Chances are your garden and lawns are pretty dry too.
The Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service says just 0.32 inches of rain fell in New Philadelphia in August — 3.33 inches less than normal.
It was the second-driest August on record. The driest August was in 2015, when just 0.16 inches of rain fell.

The end of August marked the end of so-called meteorological summer.
And it was a dry one in Dover/New Philadelphia.
The weather service says 7.78 inches of rain fell in New Philadelphia between June 1 and Aug. 31 — some 3.84 inches below average. That makes it the seventh-driest summer on record.

The average temperature for the summer months was 72.9 degrees, making it the eighth-warmest on record. The average high for the summer months was 83.6 degrees and the average low, 62.2 degrees — the fifth-warmest on record. The highest temperature was 94 degrees, recorded on June 24 and Aug. 16. The lowest was 39 degrees on June 1 and 2.
Is there a drought in New Philadelphia?
The U.S. Drought Monitor says roughly half of Ohio is in need of rain.
All of Tuscarawas County is considered “abnormally dry” as a result of the parched summer. Most surrounding counties are abnormally dry as well — only the northwest portion of Wayne County has so far avoided the designation.
Parts of northern Ohio are experiencing drought conditions.
