Yesterday was the Birthday of Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Countess Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille, who turned 55! The accomplished niece of Queen Margrethe and Queen Anne Marie who married and divorced an illustrious German Count before marrying a prominent Danish Count, Princess Alexandra has worn several Royal Heirlooms but nowadays she wears the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille Tiara!

The exact origin of this magnificent Diamond Flower Tiara is unknown, but it has been in the Family since the 19th century, likely inherited from the Bille-Brahe Family, from whom they inherited the family seat of Egeskov Castle in 1882.

The Diamond Floral Tiara was notably worn by Baroness Camille Jessie Bille-Brahe, who had married Count Julius Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille in 1875, for a portrait around 1900, along with the grand diamond floral necklace.

Over a century later, the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille Tiara was worn by Caroline Søeborg-Ohlsen when she married Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille in 2006.

Two years later, Countess Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille wore the Diamond Floral Tiara for the Wedding of Prince Joachim and Marie Cavallier in Schackenborg Castle.

The Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille Tiara was also worn by Countess Caroline for Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in 2010.

In 2019, Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg wore the Diamond Floral Tiara for her Wedding to Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille at Sankt Jørgens Kirke in Svendborgsund, near his family seat of Egeskov Castle.

Three years later, the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille Tiara was worn by Princess Alexandra for the Wedding of her only brother, Prince Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Carina Axelsson at Schloss Berleburg.

Princess Alexandra also wore the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille Tiara for Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee Gala Perormance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen a few months later. There is no doubt this spectacular heirloom will be worn for years to come!
