them. Koei Tecmo has seemingly taken a page from another of its action series, Nioh, in presenting the best way to stop an unblockable strike is to overpower it with one of your own. Being able to anticipate, react, and shut down a deadly foe with a trick of my own was immensely satisfying and rewarding (and at least this early on, I was given a pretty generous reaction time before their attack would unleash).

I also appreciate the steps Age of Imprisonment has taken to make your allies feel more tangible, as they are now able to assist you in battle with bigger attacks when you’re running out of skills to deploy. In one instance, a boss readied its charge attack, while both of Zelda’s skills were still on cooldown. Suddenly I was given the option to swap to Rauru waiting on the other side of the arena, and I was able to deploy his unique skill to intercept the boss and save Zelda in a moment that felt truly cinematic.

An even bigger upgrade to making more use of your allies is a new ability – a sync strike that can be triggered when you and your ally have dealt enough damage to fill a meter. This lit up their portraits on the side, and also helpfully showed when I was in range of a character to perform the strike with by highlighting the ground to the person in range. Not only are these moves as dramatic as they are powerful, but they’re also unique to the two characters you sync up, opening up the floor for a lot of possibilities and tactics. Pairing up Zelda and Rauru allowed me to shoot out twin beams of light that I could aim independently with each control stick to focus on two bosses at once, while having Zelda synch up with Mineru for a strike let her ride on the back of the Zonai’s mech to wade into battle alternating powerful slams and magic explosions. Given the nature of some of these attacks, I’m really hoping that co-op play will allow each player to direct their own attacks during these sync strikes, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

Even though my time with the demo was criminally short, I’m already looking forward to seeing how more of its characters fight in sync – especially the tiny korok musketeer and enigmatic looking Zonai construct that looks very similar to a notably absent hero. Luckily I’ll only have just over a month to wait until Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment arrives on November 6th.

  • The game is in hand: Japanese developers bring their legendary craftsmanship to new Xbox devices – Source

    [ad_1]

It’s a mindset that’s embedded in Xbox’s partners in Japan, where developers are just as thoughtful with storytelling as they are with crafting the animation that makes their games so distinctive.

“I believe Final Fantasy is a series that has significantly contributed to establishing this RPG (role playing game) genre within Japan,” Hamaguchi says. “And particularly the emotionally resonant storytelling, depth of world building and compelling characters have influenced countless developers, both domestically and internationally.”

The original Final Fantasy VII wove themes of life and death, environmentalism and self-discovery amidst a dystopian world dominated by an electric company exploiting the planet’s life force for profit.

Overseeing a game that will be available to more players is also a source of creative motivation, says Hamaguchi. “It presents this challenge of what can we achieve with these specs and then creatively, it sparks this question: What unique experiences can this [new] device offer?”

New devices for a new era

Those devices are the Xbox ROG Ally and Xbox ROG Ally X – made in partnership with ASUS, Windows and AMD – introduced in June and available Oct. 16.

They run on Windows 11, which will feel familiar to PC gamers who are used to downloading games from their favorite storefronts, running apps like Discord, watching favorite streamers on Twitch and trying out mods (modified versions of games crafted by other players).

    Xbox ROG Ally X

Playing on something significantly smaller than a laptop gives players even more freedom to catch up on games they may have started on a PC or console.

The Xbox ROG Ally handhelds are the latest addition to Xbox Play Anywhere. A user pays for a game once and can then pick up play on supported devices.

“Handheld devices like the Xbox ROG Ally deliver a wider reach as something that takes the console and PC experience further in a portable way,” says Kato. “Developers don’t have to create a specific version for it. It’s actually what is on your TV or on your bigger screens, but it’s going to be on a handheld that you can take out and play.”

Screenshot showing game library as it appears on Xbox ROG Ally
Game library as it appears on Xbox ROG Ally

    A natural convergence

Partners like Square Enix recognize the potential reach of the Xbox ROG Ally handhelds, which will allow them to design games that aren’t limited to a certain environment or to one set of users. Being flexible and having options is always going to be a benefit to players, Hamaguchi says.

“And for us as a company as well, this is completely in line with our multi-platform strategy,” he says. “I sense something of a natural convergence or synchronicity in the direction that both of the companies are pursuing.”

Adds Hiroshi Takai, main director for Final Fantasy XVI, also at Square Enix: “As Final Fantasy XVI was originally designed with a specific piece of hardware in mind, it wasn’t until we later began work on the Windows PC version – and optimizing the game for a variety of unique hardware environments – that the doors to porting the game to other platforms (handhelds included) opened to us.”

  • Elon Musk’s Favorite Game Is Getting Remastered 25 Years Later – Kotaku

    [ad_1]

Classic sci-fi immersive sim Deus Ex is returning with a fresh coat of paint and updated features, compliments of Aspyr. The remaster about a futuristic society crumbling beneath the weight of feckless governments and wild conspiracy theories arrives at a hell of a time.

“Question Everything. Trust No One,” reads the tagline to a game with many fans, including billionaire Elon Musk. He called the original “one of the best games ever” in 2020. This new remaster promises visual upgrades and quality-of-life improvements similar to Aspyr’s existing HD remasters of the Tomb Raider games. Hopefully,  Deus Ex Remastered will be the definitive way to replay one of the most important games of the century. At least it will make the PC version accessible on console. The PS2 version, Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, joined PS Plus earlier this year.

The irony of Elon Musk’s love for the game has haunted it in recent years. One of the game’s original writers, Austin Grossman, called it the immersive sim’s “worst legacy” in an interview earlier this month.

“That kind of political weight and social satire is a real common thread between Deus Ex and Dishonored,” Grossman, who co-wrote the Warren Spector-directed hit with Sheldon Pacotti and Chris Todd, recently told PC Gamer. “It is the thing that Elon Musk likes, creepily. It is creepily in Elon Musk’s worldview. So that may be its longest, worst legacy.”

Musk has been a lifelong gamer with a notorious career as an amateur Quake player back in college. Last year, however, he was caught cheating at games like Diablo 4 and Path of Exiles 2 by allegedly paying other people to boost his accounts. Trust no one, indeed.

  • We finally saw ZA/UM’s Zero Parades in action and even though it’s extremely Disco Elysium, the protagonist couldn’t be more different

    [ad_1]

Zero Parades – For Dead Spies – Reveal Trailer | PS5 Games – YouTube

    Watch On

It’s true: If you squint at the gameplay footage of ZA/UM’s Zero Parades, all you’ll see is Disco Elysium with a different coat of paint. It’s set in an isometric city covered in rust and filth, is intensely detailed with surreal art, and sticks all its dialogue on the right side of the screen.

However, the Disco Elysium comparisons don’t seem to apply to protagonist Hershel Wilk, who appears to be a relapsed spy called back in to assemble a squad. I don’t think that you’ll be waking up hungover and naked in your hotel room at the start of Zero Parades. Hershel, the two off-screen characters in the State of Play trailer explain, hasn’t been around for five years, but is still considered one of the best.

  • I played three missions of the Battlefield 6 campaign, and I wasn’t ready for how much Battlefield-y it is

    [ad_1]

Battlefield 6 is one of the rare triple-A games whose developers were happy to let the public – some of them, at least – play the game well ahead of its release. This wasn’t as part of a beta/demo three weeks from launch; it was a conscious effort to get the community involved months in advance, and give the developers enough time to actually iterate and implement whatever feedback they felt would help make a better game.

Understandably, that experiment was strictly limited to the game’s multiplayer mode, which ends up making Battlefield 6’s campaign its most mysterious – and least seen – component. We’ve not been able to play the single-player mode, or really examine it in any way. Until now.

As part of a digital preview event, I got a chance to spend a few hours with Battlefield 6’s single-player. We had access to three full missions from the campaign, complete with cutscenes, a little bit of setup for the state of the world, and a brief introduction of the thrust of its events.

One of the first things that quickly became apparent was how much the structure of the Battlefield 6 campaign builds upon that of Battlefield 4’s. At almost every moment, you’re accompanied by at least one squad member. Most of the time, you have a full squad with you, which you can command to use smoke for cover, spot enemies, throw a grenade/use explosives, or simply engage the enemy.

These commands are easily accessible through a simplified commo rose (the wheel where you issue commands), and the game assigns each role to the class it would correspond to in multiplayer (Assault, Support etc.), which is a nice touch that definitely creates a sense of continuity with the bigger half of the game.

Much like it did in BF4, however, that squad play dynamic gets old pretty quickly. Even on Veteran difficulty (one below the highest), encounters were easily manageable if you take your time and pick your targets. My most used command was spotting, and occasionally smoke when crossing open areas.

These commands are useful, so I can see someone relying on them more often than I did. In the case of spotting, it’s downright broken, as it highlights every single enemy in the vicinity at the press of a button, which really robs some encounters from the stakes they could otherwise have if, for instance, you needed to find the sniper pinning down your squad. Even though my time with the campaign was limited, I intentionally stopped using spotting because of the advantage it offers.

It’s possible the main campaign has more traditional (read: linear) missions, like the sort that’s common in Call of Duty, where these elements wouldn’t be as present. Those elements shine, however, in the open missions that go the opposite direction. On such mission lets you loose in a large open space, and you get to pick which objective to tackle first, and how to approach them. These sandbox-y missions are starting to become more common in this space, but they belong in Battlefield more than any other game that uses them because of the series’ inbuilt focus on squad play.

    Watch on YouTube

The narrative remains one of the campaign’s most intriguing aspects. Because the missions we got access to were picked from across the timeline, I couldn’t quite get a feel for how it’s going to flow, or the dynamics between its core characters.

The setup, key players and some of their actions, however, are incredibly believable. In this story, the world is on the brink of war as NATO begins to collapse; with some member states leaving the alliance to join forces with other nations and form an alliance of their own. This is not simply an East vs West affair, and it’s these complications that make things interesting.

I’m very intrigued to see whether the rest of the campaign will weave these events into the narrative or simply use it as a backdrop. Some of the dialogue leads me to believe it’s going to be more serious and relevant than you might expect.

The build we had access to was very clearly work-in-progress, but considering how close to launch we are, I’m a little concerned about how clunky and underbaked certain elements of it were. The moment-to-moment action remains sharp, but the way things flow into and out of scripted sequences is a little amateurish.

Cutscenes, for instance – even real-time ones – don’t show the weapon you’re using in gameplay. Regaining control after a cutscene ends takes a little too long, and there were multiple instances of enemies essentially waiting for the heroes to “activate” before they get on their marks. It made it look staged.

It’s unfair to compare this to the work of the – vastly more – experienced teams making Call of Duty campaigns year after year. Battlefield Studios simply doesn’t have institutional knowledge to be able to stand toe-to-toe with Modern Warfare or even Black Ops. Nevertheless, these sorts of production quality failings can make it harder to take its characters and world seriously.

What I played of the BF6 campaign has certainly been fun, if serviceable. There’s no Clean House moment – even if one mission clearly tries. Battlefield gameplay remains the draw, so if the narrative can hold its intrigue throughout and doesn’t fumble the bag, I can see this being a pretty good time.

  • This Spider-Man Magic Card Is Already Selling for $1,250 Ahead Of Release Day – IGN

    [ad_1]

Marvel’s Spider-Man set for Magic: The Gathering arrived in prerelease form last week, and if you cracked open some packs early, then you could be about to be happier than Eddie Brock on Emo Night.

That’s because, aside from the Infinity Stone debut for the new set, one card is already up for a market price of $1,250 on TCGPlayer. Here’s what you should be looking out for.

For this new set, Wizards of the Coast has released a series of Spectacular Spider-Man cards with a textured foil finish. There are five different versions going for a lot of money right now, and while it’ll be tough to find them unless you’re looking in the horrendously overpriced Collector Boosters, one is reaching new heights of market value.

The Bombastic Bag-Man Suit, pictured above, is up for $1,250 on TCGPlayer, meaning its market value is actually higher than The Soul Stone right now. The thrown-together suit, which includes a Fantastic Four hand-me-down and a literal paper bag, is clearly well worth it for collectors.

    Spectacular Spider-Man – Textured Foil

    Six-Armed Spider-Man Suit

Curious about its comic book origins? It stems from Reed Richards removing the symbiote from Peter Parker, leaving our hero without any clothing. Johnny Storm ‘helpfully’ loaned the wall-crawler the costume we see here, but we can’t quite tell if the “Kick Me” sign is on Peter’s back.

The fun suit isn’t alone, either. The Six-Armed Spider-Man suit is up for $1037 right now, and while all of these prices could change in the next few days, you’ll undoubtedly be over the moon if you find one.if you find one. Next up, a personal favorite of mine, The Black Suit, is up for $949, while the Spider Armor MK 1 Suit is $850. Rounding things out, the awesome Future Foundation Suit has a market value of around $850, too.

    Spectacular Spider-Man - Textured Foil

Magic: The Gathering Spectacular Spider-Man – Textured Foil

If you’re looking to go chase these rare cards without wanting to pay the big bucks, then unfortunately, you might just be out of luck. Collector’s boosters are the best chance at scoring these rare finds, and they’re sold out completely except for resellers (who are charging upwards of $1000 for just 12 Packs).

  • Monster Hunter Wilds’ collab with Final Fantasy 14 looks like a neat way to do some digital cosplay

    [ad_1]

Capcom and Square Enix announced earlier this year that Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy 14 would be collaborating with one another, and the first trailer for the former’s collab received a proper look in today. It’s coming as part of the action game’s third title update, so there’s more included than just Final Fantasy bits, but that does seem to be the main thing here. So what’s included?

Well, for starters there’s the cosmetics. A couple of Final Fantasy 14 jobs will be making their way into the game, the first being the Berserk reference that is the Dark Knight job. This one gives you a big ole greatsword, and equipping the armour set lets you perform a special action. Then there’s Pictomancer, a more recent addition to Final Fantasy 14 that lets you cast different pictomancy spells. It’s kind of like you get to do a little cosplay!

    Watch on YouTube

The new monster for this update isn’t technically a monster, instead you’ll be getting Omega Planetes, a Final Fantasy 14, Magitek-themed enemy that looks like it’ll incorporate some mechanics from the MMO itself. Neat! You’ll also be able to ride around on a Chocobo instead of a Seikret, and Cactuar will show up along the way somewhere too (including its signature pose).

Outside of the collab stuff, Arch-tempered Nu Udra is showing up in an event quest starting October 22nd and running until October 29, which nets you some fiery-looking armour. The Grand Hub will also get a Halloweeny overhaul too. At the end of the trailer there was a tease for title update four too, which showed a look at Gogmazios (great name), a volcanic-themed monster.

Title update three is scheduled for release later this month on September 29th, and title update four is planned for some time in December.

  • Love and Deepspace gets hotter than ever before with Zayne’s third Myth, which sees him transformed into a semi-nude desert god

    [ad_1]

The next Love and Deepspace Memory Pair event has been officially unveiled, and it’s for Zayne. The new event, which kicks off tomorrow, September 25, is dubbed Edge of Continuum.

The banner event introduces a new storyline for Zayne, alongside a new 5-Star Memory Pair. It wouldn’t be a new banner, of course, without some other bits of seasonal activities and new rewards.

Edge of Continuum has some unexpected inspirations, but they’re all taken from popular myths. It features elements from Egyptian, Babylonian, and broader Arabian mythologies. The story goes into the bonds lovers form across realities and how fragile they can be.

The story focus is on another alternate-timeline vision of Zayne’s relationship with the MC, and like most of their encounters, there’s a distinct sense of doom getting in the way of their happily-ever-after. The main reason you’ll probably log in though, of course, is for the Memory Pair. In this, we’re getting Zayne: Diviner’s Hymn and Zayne: Diviner’s Stillness – the limited-time 5-Star pair. You can only get it through the event Wish Pool.

The visuals are drenched in yellow, with golden hour hues. It’s very on theme, given its inspirations. If you do get the Memory Pair, you’ll unlock a new design for Zayne. This one is very much the opposite of his original, cold/white look. Keeping up with the same aesthetic is his new combat scepter, which has crowd-control mechanics in combat with pyramid-themed effects.

    Watch on YouTube

To celebrate this golden transformation, you’ll also find a new outfit set for the MC (that you’ll need to buy), and a new stage of Hunter Contest (v11.1). Since this one is about Zayne, you can expect Deepspace Trial Stages where you can tackle some combat challenges with him.

If you log in during the event, you’ll earn some unique rewards. There’s also a Jimmy Choo collaboration event (yes, the shoe designers) with its own cross-over reward. Oh, and there’s a new plushie you can get from the claw machine, too: say hi to Mushie, everyone!

In case you missed it, Papergames and Infold recently announced that the game has been downloaded over 70 million times since its launch. The news was revealed at gamescom last month, where Love and Deepspace won Best Mobile Game.

If you’re new to Love and Deepspace, it helps to understand what banner events are and how they work. If you’re curious about Zayne specifically, we have a full breakdown of his lore and backstory. And, as always, you should make a habit of checking out our updated Love and Deepspace codes before jumping back in.

  • Crucial’s 4TB SSD Hits Lowest Price Ever, Durable Gaming Storage That’s Practically Free Per TB – Kotaku

    [ad_1]

The Crucial X10 portable SSD is available in up to 8TB. A couple of them are listed as being one sale, but there sale prices are proportional to where the others not on sale are just set at by default. So to avoid any confusion, let’s just break down where each is selling for now. The 1TB model is set at an even $100. $165 will get you 2TB. For $240, you can get the 4TB model. The 6TB model is going for $320. Then we have the 8TB model for just $440. Essentially, you’ll only paying $55 per terabyte when you go with the largest capacity SSD available.

Whether you are a creator, student, or PC gamer, you’re going to need a massive amount of storage.

    See at Amazon

For gamers in particular, video game files sizes keep creeping up higher and higher with every new release. Some games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered reach gigabyte counts upwards of the triple digits. Some modern PCs come with just a1TB of storage or even less. You have to constantly delete and redownload games if you want to play more than just a handful. Expanding to up to 8TB will eliminate this data storage maintenance nightmare for you.

Same goes for creators. If you’re working with video and photo editing, that raw footage and pictures can add up pretty fast on your internal drive. The Crucial external SSD will allow you to expand to a workable amount of storage, plus take it with you when you need it on the go. The Crucial drive is compact. It’s kind of crazy that you can fit a full 8,000GB in your pocket, but here we are. Plus, its IP65 dust and water resistant, keeping it safe from the elements. It’s been test to be able to handle drops of up to 9.8 feet.

All That Data on the Go

The Crucial X10 portable SSD is much faster than an HDD. It’s working with read and write speeds of up to 2,100 MB/s. You’ll have no issue editing big video files or loading up AAA games on your PC. And the external drive is widely compatible with other devices besides PC. In addition to Windows, you can also use it with Mac, iPad Pro, Chromebooks, Android, Linux, as well as PS4, PS5, and Xbox via USB-C and USB-A.

Right now, you can get the Crucial X10 portable SSD for as low as $100 for 1TB or splurge for the full 8TB option for just $440 for a limited time.

  • Pokemon Legends Z-A’s new structure and battles have the power to make a Pikachu terrifying – hands-on

    [ad_1]

Even after a little under an hour of hands-on play, it’s clear that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the most interesting and unique Pokemon title since, er… the last one of these, when Game Freak and The Pokemon Company put out 2022’s Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Now established as what looks like a permanent secondary strand of the ‘main line’ Pokemon titles, Z-A continues with the more bold and experimental development philosophy of Arceus – though this time, I expect further temerity of design – and with it, perhaps a more mixed measure of success.

Back when Legends: Arceus was released, we at VG247 were positively frothing with excitement at the thought of where this series could go. Seeing Z-A, we clearly approached this differently to Pokemon’s developer stewards. We envisioned ‘Legends’ coming to mean Pokemon stories set in the past – Galar as Victorian England, Unova’s Poke-New York in the roaring 20s, or Kalos in the grip of a less bloodless version of the French Revolution where the people and nobility settled matters with Pokemon battles.

In the end we did get Pokemon’s version of France, but not during the revolution. Z-A is once again set in Pokemon’s version of ‘today’, but this time it has a unique twist: the entire game is set in one enormous city, leveraging the status of Paris (in Pokemon’s world known as Lumiose City) as a major built-up area to provide a network of buildings, backstreets, tiny city parks and the like as a new sort of Pokemon world. In this, the spirit of Legends: Arceus is alive but in a mirror image – that game was sparse, full of rolling fields and the like where you’d crawl through long grass to try to surprise an unsuspecting critter or trainer. Z-A is dense, and while things like stealth still exist you’ll instead be hiding around the corner of buildings or behind a parked car.

There is a structural difference to the design of the world, then – but the real significant change comes in combat. For the first time in such a prominent Pokemon release, Z-A shifts to real-time battles. This is still absolutely a role-playing game – but battles now have an extra shot of action-like feeling to them.

Moves are no longer limited by ‘PP’ which drains with each use, for instance – they’re now on a cooldown. New alongside this shift is the fact that battle placement matters – if a Pokemon isn’t physically in the way of a move, that attack will simply whiff. Those previously-mentioned narrow city streets make tactical battlegrounds; a parked taxi is suddenly not just set dressing, but something you as a trainer or your Pokemon can duck behind to avoid incoming attacks.

The act of moment-to-moment play feels a little more segmented, too. The city is a civilized place, so battles can’t happen just anywhere. ‘Wild Zones’ are designated areas where untamed Pokemon roam free, and this is where you’ll be able to enter to catch and battle unaccompanied Pokemon.

Once night falls, trainers can head to the similarly-defined Battle Zones for fights. This is where the titular Z-A Royale takes place: the protagonist tasked with battling their way up from Rank Z through to Rank A. Gym showdowns are replaced with ‘promotion matches’ – gather enough points by defeating opponents in Battle Zones and you’ll gain a ticket that can then be used to go and fight a specific challenger in order to rank up.

The structural change is relatively fascinating and feels like it’ll satisfy. Such regimented segmentation always has the risk of feeling suffocating, but in this hands-on it all tracks and makes sense – and within each zone, some delightful moments await.

Gotta match em all up. | Image credit: Nintendo

I enjoyed, for instance, how perilous the Wild Zone I got to test could feel. The majority of Pokemon there were breezy to battle and acquire, and catching in particular feels more kind in this game because you get a shot (though no guarantee) at catching any defeated wild Pokemon even if you deplete all of their HP. This leads to a generally chill time that channels tooling around the world of Legends: Arceus chain-catching stuff looking for shinies. But then when exploring I clamber atop a rooftop and discover a high-level ‘Alpha’ Pikachu. Its eyes glow red, and it’s absolutely feral.

I try to fight it, expecting the usual Pokemon stuff – being relatively able to cheese through such a fight with healing items and the like. My notes tell a different story. Scrawled hurriedly in my notepad is the following, with grammar tidied and one word not suitable for a preview of a game for children replaced with a bit of blasphemy: “Terrifying level 40 Pikachu. Careful strength and weakness use gives you a chance. Actually, it’s too hard. Oh god, it followed me off the rooftop.”

It’s in this moment, jumping off a rooftop to what I think is safety only to be followed by this hulking, evil Pikachu, that Z-A most thoroughly clicks. Though it feels like tradition with Pokemon, such emotions do inevitably come with caveats.

For one, let’s talk about those environments. They shine in the battle zones, where those tight city streets lend themselves well to light-touch stealth encounters. Back in 1996, Pokemon introduced the concept of line-of-sight between Pokemon trainers initiating battle. If you meet gazes, you fight. Here, in an action RPG, with seamless fights, that concept comes to a pretty glorious natural conclusion. The tall grass stalking of the last game is a foundation; you add to that an urban labyrinth and you’re crouching behind a parked vehicle, or a conveniently-placed crate, waiting for a trainer to turn their back in order to land a sneak attack. Missions given to you in Battle Zones encourage you to engage in such tactics, too. In exploration, the fact you’re using such moves in real time out in the world means the act of using classic Pokemon skills to open up new areas and such feels much more organic than ever before.

But then there’s the flip side: in battle, these things are as much a frustrating obstacle as they are a tactical boon. I watched as a breathtakingly thick Pokemon took my orders to directly attack the enemy as one to stand behind a parked vehicle and whiff its key attack into it, because the enemy was on the other side. The world oscillates in that sense; the brilliance of simple stealth, but then frustration in combat. How static and dead it can often feel, but then a real sense of explorative joy when you stand high on a rooftop and see a distant collectible elsewhere in the city’s sprawl.

A Pokemon trainer begins a combat encounter on the roof of a building in Lumiose City.
Hippos on the roof!? | Image credit: Nintendo

I guess what I’m saying is that it feels like Pokemon, right? These games have long felt like a jumble of strange and fascinating contradictions; of boons and trade-offs. Legends: Z-A feels like it too will strike that balance; sometimes brilliant, sometimes frustrating, but always strangely gripping.

All of this is said, of course, from the standpoint of an extremely short hands-on experience. These games run to as much as 40x longer than what I played; and so it is too early to judge. What I see, in the end, is Pokemon’s caretakers taking a characteristically large swing – with equally characteristic restraint. The result seems to me to be most likely more reminiscent of Legends: Arceus than not – and for my money, that was the best Pokemon game in 20 years. It perhaps is therefore no surprise that I’m eagerly awaiting its release next month – when I can judge the complete package in full.

  • Maxsun’s latest RTX 5070 comes with improved thermals and even more anime cat girl than before

    [ad_1]

I like anime as much as the next weeb, but I don’t think I’ve quite gotten to the point where I want an anime cat girl plastered on my GPU. If you are at that point (and also plan on moving to China), Maxsun has you sorted. If not, well, it’s still quite a pretty design all things considered.

As spotted by VideoCardz, Maxsun has announced the GeForce RTX 5070 iCraft OC12G AIGA Plus S0. This is very similar to the RTX 5070 iCraft OC12G AIGA, which it launched earlier this year. Both have three fans, and both GPUs have the same imagery spinning on those fans. Where the older model has a blue and white tint to said imagery, the newer one combines a grey and pink. However, spin that GPU around and you will spot a big change.
