Aberdeen soldier dies in off-duty parachuting accident

Friends and family are remembering the life of a local soldier who died from injuries in an off-duty parachuting accident.
Sergeant First Class Dominic Perry was a member of the Golden Knights Parachute Team.
The Army says SFC Perry served for more than 20 years and part of Golden Knights parachute team for four years.
One of his friends shared with WRAL he had a great work ethic when he worked at a recruiting station here in the Triangle.
Skydiving was more than just a hobby for SFC Dominic Perry; it was a way of life.
The soldier-who lived in Aberdeen was a member of the Golden Knights.
A parachute team comprised of aircraft pilots, and people who handle jump logistics behind the scene.
SFC Perry lost his life in an off-duty parachuting accident on Wednesday in Whiteville, Tennessee.
Photos online highlight the bond built over the love of skydiving and there was an abundance of tributes online.
One user on Instagram wrote:
“Dom was one of the first people who helped me feel welcome in the skydiving community. Such sad news. Blue Skies Dom.”
On Facebook, another user described him as an incredible human who always made a room feel more welcoming by being there.
Beyond his skydiving talent, SFC Perry is remembered for his decades of dedication and service as a US Army soldier.
He leaves behind a wife and children and would have celebrated his 39th birthday on Friday, according to a family member.
