A Brazilian poker player and bracelet winner was suspended indefinitely from the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) after he added extra chips to his stack at the currently underway BSOP Millions festival in Sao Paulo.

The incident occurred on Day 2 of the Latin America Poker Tour (LAPT) BRL 5,000 buy-in Mystery KO (Event #30 of BSOP Millions). According to Brazil’s Super Poker, Rafael Caiaffa was given a starting stack of 100,000 chips as he registered the event and received an additional starting stack from the dealer when he arrived at the table.

Video surveillance revealed that Caiaffa put the initial starting stack in his backpack and, upon moving to another table, attempted to add on the extra stack. MundoPoker reported that fellow Brazilian Eduardo Silva noticed Caiaffa was down to 10,000 chips before he showed up with a stack of 110,000 at the new table.

BSOP CEO Devanir Campos confirmed on X that Caiaffa had accidentally received an extra stack, but despite earlier reports was the only player who did.

Caiaffa Admits To Adding Chips

After getting tossed from the LAPT event and suspended from the BSOP festival, Caiaffa admitted to adding on the extra stack and acknowledged that his suspension was fair.

Here is an English translation of what Caiaffa told Marcelo Souza, editor of Card Player Brasil:

“The truth was this: I entered the Mystery KO max late and they handed me 200,000 chips, 100,000 on the island and another 100,000 on the table. I realized right away that I received more, and I even mentioned it to a friend of mine. I told him that I would return it soon, but it happened that they broke my table at the time, we only played three hands. Then I thought: ‘it won’t change anything if I keep the chips, it was their mistake’. But obviously, I was the one who made the mistake. I don’t take away my responsibility. A player at my table noticed and spoke up, and he’s more than right. The floor came and saw everything that happened. I also told the truth and he eliminated me.”
