Britney denies claims she grabbed Victor Wembanyama before slap

Victor Wembanyama clarified what happened during his Wednesday night encounter with Britney Spears, claiming the pop star didn’t merely tap him on the shoulder before his security guard allegedly slapped her.

According to the NBA rookie, Spears “grabbed [him] from behind,” leading to the intense situation. The incident took place as the 7′5″ basketball phenom was entering Catch restaurant at the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas.

Wembanyama shared his side of the story during a post-workout interview with KENS 5 reporter Nate Ryan on Thursday, although Spears has since denied his version of events.

Wembanyama — widely regarded as one of the most promising basketball prospects since LeBron James — explained there were numerous people near the restaurant calling out to him. However, his security detail had advised him not to stop in order to prevent creating a commotion.

One woman who persistently sought Wembanyama’s attention eventually made her way through the crowd and grabbed him.

“I didn’t see what happened, because I was walking straight and we were told, ‘Don’t stop,’” Wembanyama told reporters.

“But that person grabbed me from behind — not on my shoulder, she grabbed me from behind — and so I just know the security pushed her away,” he added. “I don’t know with how much force, though.”

The Spurs’ fresh-faced newcomer said he didn’t know the woman was Spears until hours later, because he didn’t see her face.

Spears, who claimed she was slapped in the altercation, later filed a police report against the security guard, alleging assault.

In response to Wembanyama’s statement, Spears took to social media Thursday to contradict his claims.

“I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success,” she wrote. “It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. I am aware of the player’s statement where he mentions ‘I grabbed him from behind’ but I simply tapped him on the shoulder.”

Spears went on to maintain that one of the security guards “backhanded” her in the face, causing her glasses to fall off and nearly knocking her to the ground.

Despite initial reports that the security guard in question later found Spears in the restaurant and apologized for what happened, she claims she has “yet to get a public apology from the player, his security or their organization.”
