The semi-annual EDIT Sale is just weeks away, which means founders Stephanie Bissell, Shelly Landau and Jennifer Shelton are deep in prep mode.
The accidental entrepreneurs didn’t mean to start a business, but they did. A decade in, and the semi-annual EDIT Sale is one of Charlotte’s tentpole shopping events.
- Soon, some to-be-announced-warehouse will be filled with thousands of pieces of deeply discounted designer clothing. And women will line the block to get in.
Here’s how the EDIT girls start their day during busy season.
What time do you wake up every day? Alarm or no alarm?
SB: No alarm. I usually wake up around 8:30, but might close my eyes again if I don’t need to be anywhere until 9:30.
SL: 7:30, no alarm.
JS: 6:15, no alarm.
How long do you wait to pick up your phone?
SB: Not long enough.
SL: Sadly not very long. I lay there and check emails and go to my favorite insta account sistersinthecity. The best way to track my two daughters living in New York!
JS: Bad habit of picking up my phone immediately.
What’s your morning media diet?
SB: Usually watch Today show on weekdays and in the Fall we are all about College Game Day! Go Dawgs!
SL: I turn on the Today Show as soon as I walk into my kitchen every morning.
JS: News!
What’s for breakfast?
SB: Not much, not a super big breakfast eater!
SL: I don’t eat until noon, it just works for me. I get obsessed with whatever creamer I am hooked on Right now I am putting a dash of organic half and half with a larger splash of Califia French vanilla almond milk. I use an old school coffee pot where I mix 1/2 Peet’s decaf and 1/2 regular. I enjoy several cups especially in the winter but I cannot handle that much caffeine. I’m a light weight (haha).
JS: One cup of coffee before I’m out the door!
What are your non-negotiables for a good morning?
SB: Coffee and computer in bed!
SL: I love a morning phone catch up with a friend on the phone while I drink my coffee. Friends feed my soul.
JS: A cup of coffee and 7am workout at Hilliard Studio Method.
Any movement in the morning?
SB: I wish! I don’t get up as early as the other two!
SL: Sadly I do not work out the months we are in a warehouse. I love a long walk and talk with a friend or hot yoga when my schedule allows.
JS: I must to start my day and brain!
When does your work day start during EDIT sale’s busy season?
SB: Usually around 8! Yikes!
SL: From when I wake up and start checking emails + texts. We go into the warehouse by 10am. (I’m usually 15 minutes late.)
JS: I get to the warehouse around 9:30.
How would you rate your morning routine?
SB: Super uneventful, but always grateful to wake up another day!
SL: 5 out of 10…. But 10/10 for me!
JS: I love my mornings!
Who should I interview next? I love getting into the nitty gritty routines of successful people.
