ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A man is in custody after police said an investigation that began on Hudson Avenue led them to Western Avenue.

Police were called to the 400-block of Hudson Avenue around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday for an unresponsive woman. The 61-year-old victim was found with a significant head injury. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they were led to the woman’s brother’s house on Western Avenue after they said he fled that scene on Hudson Avenue.

For hours on Wednesday dozens of officers could be seen both inside and outside of a home on the 100 block of Western Avenue. The police said they arrested the 60-year-old man who is accused of killing his sister.

A neighbor told NEWS10’s James De La Fuente police stormed the multi apartment house on Western Avenue just after 11 a.m. “I opened up my door of my apartment door and there was like six or seven like swat guys here. Full gear, face mask, all carrying, you know, assault rifles.” The neighbor said he knew the siblings and had many fond interactions with the victim. “That’s horrible. And I’ve met his sister; she’s been here plenty of times. Really nice woman and I know first-hand, I know that she really took care of her brother you know she helped him out a lot. And when I heard that it was her my heart just fell from my chest down to my feet.”

A quick look into the apartment where the suspect allegedly barricaded himself shows a very messy scene. The front door was visibly on the floor with a cord tied around the handle in an effort to likely keep police out. Albany Police said that the 60-year-old suspect was taken into custody around 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Before clearing the scene, a vehicle was seen loaded onto the flatbed of a tow truck.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned Thursday morning in Albany City Court.
