RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — As of 5 pm Sunday, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued Tropical Storm Warnings from Edisto Beach, South Carolina northward to Ocracoke Inlet, North Carolina.
This means tropical storm conditions are expected in the warned area over the next 24 to 48 hours. The National Hurricane Center is now calling the system off the coast Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight.
In the latest advisory, maximum sustained winds for the disturbance are near 45 mph with higher gusts.

The NHC also said that “tropical storm force winds were detected extend outward up to 175 miles from the center and additional strengthening is possible before landfall.”
As this system moves inland, heavy rain and storms are expected in Central North Carolina on Monday, which is why the CBS 17 Storm Team already issued a Storm Team Alert Day for the entire area.

The greatest risk from this system will be heavy rain and localized flooding. Most of the area will receive 2-4″ with isolated totals over 6″.
The saturated ground may also combine with tropical storm-force wind gusts which may result in isolated power outages.
This is a developing weather story. Stay tuned for additional updates from the CBS 17 Storm Team.
