Crews on Tuesday recovered the body of a missing teen who disappeared after going into the American River in Sacramento County, officials said Wednesday. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said it began working on a water rescue call at 2:44 p.m. Tuesday at the El Manto access point in Rancho Cordova.Sac Metro Fire Captain Mark Nuñez said a 25-year-old man was pulled from the water by someone who saw them go under, but a teen who was also in the water was nowhere to be seen.“We believe that they were not wearing life vests,” Nuñez. said.After 4 p.m. Tuesday, officials said the search had transitioned into a recovery mission. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office took over the search with its dive teams at 5 p.m.Details on the condition of the person pulled from the water are not known but they were flown out by helicopter. Nuñez told KCRA 3 that this is the second fatal drowning at Clay Banks this year. “The water’s still very cold, moving very fast through this area,” Nuñez said. Crews stopped the search just before 9 p.m. due to visibility and resumed the search at 7 a.m. Wednesday.Sacramento County Regional Parks confirmed to KCRA 3 around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday that the teen’s body was recovered.
