Bungling Burglars Lose Loot in Botched Brazilian Lottery Shop Heist – Casino.org

As a perfect example of why poorly-conceived plans produce poor results, a trio of would-be thieves in Brazil attempted to rob a lottery shop, only to have their plan fall apart during the escape. Fortunately, their botched escape was caught on film to offer viewers some comic relief, but the perpetrators are still at large.

As the trio quickly exited the shop in the city of Belém in Para, the thief holding the bag of loot dropped it. Its contents spilled out all over the road, leading to a horde of bystanders swarming in to claim part of the free money.

The uncoordinated crooks were then either too spooked or too inept to take charge of the situation. They hopped on a single moped and rode away.

    Making the Three Stooges Proud

The theft occurred at a lottery agency located inside a supermarket in Belém’s Marambaia neighborhood. An investigation has been underway since the master heist took place just before Christmas, but the police aren’t saying how much money may have been lost.

A video circulating on social media shows residents of Belém in the middle of the street collecting money that the robbers lost during the escape. In the recording, it’s possible to see people hastily scrambling in an attempt to gather as much cash as they could. In a matter of seconds, all of the money disappeared from the streets.

One person tweeted, in Portuguese, “It’s raining money in Belém! After robbing a lottery shop in the Marambaia neighborhood, suspects let money fall to the ground, and of course, the population took advantage of the situation.”

Police are still working to solve the attempted robbery, although they haven’t said if they have any solid leads. The videos should help, although three people riding a moped in Brazil isn’t much of a clue.

A somewhat similar situation played out recently in Chile. This past October, thieves attacked a gambling hall before trying to escape in a blue sedan. In this case, though, the police were immediately on their tail.

In an effort to block the chase, the thieves began tossing the money from the vehicle. That was only partially successful in slowing down law enforcement, which eventually trapped the car and arrested six people.

    Marambaia Having a Bad Month

December was a tough month for businesses in Marambaia, with thieves not even stopping to respect Brazil’s place in the World Cup. Criminals targeted a bar on December 2, just as Brazil was taking on Cameroon in their failed bid to win the World Cup.

Security camera footage shows the moment when two armed robbers steal jewelry, cell phones, and money from customers at the establishment. One of the thieves even stuck a gun in a customer’s face. He then demanded that the victim remove the Brazilian national team shirt he was wearing.

The criminals stole a motorcycle to make their escape, but the vehicle was abandoned minutes later on a nearby street. The police are still looking for the suspects.

  • Daniel Negreanu Won $4.9M in 2022, It Wasn’t Easy

Daniel Negreanu Won $4.9M in 2022, It Wasn’t Easy

This amount, though, factors in his buy-ins, which stood at $3,224,564 over the year, which means he ended up profiting $1,625,545 from playing poker this year.

Negreanu has made it his annual tradition to post a detailed breakdown of everything that he has spent and earned playing poker, serving as a good example to others. He averaged buy-ins of $30,136 this year, which is admittedly above the average purchasing power of most poker players out there.

Negreanu Details His Overall Track Record in 2022

This is not by chance, either. Negreanu is currently the third all-time money player having amassed an eye-watering $49,924,496 over his career. Negreanu reminded followers that the final numbers, while enticing were not the whole story. In fact, the “profit” number excluded the subsequent expenses, taxes, swaps with players, and more.

His biggest success of the year was the $300,000 buy-in at the No-Limit Hold’em Super High Roller Bowl this fall. He won $3,312,000 in the event, highlighting his biggest success of the year, but not the only one. Still, the fact that he won that much from a single event means that Negreanu also had quite a few unsuccessful entries and the bankroll to continue playing despite all.

Poker, skill-based as it is, also sees players burn through piles of cash that they are hoping to make back. Negreanu entered other tournaments throughout the year, including the Wynn High Rollers, PokerGO Cup.

Volatile Year Saved by a “Lucky” Break

There was also the World Series of Poker Europe and No-Limit Hold’em Platinum High Roller, among many others. Understandably, Negreanu was teased about the fact that he won the bulk of his money off a single event and not by consistently performing well.

Fellow poker professional Allen Kessler asked Negreanu rhetorically what his winnings would look like if he removed the high roller win. Yet, Negreanu kept his cool and said that he counted both his winnings and losses and that focusing on the losses only was not actually how all players kept records of their winnings and losses.

Kessler and Negreanu did exchange a few tense comments, but Kessler acquiesced in the end that a year could truly be volatile for poker players and that everyone could learn from these results.

  • Resorts World Hudson Valley Casino Opens in New York

Resorts World Hudson Valley Casino Opens in New York

The casino is situated in the Newburgh Mall and promises to provide long-term employment opportunities and attract many new guests and visitors. Newburgh residents expressed optimism that the extra business will help revitalize the local community.

Resorts World Hudson Valley opened with fanfare on 28 December. The ribbon-cutting ceremony gathered representatives from the parent company Genting, local officials, and community leaders. Guests enjoyed a traditional Chinese lion dance performance and celebrated the occasion, sharing the hope that the new venue would enjoy lasting success.

Genting Americas East president Robert DeSalvio thanked everybody present for their efforts to realize the project, noting that the new casino would be a sizable boon to the local economy. The casino should hopefully provide a halo effect inside Newburgh Mall, boosting existing businesses and attracting new ones.

Along with our partners in Orange County, we are elated the casino is now open for business, and we can’t wait for the area to begin to reap the benefits.

Robert DeSalvio, Genting Americas East president

Resorts World Hudson Valley creates 250 new full-time jobs with an average annual wage of $72,000. The casino operator also contributes approximately $65 million in taxes yearly, supporting NYS public schools. DeSalvio noted that the new venue planned to attract hundreds of thousands of guests and visitors, kicking off with a bang during the holiday season.

Genting Will Continue to Invest Heavily in the Area

The new casino is located in a 60,000 square feet space formerly occupied by a Bon Ton department store. After a thorough renovation, it is home to 1200 top-of-the-line slot machines and 82 electronic table games, also housing the Resorts World Bet Sports Bar. The venue already enjoys great popularity as over a thousand people waited in line to be the first inside.

Locals welcomed the new business, expressing hope that the increased foot traffic would help revitalize the struggling Newburgh Mall, which dates back to the 1980s. In addition to the Bon Ton store, the mall recently lost its Sears store. However, the new attraction should hopefully reverse the trend and help put Newburgh on the map.

Resorts World Hudson Valley is the third Genting venue in New York, joining Resorts World Catskills in Monticello and Resorts World New York City in Queens. The operator invested $50 million in the newly opened casino and $1.2 billion across the state. Genting’s plans for New York also count on obtaining one of the state’s first full casino licenses, allowing the company to introduce live dealers and host table games such as poker, roulette, and blackjack.

The clubs themselves are packed with gambling machines and various forms of table gaming entertainment.

  • Mirage Las Vegas to Stay ‘Mirage’ Till 2025

Mirage Las Vegas to Stay ‘Mirage’ Till 2025

The ownership may have officially changed, but Mirage Las Vegas will remain the Mirage for at least another 18 months. Hard Rock International took over management of the casino resort from MGM Resorts on December 19th, but the anticipated name change will not come for some time.

Hard Rock made big Las Vegas news a year ago when they announced their plans to purchase and takeover Mirage Las Vegas. However, that proposal didn’t receive approval of the Nevada Gaming Commission until recently. And now that the $1.1 billion sale is official, some may be wondering when the name change and cosmetic alterations will take place.

There had been a lot of curiosity about other things as well, such as what would happen to the employees and the iconic attractions, like the Mirage volcano. Hard Rock has made it clear that at some point, am enormous guitar-shaped hotel building would be built. And now, we’re getting some clarity.

For the next 18 months or so, Hard Rock will operate the Mirage Las Vegas “as is”, which includes leaving the volcano in place for now. Eventually, however, the volcano will be removed. A company spokesperson for Hard Rock also confirmed that the 3,500 Mirage employees have been transitioned into Hard Rock’s workforce of over 45,000.

All day-to-day operations are now being kept as Mirage Las Vegas, including guest reservations and group bookings, so visitors shouldn’t notice any big changes right away. Worth noting is that Hard Rock is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, making them the first tribal-owned casino on The Strip.

The casino at the Virgin Hotel is run by the Mohegan Tribe, and The Palms is owned and operated by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. But neither of those properties are on Las Vegas Boulevard.

  • President Marcos Reaffirms Ban on E-sabong in the Philippines – Casino.org

President Marcos Reaffirms Ban on E-sabong in the Philippines – Casino.org

    Posted on: December 29, 2022, 10:39h.

    Last updated on: December 29, 2022, 10:39h.

When Rodrigo Duterte was president of the Philippines, after finally capitulating on the subject, he issued an executive order banning e-sabong. Betting on cockfights had fallen out of favor amid a series of scandals, and the country’s new president, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is going to keep that order intact.

    Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrives at an APEC meeting in November. He has signed a new executive order to permanently ban -e-sabong, online betting on cockfights. (Image: Reuters)

Duterte finally gave in and banned e-sabong this past May. However, that was only after news reports about mass kidnappings and people selling their babies to pay their debts came to light. The order doesn’t prevent cockfighting, only the practice of being able to wager on the activity online.

Marcos will let the suspension stand and extend it further. Although there has already been a major reduction in traffic, there are a number of kidnap victims whose whereabouts are still unknown.

    No Place For e-sabong

Marcos said the ban was an “urgent” requirement, given the status of the e-sabong space and the lack of resolution in the kidnapping cases. Whereas Duterte had implemented a suspension that could have allowed a return of online wagers, the president’s directive appears to be permanent.

E-sabong is now completely and definitively prohibited. The executive order covers any type of wagering on “live cockfighting matches, events, and/or streamed or broadcasted live, regardless of the location of the betting platform.”

The order doesn’t prevent the fights themselves. These are still legal but must follow established laws.

Philippine Amusement Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), the country’s gaming regulator and an operator of casinos, will ensure the prohibition is enforced. It will be responsible for coordinating with governments at all levels, as well as with private entities, to establish enforcement policies.

Assisting PAGCOR in its efforts will be the Department of the Interior and the Philippine National Police. The regulator will have to provide regular updates on its enforcement efforts directly to Marcos or his designee.

PAGCOR has already been in charge of curbing e-sabong as part of the injunction Duterte signed just before he left office. This should make it easy for the entity to continue with its new orders.

    Changing Attitudes Toward Gambling

Duterte tried to avoid shutting down e-sabong because of the revenue it brought to the country. It was an industry reportedly worth around PHP640 million (US$11.5 million) each month to the government.

However, the Philippines is currently redeveloping its approach toward gambling. The fall of its Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) segment, which ended in turmoil amid an increase in criminal activity, hurt the impression the gambling industry left on the country.

It didn’t help that a string of kidnappings tied to e-sabong emerged, with many questions still unanswered. The result of the continued bad publicity has been a call for the government to ban all forms of online gambling. However, this has yet to happen.

Instead, smaller governments are implementing their own bans. Pasig City, for example, announced this week that online gambling is no longer permitted.

All online gaming-related companies – even those who only provide technical services – have a year to leave. If they don’t, they face fines and, possibly, jail time.

PartyPoker Championship Winter Main Event Kicks Off; Hula Leads

The first of six PartyPoker Championship (PPC) Winter Main Event flights is in the bag, and it was Ukraine’s Ihor Hula who was the fastest out of the blocks. Hula shone brightly on Day 1A of the $530 buy-in $500,000 guaranteed tournament and has done his chances of glory no harm at all. Indeed, his colossal stack makes him one of the favorites to go deep in the PPC Winter Main Event even at this early stage.

Day 1A was the starting flight of choice for 175 PartyPoker players, but only 26 of them progressed to Day 2 on January 16. Tomas Fara, Team PartyPoker’s Patrick Leonard, Jerry Odeen, Diego Cuellar, Kenny Hallaert, and Tomi Brouk were a handful of players who busted before Day 1A concluded.

The aforementioned Hula saw his 500,000 chip starting stack swell to an incredible 11,248,789 by the time the curtain came down on proceedings. Hula has almost 2.5 million chips more than any other player in the field, with the average stack weighing in at 3.37 million.

Dominykas Joskas (8,838,498) bagged up enough chips for second place, with Samuel Vousden (5,968,294), Daniel Custodio (5,599,770), and Gabriel Schroeder (5,466,328) rounding out the top five.

Day 1A was a great flight for satellite winners, with no less than 11 of the 26 progressing players winning their $530 seat via PartyPoker’s weekly satellites. Patrik Kucera (5,034,617) and Anthony Weldon (4,340,064) finished with enough chips for a spot in the Day 1A top ten.

Other stars to look out for as this tournament progresses include Blaz Zerjav (4,952,326), Antoine Saout (4,325,095), Alexandre Raymond (2,427,381), and Alexandros Theologis (2,018,216).

  • Minnesota One Step Closer to Legalized Sports Betting

Minnesota One Step Closer to Legalized Sports Betting

Minnesota has long struggled to introduce proper sports betting regulations and implement legalized wagering. Despite the efforts of the Minnesota House, the Republican-controlled Senate refused to proceed with any significant reforms. However, with Democrats about to step in, the Land of 10,000 Lakes may finally get a chance to legalize sports betting.

The State Faced Several Failed Initiatives

Minnesota’s journey towards regulated sports wagering began in 2019 with a senate bill proposing that tribal casinos and racetracks be allowed to offer retail and limited mobile sports betting services. However, the suggestion met fierce resistance from the Indian Gaming Association amidst concerns that it would impact their profits and eventually fell to the wayside.

2021 marked another significant push towards legalized sports betting with the introduction of five new sports betting bills. None of them gained any traction, but the tribes finally conceded to the idea by the end of the year. Rep. Zack Stephenson and the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association expressed public support for a legalized wagering industry, clearing another significant milestone.

A new House Bill passing with approval through the State House in May 2022 sparked new hope for sports betting fans in the state. House Bill 778 initially envisions 11 online gaming licenses, exempting bets placed in person on a tribal property from any tax. Meanwhile, any bets placed on tribal land will have to meet a 10% tax levy. However, the Republican-controlled Senate blocked the initiative, leaving it dead in the water.

The Way for New Legislation Is Now Clear

Efforts to legalize sports wagering in Minnesota may finally take off in 2023 as the Democrats are about to take control of the Senate, House, and governor’s office, giving them free rein to implement reforms. According to DFL Senator Karla Bigham, new sports betting legislation is a distinct possibility in 2023 despite expected difficulties.

There are huge opponents to this topic on both sides of the aisle… no matter who’s in charge.

    Senator Karla Bigham

Bigham envisions a final draft that significantly favors the tribes, giving them control over most of the business with allowances for some cooperation with third parties. Mobile sports betting and venues outside tribal lands could also be an option if placed under the control of tribal casinos.

The state’s population of 5.5 million roughly equals that of Colorado, meaning that legalized sports wagering could net yearly revenues exceeding $25 million, bringing in significant tax income. Minnesota still has a long way to go, but with all relevant parties currently in favor of the reforms, it seems that 2023 may finally be the year of sports betting for Minnesota.

Elys Executive Chairman Ciavarella Says Stocks Isn’t Getting Credit

    Posted on: December 28, 2022, 02:26h.

    Last updated on: December 28, 2022, 02:42h.

Elys Game Technology (NASDAQ: ELYS), a gaming technology provider, entered Wednesday’s trading session with a market capitalization of just $7.61 million and a year-to-date loss of 87.79%, but the company says those statistics indicate financial markets don’t fully appreciate the underlying investment thesis.

    Elys
Elys Executive Chairman Michele Ciavarella in 2021 interview. He believes the stock is undervalued. (Image: Radius Research)

In a letter to investors today, Elys Executive Chairman Michele Ciavarella highlights a variety of issues, including the company’s path to profitability and why its tiny market cap belies what it frames as an attractive fundamental outlook.

The current value of our capital stock lacks credit for the value of our cutting-edge betting technology and engineering talent, our growing and profitable Italian operations, or our future growth potential, particularly in the US market, and in other global markets,” wrote Ciavarella.

He added that Elys’ share price remains depressed “due to circumstances beyond our control” and that’s affecting shareholder value. Shares of Elys are volatile. The stock came into Wednesday trading at around 36 cents. At this writing, it’s off 27.65% in late trading, but higher by 184.62% over the past week, and up 84% over the past month.

Expansion, Kiosks Key for Elys Game Technology

Elys Game Technology is a tech provider but it’s lumped in with sports wagering equities because the company provides sports betting kiosks to businesses, such as bars and restaurants, that hold permits to offer sports wagering to customers.

We currently have 7 signed locations in Washington D.C., 2 in Maryland, 1 in New Jersey and 6 tribal casino clients in 4 other states, and through our agreement with the Ohio Lottery, have already signed over 100 retail host locations to offer sports betting alongside their existing lottery kiosks in Ohio,” according to Ciavarella’s letter.

Elys is also providing sports betting kiosks and the related technology to a Washington, DC strip club, which will become the first such venue in the city to offer sports wagering to patrons. While that represents new business, the US capitol city hasn’t enthused Elys investors to date, though it’s possible Ohio will. Sports wagering is slated to go live there early in 2023.

“With our planned Ohio project getting underway over the coming months, we believe that the Company is at a key inflection point for future success and revaluation, Ciavarella wrote. “Indeed, we believe there could be significant opportunity in current and future operations that is not currently baked into our market valuation.”

    Other Points in Elys’ Favor

With its stock trading below $1, Elys could be a candidate for receiving a delisting notice from Nasdaq and could also face the specter of a reverse split, but there are some potentially attractive fundamentals that could support upside for the shares, including international exposure.

Through an agreement inked with Italy’s Lottomatica, Elys has geographic diversity. Perhaps more importantly, the company isn’t saddled with massive debt obligations as are so many gaming operators.

“Notably, the company’s strength lies in the lack of significant debt on our balance sheet and successful strategic execution of our cost containment exercises,” concluded Ciavarella.

    Caesars Released 2023 WSOP Schedule

We’re still a few days from 2023, but the gambling news is already exciting! Poker players and enthusiasts can officially save the dates for the 2023 WSOP. Caesars has officially announced that the richest, most prestigious, and longest-running poker series will return to the Strip at the new Las Vegas Horseshoe and Paris casinos on May 30th through July 18, 2023.

Last year’s WSOP tournament that saw nearly 200,000 entrants from more than 100 countries, and a record-breaking prize pool of $348 million. Bargain rates on hotel rooms are now available across many Caesars resorts specifically for the 2023 WSOP. Guests can book early for the 54th annual event by using the special code “WSOP23”. Rates are based on availability and are subject to change.

“The historic debut of the WSOP on the Las Vegas Strip delivered in a big way, and we’re excited to announce our Summer 2023 dates in time for the holidays,” said World Series of Poker Senior Vice President and Executive Director Ty Stewart. “Poker players and fans can now officially mark their calendars and maybe even book their loved ones or themselves a trip to the WSOP as a holiday gift. We’re glad to be back at Paris Las Vegas and the Horseshoe Las Vegas for another exciting chapter in the tournament’s history as these two resorts raised the bar in hosting last year’s event.”

The 2023 WSOP schedule will feature the always anticipated $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship, best known as “The Main Event,” along with new events and the return of timeless classics. The flagship opening event is being billed as “Mystery Millions,” a $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament featuring mystery bounties from $10,000 to $1 million for each knockout and a $1 million guaranteed first prize through the traditional prize pool. Last summer’s first mystery bounty event was a stunning success with a total of 14,112 entries and a $1,000,000 bounty won by poker pro Matt Glantz.

The 2022 “Main Event” was the second-largest field in the history of live poker, generating a whopping $80,782,475 prize pool from 8,663 entrants. “The Main Event” will once again feature four starting days to choose from of July 3, 4, 5, or 6. Due to the super deep stack nature of the event, players can also choose to buy in during either of the Day 2’s on July 7 or 8. The full schedule for the 2023 WSOP lists some notable tournaments, including important weekend-anchoring events with high demand.

  • Alex Fitzgerald Explains What to Do When Your Ace-King (AKA Big Slick) Misses

Alex Fitzgerald Explains What to Do When Your Ace-King (AKA Big Slick) Misses

    poker big slick

People always want to know what to do when their ace-king (AKA Big Slick) misses. Today, we will take a look at that question. To begin, let’s start with preflop play.

There are very few situations where you should not be reraising with your ace-king preflop. Generally, you want to increase the size of the pot when you have this hand. It is highly likely your opponents will raise and call preflop with weaker dominated hands. If they raise and call with ace-queen, king-queen, or something similar they are headed for a world of hurt. Should they flop to their hand they will go broke to you.

For this reason, we will start with the assumption that you are three-betting preflop. If you are playing tournaments, you can almost always call a four-bet. The stacks will be short enough to call and your opponent will be moving all in enough to justify the play.

Should you be playing a deeper stacked game then you can call versus a four-bet and decline to five-bet. You can take the flop from that point. Most people do not four-bet enough at these stack depths. You can trust that you have likely run into a hand, so you don’t need to get all your hundreds of blinds in with just a high card.

Now, let’s assume you reraised in position with your ace-king. Let’s start with that scenario. This will come up often. Your opponents do not like folding to reraises so you will be taking flops with them.

Let’s say you reraise the ace-king in position and you miss the flop. You can check back in this situation, but today we are going to discuss an exploitative play you can use.

    If You Miss… Exploit!

Look. It’s likely that no one has done as many private lessons as I have. I have watched more poker than any human ever should. I have gone through thousands of databases and watched tens of millions of hands.

When someone calls a reraise out of position they need to defend themselves. Calling huge bets out of position with a capped range is a weak play. To defend yourself when you do this play you need to check-raise more, donk lead more, float more, or something. What you can’t do is play fit-or-fold on the flop. That is a recipe to lose your ass off.

That said, that is what 98% of poker players do in this situation. In my private lessons, I can scream until I am blue in the face. It won’t matter. People still love calling out of position and then folding when they miss. At most, they will call a bet. What I can’t get most humans to do is check-raise bluff or call and then do something on a later street.

What this means for you is that you can bet small with your missed ace-king a lot of the time when you are in position. This will purchase you a cheap turn and river. This helps you realize your hand’s equity. Additionally, you will get value out of weaker ace-highs.

    Alex Fitzgerald
Alex Fitzgerald competing at the WSOP.

    What About the Turn?

You will likely end up checking the turn. After that, you can know that frequently your opponent will check their weaker ace-highs on the river since they have some showdown value. Many people will not turn those hands into bluffs. If they have less than ace-high it is probable that they folded that hand on the flop, so they are not bluffing with it at that river moment.

The wild players tend to stick out in your mind because they are less common.

Of course, there are some players who are wild enough to justify your hero calling with an ace-high on the river. You can usually identify these players by their inability to fold on the flop and a high river aggression frequency. If you are playing live, you will notice that this person never likes to fold to the first flop bet and is always betting when one street gets checked down. That said, there are not as many of these players as people think there are. The wild players tend to stick out in your mind because they are less common. If everybody was playing like that their generic play would become less memorable in your mind.

Out of position and heads-up with ace-kinging is trickier. There are not as many hard and fast rules with out-of-position play. You have to wing it more. That’s why it’s dangerous.

What has worked for me well in the past is betting 1/3rd pot heads up when I have my ace-king high. Almost no one in position wants to fold to the first continuation-bet, especially when it is that small. That allows me to get value from all of my opponent’s floats. On the turn, I check and call because most players will go ahead and bet all of the hands they floated with at that point.

On the river, you have to make a judgment call. Is this the type of person who could put the river bet in with just a high card?

Typically, aggressive preflop behavior will be a good hint as to someone’s post-flop behavior. If someone struggles to even do a basic three-bet bluff, then you are less likely to see them fire multiple shells post flop. That said, this rule is ironclad. There are many people willing to do small bluffs preflop who actually are not capable of firing big post-flop bets.

Alex Fitzgerald Shares 5 Ways to Know If You are Running Bad or Playing Badly

    And the River

It’s not a perfect system, but until you have extra information it is better to fold more rivers. Many common players struggle to bluff at the correct frequencies. As you move up in stakes you will be forced to call more. If you are playing lower stakes, especially versus North American competition, I would not give the common player credit for firing a large river bluff that will get called a significant percentage of the time.

“That being said, in a multi-way pot if you see action it is probable that your ace-king is losing.”

In multiway pots, things get even hairier. Bluff betting should decrease. With multiple players in the pot, it is far more likely someone has hit a pair that they are unwilling to fold. You also are blocking most of the high cards that would be folding to a bet, so you’re not exactly cashing out your equity when you fire. Your high cards still have value, and it is less likely someone will fire with nothing into multiple people. That being said, in a multi-way pot if you see action it is probable that your ace-king is losing. Worse, if your opponent has an ace kicker with their pair, you actually have pronounced reverse implied odds. If the turn gives you top pair top kicker it will simultaneously give them two pair. Caution is advised.

Those are some broad strokes for how to play ace-king when the hand misses. Of course, this is not a complete guide. This is akin to you asking me how to play a missed ace-king 10 minutes before a game starts. I have to use some generalizations that I’m not in love with due to the lack of time I have with you.

If you want to get better at playing ace-king when it misses, I’d recommend you check out this free course I put together.

In this course, I put you in a number of exams and analyze your answers. I also teach you what to do when you hit your ace-king. You will learn how to get max value from ace-king when you hit and when you miss.

  • Wynn Resorts Likely To Carry High Leverage Throughout 2023

Wynn Resorts Likely To Carry High Leverage Throughout 2023

    Posted on: December 27, 2022, 06:15h.

    Last updated on: December 27, 2022, 06:43h.

Leverage at Wynn Resorts’ (NASDAQ: WYNN) financing unit is poised to remain elevated over the next 12 to 18 months, as the casino operator looks to get back on track in Macau.

    Wynn Resorts
Wynn Palace in Macau. Leverage for operator Wynn Resorts is expected to stay high in 2023. (Image: CNBC)

In a recent report, Moody’s Investors Service forecasts leverage of 7.3x to 9.5x earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) up to the next 18 months for Wynn Resorts Finance, LLC. That’s the gaming company’s financing business, which also encompasses capital needs for Wynn Macau. While those ratios are high, they’re far better than 23.2x reported for the 12 months ending September 2022. Much of the gaming company’s ability to pare leverage in 2023 could boil down to the strength of Macau’s rebound.

For Macau’s VIP segment, we expect… GGR to remain substantially below the 2019 level even in 2023-2024 because of the increasing regulatory scrutiny over the segment and the weakened junket sector,” noted Moody’s.

The research firm has a junk rating of “B1,” with a negative outlook on Wynn Resorts Finance. That credit grade has been in effect since December 2021, and is considered speculative. Bonds with that ratings are “subject to substantial credit risk.”

    Wynn Resorts Finding Momentum

Over the past month, shares of Wynn Resorts are higher by 12.55%, trimming the stock’s year-to-date decline to just 0.83%. That’s noticeably better than the broader market and the gaming complex.

The previously scuffling casino stock is picking up the pace to close 2022 amid a spate of encouraging headlines — namely Macau’s decision to renew the licenses of the six established concessionaires, including Wynn Macau — and China’s recent call to scrap its zero-COVID policy.

Both issues were significant overhangs on Wynn shares. But with both out the window for now, analysts are optimistic that Wynn can generate more upside for investors in 2023. That’s while potentially making inroads when it comes to debt reduction. However, the stock isn’t a risk-free bet.

Wynn Finance’s junk credit rating is indicative of “lingering earnings weakness from efforts to contain the coronavirus and the slow recovery in Macau visitation and revenue,” according to Moody’s.

Macau is Wynn’s largest market, and a resurgence there is essential to longer-running upside for the shares and a possible credit upgrade. But Moody’s also highlighted strength in the operator’s other markets of Boston and the Las Vegas Strip. The Las Vegas-based company is also eyeing possible entry into New York City.

    Speaking of Credit Upgrade…

While there’s obvious optimism pertaining to Macau heading into 2023, it could be some time before gross gaming revenue (GGR) there returns to pre-pandemic levels. As such, it’s also likely to take a while before concessionaires, including Wynn, are positioned for credit upgrades.

Moody’s says Wynn would need to drive its debt/EBITDA ratio to 6x before a credit rating upgrade would be feasible.

Such action requires Macau “casinos to remain open and ramp up closer to normal utilization” and a “restoration of sufficient earnings to generate meaningful positive free cash flow before discretionary development spending,” concluded Moody’s.

Bernard Lee Continues 12-Year Holiday Tradition of Helping Boston-Area Homeless Families

One of poker’s longest-running traditions during the holiday season is that of poker player and media personality Bernard Lee helping homeless families in the Boston area. For the 12th year in a row, Lee and his family were busy helping those in need, which included gifting customized holiday gift packages to 65 children and 40 families experiencing.

Lee’s initiative, The Full House Charity Program, arrange customized holiday packages, which include winter clothing, books, toys, games, sports equipment, and art supplies. Lee and his children, who work side-by-side with him each year, also provide each child with his or her own stuffed animal.

“My children and I look forward to this holiday tradition, as it brings so much joy and happiness to my family,” said Lee. “We feel blessed to provide holiday gifts to these families, especially the children who may not have been able to afford such gifts during this difficult time. Thankfully, we have a wonderful partner in FamilyAid, who helps us deliver these packages to specific families in Boston. Additionally, thank you to my RunGoodGear family, who every holiday season donate toys to my cause. Happy Holidays to everyone.”

For the past seven years, Bernard has joined forces with FamilyAid to provide customized packages to the families.

“FamilyAid is thrilled and grateful that Bernard Lee is providing gifts to the children in our shelters again this holiday season. His generous donations come at a time when families are facing more limited financial resources than ever. For many struggling families, providing holiday gifts is daunting, if not impossible,” said FamilyAid President Larry Seamans. “Thanks to Bernard and his family, children in our care will have presents to enjoy and parents will be relieved to see their children’s smiles. We thank the Lee Family for their continuing generosity, compassion, and commitment.”

Not only that, RunGoodGear (RGG) and the RunGood Poker Series (RGPS), which recently concluded its season-ending Pro-AM in Las Vegas (Survivor’s “Boston” Rob Mariano won that tournament), has served as one of the primary sponsors of the program. RGG and its ambassadors have provided funds to help provide specific toys for these needy children.

“It has been amazing to see Bernard year after year provide a special holiday for families,” emphasized Tana Karn, President and Founder of RunGoodGear.com “The RunGood team and I are thankful to be able to help Bernard bring about a memorable holiday season for this year and more to come.”

Lee launched his Full House Charity Program in February 2011, and has since provided more than $100,000 worth of goods and funds to children-focused organizations in New England. The program has helped over 450 families and 750 children during its history.

  • A Not-Too-Disturbing Farewell – Gambling With An Edge

A Not-Too-Disturbing Farewell – Gambling With An Edge

In Las Vegas blackjack circles, the El Cortez in downtown Las Vegas is well-known for having a decent single-deck game — aside from the fact that they are extremely quick to pull the trigger on kicking players out. Several blackjack teams send their new players to play there, knowing they’ll be kicked out fairly quickly, just to get the first barring out of the way.

About ten years ago, I played some on a dollar Kings or Better Joker Wild machine — which was worth 100.65% before the slot club. (That game is long gone now, as is most other decent video poker there.) As luck would have it, I hit a $4,000 royal flush after playing maybe 500 hands. The game has a royal cycle of 41,214 hands, so nobody was more surprised than I was. There were some bonuses with jackpots (maybe $10 free play and a Dove bar?), which I collected. Elsewhere at that time, I was playing mostly dollar multi-line, as well as $5 and $25 games, and was somewhat embarrassed to be seen hitting a royal on such a small machine. (Today, I’m not welcome to play the games I’d prefer to play, so you may well find me playing dollar single-line somewhere.)

It was not a small machine insofar as the El Cortez management was concerned. A $4,000 jackpot was something to sweat! I heard through the grapevine that I was almost kicked out for that one jackpot! For a new player, I found the good machines immediately, lived in a zip code more than 15 miles away, and had the nerve to hit a royal flush. That added up in their mind to being close to a “kick the SOB out” decision. They didn’t at the time, but it was close. They were, and are, extremely quick to pull the plug on players they deem a threat.

I had no more play there until earlier this year. In passing, I had seen a television news show scanning that casino, and I noticed two Ultimate X Gold machines in the scan. I’ve been studying that game a little and I thought I’d go in and look at them.

There were only the two machines I saw on television. They came in 1¢, 2¢, 5¢, 10¢, and 25¢ denominations — and each of these in Triple Play, Five Play, and Ten Play. Each of these offered eight different games, Jacks or Better, Double Bonus, Deuces Wild, etc. It takes ten coins per line to play.

I never looked at the penny or two-penny games. For the nickel games, I’d look at the Ten Play version ($5 per play). I’d look at all of those, plus all the ones for dimes and quarters. Quarter Ten Play in this game is $25 per play. I was actually using these machines to practice my UXG skills so I could play bigger-denomination games elsewhere.

All UX games involve multipliers, and UXG is a game where multipliers build up and remain until they are hit. Without going into explicit detail, a competent player looks for games where there are enough multipliers that are high enough. If a game doesn’t meet your criteria, you skip it and go on to the next one. As these machines were configured, I had 56 different individual games to check on each of the two machines. This takes some time.

There were usually a few plays on each of the machines. I assume if I looked at the penny and two-penny games I’d find a lot more plays because there’s a better chance that players at those denominations have less of an understanding of how the game should be played and hence leave juicy multipliers all the time. But playing games for such miniscule stakes is of no interest to me.

I played once every two or three weeks. I have other plays downtown so I’m “in the area” fairly frequently. Remembering how trigger-happy they were a decade previously, I figured if I became known as a “regular” on those machines, especially if I managed to win, I’d be toast there once I became recognized. I assume management there was generally aware that these games were exploitable, even if they couldn’t personally do it. The casino has some exploitable slots as well, so I’d check them out while I was there.

I’m not sure how much it takes to earn a slot club point on these machines, but if you earn 300 points in a day you get a wheel spin at the kiosk. Sometimes it is $10 in free play. Sometimes it is $10 food. Usually, it is 100 free drawing tickets — which are absolutely worthless to me. They have regular small drawings that aren’t worth the effort to go down there, in my opinion.

On maybe my 15th visit, the general manager came up to me while I was playing UXG and told me I wasn’t welcome to play there anymore. I hadn’t hit any W-2Gs or had big wins. He didn’t recognize me as Bob Dancer. He just didn’t want players coming in and checking multipliers on the UXG machines.

It was civil enough. No security officers were involved, I was paid for my accumulated slot club points, and I left without incident. I wasn’t officially trespassed, and I assume that if I want to go into their restaurant and pay retail for food that I can do so.

Insofar as barrings go, this one made me smile more than anything else. It was never going to be a major stop for me and the games were marginally profitable to me at best.

I would have preferred not to have been barred, of course, but in no way was this a traumatic experience.

Video Poker versus Live Poker – Gambling With An Edge

This post is syndicated by the Las Vegas Advisor for the 888 casino group. Anthony Curtis comments on the 888 article introduced and linked to on this page.

A.C. says: Poker has been the basis for many new games, with video poker being, by far, the most successful of them. This article provides a good comparison of live and video poker, which boils down to the differences between playing against a human or a machine. I’d add as an illustrative example that in live-game draw poker, it can be strategic to hold a kicker to set up a bluff. You don’t hold kickers in video poker … you can’t bluff a machine. As pointed out in the article, becoming a winning player at live poker requires developing multiple skills and infusing judgment, while video poker is black and white — there’s always one best play. Players can calculate video poker returns and proper playing strategies, but they don’t have to. That’s already been done for them in the work of Bob Dancer, Jean Scott, and others. Study with the good video poker learning tools out there and you can achieve a near-computer-perfect return.

This article was written by Jerry Stich in association with 888casino.

    Video Poker versus Live Poker

The Poker-matic machine introduced video poker to the casinos. Since then, video poker has grown and become hugely popular.

Video poker has been around for decades. Live poker (played with a 52-card deck) has been around for nearly two centuries. It, too, has become extremely popular, especially after the World Series of Poker began in 1970.

While video poker is based on live poker, the two games are drastically different.

Nick Maimone Among Latest GGPoker WSOP Winter Circuit Champions

Nick Maimone helped himself to more than $114,000 the week before Christmas when he won a pair of tournaments online at GGPoker. He continued his impressive form by taking down the $1,050 Naughty or Nice Bounty, part of the GGPoker WSOP Winter Circuit, for $157,755 and a shony, gold WSOP Circuit ring.

The $1,050 Naughty or Nice Bounty was the 12th ring-awarding event on the bustling WSOP Winter Circuit schedule. Some 1,399 players bought in and created a guarantee-busting prize pool worth $1,399,000. That chunky pot meant nobody at the final table took home less than $12,763 with bounties included.

Juan Vecino‘s time at the nine-handed final table was short-lived because he was the first grinder heading for the exits. The likes of “1_2_3” of Latvia, “CZG2009,” “OpusAsu,” and “ilvali” busted, leaving only four players in the hunt for the title and a six-figure hau.

The final four became three when Bryan Paris bowed out, then two when Finland’s Andreas Nasman ran out of steam. Heads-up saw Maimone lock horns with “RojerBauRICH” and got the job done, defeating his final opponent. Victory came with $157,755, the title of champion, and a WSOP Circuit ring.

Only 322 of those starters made it though to the final day, and it was Daniel “Vanessa23” Montagnolli who was the last player standing when the dust settled.

Montagnolli overcame a tough final table that saw Leonid Yankovski, Bojan “22blok22CZ” Berberovic, and Dimitrios Michailidis take their seats but fail to go deeper than fourth place. The Austrian champion-elect eventually found himself heads-up against “SlimLady” of Cyprus in a battle for a huge final bounty payment, one worth more than first-place prize money! Kulev Crowned Deepstack Champion

    Alex Kulev
    Alex Kulev

There are few poker tournament grinders that can match Alex “FutureofMe” Kulev‘s rise from the mid-stakes to the high-stakes world. The Ireland-based Bulgarian is a phenomenal talent and has been crushing the high stakes scene of late.

Kulevrecently won the GGPoker Super MILLION$ for a career-best $538,138. Now he has another $189,841 plus a WSOP Circuit ring, thanks to outlasting 946 opponents in the $1,500 Deepstack Championship NLH.

The final table of the $1,500 Deepstack Championship was a star-studded affair, as you would expect from such a high buy-in event. Anatoly Filatov, Maxim “Nesher_boy” Sheingart, and Matias “PrisonMike69” Arosuo were the first trio of stars heading for the exits. They were joined by Pulkit Goyal, Alexandros Theologis, Joel Nystedt, then Joshua McCully, the latter falling in third place and securing the event’s first six-figure score.

Kulev fought it out with the United Kingdom’s “LondonJon” in what was essentially a $47,500 heads-up sit & go! No deal was struck, so Kulev collcted $189,841 when he brushed his final opponent aside, resigning the runner-up to a $142,360 consolation prize.

    “darklion” Roars to COLOSSUS Victory

The $400 Christmas COLOSSUS NLH concluded on boxing day with a heads-up deal that saw those two players pad their GGPoker bankrolls with more than $600,000! Some 9,442 players bought in across the various Day 1s, with 1,155 making it through to Day 2, each sharing the common goal of scooping some of the $3,550,192 prize pool.

Seasoned grinders Mauricio “Promoking” Ferreira Pais, Abhinav “OBellaCiao” Iyer, Ramon “lekdoidoo” Sorgatto, and Timothy Cramer reached the nine-handed final table but could not quite finish the job.

Eventually, “darklion” found themselves heads-up against “Grind4Libertad” and the heads-up duo struck a deal to less the huge pay jumps. That deal resulted in Grind4Libertad taking home $310,732 when they fell in second place, and darklion getting their hands, or should that be paws, on a $297,842 payday.

Las Vegas ‘Life Coach’ Arrested for Gambling Away Millions in Ponzi Scheme – Casino.org

    Posted on: December 26, 2022, 07:43h.

    Last updated on: December 26, 2022, 11:44h.

A Las Vegas man is in custody for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme in which he pretended to invest for clients in the stock market and on sports bets, promising them returns from 1% to 52%. Instead, their money funded a personal gambling addiction that saw him lose millions of their dollars in Las Vegas casinos.

Rodney Buckle, 65, was arrested on Dec. 13, on a warrant for charges including securities fraud and theft, according to court documents identified by KLAS-TV. Buckle’s codefendant, Warisra Stevens, pleaded guilty last year to securities fraud and theft conspiracy charges. A judge sentenced her to a minimum of 19 months in prison.

This isn’t Buckle’s first tangle with authorities. According to KLAS, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a judgment in 1999 ordering him to pay $3 million in restitution to victims he sold $3 million worth of unregistered securities to while making false and misleading representations.

    Good Morning, Professor Ponzi!

This time around, Buckle gained his victims’ trust by posing as an instructor in his money-making methods. Through businesses called Rodd University, Rodd United, and Rodd One, Buckle posed as a “life coach and financial advisor,” investigators with the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office wrote in documents.

At some point, Buckle would tell all his “students” that he required more money “to create a ‘waterfall’ effect in order to generate ‘new’ money for investments” that would guarantee their returns, investigators wrote. The victims then took out loans, refinanced their homes, or opened up new credit cards.

“Investors stated that Buckle showed them a spreadsheet on his computer listing their name, and the amount they invested with him,” investigators wrote, “The investment amounts ranged from anything to $100 to over $700,000.”

Stevens, identified in documents as Buckle’s girlfriend, told investigators that Buckle withdrew nearly $25,000 a week of his victims’ money “for personal use and gambling.” Buckle placed $2.4 million worth of wagers at the Westgate Hotel and Casino sportsbook, where he lost $76,000, according to investigators. He also bet $440,000 at the South Point casino and lost $434,000.

State investigators were tipped off to Buckle’s new businesses in 2017. They were contacted by a couple who complained when they were never paid the 50% percent return they were promised on tens of thousands they  had given him. They were ignored when they asked Buckle for some of it back due to a recent cancer diagnosis, investigators said.

In 2017, state investigators raided Buckle’s residence, seizing items including computers and gaming tickets. A warrant for his and Stevens’ arrest was issued in December 2019. According to KLAS, it appeared as though Buckle turned himself in.

A judge ordered Buckle held without bail, KLAS reported. He is due in court in January.
