Amazon Settlement for Prime Memberships
Amazon has begun processing claims for a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over allegations of deceptive Prime enrollment and cancellation practices. While Amazon has not admitted to any wrongdoing, the settlement includes $1.5 billion in refunds dedicated to affected consumers and a significant civil penalty.
Who’s Eligible for this Settlement?
Eligibility is primarily based on how and when you signed up for the service. You may qualify if you enrolled in Amazon Prime through a “challenged enrollment flow”—such as the shipping selection or single-page checkout screens—between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. Amazon is automatically issuing payments to those who used three or fewer Prime benefits during a 12-month period, while those who used between three and ten benefits may need to take further action.
Eligible customers who need to file a claim will receive an email or a mailed notice, according to the settlement website.

Settlement Payout
Qualified members can receive a refund of their membership fees up to a maximum of $51. The actual amount varies depending on individual circumstances; for example, those who were enrolled in discounted trial memberships may receive a smaller portion of the total. Once a claim is approved, payments will be issued via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed checks, depending on the preference selected during the filing process.
Filing a Claim
While many customers will receive their payments automatically, others will be notified by email or mail if they are required to submit a formal request. These notices, which should be postmarked by January 23, 2026, contain a unique Claim ID and PIN necessary to access the settlement website.
Eligible users must sign and submit their claims by July 21, 2026, after which Amazon will review submissions within 30 days to facilitate the payout.
