Fans at the Alamo Drafthouse in South Lamar, Texas, were in for a spectacular treat on August 13, 2025, as Academy Award-nominated actor Austin Butler and Academy Award-nominated director Darren Aronofsky made a special appearance for an exclusive screening of their gripping new crime thriller, Caught Stealing.
The event was elevated by the surprise presence of fellow actor and beloved Texas native Matthew McConaughey, who dropped by to host the evening, leading a captivating discussion with the film’s star and director about the making of the wildly anticipated movie. The atmosphere was electric as the trio shared the stage, all smiles as they posed for photos and delved into the intricacies of the project, much to the delight of both press and fans in attendance.
The film itself stars Austin Butler in a transformative role as Hank Thompson, a former high-school baseball phenom whose life is suddenly upended when he is violently thrust into the dangerous criminal underworld of New York City. Butler’s character has a great girl, played by Zoë Kravitz, and tends bar at a New York dive, contentedly watching his favorite team make an underdog run at the pennant, until his punk-rock neighbor Russ, portrayed by Matt Smith, asks him to take care of his cat for a few days.
This simple favor spirals into a relentless nightmare, as Hank inexplicably finds himself caught in the middle of a motley and threatening crew of gangsters who all want a piece of him, forcing him to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to figure out why he has become their target.
Directed by Darren Aronofsky from a screenplay by Charlie Huston, based on his book of the same name, the film boasts a formidable ensemble cast including Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio, and Carol Kane. Caught Stealing is set to take audiences in the Philippines on its own wild ride starting September 10th in cinemas nationwide.
