As journalists, politicians and celebrities mingled at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Biden took a few jabs at his age and his political rivals. But he struck a somber tone as he hailed the free press as a “pillar of a free society” and called for the release of imprisoned journalists Austin Tice and Evan Gerskovich.
