Severe weather will continue throughout the holiday week. Here are flood and evacuation warnings as well as information about chain controls.
CALIFORNIA, USA — Severe weather, including valley rain and Sierra snow, will continue amid the holidays and is expected to impact travel.
There are five consecutive days of Weather Impact Alert conditions: Monday, Dec. 22 to Friday, Dec. 26. During this time, there are two rounds of storms without a break in between.
The first storm is underway. Monday will have on-and-off light to moderate showers with a chance of thunderstorms. On-and-off lighter showers will continue through the first part of Tuesday. Then, Wednesday is projected to bring early rain, gusty winds and snow.
On Sunday, nine people were evacuated from a home in Placer County due to South Yuba River flooding caused by heavy rains. As of 3 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office said there is slight decrease in the river levels. One home remains evacuated, and an evacuation warning is still in place along the South Yuba River between Donner Pass and Cisco Road.
Hampshire Rocks Road remains closed between Donner Pass and Cisco roads, per the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
STORM UPDATES
A Winter Storm Warning was issued for the Sierra/Southern Cascades above 4,500 feet from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 10 p.m. Friday and for the Coast Range/ Shasta County Mountain above 3,500 feet from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Friday.
A High Wind Watch was also issued for the Valley, Delta and Sierra foothills from late Tuesday afternoon through 4 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service is forecasting southeast wind of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph.
The city of Stockton has cancelled due to weather its Pet Pantry event on Tuesday. The Pet Pantry, held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, provides pet food to owners in need.

Chain Controls, as of 4:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22:
Chain control has been dropped for Interstate 80 over Donner Summit, the California Highway Patrol’s Truckee office said.
“Before you celebrate too hard, it’s still slick out there, so take it slow! This is just a short break,” officials wrote in a news release via social media. “A major winter storm is expected Christmas Eve through Christmas, bringing heavy snow back to the Sierra.”
