Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department’s (CAHSD) Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) launches another round of grants as part of the Safe in the 305 grant program, which encourages residents and community stakeholders to develop and lead initiatives to enhance safety in their neighborhoods.
The grant program is a component of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s Peace & Prosperity Plan. ONS will be accepting applications through Mar. 1.
“Keeping our communities safe requires teamwork. Working hand-in-hand with residents, community-based organizations, businesses and law-enforcement is essential,” Mayor Levine Cava said. “Under my administration, our county is working proactively and collaboratively to address crime and gun violence with initiatives like Safe in the 305 and other programs that empower residents and strengthen their trust in our public safety programs.”
The grants will be awarded to projects that address efforts focused on community blight, supporting youth development, strengthening mental health and wellness, and assisting individuals that are currently involved with the justice system. The Safe in the 305 Grant program will award microgrants to applicants seeking funding support that range from $500 to $1,500. “Safe in the 305 empowers our residents and community stakeholders to strengthen the area in which they live, play, and do business through prevention, intervention and reentry efforts,” said Sonia Grice, director of the Community Action and Human Services Department.
The Safe in the 305 Grant program goals are to activate community participation in creating safer neighborhoods, amplify the voices of residents and community leaders against violence, build capacity in communities and bridge gaps with neighborhood stakeholders and government to address quality of life issues.
“With 86 projects funded since launching the program in June 2022, Safe in the 305 puts residents, grassroot groups, and other community stakeholders at the forefront of developing and implementing projects that will make their neighborhood safer” said Annika S. Holder, director of the Miami-Dade County Office of Neighborhood Safety. “This round of funding will support a minimum of 30 new projects that will further improve safety.”
ONS is also offering free application assistance via Zoom on Feb. 23 and at three of the CAHSD Community Resource Centers to support applicants Monday to Friday (except for public holidays) until Mar. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additionally, ONS will make available office hours at designated times and locations throughout the Miami-Dade County community for applicants requiring special technical assistance and ADA accommodations.
