(BCN) — Police in Union City are investigating what they believe was an attempted home invasion robbery, the department said Sunday.
On Friday at 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of several armed suspects outside a residence. Initially, police believed it could be a case of kidnapping, but the child involved was found safe inside the home and no abduction had occurred.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the crime is now believed to have been an attempted home invasion robbery, the department said.
According to police, a girl was outside her residence when she saw the approaching suspects. She ran inside her residence and notified her family to call the police. The suspects fled the area immediately after being confronted by the residents.
The suspects are described as four males wearing dark hooded sweatshirts and face masks. At least two of them were armed with handguns. They were seen leaving the area in a white Ford Taurus, according to police.

The Union City Police Department does not believe that this case is related to an attempted kidnapping reported earlier in the week, “as the circumstances and suspect descriptions are not consistent between the two cases,” they said.
Anyone with information helpful to this case is being asked to contact Det. Michael Bedford at (510) 675-5266 or michaelb@unioncity.org.
