Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is thought to be a potential candidate for the opening at Cal. Kane Wommack was thought to be a target for Arkansas, though the Razorbacks reportedly hired Alex Golesh.

On Friday, another member of the Crimson Tide coaching staff decided to take a job with a Pac-12 program.

Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Alabama co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shepard is set to take over at Oregon State.

“Sources: Oregon State has agreed to terms on a five-year deal to make Alabama co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard as the school’s next coach,” Thamel wrote. “Shephard is also Alabama’s assistant head coach and wide receiver coach. CBS first reported him as target.”

“Shephard also brings significant experience in the Pac-12 and Northwest, as he has worked at both Washington State (2016) and was on Kalen DeBoer’s Washington staff (2022-23) that went to the national title game after the 2023 season,” Thamel continued.

Shephard will inherit a Beavers program that is 2-9 before getting set to finish the regular season against 5-6 Washington State on Saturday. Oregon State fired Trent Bray on Oct. 12 after an 0-7 start.

Shephard, 42, has been with Alabama since 2024. He’s served as a wide receivers coach, co-offensive coordinator, and assistant head coach.

Before joining up with DeBoer at Washington, Shephard was a co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Purdue.

Shephard’s hiring comes amid a potential run for Alabama in the CFP. He’ll have to find a way to balance his duties in Tuscaloosa and with OSU.
