PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Time to gear up for a pretty soggy Sunday afternoon and evening.
Plenty of rainy moments are expected up and down the Oregon Coast and Willamette Valley on Sunday with soaking rain at times. And those daytimes high are going to continue to sit well below normal as we wrap up the weekend. Temperatures are expected to only warm into the mid-50s on Sunday and Monday.
Plus, wet mountain snow is expected across the southern Washington Cascades as well as both the northern and central Oregon Cascades.
Snow elevation levels will fall to just above 4,000 feet Sunday and into Monday morning. Snow totals during this span could approach a foot of accumulated snow for Oregon’s highest mountain peaks, with 4-6 inches expected at just about the 4,000 foot mark — in other words, above Government Camp.
Thus, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the higher elevations of the southern Washington Cascades and much of the Oregon Cascades for Sunday morning through Monday morning. This is the first Winter Weather Advisory issued this season.
As for the roadways and the impact of this snow, we are expecting mostly wet snow, but there is a chance of slick conditions on bridges and overpasses at or above 5,000 feet. So be sure to drive with caution if you are heading up to the mountain Sunday or Monday.
Here in Portland next week, drier conditions and more sunshine is set to return as temperatures warm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
We’ll get back into the mid-60s as a ridge of high pressure will head our way Tuesday and into the middle part of the week.
But for now, grab the rain jackets and the layers as you head out the door!
