The dedicated healthcare staff at Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center delivered a dozen babies on February 29, aka Leap Day.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Doctors and nurses at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center delivered a dozen leap-year babies.

To mark their unique birthdays, a nurse at Shady Grove’s Birth Center hand-knitted frog caps for new babies to wear.

One proud Leap Day mommy, Kiara Beltran, and her husband Pedro Cruz welcomed their son, Enzo, into the world. Big Enzo entered the world weighing in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces. Beltran’s family mentioned that she could go into labor on Leap Day because her due date was originally on March 3, but she didn’t think it would happen. Of course, since Leap Day only comes around every four years, the family has decided to celebrate Enzo’s birthday on February 28 in non-leap years. The number eight holds a special meaning for their family.

Another proud Leap Day mom, McKenzie Knott, welcomed a beautiful baby girl. Autumn pranced into the world weighing in at 8 pounds-12 ounces. Knott’s due date was February 27, but she knew that it was possible Autumn would fall a little later. The new mother plans to celebrate Autumn’s birthday on March 1 during non-leap years.
