A few days to thaw ahead of next arctic attack

[ad_1]

The snow and cold continue to linger across the Ozarks. Bright sunshine throughout the morning managed to boost temperatures to near freezing Tuesday afternoon.

This helped whittle away at some of the snow cover. In fact, roads that have been plowed and treated look pretty good. Of course, after a storm like this one and the lingering cold, there are still your suspect areas. Those areas will be untouched roads like rural roads and neighborhood streets. Even later this week, shady areas and roads on north-facing hills will hold onto the snow.

As for this evening, look for any snowmelt to quickly refreeze near and after sunset. This will lead to areas of black ice on roads and parking lots. This will be an ongoing issue through this coming weekend.

The next couple of days will offer up afternoon highs above freezing, but the nights will remain frigid. We’ll also have to watch for some patchy fog, especially Thursday morning, when it might be more widespread.

Skies will be bright Wednesday, but a passing clipper to the south Thursday will come with a wave of cloudier conditions.

Another arctic front will sweep through the area Friday. Clouds will come with the front, and there could be a few flurries as well. Friday will mark the beginning of a three day stretch of sub-freezing temperatures. Sky conditions will be clear Saturday, but clouds will return Sunday as a clipper moves through the area. This could be an opportunity for some flurries or light snow.

Temperatures will climb above freezing again Monday afternoon. We’ll have to watch next Tuesday as another storm system moves through the region. There may be a chance for a light wintry mix by the overnight hours.
