PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Authorities are investigating a possible arson after a fire damaged the car, carport and home of Portland City Councilor Candace Avalos overnight Sunday.
Portland Fire & Rescue officials say they responded to reports of the fire in the Mill Park neighborhood at around 2:40 a.m.
PFR noted there is now an open and active investigation into the cause of the fire.

In a statement, Councilor Avalos said authorities are investigating this as a possible arson, noting she “woke up to [her] car, car port, and home engulfed in flames.”
“I’m grateful for the quick response from Portland firefighters who prevented the fire from spreading even further,” she said.
Avalos added she and her cat, Valentino, managed to escape the blaze.
“I’m being supported by my wonderful friends, neighbors, and loved ones as I navigate what comes next,” she said.
